15 years ago i was a awkward teenager with a pc and this was one of my favorites. The graphics and the music haven't aged well and the resolution is "not very good". But the gameplay is still solid. One of my favorite memories is with one of the final missions of Rimtech. My base was being bombed faster than i could build defences. The only choice i had was to go underground, literally. I moved all my units underground and build my base underground, safe from the bombers, sending out tanks to conquer the tunnels and caves. After becoming king of the underground i started planning to retake the surface, occasionally sending out scouting parties to find soft spots. My factories were churning out mech parts in massive numbers, pilots prepared for combat. And then i rose again from the ashes and from underground, flooding the surface with elevators and tanks, providing cover for the constructors so that they could build construction pads for the mechs and defences to protect those pads. Within a very short time i had an army of giant robots stomping down the enemy like Gipsy Danger with Kaiju, whiping out any remaining trace of opposition. I loved this game.

Ok here is the short and long of it. I love this game do not get me wrong by the negative review. It is a fan freakin tastic game and I have spent many many hours playing it when I was younger. But this verison however.......well I should say this original game has some MASSIVE issues. I should say upfront that I did not spend much time playing the game because I couldn't get the menus to look correct and ultimately makes it difficult to play. So here is the meat and potatoes of it all and why I do not fully recommend buying the game in it's current state. Here is the list of things I had issue with: 1. Highest resolution made menus look worst not better! That's right I experienced better menu quality at the lower resolutions than the higher ones. This annoyed me to be honest and caused some issues with the game being released under current system conditions. 2. There is no windowed mode. So if you are running a 4K system then you get to look at all the pixels that the old menu had. Even more prominent of an issue at the higher resultions. If there was an option for windowed mode this would most likely be a more positive review because it should make the game look nicer at it's native resolution on a large screen. 3. If you use the workaround for higher resolutions the game becomes even MORE pixelated. 4. I went to start a skirmish match and could barely read the menus so again a visual issue with menus and resolutions. The long and short of it all is that the old graphics and menus are direct translate to this without any updating or consideration for the modern day resolutions that we are using causing a visual mess. Inside the game the visual issues with words still persists however you can tell what you are doing and what the items you are building are. Still would be nice to have a cleaner UI though. If the person releasing this can fix some of these issues and maybe do some updates to a couple of things I would be glad to give it another go but in the current state for me and my system/setup it's down right impossible to play. I would recommend a bit of buyer beware just so you know that there are no UI enhancements or cleanups on the game currently. Pros: Classic game and gameplay Nostalgia Cons: UI Issues Display Issues I will revisit my review if some of thes issues are fixed. @Azta - Rather than be a troll to a troll one thing you must know. I did the review as informative to anyone to let them know a little bit more than the whole "this game was great!" and "I remember playing this when i was younger" I mean come on. It's a negative review because there are things that need to be fixed to make it work more effectively. That is what my point is. On today's systems there are issues with the graphic fidelity of the menus. Gameplay is the same and is fun. But the flaws that I found playing the game were a deal buster on playing the game further. When some of the stuff is fixed then I will gladly re-write my review. I wanted to inform those looking at the game that there are translation issues with the graphics into modern displays and resolution scales. Simply having a windowed mode or having a check of the way the menus display at high resolution and fixing the menu/text displays would of made this a positive review rather than a negative one. Yes I spent $5 on a game....on an OLD game but honestly I would of like to have had atleast readable text.

