  [h1]TL:DR? See Conclusion[/h1] [h1]INTRODUCTION:[/h1] Crysis 2 is a first-person shooter developed by Crytek using the Cry Engine 3. It serves as a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2007 game Crysis and is the first game on the franchise to be released on the consoles as opposed to the first game that was PC exclusive. The game puts the player in the shoes of a U.S. Marine named Alcatraz whose team was sent to Manhattan to assist in rescuing civilians after an epidemic has infected the city. Shortly after arrival, an unknown enemy attacked their Submarine, thus forcing the team to swim to the surface only to be gunned down by an Alien gunship. Luckily, Laurence "Prophet" Barnes, former team leader of Raptor Team (Crysis 1) and known Nano-suit user, finds Alcatraz and bestows upon him his mission (along with the Nano-suit), before shooting himself in the head. Alcatraz now faces a city at the brink of collapse due to the on-going battle between the US Military, Cell Paramilitary Forces and the Alien race called the Ceph. [h1]PROS:[/h1] + Beautiful graphics and User Interface + Excellent sound quality, voice acting and music + New mechanics like cover and quick activation keys (to access Nano-suit abilities for a more dynamic gameplay) + Good story line that delves into the true nature of the Nano-suit and the Alien Invasion + New customization options for the Nano-suit but...(See CON #1) + Expanded weapon selection and upgrades + Challenging but fair difficulties which highlights the use of each Nano-suit functions and upgrades + Collectibles that expands the story + Multiple ways to complete an objective despite the more linear maps [h1]CONS:[/h1] - Nano-suit upgrades are limited with some of them being outright better than the others - AI glitches at some areas, especially after reloading from the last checkpoint - Gun models take up a quarter of the screen (as if the gun was being held directly near Alcatraz's face) - Horrible FOV (Field of View) [h1]CONCLUSION:[/h1] GREAT GAME. Crysis 2, like its predecessor, has some of the most amazing graphical fidelity of its time which still holds up even today as it can be seen in its high-resolution textures, dynamic lighting, and beautifully crafted levels and sceneries. The game introduces new mechanics such as a new cover system, Nano-suit upgrade system, expanded weapon selection, and a revamped Nano-suit ability activation mechanic. Despite the occasionally glitchy but challenging AI, you'll have an intense and action packed experience. The game could last you at least 8 hours of game time with your average difficulty setting and around 10 hours with the harder ones in single player. Do you buy this at full price?   This game builds on the strengths of the first instalment in the series while crucially fixing many of its original flaws. The gameplay, level design and enemies are greatly improved, making this a fun-to-play game that can be easily recommended.

  Crysis 2, like the original is a first person shooter. The game was released in early 2011. It also follows on from the plot of Crysis 1 as well. Although you don't really need to have played the original in order to follow the story. Crysis 2 was also the first game to use the CryEngine 3. The game play has all of the regular FPS style features. You play the role of a Recon Marine, called Alcatraz. You are able to customize your weapons to match the situations you are in, as well as customizing your suite to the same too. Crysis 2 is set in New York City, which is often referred to by many as an urban jungle. This does however offer various different tactical options when it comes to planning attacks; allowing players to navigate between floors and buildings, and ruined buildings. We also see a few changes in the Nanosuit used by our character too; this time you are able to use more than one suit power at a time, the strength and power modes have been combined into the same mode, and the stealth suit has been improved slightly. Crysis 2 has AMAZING graphics; this could easily pass as a game being released recently. If you put all of your settings up to full, you are going to be in amazement at how good this game looks. You will need a beefy rig to keep a steady 60 fps, but my oh my it is worth it. I sadly see no replay-ability in Crysis 2, there are the addition of a couple of difficulty modes, but to be honest; once you have played it the once, there is no reason to play it again. The single-player campaign is a decent length though - we are looking at a 18 hour long story mode which is very good for an FPS. Thankfully I had no technical issues with Crysis 2 (unlike I did have with the original), I was able to play with every graphical setting on ultra and still had 60 frames the whole time. The only thing I will mention is there is no longer any multiplayer support since GameSpy shut it's servers down in May 2014. If you enjoyed the first Crysis game, you will basically enjoy Crysis 2, it's the same just with even better graphics, more compelling story, and stellar FPS action and did I mention the amazing graphics? People may think £20 is a bit steep for a game of this age, however I am completely happy with this price as it almost fits into the £1/hour ratio. 1) Stay away 2) Only recommended when on sale [u]3) Recommended[/u] 4) Highly recommended 5) This is a must play If you found this review helpful, please consider giving it a thumbs up.   [h1]Action packed and beautiful to look at, but too linear for its own good.