Okay, let's address the elephant in the room: is this DLC good? The answer is "yes": if you enjoy House Flipper's core game play loop, which is to take something that is ugly and transform it through your creativity into something that is pleasing to look at, then you will enjoy this DLC. Why does it get so many poor reviews, then? Two reasons: first, the DLC is a bit over-priced for what it gives you. And second, the DLC is not tightly integrated to the rest of the game. The second one ties strongly with the first one because of the DLC's basic length. If you try to get the basic content out of this DLC, it will take you five or six hours, which is therefore probably not worth more than 5 USD or so. So, good things first: there's a lot of creativity to be unleashed here, lots of new parts and opportunities to use them, an interesting mechanic for "judging" your work, and 18-20 tutorial jobs that will teach you the use of all the different tools. As the screenshots will show you, you can generate some quite good-looking gardens in a reasonable amount of time, and there's definitely a lot of satisfaction to be had from doing a good job with one. The graphics are first rate, the UI is intuitive (except for two exceptions, which I'll talk about presently), and the end results look pretty amazing even if you're nobody's landscape architect. The UI problems come when you try to spread gravel or sand, and when you try to roll grass turf. The first one uses a painting tool which just doesn't work well with the rest of the UI of the game. The devs probably should have reworked the flooring UI of the main game instead of using a paintbrush tool. I know why they did it: so that you can "draw" sand or gravel paths through your gardens and fair enough. But there should have also been an option for blocking out an even area of sand or gravel. The option to roll turf (what you do to plant grass) has an entirely different set of problems in that the smallest obstacle will halt your progress and you're constantly having to move garden bits around to make room for rolling turf, something that has to be done in advance. This can create some frustration with some of the jobs that require you to do this. That said, both of these are kinda nit-picky complaints. The light integration with the rest of the game is the main issue with this DLC. None of the clients care what the gardens attached to their houses look like, and there are no new clients that want particular gardens. Instead, you can "enter your house in a gardening competition", choosing a half-dozen different styles of garden. If you are rated well, then you get a bonus percentage attached to the bid you get for your house from the client. There are two problems with this. First, the contests are super easy and if you follow any sort of on-line guide, your first competing garden will probably nail five stars in all three categories. Second, you can fairly easily spend more on this garden than you will benefit from the percentage bonus you get for building the garden, which means you mostly want to engage in this part of the game with the biggest houses. As a result, you will most likely build maybe two or three really nice gardens tops with this DLC. So, it's good but flawed. I bought this while it was on sale and I recommend you do the same.

I would give this DLC a neutral option if I could. On the one hand, it does open up a lot of new things you can do with properties in the game to make the landscape look nice. On the other though, a lot of theses things feel like they should have been included in the base game for free, like the ability to basic things like mow lawns and other things that are very basic. Would I say it's worth $14.99? Yes and no, it feels like it should be $10 cheaper based on the fact that a lot of these things should have been in the base game. But I would say it's worth it at the very least to make properties exteriors not look terrible.

First and foremost, I am not recommending this dlc because of some of the responses I've seen from the dev to other reviews. Looking at reviews, I see dev responses such as "other companies would charge more" or "some would release individual dlc at 5$ a house, so really this is a good package deal", which makes reviewers like myself and others seem like we are wasting our time writing feedback. In this instance, I am starting to feel like the consumer's opinion doesnt matter, and that I shouldnt bother writing a review at all. Just because people buy your product, or other companies do things similar or different than you, it does not entitle you to talk over what a pretty mixed group of your audience feels. When it comes to adding on to a game, I think this extra content is a little expensive for what it is: buggy and unfinished. There should not be a "coming soon" block to something that is supposed to be fully released. (I am hoping/assuming the "coming soon" refers to a lawn mower upgrade. Really, who mowes with a weed wacker?? Usually in this game you start with a small tool and upgrade it, but there is no upgrade from the wacker right now, making big yards a pain.) Others have made a lot of the same remarks I would; That there are not enough new tasks/houses added to make this really fresh content (for the price), there is a lot that needs to be cleaned up, and overall the dlc feels unpolished, especially for how long its been in development for. I bought it despite reviews to see for myself, but I ultimately agree that for now, more work needs to be done before I can give this review a thumbs up. In short, wait until this dlc is further updated, debugged, and fleshed out before paying full price. I do honestly like this game and the dlc. Despite the price and the way I feel about it as I have spoken above, I really do enjoy this game. The dlc completes the whole flipping experience, and now all the game is really missing is the option of customising the exterior of the house, such as roofing, (moving around) doors and windows, and more siding options. However, I think the connection to the part of the community upset about the dlc is also important. With the base game being $20, with several houses, tools, jobs, upgrades, furniture, etc, I fully understand why $15 for the dlc is making people so upset. At the least, I hope they add more houses in free updates. For me personally, $15 isnt a big deal, but I am more concerned about the responses going on than the actual price.

