About the Game

The latest instalment in the award-winning series, Sniper Elite 5 offers unparalleled sniping, tactical third-person combat and an enhanced kill cam. Fight your way across the most immersive maps yet, with many real-world locations captured in stunning detail, and an improved traversal system that lets you explore more of them than ever before.

France, 1944 – As part of a covert US Rangers operation to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany, elite marksman Karl Fairburne makes contact with the French Resistance. Soon they uncover a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe: Operation Kraken.

EXPANSIVE CAMPAIGN

Many real-world locations have been captured using photogrammetry to recreate a living, immersive environment, and multiple infiltration and extraction points and kill list targets provide a whole new perspective on each mission. Take on the Nazi plot solo or work with a partner, with improved co-op mechanics allowing you to share ammo and items, give orders and heal each other.

ADVANCED GUNPLAY PHYSICS AND TRAVERSAL

Use ziplines, slide down slopes and shimmy along ledges to reach the perfect vantage point, or to sneak past a sharp-eyed lookout. Factor in rifle stock and barrel options along with gravity, wind and heart rate while you line up your sights on the target.

HIGH CALIBRE CUSTOMISATION

Use workbenches to customise and upgrade virtually every aspect of your weapon – change scopes, stocks, barrels, magazines and more. Rifles, secondaries and pistols all have a huge variety of options. On top of that you can select the ammo to suit your target, from armour-piercing right down to non-lethal.

INVASION MODE – CAMPAIGN DROP IN PvP AND CO-OP

Invade another player’s Campaign as an Axis sniper and engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, providing a new dimension to the challenge as you stalk your prey. Alternatively, as Karl you can call for assistance and have a second sniper drop in to help you out of a tricky situation.

TENSE ADVERSARIAL MULTIPLAYER

Customise your character and loadout and earn XP, medals and ribbons as you take on intensely competitive 16 player battles that will really test your sharpshooting skills. If co-op’s more your style, you can team up with up to 3 other players against waves of enemies in Survival mode.

ENHANCED KILL CAM

More realistic and grisly than ever, the trademark X-ray kill cam returns, showing you the true destructive power of each shot. Bones deflect bullets unpredictably, ripping a new path through enemy bodies. SMGs and pistols can also trigger kill cams, including multiple shots in dramatic slow motion.

This is the SE I always wanted after SE1 ;-) This is the sequel I've always expected in modern times and now I finally got it with a FOV slider. The FOV in SE2/3/4 made these games almost unplayable for me, there was no mod and Rebellion refused to address this issue for so long. But now we finally have it, an SE that really gives you all the freedom you've ever wanted and it's just a great game. I especially love these extremely large and detailed maps, made with so much attention to detail and hidden things. Depending on your playstyle, you can waste hours on a single mission. I personally prefer to play stealth with a bit of action here and there. Well, let's face it, the action happens when I do a stupid thing and all hell breaks loose, and that's where this game shines in my opinion. If that happens, it doesn't mess up the whole mission. It's always like having a small battlefield, on the larger battlefield. It's not realistic, but it's still fun. Nobody wants to lose their mission because of a mistake or reload afterwards. At least I personally like to live with my mistakes in this game and the game is perfectly designed for that. I have to mention it again, the maps are insanely cool, there is so much to discover, even beyond the side objectives. I can't imagine how much work it was to finish all these maps and make them work with everything on them. I haven't beaten the game yet, but now, after about 15 hours, I'm already giving it a 4/5 considering I had it on sale for only $17 (Please no more SE without FOV slider) Peace ;-)

I'm an older gamer and enjoy sniper games. Not as fast paced, and I don't play online war games as I usually get my butt kicked fairly quick, so, the sniper games are fun for me. I have the complete Sniper Elite series and have been playing them since the first one was released. I play mostly on the cadet mode as that is where, for me, it is most fun. I get this "review" is not what most are looking for but I just wanted to say I am having fun and so far enjoying the game as I hope you will too.

If Call of Duty is too fast for you, this game is perfect. Play cadet level if you want to just relax a little and snoop around taking pop shots. I'm 56 and this game is great for people who aren't as fast with the trigger anymore... ie, on Cadet level :-)

Love it! a great game, bought it yesterday and I never stopped playing it till half two this morning! I can do that as I am a Very young at Heart old man of eighty!!!! My wife and I bought our first gaming machine the Phillips G7000 in the late 70s I think young people would like it on multi-player but what do I know! I only like single player!

Unfortunately a 6.5/10 for me at the moment. Core elements remain the same as in previous iterations, but new mechanics are implemented very poorly and detract from the overall experience. Most notably, the developers added vertical movement (a la Assassin's Creed), but--unlike in AC--while you can climb *some* surfaces such as vines, you can't even walk up the bank of a road or hop over a small pile of rocks. This leads to extremely awkward gameplay where you are never sure whether you can climb over something or not (usually not), and have to try first to find out. The aforementioned problem also means that the large open map, another new feature, is actually not large at all. For example, there are some roads that you simply cannot walk off of because you are somehow unable to ascend a 15 degree incline, despite being able to climb the side of a house. Compounding this problem are barriers that have absolutely no reason to be barriers, such as slightly-dense foliage and low walls. Why can I climb over medium walls but not low walls? The worst is when you find out you can actually climb something, such as as a side of a house--only to realize that it leads to a dead end (i.e. you cannot top out) and your only option is to climb back down. Remove the ambiguity, please. The redeeming quality is that, once you get past the fence that could only be cut in one place but not another, and actually get sniping, it's the same old goodness as before.

