  This game has a lot of potential, but it's starting to feel like the devs just want people to pay a monthly fee to maintain their lifestyle. The "major" updates they release months apart are pretty small and barely improve the game. I'd strongly advice against getting this game in this state, especially on steam.

  The game is good, but the way the developer is handling the beta, for a paid product, keeping most builds for the Patreon while the people who purchased this game is left aside... I id bought this to help the developer but i don't recommend for what he is doing...

If you are not into: furry porn, animalistic genitalia, huge-penises and sexual acts with centaurs and nagas; this game is not for you, needless to say you probably won’t enjoy it.[/u] If you read the [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/1495320/Carnal_Instinct/] steam description of the game[/url], the lore that the devs intend to implement is rather complex and I personally don’t understand it very well. But from what I got from playing the alpha, you are a slave that wants to join the “eternal orgy” …because of course you want to join in. So you fuck and stab your way to victory. And that is all the context that you really need to play the game. [h1] Questions you might have if you're interested in playing it: [/h1] [list] [*][b]What is it exactly that you do in the game?[/b] You explore a decently sized open world map, with lots of lewd quests and opportunities to engage in “social activities” with some pre-selected NPCs. But that is not all, Carnal Instinct has actual gameplay! There is a decent [url=https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/430908015156264962/872583673541709895/Combat_Carnal.gif] combat system [/url], it’s very similar to the melee combat for The Witcher 2, which allows you to solve all the problems that sex can’t. You also have a bow and arrow, nothing special. It’s very simple and it requires more polishing but it’s surprisingly fun. The game also has some dungeon crawling and a bare bones loot system. Even when they are not the best, for a NSFW game, they are top of the line (for the +18 games that I have played). In the description of the game the devs say that they are aiming for AAA graphics. For the most part it delivers, but for some textures they can look a little bit bad. The game looks amazing overall. For the most part the NSFW scenes are well animated and masterfully framed. If you are into this stuff, you will love them. [*][b]Does it have a good story?[/b] I don’t know. The game obviously has deep lore but most of it is not implemented yet. I have to be honest everything is just an excuse to fuck. So I will say “interesting but not fully implemented”. [*][b]Does it have a good soundtrack?[/b] The game has 3 songs: one for the main menu, one for the combat bits and one for when you are exploring the map. It’s not particularly good, but it’s not annoying so I will say it's a solid “fine”. [*][b]Does it have replay value?[/b] You can beat all the content inside the alpha in around 6 hours. The quests are kind of bland and only one of them has a diverting path. In its current state, besides replaying the NSFW scenes, there is little to motivate you to replay it. [*][b]Does it run well?[/b] Yes. I did not encounter a single bug, glitch or frame drop in the many hours that I have spent playing this game. It’s one of the most polished gaming experience that I'v had in 2021. [*][b]Is it fun?[/b] As for the SFW parts of this game, they are fun enough. If you have played and enjoyed any open world game ever you will enjoy it. On the other hand, the NSFW parts are fun and enjoyable. [/list] [h1] So what is Carnal Instinct?[/h1] Carnal Instinct is an open world RPG with NSFW furry elements sprinkled on top. The thing that I like about this game is that you are not forced to engage in the lewd content to enjoy it. This game is a perfectly serviceable open world RPG first and a good NSFW furry game second. It’s true that almost everyone in the game is virtually naked and the story and lore is all about sex, the eternal orgy and even more sex. But you can ignore it all if you want to. Like I said before, this game has some looting. For now, it is limited to skins for your character, some weapons, a couple of shields and a few potions. Most of them are just pointed on your mini-map, but I love how some equipment is only lootable if you pay attention to the environment and you organically pick it up. I hope to see more of this in the 1.0 build. The bosses are fine, nothing special. But as I have said, I appreciate how they really want to make this game as a game first and a NSFW lewd fest second. There is a leveling up system that doesn’t really do anything for you, but hints to more future mechanics that could make the game better. I only mention it because it’s something that the game has, but it’s useless for now. This game currently features sex scenes for almost every sexual preference that I know of, from M/M to F/F and almost everything in between, but is mostly focused on NSFW stuff with females so if you are not into female characters, this game is not for you. I think the developers have plans to justify it’s length or shorten it, but its current state is just annoying. [/list] [h1] Is this game worth my hard earned money?[/h1] The Steam version of this game is updated a couple of times every 3 or 4 months, since the Steam build is guaranteed to be stable. I personally don’t have a problem with waiting for updates. If you really want to be up to date on what is new in the game, skip the steam version and pay monthly to their Patreon. Content wise I think this game deserves your money, if you are into NSFW furry games. This is by far the best one that I have ever played. I can’t wait to see what the finished game ends up looking like. [b]This Review will be updated after the Major updates.[/b] Rating: 7/10 A decent Open World RPG but a great NSFW furry game.

