In a world with no memory of its past. The House of Sayadi sends its thousand-ton military ships to the skies. Stirring the peace of nations inhabiting the earth they strive to bring back what they have lost.

As a commander of the Sayadi Task Force you’ve been sent to regain control of the rebellious Kingdom of Gerat by whatever means necessary. To succeed will require careful exploration, clever resource management, cautious diplomacy and building a fleet capable of ruling the skies unchallenged.

But maybe a much greater destiny awaits you in this journey. As this forsaken land still hides the mysterious prophecies of a long forgotten past.

Killer combat

At the heart of HighFleet is a unique form of combat in which giant ships bristling with weaponry duel above the desert. This is no mindless button mashing, however. Far from it. Battles are won by skilfully moving into positions that allow you to exploit your enemies' weak spots.

Serious strategy

Mastering HighFleet requires much more than winning battles. You must explore the mysterious lands of Gerat. You must manage your ships, men, fuel and other resources. You must engage in diplomacy with the various factions. And then there’s the prophecy to be unravelled…

Freedom to fly

Thanks to HighFleet’s in-game ship editor, you can build the perfect fleet to suit your style of fighting. The many distinctive ship options and upgrade paths ensure the game will provide plenty of replay value.

One-of-a-kind world

The “dieselpunk” visual aesthetic, immersive music and sounds, and underlying mystery of HighFleet combine to create a truly unique and unforgettable atmosphere. This is a world you won’t want to leave until you’ve uncovered every secret and followed your destiny to the very end.

Recommended with caveats. Pros: Highly immersive, unique visuals and systems, reasonably good writing, interesting setting. The HUD is especially great, and alongside the strong sound design you really feel centered in the world. The mechanics all play well with these systems; this is a showcase of how integrated visuals and design are way more important than pure fidelity. Watch a trailer or two to see what it looks and sounds like. Gameplay is fun, tense, and often produces nail-biting close calls (at least on "normal" difficulty). Nothing super ground-breaking (and the fact you can only field 1 vessel at a time sort of breaks the immersion) but it's not a huge issue. The feeling of mastery is still there - skilled piloting can overcome overwhelming odds in many cases. The overworld play is arguably more interesting than the tactical combat, with lots of interesting decision making and educated guesswork. But... Cons: It does a *very* poor job of explaining its systems. The basic combat is clear enough, but several overworld elements, such as missile defense, aircraft, IR sensors, ground radar, etc. are barely explained and require some trial and error to figure out. And unless you figure them out, it's difficult to win. It often feels unfair. Even if you play correctly, you'll still end up taking a barrage of missiles or a brace of aircraft fire on the nose, even after winning a decisive battle. The game does offer save points, which help mitigate the pain of scrubbing out, but I still found myself restarting several times for frustrating reasons. Several mechanics aren't well fleshed out, like diplomacy. It's not a huge issue, but it definitely could be better. So - I'd recommend this game if you are: A -- Interested in unique presentation and setting or immersion. B -- willing to learn by experience rather than being taught, and try again when you fail. C -- willing to look a few things up D -- Appreciate games that are trying something fresh and unique - I can certainly say that about this title. Overall, I enjoyed my time with it and didn't get bored, but probably won't play it again -- beating it was a tough slog.

Hey hey people. Game's lit. Outstanding art direction, great setting, bombastic audio. And complex. Community guides and the digital manual included with purchase(yes, a manual) will be your friend for a little while, but once you understand what's happening, nothing beats this. And for the love of god, don't hit the red button.

