  So here's the thing, I want to love this game. It's a japanese themed dungeon crawler. However, its interface and UX design is terrible. Tons of really annoying things add up, like you press escape and cycle through to your map, then press escape to close it but that doesn't work. You have to manually click the X to get it to close. It has a party splitting mechanic that seems like a novel idea, but you have to create your own hotkeys for it because who knows what Alpha 1, Alpha 2, and Alpha 3 buttons are on the key board? Also so far in the game all its used for is to push multiple floor panels at once. I'd rather throw an old school rock or drop a weight because it's less of an inconvenience. Some of the sound effects are REALLY loud. Some times the keys are unresponsive by design. You try to dodge an attack but the animation has already started so you gotta sit there. Timed puzzles, at least the one I encountered, are one shot. There are signs everyone explaining the obvious but this one said that if I hurry I get a great prize. I knew exactly where to go when I pulled the lever but there were no sound effects to give you feedback that something was happening, like how every other game handles it, so I hesitated a bit. I ran over to the spot, gate was closed, ran back to the switch to try again, nope. That was my shot. Also there are save spots points... why... I'm just knit picky on that point, they can do save points by design. All that UX stuff is pretty inexcusable though. So why do I recommend it? Because underneath all the annoying stuff is still a fairly solid seeming japanese based dungeon crawler and I REALLY REALLY hope the dev actually plays their own game and fixes all the poor interface decisions they made. Who knows though.

  I have not completed the game yet, so should my mind change, I will change this review. As it stands right now, however, I think the game is awesome. I absolutely ADORE the atmosphere and the monsters. The concept itself is also brilliant. A proper ancient Japanese gaming experience. Is it as good as Legend of Grimrock? Probably not, but it's still a very interesting game.

  The splitting of the party is worthless. The game play is Eye of the Beholder with better graphics. The Japanese ethos is nice but does not carry the game. Appears dead. On sale, fine. $15...nah

  [u]Most of the UI and gameplay issues raised in previous negative reviews have been fixed.[/u] This game is much improved after the recent update (verison 2). Plays like a relaxing Japanese Grimrock lite. It is quite possible to run through the game without getting stuck in about 7-8 hours depending on death / collecting all secrets. It lacks alot of depth but I had fun.
