Insanely fun bunnyhopping experience if you're going for good times and beat the dev's face heh. There are no flaws about the gameplay, other than one funky collision where you lose speed if you barely land on a platform at high speed. Really, *really* recommended to try out at least at some point.

Quick Score: 3/5 This is the first game of this style I've ever played. Its overall pretty well made, and decently enjoyable to a point. However when going for diamond medals and speedrun times, there are many aspects of the movement and level design that I found incredibly annoying. My major issues with the game are the way fans work, the million little spinning objects and obstacles on various cycles on every single level, the way that the level cycles begin before you even start the level. The game is also incredibly repetitive and bland in terms of level design. Both mechanically and visually. I made it all the way through the D section with Diamond medals before finally just quitting on the E section because I just was not enjoying the game at all anymore. I would say give the game a shot, but don't expect anything incredible.

An amazing bunny hop game that takes everything I dislike about Source movement and improves upon it. Highly recommended.

While on the cover Extricate looks like the 99 millionth bad ripoff bhopping game I feel like this game was actually a lot of fun and was challenging as well. Of course it is not 1 to 1 with Source movement like any bhopping game that isn't on Source but that didn't impact my experience too heavily. Bhopping generally feels pretty good and is much more forgiving than Source (you can spin your mouse around at 999 mph and not lose speed and strafing in general is more forgiving) which I think works in this game's favor. There is a lot more tight spacing and precision required on average in Extricate versus most traditional bhopping maps which are largely open with intermittent platforms. Essentially less emphasis is put on your potency when strafing such as commonly emphasized in traditional Source bhop versus the precision of your jumps which is emphasized in Extricate. Bhopping only ever really feels bad when this one bug occurs where you suddenly lose all of your speed the moment you hit the edge of a platform on rare occasions. Other than that I think it feels good although the Source Wizards™ among us might notice anomalies here and there and be put off by them. Extricate does a lot of interesting things with its level design that combine a lot of 2D platformer elements along with 3D platformer elements. An example being having a bunch of bhop platforms in a row that might have various hazards like spikes or rotating lasers in the way. While this might seem really tacky at first I think it is a pretty cool premise and works well for the game. There is a lot of precision involved in the jumping which, combined with the often tight Dev Medal times creates some really difficult levels to 100%. Interesting dynamics also arise when the hazards work on cycles. You eventually have to start thinking about your speed and how many jumps you are taking before reaching a hazard to ensure that you are getting on a good cycle. I think this dynamic was interesting and made me think a lot about my routing in levels rather than strafing constantly to just get as much speed as possible. To my knowledge as well the dev was an avid Hot Lava player which is a bhopping game developed by Klei. I've played a lot of that game as well and had a lot of fun with it so I'd imagine if you were ever a fan of that game that would transfer here as well. Truthfully I think this game is worth a try or at least a poke at to see if you like it before dipping for a refund. It's pretty cheap and I can imagine it'll only be pennies during a sale. I found a few dozen hours of enjoyment out of it and feel like maybe more people can as well.

Extricate is an IL (individual level) speedrun game where the main mechanic is bunny hopping. Now let me preface this and say I am completely new to bunny hopping, i have never played any counter strike game or anything like that - but Extricate does not punish me for that. In fact, the game helped me pick it up pretty quickly and let's me keep seeing my progress through getting faster and faster times on various levels. There is an in game replay system which lets you see top players strats and learn them yourself. I'm really impressed with the level design and the various skips and strats that the devs actually intended for you to use to get great times. This game is a MUST for anyone who likes IL games, speedruns, bunny hopping and, honestly even just FPS movement.

Extricate is an extremely fun and challenging game that fills you with a need to improve your times, just for self gratification, getting higher on the leaderboards or beating friends times. If you are looking for a straight copy of cs strafing or bhopping this is not it, its a simplified version but it doesnt discredit the difficulty of getting good times, some of the mechanics such as fans and platform boosts are hard to perfect but with time you will learn. The levels increase in difficulty at a good pace, all that aside it can be very rage inducing for the impatient so if you are a little hot headed make sure to take breaks.

Coming from CSGO bhopping and surfing, this game is probably one of a few games which tries to mimic that games movement. I think this game is made in the unity engine, which seems to me like a BIG mistakes. This game is all about strafing, but for some reason, you can strafe with or without holding the W key, but it seems like you get more speed with holding W. Again, coming from csgo, I'm used to not holding W while strafing and having to do so is really annoying, otherwise it feels like you just go slower. Also, for some weird reason, they've made it so that you can gain the same amount as the walking speed in midair, just by pressing the movement arrows and not strafing, which makes for some very counter-intuitive movement, especially when you've hit a wall or are trying to slow down in mid-air. When it comes to the actual gameplay, it's very lacklustre. These guys do absolutely not know what makes a platformer fun. I'll tell you what makes a platformer not fun; insta-kill spikes, insta-kill laser, making the platforms way to easy to reach and claustrophobic closed off rooms. This is literally the whole game and there's even more things in the game which are not fun at all in platformers. The rest of the game isn't any better. The graphic are literally the most basics shapes and barely any colour, I turned the music off, not even an hour in and the variety of obstacles is as low as they can get away with. There's literally only: spikes laser, blades (which are pretty much just moving spikes), jumppads and big fans that blow you upwards (which are very annoying to begin with). That's at least the case for how far I got, speaking of which is more than 60% of the game. I completed 60% of the game in 90 minutes and the biggest part of those 90 minutes is grinding the same levels to get stupid useless medals. The game just feels very low effort to me. I've been craving for a bhopping or surfing game, but this just isn't it, it feels like a bad knock-off, which is only fun in the beginning few stages. Edit: The game also doesn't allow 21:9 aspect ratio, is a basic feature in the unity engine.
