How to play Ken ga Kimi

  • How to advance the story

The story consists of two parts which are prequel "False Bridal Procession in Tōkaidō" and sequel "Sword Retrieving Imperial Match".

The sequel tells the story about the heroine and the character she fell in love with, which will be separated into "Ken(sword)" and "Kimi(you)" based on your choice.

Ken— He chose the road of samurai which is along with death and separation.

Kimi— He has changed because of your influence, the rest of your life is a life with happiness.

In sequel, "Magatama Selection" will take the role of trigger to advance the story instead of the normal selection in prequel.

Magatama Selection includes four attributes that called "shikon(four souls)": courage, wisdom, love, and friendship.

Shikon's state changes depending on player's selection. That is, your selection will increase the value of a particular shikon, and eventually these different states will divide the ending into "Ken" and "Kimi". In general, every main character has 4 different endings according to player's selection.

In addition, "Epilog" with a new scenario will be unlocked after the story advanced to an ending. Each ending has one epilog.

My fluency in Japanese is still below the level this game requires to read comfortably without crutches, but that didn't stop me from devouring it for almost 150h over 1 month, with the aid of a tablet with G.Lens. It was so engaging that I never cared about playing in such a convoluted way. Why? <*> Art and music are simply gorgeous. Character design in particular, everyone's ridiculously pretty! <*> I liked the setting, mixing history with fantasy, and the story was quite engaging for the most part. <*> Good mix of tragedy, plot and fluff. This is very subjective, but it works for me. I very rarely cry playing games (otome or not), but here I found myself sobbing a lot more often than I'd like to admit. <*> All the main cast was likeable. I usually tend to like 1-2 love interests and then forget about the rest, and while I do have my favourites I cared about all of them. The main character was okay too. <*> There were a lot of secondary characters. They played a significant role in making the game world feel alive. <*> I appreciated that there was some really clear feedback about the impact of your choices. I don't like backtracking, especially for long games, so I begrudgingly resort to walkthroughs. With Ken ga Kimi you don't really need to. Issues / Things I'd improve? <*> Some repetition. This is expected in the common route, and to be fair it can be skipped, but then there were some events happening on mostly every route and certain route branches end up feeling relatively similar because of that. It didn't feel like a big problem, but more variation wouldn't have harmed. <*> Plot resolution in some branches felt a bit random at times, Kimi endings in particular. <*> While art quality was mostly very high, some sprites or CGIs were definitely rougher. <*> Possibly a bug? The text box in the CGIs didn't show any text in Japanese. If that box was supposed to show the subtitles for the "hidden" audio clips, well, they didn't appear. If it was not, then it's just taking up useless screen space, forcing us to manually hide it. Personal wishlist: <*> Steam Deck Compatibility!! I've spent quite some time tinkering with protontricks or Lutris trying to get the game to work, but the best I achieved was to see the splash CGI and then a neverending black screen. The fandisc IS playable, so it's a pity that we can't enjoy the main game on the Deck too. <*> English localization, please! *_* I'm aware the developer doesn't seem to have it in their plans AFAIK and the community are working on this anyway, but I believe this game deserves to be played by as many people as possible. <*> More Saneaki.

I had this game on PC years ago and loved it, but since lost it and never got the opportunity to finish the game. Being able to own in on steam so that I can finally finish it is an absolute blessing that I am so thankful for!! That being said, I can't express how much I would love to see the english language added onto this game as an option. There's no doubt that this game has an underground following of devoted fans, and I know it would do exceptionally well. This is one of the best Rejet games in terms of story, characters, art, and music. I could sing this game's praises for hours on end. For those studying Japanese, I will warn you that this game is very kanji heavy and has a lot of old terminology that might stump you initially. However, if you press on with playing and don't give up at a challenge you will be well rewarded. This game is worth every moment that the player spends playing it.