Highfleet. As expected of Russian developers, or rather, single developer, you've got something good, but it's got some of the most bizarre ideas and mechanics, downright useless tutorials and a hilariously steep learning cliff. Highfleet is a 2D fleet-management-sim. Except instead of traditional seafaring ships, you've got these giant-ass jet-engine-powered ships that cruise around. The game is divided into roughly two different loops. The strategic map, where you must send you fleet(s) around in a roughly rectangle-sized map. The goal being to get from your starting town, to the one and the opposite end. Along the way, you'll attack garrisoned cities in order to access their fuel depots, repair shops, occasional mercenary ships for sale, for the sake of securing valuable intel, occasionally collecting a few nuclear missiles, or just getting into a shop with a nice selection of rarer ship parts. And intel really IS valuable. Cargo ships can be captured and sold for a good amount of money, and they'll likely be your main source of income. And you REALLY need money. Flying costs money. Repairs cost money. Replacement parts cost money. Buying new ships costs money. Buying specialty ammo and bombs costs money- safe to say, you'll need to capture a few cargo ships along the way. Intel can also tell you where Strike Groups, which are effectively the boss units of the game, are. They're a small fleet, usually about four in size, but they all have highly-armored ships, usually stocked to the brim with special ammo and missiles up the ass. Not unbeatable, but they'll fuck you up and can easily take out your ships if you aren't careful. Then, when you enter combat, which will be pretty often, you're taken to a 2D screen with bullet-hell-like mechanics, involving dodging and strafing enemy ship gunfire, while blasting them with your own ship's armaments. It's always your one ship, up against 2-3 enemies at at time. If the enemy has reserves, they'll come in as soon as you destroy one of their ships. Likewise, if your single ship retreats or gets destroyed, if you've brought reserves, they'll come into play. Keep in mind, though, lost ships are a HUGE expense, and you shouldn't be looking to take losses, at least not until the late-game. The tutorial, though, sucks. It hardly explains shit, especially things when, once I've discovered them, made my game IMMENSELY easier. NUKES! You can launch them; however, having nukes in your inventory WILL NOT WORK. You need to actually mount them onto your ship in the ship-builder, which you can access from any city's Shipworks. Then, once they're on, you can launch them by turning the dial in the top-right of your screen in the strategic view to select which nuke, then flick the amount of switches corresponding to how many nukes you want to launch, then clicking on a target (They will auto-adjust for an enemy's route), then clicking the launch button. You do NOT need to flick all of them on, unless you want to fire all of them. Don't make this mistake of firing all 4 of your expensive nukes at some half-dead strike group. Now, a thing about them. The enemy won't fire nukes at you, until you've fired the first one. And nukes, as expected, can be INCREDIBLY devastating, especially if they directly hit. Which, if you haven't brought enough anti-missile, anti-jet ships to deal with, can happen, and can kill a run. However, the same applies to the enemy. Take that as you will. JETS! Now, you /can/ launch them while in the 2D combat space. This, however, is a complete waste. Rather, you're expected to use them mostly on the strategic map. At the bottom of the strategic view screen, there is a round button with a yellow arrow. Press this to open up your view of planes, assuming you have any carriers. From here on, you hover over your plane type, which will expand a menu showing off your available munitions for each jet. You'll always have access to using standard guns, though they're not very effective. If you have jet-mounted bombs or rockets, though, you'll likely want to select those instead. Make sure to click multiple times on that particular munition to select how many jets you want to launch, and once that's all good, click on your desired target, the jets will try to properly account for the enemy's expected route. After that, once they reach an enemy. Whether that be a garrisoned city (You can destroy a city garrison with nothing but jets. This is, in some cases, actually very viable.), or a ship fleet on the move, you'll enter combat mode. However, you can't affect anything except requesting that the jets retreat early. This may be useful if you find out the enemy has a large supply of anti-jet/anti-missile ships. RADIO ENCRYPTION! Seeing how big of a deal the game made about radio interception in the tutorial, it's almost bizzare why they don't explain radio encryption, and how to handle it. Eventually, at some point in your journey, the enemy will start encrypting their radios. You can collect encryption keys from destroyed ship radio rooms. These will not work automatically. Once you've collected enough keys, the most you'll ever need being four, you open your radio screen, and search for four dials in a horizontal line. Match the numbers on the encryption key card onto the four dials, and it will decrypt any radio transmissions you've got. SHIPBUILDING! There's a button on the main menu to access a free shipbuilder that you can build whatever it is you want. Shipbuilding mid-run isn't really possible, nor have I found it to be all that great beyond occasionally swapping out a weapon here or there. ALTERNATE AMMO TYPES AND BOMBS! Yes, there are ways to get these beyond simply scavenging them off exploded ships! When you're filling up at the gas station at any city, you can pan the screen to the right to see a little shop that sells specialty munitions, and also bombs and rockets for your jets. Some are very useful, some are a little less. I've found AP to generally be amazing, especially if you know where to roughly shoot. Incendiary sets things on fire, laser-guided allows you to direct your shots mid-flight. It's honestly not that great. Make sure to buy the correct ammo type for your weapons aswell. A giant artillery gun won't fire specialty ammo for miniguns. TARKHAN SUPPORT! You can ask your Tarkhans for support, but it's all strategic-map stuff only. None of it will work in combat mode. To do this, you look roughly toward the center-top part of your screen for a sticky-noted button. Press it, and you'll get a list of all your Tarkhans, and what sort of support they can provide you. Whether that's giving you some extra money, making your repairs go by faster, improving your fleet's morale, things of that nature. They can really save you, or just give you that extra little bit of speed you need to hit everything you wanted to. Once you use up all their favor, they won't be available beyond a few occasional random events that'll restore their favor. Do not use up all their favor, as all the leftover favor ends up being turned into something FAR more valuable to you at the end-game. You'll thank me later. Tl;dr, it's a great game. Highly complex, with systems galore, but in traditional Russian design methodology, the game fucking throws you into the deep end, and expects you to learn how to swim, or die trying.
