  Honestly, in it's current state i can't really recommend this game. And i'm usually fairly forgiving of smut games as long as they actually deliver smut, which this one really doesn't. [h1]The Good[/h1] _____________________________ [h1]Art[/h1] The character art and animation in this game is absolutely amazing compared to its contemporaries. Very few games i've played really nail the character art as good as this one. Sadly, it really isn't used to much effect. So while the art is fantastic, there's not nearly enough smut to mark the art do what it does well. The few animated scenes are great too, but again, they are too few and far between. [h1]Music[/h1] While it can get a bit repetitive due to the lack of tracks, the music that is there is pretty good. Nothing to knock your socks off or anything, but good enough. No complaints. [h1]Customization[/h1] Customizing your whores/crew is actually pretty fun. Especially considering you can get them in various shapes and sizes. Femboys, futas, dudebros, and chicks are all pretty well represented. And from what i can assume there will likely be more transformation mechanics in the future. [h1]Potential[/h1] With some refinement(and actually adding some smut) this game could be quite interesting. I could see how they could refine some of the systems to make an interesting game here. Time will tell. [h1]The Bad[/h1] _____________________________ [h1]The Golden Ratio[/h1] This is a terminology i've come up with for myself in regards to smut games. Generally speaking, a smut game needs at least a 40/60 or 60/40 smut/game ratio for me to really be interested. Smut games are in a hard spot because if it has too much "game," why am i not just playing a regular game? As most smut games have fairly average to mediocre gameplay as a result of being smut games. If the game has too much smut, that just begs the question "why not just go look at porn?" since it'd forgo the reason to even be a game. This game falls into the former category, a crying shame considering how good the art is. Games like Corruption of champions, Trials in tainted space, Tales of androgyny, etc all hit this ratio perfectly and are amazing for it. This game is more along the lines of 10/90 in terms of smut/game. And sadly the "game" portions aren't really good enough to carry that. [h1]Grinding[/h1] This game can be insanely grindy if you don't just cheat yourself a billion gold in currency. Some people dig it, but in a smut game this just makes it take even [i]longer[/i] to get to the little smut there already is. You know, the entire point of playing these kinds of games. There's nothing wrong with giving the player things to work towards, but most of the things you'll be paying are straight fees(travel/wages/healing/etc.) Rather than anything that actually feels good to spend money on. [h1]Mission Gameplay[/h1] Exploration missions are, for lack of a better word, fairly boring. You run around a grid map and pray to RNGesus you can get the event tile that will spawn the key so you can actually progress. The combat itself isn't too bad once you get the hang of it, with some refinement it could be good, even. But the lack of audio/visual polish really just drags down the whole experience here as well. All of this could easily be excused with more smut, but as i said earlier, there's barely any. So with this as the game's primary focus rather than a means to an end, the gameplay gets more scrutiny from me. [h1]Interaction[/h1] Interactions with your crew and whores are entirely too barebones. The way the game is structured you feel like you'd at least be able to have a few dialogue options or the ability to engage with sexytimes with your crew, but outside of the main plot they're about as alive as a fire hydrant. Whore interactions are interesting in that they're pure text, but can get pretty repetitive. [h1]Grunting[/h1] While i don't really mind the fact the game doesn't have voice acting, the "grunts" the characters make during speech are often far too frequent and eventually become insanely annoying. It's a minor thing, but it just adds up over time. [h1]Crashing[/h1] Certain actions will just cause the game to crash almost constantly, especially using products on crew members/whores. Save as much as possible, this is just more of an annoyance and will likely get fixed as versions continue. [h1]Conclusion[/h1] For 10 bucks i won't say i feel like it was the worst purchase ever, but i can't really recommend it in its current state. Definitely wait to see if this one gets more time in the oven, because as it stands outside of it's amazing art(which regrettably barely gets used for its intended purpose) there really isn't much of note here. Honestly, the game just needs more smut and character interacting content. A lot more. With that, pretty much most of my points would be entirely forgiveable/forgettable. We'll see how it goes.