Garden Flipper might sound like a fun addition to House Flipper, but it's not. I'm not sure where to start with the list of issues I have with this DLC, so let's start with the positives, I love that you're now able to edit the yard to your liking, I personally made a Japanese garden in the backyard of my office. You can make a nice driveway that matches the colourscheme of your house, add a swimming pool, an outdoor cinema and so much more. But as you might have guessed there are some issues, which is why my review is negative. Let's start with the additional tasks, it's good that they added more tasks with this DLC, tasks which of course involve gardening. But it's just really bland when compared to renovating the house. Most tasks are just you collecting trash, mowing some grass, removing weeds and planting a couple of apple trees or some shit, but usually the gameplay narrows down to you running around and finding that last piece of weed somewhere that's preventing you from 100% the task. It's just a wild goose chase trying to find that one shrub of grass that you missed with your brush cutter/lawnmower or that one plastic bag stuck in a bush or that one freaking weed. It's not fun, it's frustrating because the yard might look perfect but still there is one plastic bag somewhere. Originally this DLC had only the brush cutter, so mowing lawn was just a huge pain in the ass. Now that there is a lawnmower, it's faster and easier... Right? Wrong. The lawnmower is a lot clunkier to maneuver than I expected, it gets stuck into invisible walls, it can't fit spaces you'd expect it to fit, it's not precise with it's cutting, you'll just end up cutting huge open yards a bit with the lawnmower and then it's brush cutter time again. Honestly, sprinting and wailing around with the brush cutter ends up being nearly as efficient at removing grass as the lawnmower it self. Okay so we get it, removing plants is a pain in the ass but how about adding them? Is that also a pain in the ass? Yup. Turf roll has some really weird controls to it, actually they're the exact same as with the lawnmower, except you can only go in one direction, you can't back up if you accidentally add turf to an area you weren't supposed to. Also instead of paying for the amount of grass you use, you need to select width of your roll and pay for the entire roll upfront, even if you use only like 1m of that roll. Also this gets stuck in invisible walls, complains about the surface it's been placed on and even sometimes refuses to unroll upfront. And if you're careless like me, you can accidentally glitch yourself stuck between two bushes that can't be moved, sold, cut or removed. Actually there are a lot of instances in which the tools you're supposed to use just refuse to work. Sometimes your axe will make the swing animation but no matter how well you aim, it just won't do even a scratch to the tree you're trying to cut down. Your shovel not digging any dirt, just doing the animation and cutting it right before you manage to dig up dirt with it, sometimes you can't even equip your shovel. Speaking of digging, all trees, bushes, ponds and what not, have to be dug out and then be covered with soil. So? Well it turns out that you need to dig with your shovel just as long with the same animation regardless of whether you're digging for a swimming pool or a cherry tree. And the animation for covering with soil is the same for every object and plant in the game, then you water them. It just feels so unpolished and unnatural. Construction has also been simplified, you're no longer making small delicate installation like in the base game, instead you're putting together massive pieces of wood without any screws to build a swing. Also a lot of objects that I expected to have a build montage don't actually have it at all. Swimming pools don't need plumbing, you're just planting them like trees and then filling them with water. Patios are prebuilt and just added like pieces of furniture to your yard. Oh and once you're done with the tasks, you won't be doing any gardening ever again. When ever you renovate a house, you're so satisfied with the end result of your houses interior that you can't even bother thinking about the yard, it doesn't add any value to your house unless you enter a gardening competition which in turn reduces your creative freedom over the yard, since it has to be a specific type of garden to have value in the competition. More often than not, you might cut the grass to make your house look a bit more presentable, but rarely are you going to be doing anything else in the yard once your house is done. Just sell it and move on. TL;DR The DLC is boring, bland, glitchy and buggy, lacks polish and is just not worth your money for costing nearly as much as the base game. Get House Flipper, but skip this DLC, you won't really be losing anything. (Edit note: Just fixed a few typos in my review)

Content that always should have been in the base game. So technically i recommend getting this to make house flipper a more complete game but it cost me money so grrrrrr bad review.