I read the reviews before getting this game and I was a little skeptical but I risked it and let me tell you : BEST DECISION EVER! Personally, I bought every Sniper Elite game since the SE V2. I played all of them for like 3-4 hours so I thought this is just one more for the collection and it will sit in my inventory never to be played. This one hits different though. This is going to be a longer review but I wanted to clear things for people who are skeptical like I first was. How I play the game: -I play at sharpshooter (medium) difficulty for everything except the sniping which I play at the hardest difficulty Authentic. -I NEVER engage in combat and play every mission undetected. It takes me approximately 150-200 minutes per mission (usually 90-100% completion for collectibles). -Sometimes I take 10 minutes just to do recon and learn NPC's paths from a distance before deciding my next move. Also, I ALWAYS hide the bodies or throw them out of sight when possible as to avoid suspicion. -Sometimes I stay in a corner encircled by NPC's for several minutes just waiting for an opening. I also make use of ALL of the available equipment (70% is bottles/whistle/sticky grenades). -If they find a body or I create an explosion and they start investigating I simply plan ahead where to hide and wait it out. -I really try to stick to the games script and play it as if it was real. Sometimes I even reload a situation if I don't like the outcome or it comes off too unrealistic. With that being said, nothing is stopping me to try and snipe everyone or run and gun in with my smg... But I just find it so much more satisfying when your have to work for every kill. Also that way, the x-ray cam when you finally have the opportunity for a long shot never gets old! LOADOUT: -Springfield M.1903 with attachments that maximize long range shooting (reduce bullet drop and add power). I also use the silencer that doesn't affect bullet drop (gun is audible from 87m). -The rest doesn't really matter lol. But I usually use a silenced pistol and silenced smg. 1st negative point I saw in the reviews: You have to play online to unlock certain things: -The only things that you unlock through multiplayer are a couple of COSMETIC skins for the guns and some character skins that you can play in the main story instead of Karl. -Every other gun/attachment that actually changes the gameplay is unlocked while playing the story. 2nd negative point I saw in the reviews: You get less xp when you turn off Invasion mechanic for you campaign. This is true, however: -The skill tree is like 70% useless in my opinion so xp is really not that important as it is only used to unlock perks. -When you thoroughly complete each mission, you get more than enough xp to max out the different skill trees without needing to enable Invasions. -I am currently on mission 6 and need 2-3 more skill points to max out my skill tree. -To give you an example, I've only lost like 3 health bars total in all of my 6 missions so far. -Once I complete the campaign I will try out the Invasion mode to have a change of pace and work towards 100% completion but is really not required to fully enjoy the story and all of the weapons, attachments, etc the game has to offer. 3rd negative point I saw in the reviews: There is not enough sniping from huge distances going on. Instead, game is focused on stealth and sneaking around with pistol. -Personally I get somewhere between 10-15 long shots (100m-450m), 15-20 short range pistol kills (10m-40m) and like 20-30 takedowns. Tip: when you perform takedowns try to pacify them as it gives you considerably more xp at the end of the mission. -Here is the difficult thing : You REALLY have to plan your approach. Sometimes I don't take the cool long shot x-ray cam even though it kills me inside because I know it will screw my whole stealth set up. -The 3rd mission offers a ton of great opportunities for like 300m-500m shots in the beginning before you start approaching the castle. Just use your binoculars to scout around. 4th negative point I saw in the reviews: There are bugs and you often get stuck on like small ledges. -Yes you do get stuck on some stupid small rubble sometimes but you just go around it or find another path because the game doesn't want you to go through there. Didn't really affect my gameplay at all. -There are some bugs that I saw like enemies getting stuck in object or walls. Nothing that prevents you to complete the game properly tho. -WARNING: In mission 4 (war factory) it took me an hour to complete the kill list target with the special objective (using the rat bomb to kill him). This was the only really annoying bug so far. I really hope this helps you have a better idea of what to expect from this game! I hope you get to enjoy it as much as I do! :)

The game is fine, but that's not what this review is about. The new 'invasion' mechanic is implemented horribly. I don't know who worked on it, but it suddenly expects you to play like you're in some battle royale arena instead of Sniper Elite. I was invaded in the first level, died because I tried to be aggressive, and was immediately invaded again, so I decided to find a defensible location and watch my angles of approach (y'know, like a sniper, in my sniping game) but was immediately penalised for 'camping' by having my location revealed. It wouldn't be so bad if there was some incentive to approach each other over time, but with open maps the size of some small countries, no time limit, and no regular hints about where the other guy is hiding (unless you use telephones, which can be booby-trapped), dealing with a single invader can take upwards of ten minutes. And this, in turn, wouldn't be such a big deal either, if you didn't get XP docked for playing with invasions disabled. If Rebellion is so proud of this new "feature" that they'll punish you for opting out, you'd think they'd have made sure to iron out the kinks first. I'll review this game properly if they find some way to make the invasions fun, or stop punishing people who opt out, because right now, they're a stain on the whole experience.