[/h1] [i]Crysis 2[/i] was developed by Crytek Studios and released by Electronic Arts in March 2011. Four yours earlier, the same developers scored a huge success with the first game in the series, which was well-known at its time of release to be the most demanding pc game ever made. But apart from being a technical masterpiece, pushing graphics to a lever far beyond anything which had been yet achieved, the original [i]Crysis[/i] also offered good gunplay in a fairly big theater of operations. While not being without some problems, the game impressed me and so I started playing [i]Crysis 2[/i] with high expectations. And that's probably exactly where the problems started: from the beginning, I compared this game to its predecessor. And so I expected a gorgeous looking, extremely demanding shooter within a rather open world, allowing for several routes to achieving one's objectives. [i]Crysis 2[/i] definitely managed to impress me on the visual and technical side: visually it offers anything one could wish for, taking into account the game was released over five years ago. The setting has completely shifted from the lush jungle of the first game to an impressive rendering of New York devastated by war. Although visually still impressive, with tons of details and lots of smoke and debris, the urban setting does diminish the large-scale feeling of the first game quite dramatically, and the different levels felt more constricted and definitely a lot smaller. From a purely technical point of view, this game still stands firm, although it does show that it was a console port, rather than a game originally developed for pc. The controls are less fluid and intuitive, and seem geared towards playing with an xbox controller. This was actually the first first-person shooter I've ever played with my controller – normally, I definitely prefer keyboard and mouse in this type of games. But in this case, it simply offered better and more naturally laid out controls. As far as graphical settings go – often a problem with a game first developed for consoles: they were fine, offering enough possibilites to crank up the eye-candy to stunning levels and giving (just) enough options to scale the settings for those wanting to do so. It's not the most demanding game out there anymore, but it still can tax any medium-range system: don't expect it to run at full HD on the ultra preset with anything less than a recent, fast i3 and a good midrange gpu. Given the fact that the game has been used so often as a benchmark for computer systems and graphics cards, I was slightly disappointed not to find some sort if benchmarking tool included, but that's a very minor issue. Much more problematic is the complete transformation as far as the actual gameplay goes. Gone are the open areas where there are several, often radically different, routes to one's objectives. Instead, [i]Crysis 2[/i] offers a series of set pieces: medium-scaled area's with primary and (sometimes) secondary objectives with one or two lines of approach. By using the "tactical mode" of your high-tech suit (more about this in a minute), you can scan the battlefield for enemies, supply stashes, but also for "tactical options", such as the ideal route if going for a stealth approach or the way to go if you want to flank the enemy. In other words: the game wants to hold you by the hand as much as possible! While this might be ok in a very linear first-person horror game, where scripted sequences are of the essence, it is in no way desired in a first-person shooter. I often tried to ignore the tactical suggestions, but mostly found out that there were no viable alternative routes, or that another approach than the one suggested almost inevitably resulted in a quick death. And with its horrendous system of saving only at set (and very irregular) waypoints, dying is something you definitely want to avoid in this game. Fortunately, not all is bad: the story definitely kept my interest throughout the game and often made me persist through a difficult section. It's not a great story – there are a lot of unbelievable plot-twists and too often a mission ends rahter abruptly – but it's better than in most "super human rescues the world from bad guys and aliens"-games. The most interesting aspect of the game is actually the special combat suit (the nanosuit) which you use as the player throughout the game. Just like in the original [i]Crysis[/i] this suit offers several modes of operation: strength, armor & cloak – the last one of course ideal for a stealth-approach. Since I like being stealthy, the cloak-mode turned out to be my best friend, but it's also a tad overpowered if used correctly. The nanosuit can be upgraded during the game with energy provided by killing aliens, but those upgrades often felt tucked-on and didn't offer anything really new. As far as the actual gunplay goes, [i]Crysis 2[/i] surely delivers big time. There are a lot of different, often high-tech weapons out there to try out, and after some playing around with them they proved to be very well balanced and offering more than enough firepower for any chosen playstyle. Especially the energy-based weapons, ideal for mowing down aliens, were great fun to use. In the end, I did enjoy this game, if taken on its own merits: I sneaked up on several guards from behind, killed them with my knife, dashed for cover when I ran out of energy for the cloak mode only to be discovered by an alien who then started to throw emp-grenades at me. Very often I could just hang on in a firefight, having to make split-second decisions in order to survive; at other points, I could move forward at leisure, popping in and out of cloak mode. It was great fun, but it wasn't a gaming experience which I'll remember for years to come. [b]Cautiously recommended: don't compare it to the original game, but enjoy it as a decent first-person shooter. And crank up the volume: the music is fantastic.[/b]

  [h1] THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY CRYSIS 2! [/h1] I just recently played and finished Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Crysis 2. It was my first time playing those games. If you played the first two games and you expect a similar game, be aware that Crysis 2 is quite different. It is a very linear game. You no longer have the open world freedom. It also makes more sense, because you are not in the jungle anymore. You are in the ravaged New York City this time, so many paths are logically blocked, collapsed or barricaded. You still have some tactical options how to solve combat situations. And that makes the game levels quite interesting. You can use your tactical visor to highlight your enemies and tactical options (where to get more guns and ammo, best sniping spot, best way to flank them, best way to use stealth and some others...) Of course you can ignore it all and do your own thing, so we could say you still have some kind of freedom in this Crysis game as well! [b] Visually breathtaking? [/b] Yes! I