  Great tip of the hat to 16bit sega side scrollers with some neat puzzles. Havent finished it yet but so far i dig it.

  Ok so, I really did like this game, it was really fun hacking your way through demons advancing levels, getting stronger as you go and the overall journey is great....but that ending....that ending was so abrupt, I got to the final level I didn't even know I was at the final level, and when things just started to get really good, I was fighting the final boss, mind you again, I had no idea I was fighting the final boss.....this guy was a joke it only took me 3 tries to beat this guy, I had a much much much tougher time fighting the previous bosses, and when I finally finished him.....small dialogue and ROLL CREDITS....really? I mean really? (spoiler) you couldn't put in a few more levels now that I achieved my demon form? come on such wasted potential.... it's a great game, but if I were you I would wait for a sale.... I give it three stars out of five....

  Fun gameplay, graphics are nice but be ready to get your ass whooped unless you're just really good. I played about 2.5 hours on hardcore and 2.5 on normal and didn't get very far, stage 3. Easily one of the better games on the Genesis I'd imagine.

  This game is mediocre in so many ways but ultimately it's just not fun. It's not satisfying to hit enemies and you feel like the game is nudging you towards just dodge rolling through them all. The bosses each have a weakness that you need to exploit but it'll likely take you a little while to figure out how to properly do the thing you clearly have to do. Wailing on them with your sword does nothing. The dungeons barely qualify as "Metroidvania"-style and the only defense of this claim is in the fact that you get one power up per level and then lose it after the boss, that powerup giving you an ability you need to finish the current level and then beat the boss. Also, lots of 2D action platformers give you a better arc for your basic attack or a way to map you dodge roll to a single button. In this game, you have to do the Mega Man slide without a hotkey and your sword swing is much like Alucard's with a short sword in SOTN (not good, hit box is frustratingly tight and small). I don't know, it feels like so many things could have been improved but at the same time it's not a bad game. It's just so mediocre.

  1-Way too much of Annoying repetitive platforming, it seem that creators of this ''masterpiece'' have tried to compensate the lack of action with repetitive platforming, which gets boring very quickly 2-Poor variety of enemies` mostly various insects and such... 3-Linear and annoying boss fighting system 4-Bad hit detection 5-below average graphics for a 16 bit game, which this title claims to be 6-Sounds also poorly made, seem there is no sound at all 7-Musics also are below average Add to all was mentioned above` about 10$ price.....well that's not serious, stuff like this not worth to play even for free!

  Demons of Asteborg is originally a game for SEGA MegaDrive/Genesis that came out in 2021 and it is both available as a physical cartridge and as a downloadable ROM for emulators and flash cards. If you're not into retro gaming and not an avid follower of the market, then this might sound crazy to you and you may ask why would anyone make a game for an outdated console? There are various reasons for that but the main purpose is obviously nostalgia. As a MegaDrive/Genesis game, it pushes the console to its limits. It's a semi-metroidvania platformer inspired by Ghosts and Goblins, Castlevania, Mickey Mania, and Space Harrier. I apologize if I missed any references but these were the ones I was able to spot while playing the game. Each level has its unique enemies that you won't encounter for the rest of the game and they also give you unique skills exclusive to their respective levels, meaning you only get to use them for the duration of that one stage, then they get replaced by another one. You are also technically forced to use those skills against stage bosses with the exception of the first boss. However, you can find or buy specific upgrades that will stick with you for the duration of the game. There are also three difficulty options for you to pick but the received and given damage stays consistent through difficulties. Only changes are the item drops and checkpoints. The story is decent. You're donning the role of Gareth, a royal guard of Asteborg who's trying to prevent a potential demon invasion caused by a breach of pact that had been signed between the demons and humans in order to live peacefully in Asteborg a long time ago. It is supported by flashbacks and some other playable characters which I found quite interesting. Soundtracks are also spot-on and have been composed perfectly and carefully. I personally don't have any complaints about the game but it's worth mentioning that it runs through an emulator so, you may end up changing a few settings each time you boot it up.

  TL;DR

  A semi-metroidvania platformer for SEGA MegaDrive/Genesis that runs through an emulator. If you're into retro games and have a nostalgia itch that needs scratching, look no further than Demons of Asteborg.

  A great action-platformer in the vein of games like Castlevania or Ghouls and Ghosts.There are a few things that bugged me like slowdowns but overall it's as solid of an experience as you can get on a new Megadrive/Genesis game ported to PC.

  Demons of Asteborg promised to be a "Metroidvania" kind of game and it delivers. While it still is pretty linear there's some exploration in all stages. Also I love how you have to use your new abilities to beat each stage and bosses, giving it new mechanics on all of them. There's a ton of variety here. This was originally a Mega Drive/Genesis game and this looks and sounds AMAZING, can say without doubt it is one of the best games ever made for the console and glad all people can play it in the og hardware and digital too.

  Great retro game with good difficulty and pretty smart boss fights, enjoying it tremendously. Graphics are top notch and so is the music. Would've been a real classic on Genesis back in the days :)
