  EDIT 6/2/22: I think the problem described below got fixed in a patch on Monday, May 30th... ----------------------------------- This game is great, but holy fuck this is annoying: I have not once, not twice, but THREE times lost an uncommon/rare item in the weaponsmith's store, selling it "by ACCIDENT" while not even trying to sell it. For example: I went into the store, went to sell my extra Iron Mace because I had bought an uncommon (green) one... I go to select to sell the Iron Mace (I triple check that I click IT, and not the green item)... and sure enough, it sells the green item which was EQUIPPED. This also happened with a breastplate in the armour store, and the other third item which I don't recall anymore... Initially I thought this was my fuck-up, but, after the 2nd instance and my paying closer attention to this third instance I just listed, it HAS to be a bug. I don't know if I'm making sense writing any of this, but please investigate this if you can - this is kind of irritating because we have to wait 3 days to refresh the shops... and MAYBE get a decent item to buy from there thereafter. An issue like this doesn't really correlate when considering that the game is 'on a timer'. Maybe also consider adding a "buyback" feature for the store, so that people can buy back items (up to a limit - say 4 items at a time available to buy back) in case something like this happens. Another idea is to add a prompt that asks you to CONFIRM which item you are trying to sell (so that you don't blindly sell the thing you actually want because of inattentiveness). Hopefully this makes sense. Otherwise, this game is fantastic - thank you for bringing it.

[h1]General Gameplay[/h1] The prime activity as a Gladiator will be - you guessed it – to defeat other Gladiators from one place to the other in the different arenas around the world map of Brandor If that sounds boring, you couldn’t be more wrong. Create your Gladiator and then show who is the boss. Not only that but you will get a chance to defeat the Regional Champions of each arena and the Grand Champions. You will progressively unlock, skills and encounter other fellow friends that will help you get stronger as the dangers and hindrances become consequently more complex. Choose your skill points and stats points wisely and manage your gold. Buy weapons and armors in the shops with a random chance to appear gear like in Diablo or S&S 3 with different stats and buff bonuses that will benefit your gladiator. [h1]Combat System[/h1] You start a weak but you gradually grow more powerfull! The combat is refreshing and yet plays simple like the other games in the S&S franchise. Definitely requires more tactical thinking than the previous S&S games with the stress meter mechanic and climate effects and traits for specific races. Different from the other games, this installement when you loose a fight the only penalty for it is a day wasted and some gold lost, which it’s not bad but can make a difference in the future.   For a lot of people, Swords and Sandals is a pure hit of nostalgia, myself included. I still remember when I first played Swords and Sandals I: Gladiator, I'd never really played anything like it, I remember staying up late on school nights and grinding out progress on my character, watching him slowly grow from a lowly prisoner to a true gladiator. That was the beginning of my long lasting love for this series, and when I saw there was a new entry on Steam, I was elated. The iconic sounds and music never truly left me and the first time I booted up Swords and Sandals: Immortals I was immediately hit with a comforting feeling, like the embrace of an old friend. I was pleased to see that the game in many ways pays homage to its roots, without spoiling anything if this game means to you what it means to me I think you're in for a treat. Some people might think the art style looks dated and samey, but I think it's progressed in all the right ways while staying true to the essence of the games; after all it was never about the graphics, at least for me. If you're a longtime fan of Swords and Sandals like I am, I'm confident you won't regret dusting off your sandals once more to step into the arena, and I think you'll feel right at home.

  This game reminded me of my childhood when I would play Swords & Sandals from various internet sites and having fun with friends together. This game had come from long years of experience out of developer Oliver who kept continuing what he has promised to do, a badge of perseverance. Now it's amazing to see my childhood game come this far evolved but still preserving its soul, manifesting itself in this game. Really nothing not to like here. Strategical turn based action, makes you use your brain while having hilarious moments. If you've never seen a Swords & Sandals game before, go in blind and have fun yourself. Totally worth it.

  Swords and Sandals Immortals - A great apex of an old flash game series.

  I'll keep it short and sweet. Swords and Sandals is a game I played a lot as a kid. I remember finishing S&S 2 and 3 as a 6 year old on those old flash game websites like MaxGames and Armour Games. It is a turn-based fighting game series focused on comedic gladiatorial combat. Immortals is a great addition to the franchise, and easily the best game in the series, even without all the features being properly added yet as it is still in early access. For a small indie game, it has a decent amount of lore and storytelling. The gameplay is extremely simple but very addicting, which is what made playing the older games which honestly amounted to "Press buttons until you win, then get stats that let you hit more frequently and harder". (With the notable outliers of some stuff like mostly Agility and some uses of Charisma) It doesn't change much from the older games, but the RPG elements of being able to customise your character further both in terms of what abilities you use and what build you can make is much, much greater; Adding to the replayability as well as the fun of it. The greatest strengths in the game are the charm of it, having a very cozy and nice OST, and a lot of creative artistic and gameplay additions, as well as the final boss. This review will have no spoilers, but the final boss is amazing. The game also has an open-world with a time limit akin to Fallout 1. At first, this seemed somewhat baffling as it made me fear not being able to finish customising my character to my optimal point, but thankfully there is a level cap that you can somewhat comfortably reach with just a bit of skill and still have some time to get better items. Furthermore, the various areas of the world (as aforementioned) have some nice storytelling. Not anything like a Fromsoft title of course, but it's definitely amazing for the scope and themes it goes for. These areas also have unique gameplay restrictions that you can either skip and lose some time, or make your gladiator more versatile to face it, which is an amazing addition. In conclusion, Swords and Sandals Immortals is an amazing little game that definitely deserves more recognition. I have played it non-stop for three days ever since I got it, and with the final boss dropping yesterday, I was blown away. There are still some worries and issues, the AI is not good and there are still bugs to be ironed out, but as the game is still in early access while the developer drops updates fixing bugs and fine-tuning the game at an inhuman pace, this should not be an issue. Ratings: Gameplay: 8.5/10 (Simple, but very addicting with small details that are to be appreciated.) Story: 7/10 (Surprisingly big for such a small game. Not anything to focus on but it adds a lot of charm to the world.) Technical Performance: 5/10 (A substantial amount of AI issues and bugs, but these bugs are not too bad as to substantially hinder the gameplay.) Replayability: 8.5/10 (Great RPG mechanics allow for many different builds to be used when resetting. Only way it can get better is RNG affecting bigger things in the game on each playthrough, but this is absent.) Art & Music: 8/10 (The artstyle is very cozy, and at times it looks beautiful just due to some creative and ingenious little tricks. Musically, the game has a small amount of tracks, but with a good amount of variety with everything from Carpenter Brut-like electronic music to thrash / death metal; With some being great to listen to even after finishing the game.) Overall: 7.5/10 (Early Access) | Potentially 8.5/10 with all the technical issues fixed and some small additions in regards to balance and flavour.