was impressed even almost 8 years after its release. The game is definitely very good looking and extremely atmospheric with breathtaking effects. In my opinion it's one of the strongest parts of the game. But who would be surprised, right? It was made by Crytek after all! I was playing it on the highest settings with my GTX 970 and the performance was great. Except of one glitch which I experienced approximately once per hour or two. Suddenly a strange lag appears and my games goes from 100 fps to 1 fps. Always stuck on 1 fps... and the only thing which helps is restarting the game. I was trying to find some solution online, but unfortunately no matter what I tried, nothing helped... So be aware of that. If you have the same graphic card, you might run into the same issues like me. I finished the game anyway. It just required replaying some parts after restarting the game. [/b] I like the game controls in Crysis 2 much more than in the previous games. It's set up very well by default already, so I didn't have to do almost any changes to settings. It felt very good and intuitive. Maximum speed by holding shift? Makes sense, right? Jump high when holding space? Makes sense as well. Switching between abilitties was very easy with no energy wasted (using abilities drains the suit's energy). Selecting those things on the ability wheel in the first two games was painful and annoying. And I was too lazy to rebind it all... So they definitely improved the controls in Crysis 2 and I love it! Gameplay-wise it's pretty much the same as in the previous games. You have a special suit but you are not immortal so going invisible-maximum armor-kill-invisible was working well for me. It is not one of the games where you are basically invincible that you can keep fighting without cover for very long time. Your suit has energy and once all your energy is gone, you can't use any of your powers until it recharges. I am not sure how this is on the easier difficulties, because I was playing on the hardest, but I would expect the same. You will be probably able to hold in the fire a little bit longer. [b] Difficulty.[/b] As I already mentioned above I chose the Post-Human Warrior difficulty and I don't regret it at all. The game wasn't too hard. The stealth helps a lot, so many fights can even be avoided completely. If you use the tactical options the game shows you and you are not very new to gaming, I don't see any reason why not to go for the hardest difficulty in this game! Believe in yourself, challenge yourself a bit and test your patience! ;) You can do it! Be aware that the game has a checkpoint system so you can't save the game whenever you want. So keep your guard up until you see that you got to the checkpoint. There are some flaws in the game which make even the hardest difficulty quite easy. There are places where you can be completely safe and you can shoot enemies from there. I managed to win the final fight like that by accident. When I realized that they can't harm me there at all, it all turned into child's play. At least compared to my previous try which ended after few seconds of being under fire in the open, so knowing your environment helps a lot! [b] Story in Crysis 2. [/b] The story is ok. Not the best or something very special and not terrible. I would say it's pretty average. It fulfills its function to support the gameplay. So I would definitely not replay it for the story but more for the tactical gameplay and nice visuals. You don't have any choices in the story which would motivate you to try it again and do things differently. But I am definitely looking forward to the story of Crysis 3 now! [h1] Final verdict [/h1] If you enjoy first person sci-fi shooters with stealth and abilities and you want a visually stunning experience, then with no doubt go for it. You will not regret buying this game! Get it on sale, if you were able to stay away from this game until now, you can handle some more time ;)

  Great fun smashing up aliens in a super suit, even today it's graphics are impressive but that's what the series has always been known for.

  "They used to call me Prophet, remember me." I own and beat the whole franchise on Origin years ago. This is my fourth time playing through Crysis 2, I still have the same thrill hearing this, my favorite line of the series, just like my first time did. It was my honeymoon with EA. EA produced so many good games back then but most got cut later, like Dead Space series. Sadly this series did not survive the evil axe from EA either, Crytek left this franchise on EA’s hold. So after Crysis 3, there will be no sequel of the series. Guess this franchise will eventually be forgotten as the summit of once what the game industry could make. As for Crysis 2, being the highest graphics achievement and the ultimate GPU tester of 2011, it is actually a straightforward shoot-everything-down game, but that did not stop it from high reputation and being one of my favorite games, as the game was pretty well-made in the aspects of graphics, art design, control, level design and soundtrack. + Nano suit is high-tech, making you feel you actually in a future war. Using armor and cloak modes of your nanosuit and various weapons, you could decide your strategy getting through each level, either fight or stealth. + CG is coooooool. + Weapons are advanced, well-designed, and beautiful. + Great soundtrack from famous Oscar-winning musician Hans Zimmer. They sound grand and touching. + Nice graphics even in today's standard. The downfall of the biggest human city, New York, is striking. + Comfy control and shooting. - Enemy AI is a bit tricky, they will quickly spot you if you get exposed, but they also can be dumb enough to ignore you if you turn invisible in a close distance. All in all, it is a flaw but not big deal. - Story of Crysis 2 is average and no surprise for a blockbuster type of game, still I consider it as the best story among the franchise. - From the perspective of the whole franchise, the Crysis story is incoherent and inconsistent. It is like the scriptwriters of each Crysis hate the previous story. Don't pay too much attention to the story, just dive in and feel the vibe of future warfare. It is recommended to all FPS lovers.
