  Witch It Review TL:DR Witch it offers a unique twist on the Prop Hunt genre that was popularized due to the G-Mod game mode. Absolutely a blast with friends and even if you don’t have some, finding people to play with shouldn’t be that hard. A more In-depth review: Witch it is a game of hide and seek in a similar vein to the Prop hunt game mode found in G-mod. While being an early access game (as of writing this review) it offers a fair amount of polish and game play that is accessible and extremely fun to play. A round of “Witch It” involves the server being split into 2 teams; Hunters and Witches. Witches Hide, and Hunters…hunt. Both sides have access to 2 broad categories of powers to aid them; Movement and a special tool or spell. Witches start off the round by finding a prop to transform or possess while the hunters are locked inside of a room for a set time while this is going on. As mentioned earlier each side has access to various abilities where up to 2 may be chosen to be used from a pool of so far 5 abilities at the beginning of the round. Such abilities include a Witch detecting Chicken, yeah you heard me- the hunter has a badass chicken that can detect witches. Witches possess abilities that can confuse or trick a hunter such as the ability to control a decoy prop. Victory is determined like any other game of hide and seek, if every witch is neutralized then Hunters win, and of course if even one Witch survives the Witches win. Content wise the game features customizable aesthetics for each side, over 200 props to disguise as and half a dozen maps or so to play on as of this moment. While no game play is locked off, there is an in game purchase (no doubt more to come) where you can get a costume set for the witch. I would like to add that this isn’t actually very intrusive at all and you won’t see it plastered on the splash screen or main menu begging you to buy it, it’s clearly an optional thing should you want to show more support to the devs; Most aesthetics can be unlocked by playing the game and leveling up (GOOD ON YOU DEVS!). In terms of graphics it’s very pixel like in appearance but all the maps have a charm and theme to them that I quite enjoy them, all feeling quite unique as well. As an early access title it also runs great I’m pushing above 120 FPS on max settings; but my rig isn’t a slouch either. I wouldn’t see an issue on older or less capable hardware. I’ve only ever encountered one bug in Witch I wasn’t able to use my abilities (pun whole heartedly intended). The only glaring weakness to this game is that it has a bit of a small player base, and it is multiplayer only. With that being said I have had no trouble finding full or mostly full servers (NA region atleast) and with it being featured on the steam 2017 winter sale with a price of $11 CAD, its player base can only grow. To the Devs if you’re reading this: I absolutely adore this game and wish you all the best with your continued development. Consider more map variety/themes and adding some more abilities, the game play is rock solid and just needs more variety imo.

  Great fun with friends, family and strangers. You are either a witch or a hunter. The witches hide from the hunters and pretend to be the most innocuous objects, sometimes hiding in plain sight sometimes in deep cover. Pros: + Very customisable game settings + There's a creative mode for creating your own map + Online community seems fairly active + Works well with friends + Funny (jumping rowboat anyone? or throw a chicken to find a witch) + Unlockable content by playing (not paying! yay!) + Plenty of maps and props change places each time you start a new round + Randomiser for "random" maps (voting style) Cons - Get very few items for potions - Need to play in official server with strangers to unlock props for creative mode - Can't modify settings when hosting (private/public) server, got to leave server and start a new one with new settings. - Flying and jumping are a bit tricky to get used to - No controller support - When in verbal communication with your friends it is really hard to stay quiet when you see the hunters pass you by...muahahahaha ;-) Conclusion, definitely worth your money, grab it now it is on offer. We haven't experienced any server problems, glitches or troublesome coding.

  TLDR - Witch It is a hide and seek game. Small community, but there are always people playing. Crafting system for cosmetics. You should play! I have been playing Witch It on and off since the alpha. It is my go to game when I just want to shut off my brain and chill out. Very casual. Very fun. If you are reading this review and considering a purchase, please know this first: The community is very small. The game is not "dead" as some may claim, but often you will not see more than one server full at a time. Players from NA, EU and Asia usually collect on one server to fill it up. There is an official Discord where you can find people playing as well. I have never had an issue finding an active game even with the small community! To some this will be a turn off. For me personally, I feel it makes for a tight knit and friendly community. You see familiar faces when you play and develop friendships. I often take a break from Witch It for a month or so when a new game comes out, but when I come back, I have never had an issue finding games upon my return! Witch It is a very simple concept - The Witches go around the map and hide from the Hunters by disguising themselves as various items found in the map. Hunters throw rocks, potatoes, pickles etc at these various items and try to find the Witches. If they hit a Witch, the Witch will "squeak" and the Hunter then has to kill the Witch, while the Witch tries to escape. Find all the Witches and the Hunters win. Don't find them all and the Witches win. There are a few powers that Hunters have to help find Witches. There are a few powers Witches have to evade Hunters. The game is VERY balanced and VERY charming. The art style, silly sound effects and character design all lead to a whimsical and enjoyable experience. There is a pretty deep character customization system in Witch It as well. The developers are very active and they create small events such as Pirate Event, Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving etc. During these events they often release new outfits for Witches and Hunters. Players can collect these outfits as they level up, and they can also craft them. This is very cool because if a player misses an event, there is always an option to craft items from that event later. There is also an in-game trading system now. Similar to Rocket League, players can trade cosmetics and crafting items with each other. The Discord has a fairly active trading chat room. To find the Discord information, check the Steam discussions. I give Witch It my most highest praise and I hope you consider buying it. It is a charming game, and one that I will always think fondly of. So come give it a try! The community could use more players!

  Best prop hunt game I've ever played. Its also the only one I've ever played, but I am 100% positive there is none that is better.

  So ok,

  Would you *in a regular game of hide and seek with other kids in school* carry around a bucket of ice cold water, and spray widely at random spots, in hope of hearing kids screaming and revealing where they're hiding ...

  ... Or

  would you actually try to search spot after spot and enjoy the thrill of seeking out the hidden? Some of the hunter's skills defeats the purpose of hide and seek. The detecting chicken, power ball, body slam, all focus on revealing big areas at once without investing much thought and work in seeking out the hidden. "Here is a lot of props, instead of checking them one after another and look closely if they move, I'll just body slam the whole pile and see if anything takes damage". I don't know how hard it was to seek out witches in early stages of the game for the developers to add such effortless skills. However, I find it really frustrating to be unintentionally caught in a bodyslam after perfectly aligning myself as a piece of wood against house roof timbers. Right now, with these skills, I can't really recommend the game.