  They intentionally withhold updates from Steam for 3 months. You can't get the full version without paying $20/month for their (online for a single-player game) DRM which makes your game not work if you stop paying. The only novel thing about this game is the english voice acting. There's so much better stuff out there. I recommend not wasting your time. Edit: After a comment, I thought of other things to add 1 - Every update breaks your saves. The save files are in a custom format, probably encrypted; you can't edit them. Obviously it's easy to use cheat engine. I suspect they haven't added in backwards compatibility because it's overcomplicated from their DRM. That's pure speculation, but this type of game is very easy normally to have save compatibility for. That they can't even let you export simple flags like unlocks is incredible. 2 - I was paying for the $20/month subscription, through Patreon. I play this stuff on my main account, of course I'm that type of loser. Anyway--eventually I had issues with the DRM, went to the Discord for support (wasn't told a fix, I figured one out though). The DRM they have is complicated, the source of a lot of support issues...and it's the type of thing that isn't going to hold up to any type of pressure. Nobody's cracked it because nobody wants the subscription version bad enough to put the effort in. I said as much in the Discord--that they should focus on game development, and not waste a bunch of time focusing on writing custom DRM software. After all, I was on Patreon, I figured it was reasonable to comment on how development effort/time was being used. I put it nicer than I am here, they didn't complain about tone or anything, they just made it very clear that topic was totally off limits to discuss the DRM. The DRM that's their #1 source of support issues (I've never seen an indie game with a dedicated support channel in addition to one for bug reports. The developers are constantly telling people how to turn off their antivirus for the DRM etc. It's an insane waste of time)

  Surprisingly few actual reviews of this game so here I go: It's a Skyrim like RPG, in an Egyptian setting that is very sex-positive. This means that next to combat and questing, you can also do sex. + The combat is serviceable. It needs some work but it has promise. + You can switch 'form' wherever/whenever. + Graphics, music and atmosphere are quite decent! + Detail on characters is especially nice. + You can be whatever you want to be (including gender, race, looks, etc.) + Very stable. + The writing and quest variation is decent, plus some surprising voice acting! - No support for anything other than 16:9 - There is a fast-travel system, but only from 'fast travel points'. You will do a LOT of walking. - No auto-run nor sprint, you have to hold the sprint button. As for the sex: + There is jiggle physics for all the parts. + Some of the interactions are more game-like. - Lighting is often not great. - Camera angels mostly obscure private parts and sometimes mess up. All in all, for an alpha build very stable and full of content. Current version (Sept 2022) takes about 6 hours to complete. Should you buy it? Maybe it's nice to support indie developers like this doing something unique and unusual. As for updates; the Steam version apparently gets big updates every quarter (so 4 times a year), while Patreon gets more frequent, smaller updates (which do end up on Steam eventually) I might update this review as the game does more updates.

  Bought it played it and then I found out the game is actually being updated more on Patreon and not here which is absolutely ridiculous cuz I paid 30 bucks for a few quests and then I spent 6 hours figuring out what the hell is going on, So unless you just want to spend your money for no reason this game isn't worth it not until the devs give regular updates. Either just take the game off steam if you don't wish to give updates or let us know that our money wasn't a waste, Truly disappointed rn.

  Pros: Voice acting Good graphics Smooth frames Nudity that doesn't require mods or patch Sexy armors Major character customization Good scenes Cons: Bad clunky repetitive combat Some glitches (most are minor but big two is menu screen sticking from time to time and head armor delete) Lack of weapon diversity Slow (VERY slow) development Long distance fetch quests make up majority of quests Unimplemented systems (breeding, pregnancy, abilities, and carnal level is basically pointless right now) Very incomplete story Lack of scenarios, positions, etc. Game has potential but dev needs to speed up on getting content that's said "Coming Soon" out because soon =/= years. Release more of the Map as well and get abilities up and running because those have been dangling in front of us for far too long. Some new story or side quests would be great as well. It's been long enough since I got this game that I don't feel bad saying this.

  This game feels like it was tailor-made for the kinda person who installs nude/sex mods into open-world games like Skyrim. Surprisingly solid gameplay on top of the sex too. The sex is pretty high fidelity and you have a good list of customization options for you character who you can alter at any time. Only 2 major complains though; One being that there's some god-awful clipping of genitals on occasion, and the other is that, even with a camera you can move and change the angle on, the angles for some scenes are so bad that you can barely see anything. Game is still in early-alpha and the quality is so high otherwise that I personally have high hopes that these issues will be resolved in due time If you like Skyrim but find yourself wishing you could fuck every character you came across, then this is the game for you.