Bought it as a hard copy back when it was releashed, in 2000, played it untill the disc couldn't any more. Happy that it's avalible on STEAM :) And why do I love it? Big A** battle robots with different parts, to customize them as you want (based on the parts you have avalible), want a combot with a sword in one hand and a rocket launcher in the other, able to fly and become invisible? you can. L O V E the 3 part map, requires you to think a bit more 3 dimensionally, and plan how to move and use your troops, since combots can't move underground, and planes and combots (with jet parts) can fly between ground and orbit layers, so even if you only focus on combots and planes, the enemy might make a huge base underground with legions of tanks, the suddenly poping up and rolling over you, combots might be strong, but a tide of tanks can end up eating your combots, like ants can overwhelm animals much larger than themselves. While the graphics might be chunky and blury, because of its age, it's still a GREAT strategy game with a nice story, only things I could hope for, is an update to polish fx. the AI and other parts of the gameplay, orrr, even better, a sequel, I know the developers and publishers are long gone, but I still hope for someone making a Metal Fatigue 2, or at least something that follows the gameplay mechanics, because giant combat robots. Say and think what you want I love it 4.9/5

This game absolutly needs a Remake/Remaster/2. Part! It's one of my all-time favorite PC Games from my Childhood. Graphics are okayish, but the interface realy suffers from high resolutions :( Constructing combots and sending them to battle others is still enjoyable after 18 years.

It's not a Remake. It's not a Remaster. It's pretty much exactly the Game from back in the day. Of course many of us that loved the Game when they were younger, googled once a year on how to get this Game to work on Win 7-10 but decided to let the past die since it was only working 5% of the Time including a huge hustle. Thank God i saw it coming to Steam when i conducted my once-in-a-year research on its topic.

I remember seeing this in the store in 2002 and it was like $5 bucks. And sure I got the look from my mom, but it was cheap so she accepted. Came home from summer camp following months, tried it and from the intro cutscene, I was sold. The campaign is set on 3 factions led by 3 brothers. They all at first were in Rimtech, surveying the area when they discovered an abandoned assembly. The youngest went to investigate when things go wrong. In the end they made it and the youngest had an ancient artifact equipped with him. The oldest wanted to take it back to RimTech for a bonus, but the youngest wanted to take it to Neuropa so he could be set for life. They fought for a bit until the middle brother broke it up. MilAgro on the other hand thought, if they cant get the tech, nobody can. So they set up a bombing run which claimed the middle aged brother. The oldest went back to Rimtech, the middle was discovered by Milagro patrolmen and brainwashed him, while the youngest fled to Neuropa and was set. Each faction has its pros and cons. Rimtech has the balanced set of tanks and combots. Milagro is of course the big offensive units with axes and chainguns. Neuropa has the alien tech and has the agile combots using some quick hit and run tactics. What makes the game different from other RTS games is that you can fight above the planet and underground thus making it interesting. Like if you cant beat them on a surface, try underground or ambush from above them. Best part is if you beat a combot, it has a chance of dropping its parts to you can gather it, take it back to base and research it to add their arsenal to your own. My favorite part in the game is a skirmish map with a malfuctioning alien combot which basically kills combots in 1-2 hits. Now there are some problems. It doesnt have the best graphics so if you're looking to buy it just for that, its not for you. And since the game is like in the 2000s, there is no 16:9 widescreen so you're stuck with what is given to you. No HD remaster and all that jazz for you guys either. Overall if you love robots just beating the crap out of each other, get the game.

HOLY $h^#!!! I can't believe this game is finally released on steam. I absolutely loved this game as a teen. I played this for hours with my brother. This game is one of my favorite RTS's ever. I am writing this review even before I load up the game again for this first time in years. I can not relate the excitment I have to revisit this game and the great memories I have of it. This game needs a remake or a Metal Fatigue Two. I would even settle for mods getting there hands on this and seeing what kind of awesome things are created. To any of the young gamers out there that love RTS's and want to experience an RTS while they were in there prime pick this game up and give it a go. The graphics and sound are dated but who cares! You wont regret this purchase!

This game was so fucking good and it's still as good as I used to remember. I just need it to have a good rework and online multiplayer, then it'll be a fucking gem. Maybe a Metal Fatigue 2 is due? Please make it so...

Classic game. Just started playing again. No widescreen (16:9) resolution though is kind of a bummer however.