Ken ga Kimi is such a well written game. It is split into two arcs: the first arc is the common route where Kayo travels with everyone for the fake wedding parade, and the second arc contains the routes themselves along with the sword retrieval tournament. It is a very long and detailed game and I definitely recommend it. As someone who can barely read Chinese or Japanese, I was hesitant on buying this game but ultimately decided to after reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews and praises for Ken ga Kimi. If you're going in with google translate (on camera) like me, I highly suggest pulling up a detailed plot overview that you can find by searching up Ken ga Kimi Wordpress. In the beginning of the prologue, the historical elements were a bit difficult to understand without a plot overview. However, once character dialogue began, it became a lot easier (character voice acting made a huge difference). It wasn't as hard to follow the story progression as I thought it would be, and turned out to be very enjoyable. There is no established route recommendation for this game, except to save Tsuzuramaru's route for last. The order I am playing in is Sakyou > Kei > Saneaki > Enishi > Suzukake > Tsuzuramaru. The storyline and the 200+ CGs are absolutely beautiful. Like Rejet's other games, there is a function called "CG Click" where you can click parts of the CGs for the characters' additional commentary. You can find the controls under the description of this game. As for the menu buttons, you can experiment around to see what they do. The buttons should be "Extras", "Settings", "Continue", and "Start", in that order. Every character has 4 endings: 2 for the ken (sword) route, and 2 for the kimi (you) route. Kimi endings are where the characters choose you over the way of the sword. They are called the Sakimitama (happiness) ending and the Nigimitama (peace/harmony) ending. The Saki ending is the "best" ending whereas the Nigi ending is more "realistic" ending, where some things have to be given up. Although it sounds sad, I really like some of the Nigi endings, maybe even more than their Saki counterparts. The Ken endings are Aramitama (wild) and Kushimitama (strange). Ken endings aren't all "bad" ends; some of them are happy too. It delves deeper into the story and I don't regret playing them at all, and they gave just as many CGs as the Kimi routes did. I really like their themes as well because
I don't want them to give up their dreams in some of the kimi routes ):.
Honestly I think it's more enjoyable to play the Ken route first because the Kimi routes will
heal your heart
. Here are the controls: Q or W: Pressing once turns on auto mode, pressing it again turns on skip mode (left clicking will stop auto/skip mode) 1: Quick Load 2: Quick Save S (or menu button): Brings up menu, right click to close D or Left Click: Advance text Z: Pulls up definition of unknown words X: Hides text box Arrow Keys: History/Log Overall, it was a very rewarding experience. Ken ga Kimi is definitely a masterpiece!

I love this game so much!!! I have been a fan for YEARS!! Been waiting for this game to get translated since forever, I have played the PC version, then the Vita version, now I finished the chinese translated game. I can never get tired of this game, it is still the TOP otome game in my heart. The characters are absolutely great (even the side characters!), the art is stunning, the voice actors are absolutely on point, the story's pace and development are also good. My only complain is that.... why doesn't tokugawa iemitsu have a route? If you can read chinese, I would definitely recommend you to play Ken Ga Kimi! I hope the fandisc will be up on steam soon. 官方请尽快把剑为君舞的FD!!! 放上steam!!! 玩不了手机版。 我快等不及了呜呜呜

The game is absolutely awesome, both story and character-wise! You’d probably need at least N4-N3 Japanese to play it comfortably, though. But I was impressed enough to take my time and decipher it at N5 at best, so it’s hard, but not impossible and definitely worth it! Practicing Japanese this way is good and all, but it's really a pity Rejet never considers English localization. Ken ga Kimi is a true masterpiece and deserves all the love in the world! It’s pretty rare to find an otome with decent characters, well-written plot and strong shounen vibes even. Highly recommended!! Don't let the wall of kanji scare you away! P.S. I must say, the game is quite expensive, despite having only 2 language options, but never once did I regret paying that much. The game is well-ported, the art is beautiful, all the seiyuus are amazing and the plot is one of a good book.

21 hours to complete 1 route (out of 6). Each route comes with 4 different endings, skip mode (to next choice) and progress mechanism (showing which ending you are heading towards) are available so the endings are very easy to unlock. Despite long hours of gameplay, the BGM is too beautiful to bore you. Content is only available in Japanese and Chinese, but it was a great opportunity to learn some old Japanese expressions.
