The Unfinished Swan 機能

From the creators of What Remains of Edith Finch.

Explore a mysterious all-white landscape by splatting paint to reveal the world around you in The Unfinished Swan. As Monroe, a 10-year-old orphan, you'll follow a swan that's stepped out of an unfinished painting and wandered off into a surreal, storybook-inspired kingdom. Each chapter brings surprises, new ways to explore the world, a host of bizarre (and sometimes dangerous) creatures, and encounters with the eccentric king who built this empire.

This is one of the best puzzle games I ever played. If you're looking for a simple game, with good story and relaxing gameplay, this game is for you.

Unfinished Swan shows a desperate finding for something that remains unfinished. As Alice through the mirror or even the Little Nemo traveling through another realm this whole empty painting awaits you to give a moral response for things that stay with us in our present time as white and black while it's up to us to end it with the colours of our dreams.

I jumped at this title when I heard it was by Giant Sparrow. Edith Finch was a brilliant game and I was eager to see what else this team had accomplished. Initially, I did not know what to make of Unfinished Swan. You start in a white world and start shooting random splotches of black ink. I was not impressed. Then, I realized that an environment was beginning to take shape around me. A bench, a path, a dock, a fish jumping, a garden, a doorway. Soon, I was hooked. Unfinished Swan is a journey through a storybook with a king, a castle, a dark forest, etc. While each chapter has it's own feel, all require you to modify the environment as you go. This may be accomplished by shooting paint balls to reveal details, building blocks to create a path, growing vines to bridge gaps, etc. As you move through the chapters, there are balloons to 'liberate' and story pages to uncover. There is no inventory and the puzzle element is figuring out how to navigate through one environment to the next. The art is unique and different chapters have different styles. The sound track is fairly minimal and I played with my headphones off for most of the game. The exception to this is the narrator who does a wonderful job of reading the story, as it unfolds. I truly enjoyed this game. It had some challenges in terms of jumping and finding balloons in difficult locations (balloon gathering is optional). Overall, it is just a really interesting game to explore. It feels like a child's fairy tale but has layers of complexity. If you are a thoughtful gamer who wants to experience something different and intriguing, I highly recommend The Unfinished Swan. It is absolutely nothing like Edith Finch but it is a very well done game that stands on its own.

I'm down at 5 hours to complete the game but a lot of that was on pause. Once or twice i played and closed just before reaching a checkpoint, so had to backtrack next time I loaded. I'd say I spent about 4 hours actually playing new material. I would recommend it but with a caution. It's just too short. I won't complain about the graphics. I can see that they were done for a reason. I may replay it to get the 4 achievements I missed, but I'd not play it much, if at all, after that. This could just be the type of gamer I am. I like my Witcher, Tomb Raider and Dishonored type of games most. Other games I enjoy when I want a relaxing break from all the rush and gore. I didn't find this too relaxing. There was something compelling enough about it to make me want to finish it, though. Others have criticised the story. I quite liked it. It's simple, yes, but I guess the whole thing is meant to be like a story invented by a child, but with adult interpretations possible, certainly at the end. I paid £12 or so for it. That's not the value for money of a game like Witcher 3, but if I play again to get all achievements, it could work out about £1 an hour. I've paid more than £20 for a meal that I eat in an hour, a lot of which is waiting for the courses to arrive! Putting it that way, it doesn't seem so bad. If you bear in mind the shortness of the game and it's at a price you can afford, give it a try.

I would just barely recommend this game. I had hoped this game would deliver some of the magical realism of What Remains of Edith Finch, which I consider to be one of the best games I've ever played. But where Edith Finch wins out is in the narrative and the characters: there's a richness and darkness there that captivates you, even when the gameplay is repetitive or simple. It feels like you're building and living the story as it happens. Not so in The Unfinished Swan. Although you are building the world (quite literally) through a series of artistic decisions (paintballs, platforms, vines), the magic exists only in the gameplay, not in the story. Yes, there's a little storybook tale about unfinished paintings and magic kingdoms, and maybe it's all meant to be a metaphor about the unfinished stories and art we leave behind on this earth, but it never really came together for me. It felt, dare I say, unfinished? (I'm positive I'm not the only person to make that joke, but let me have this one.) However, the environments were interesting and varied, and it was a delight to reveal and shape them with paint splatters and other artistic techniques at your disposal. The mechanism for creating/revealing/illuminating the world changed from section to section, which helped keep things fresh and created a minor puzzle-solving element that was interesting enough. The downsides, however, were that:

The puzzles themselves were simple.
The puzzles let you reveal pages of the story, and some areas mirrored the story, but the two didn't dovetail together as nicely as Edith Finch.
The world could be disorienting.
Playtime was short. I finished in under 3.5 hours, and I really thought I took my time.
The balloons hidden everywhere were annoying to find, and the game was nowhere near interesting enough for me to play again and hunt the missing ones down.
I found myself regularly checking the menu to see how many chapters I had left to get through. Nothing about the game propelled me forward, and it felt like a chore to go back and finish after not playing for a few weeks.
It could be I'm the wrong audience, but I think this came could have benefited from being longer with a better storyline, or shorter, left to a proof of concept. I was enthralled at the beginning, but it quickly lost its luster for me. Still, I respect what the game was trying to do, and it did some of those things well. Get it on super sale, and keep your expectations low: it's a light, charming, somewhat repetitive puzzle platformer with a decent gameplay mechanism. That's all.

The Unfinished Swan is a beautiful and creative game that implements an unique spin on the "throw paint" puzzle game genre. The levels are well designed with new mechanics introduced in each chapter and hidden collectibles (balloons) throughout. These balloons can be used to unlock toys which can help you find collectibles and give you an upgraded ability. The game can be finished between 2-3 hours and features a relaxing soundtrack. Great game overall [8/10]

I played this game on Playstation 3, and Playstation 4 when I was younger a fell in love with the art and style of the game. Though the puzzles are not the hardest and the game not being the longest. There is a huge spot in my heart for this game. The music and the story telling works really well. My brother would always see me playing this game and ask "again?". The funniest part about that is that he walked into my room again today after 8 years and said those same exact words "again?". I would recommend going for all the achievements in the game finding all the balloons. I'm really happy it finally came to PC. There is a Finch who knows a little more about the story ;).

Let me just start by saying that I adore What Remains of Edith Finch. It is one of my favorite games of all time because of how it blended gameplay and storytelling so seamlessly. So, when I found out the developers behind Edith Finch had a previous game I knew nothing about come to steam, I bought it within minutes of finding out. I LOVE the concept of this game. Painting your surrounding to reveal what comes ahead and using the paint to solve puzzles is a really novel concept. The storytelling is more story-like than Edith Finch; both literally and metaphorically, which is either a good or bad thing depending on your preference. Sadly, I wasn't able to finish the game. I played it for about an hour before I realized I had a pretty bad headache and was feeling quite nauseous. I realized that I became motion sick from playing the game. After quickly looking it up online, I found out I wasn't the only one who got motion sick playing this game. This isn't a negative review but I want to be honest and say I can't recommend this game (as of writing this review) because of the fact that I got motion sick playing. I honestly don't know what did it, because my favorite genre is the FPS. I wasn't originally going to post this review, but after seeing other people online say the game gave them motion sickness, and seeing how one of the other reviews on here said the game made them dizzy after 20 minutes of playing, I decided to post this review. TL;DR: It's a good game that is super creative, but I got motion sick playing it. Go try it out for yourself before writing this game off after reading this review. EDIT: I slept on it and finished the second half of the game. I loved the second half and it was super creative in how it handled its mechanics. I am still going to leave this review as "not recommended." I wouldn't say the motion sickness killed the experience for me, but it did slightly negatively affect it. As for what may have caused the motion sickness, I asked a friend and he said that "if the brain doesn't have reference points it dies" on discord, which I guess makes sense. Again go play the game because it is really that good and hopefully you won't have the same problem that I did play it! EDIT 2: I am awarding this game for the Steam Awards for Best Narrative. I would give Red Dead Redemption 2 the award, but I wanted to give it Game of the Year. One last thing: this was my first review so I didn't know I have to manually turn on comments. They should be on now and I'm sorry if you wanted to comment on this review when I posted it and couldn't.