I was hesitant to buy this DLC because of the mixed reviews, but after playing it I do think it's worth buying. I was worried that the gardens would be very limited in terms of customisation, but there's a lot of stuff to choose from - plants, paving stones, sheds, kids' play equipment, gym equipment, tables, chairs... There's a huge variety of stuff you can do and it helps to supplement the main game by providing extra missions and helping to bump up the value of the houses you flip. If you're still undecided maybe wait for the DLC to go on sale. But I'd recommend it overall.

This DLC feels like a monkey's paw type of wish came true. I love the main game. I have a very perfectionist personality, which IRL is almost giving me problems. This game lets me go nuts, the grid system is useful for being precise but fine enough to not feel like the homes were computer-generated. The main problem I had was the gardens. No matter how pretty the homes are, some of the gardens were actual jungles. I just wished to mow the lawn. All I ever asked for was mowing the lawn. One finger of the monkey's paw curls in. Now you can mow the lawn! But only with a grasseater that either goes super slow or fast enough to give you motion sickness. Now you can make patios! But the tiles you lay down never match seamlessy. Now you can place down gravel! But it goes down like you're painting it with your mouse and the edges look jaggy af. Now you can make fences! But the pieces of the fence not only don't snap, but can't even get manually aligned to each other. It's like every time you start placing fences the game picks an arbitrary offset for it. So if you placed a part and then want to place another, the "grid" that determines where the fence goes is off-centred and the two pieces will NEVER collide. I really cannot understand how the same people who made the main game managed to do everything wrong on this DLC. I read the negative reviews but I was like "I don't care, I'm sure I can just pay attention and get a nice lawn". Well I was wrong. I cannot even, say, limit myself to mowing the lawns. When you cut the tall grass the short one that is left has weird holes and patches that cannot be covered no matter how many times you go over them w fresh grass. The only solution is using decorative elements to cover them up. Unironically ruined my experience with a game I used to love. Not even joking, I miss the jungle lawn.

Not worth the price. Sure, it adds things to the overall game but a lot of it only applies to the meager few new houses added. Be prepared to do a lot of grass cutting and rolling out (more on that later). What's worse, the missions added with this dlc are for the garden portion only. Meaning you can't actually do anything inside of the houses. The gardening stuff itself is bland, to put it nicely. Grass cutting is a headache (especially if you intend on cutting all of the long grass around the yard. It doesn't go along smoothly!) and rolling out grass is right up there with it. They also give you an axe, but you can't do anything else with it besides cutting down some trees. It's sad that you can cut down trees but you can't destroy or damage your house with it. What's the point? Overall, frankly a lot of this stuff really should have been a part of the base game or at least a few aspects that ended up in this dlc. That aside, I was hopeful that this dlc was going to add more variety and just make the game feel more complete. Maybe open up a handful of new houses and just more missions and stuff to help give more meat to this game. Or if nothing else, fix the useless buyers that complain so much in the base game. But the reality is, this doesn't change enough to really justify buying this at all. It adds some extra things to do, but doing those things feels just repetitive and boring (ironic I know). I also just can't shake this feeling incredibly stupid for buying this in the first place, but that mistake is mine. Consider this a lesson learned and one that I won't be making again in the future. And the bottom line for me is this: What's the point of spending so much time designing a garden or outdoor area when the stupid buyers couldn't really care less what you do?

Pros: - Adds a new Gardening skill track, a ton of new items and even a few auctionable properties! - Lets you do up the gardens of any property in the game! - Any house that isn't your current office can be entered into a gardening competition, which increases the sale price of the house by up to 50%! - Most gardens are quite big, so playtime for the game is doubled, possibly tripled. Cons: - The gardening competition gives your garden a score, which affects the price bonus. The criteria for each score aren't explained at all, so getting a good one is trial and error... - The gardens in email missions are divided into areas. These are like separate rooms in the houses. The problem is that sometimes those areas overlap. Which makes it hard to 100% those missions which involve laying gravel or sand... - Most gardens are quite big. Doing them up for the garden competition involves, as a minimum, mowing, weeding, planting, equipping and furnishing. If you want to go all out, add paving slabs, pathways and fences to that list. There are moments when I wonder: "Should this game be called "Garden Designer" instead?" Overall, this DLC is Astonishingly good value for money if you want to increase your playtime. Just take the drawbacks I've listed into account.