Say what? <3[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Patch Required?[/td] [td]No. Easy peezy![/td] [/tr] [/table] Venture Seas is a visual novel where you battle in turn-based, RPG-eske combat and manage a ship and crew. [h1]Game-play[/h1] First and foremost, this title is a visual-novel type of game. You click through text boxes and make decisions on what to say (or not say). When exploring, you enter an "expedition" mode. In this mode, you have a party, complete with health and "runes", special items for combat and special scenes. You have a "backpack" which allows you to take (limited) items from your ship with you, so I'd choose wisely. Expeditions play-out more like an RPG of sorts. You have an over-head map, and you get to explore the area in search of loot and events. Events add experiance and such to your party. If you find yourself involved in a fight (which you will), you use a "deck" of runes. Runes are held in your hand like cards, and are randomly drawn in combat. They modify and and add attacks, or provide special bonus. Combat is turn-based, and each turn both sides attack and utilize their runes. Runes can unlock special scenes in non-combat situations, such as diffusing traps. You must manage your crew, hiring (or [i]firing[/i]) new hands and stocking up on food and equipment. You are able to customize the gear your crew appears in, which is [i]awesome[/i]. If you want you team to roam into battle topless, that's up to you. If [i]you[/i] want to battle topless, well my friends, you [i]certainly can[/i]. [h1]Story[/h1] The game starts with a screen full of [i]endless nothingness[/i], the Void. The protagonist has found themself in the Void, lost and helpless. . . that is, until a shadowy, female-figure comes along. She allows you to be "reborn", and it is [i]here[/i] that you come-upon the character creation screen. I made a short-statured female, loosely based on myself. Emphasis on [i]loosely[/i]. As there was no pre-defined name, I reached for the closest name that came to mind. From nothingness, [i]Womba[/i] was born! [i]Get it? Womba, like, "wombat". . . ?[/i] Womba finds herself in some royal bedroom, and confronted by a "scantily-clad" woman. Her name is Mehande, and she makes it [i]very clear[/i] that she likes Womba's [i]stuff[/i]. And just like that, it was H-scene time. . . and following that, Wombat awoke on-board a ship of sorts. She passed-out from a "sea-water drinking contest". . . I don't think Womba's the sharpest tool in the shed. It hear that your journey (the player) will really begin, as the ship and its crew start exploring for loot. [h1]Visuals[/h1] The visuals are wonderful. The artwork is really beautiful, and the scenes are just so. . . beautiful. The moment I hopped off the starting-ship into the wilderness I was greeted by some stunning forest scene, vibrant with fauna and ship-wrecks. The characters (slightly) move, and the art makes me want to do more as an artist. As an artist, one of the highest compliments one can give is that [i]your work inspires one to draw more[/i]. [h1]Verdict[/h1] From what I've seen, this game is [i]awesome[/i]. I think it's worth a buy for sure, as the production quality really shines. It's a bit pricey (at fifteen USD), but I'm willing to pay a premium when I know I'm playing a [i]premium[/i] product.   I'm writing this review as a straight female. This game is so ridiculously well made, especially when compared to most games out there. The art is gorgeous, the lewd scenes are very tasteful, enticing, unique and well put together. The story is interesting, the characters are interesting, choices feel like they matter! I honestly enjoyed my time playing it alot. I will say though, that as a heterosexual woman, there won't be alot of lewd content for you. It really got my hopes up in the intro scene, where the individual speaking to you takes on the form that you prefer (Btw, holy smokes the male version is a bombshell! Yes please, I'll do anything!). But as of right now, that doesn't lead anywhere. Most everything is aimed towards men or LGBTQ, it is femboy and futa galore. There is a romance system for you to explore and while I can't speak for the female characters, as I haven't romanced them, it feels very barebones. Although that's likely because the male characters are an afterthought in multiple aspects of the game, including the prostitution training (Male dom scenes for examples aren't written yet, as of last time I played. I mean, just hire me and I'll get it done in a jiffy). There are many attractive, masculine presenting NPCs or enemies to encounter, so there is hope! They certainly know how to make gorgeous characters that appeal to pretty much everyone. But the only two you could get dirty with was a thief/rogue somewhere if you were male yourself and an enemy encounter at the beginning, for all genders I assume. Though the last one, not gonna lie, is worth repeating a few times. Other than that: There's some alchemy/bodymod system, just the basics like grow x type genetalia stuff. There's a system for prostitution, which I could never figure out how to work, they're all sourpusses all the time. There's trade as you travel around, buying in one town and selling in another. Character customization and pretty cool equippable gear. A hint of crafting. All in all, solid game minus the lack of attention to the hetero female audience. Which to be fair is probably not their target demographic.

  When I first bought this game I would have recommended it. It was fun and it was still geting updates. It showed real promise. That has changed. The developer decided to re-work a portion of the game and it has since been nothing but empty (so far) promies about art and new systems. We did get a beta branch, but that hasn't recieved any updates in 6 months. Not even simple bugfixes to the issues players have been reporting. The beta is a buggy mess and lacks any of the new art they keep mentioning. The developer responded to another review, saying "I've decided to switch the development focus to fixing the core gameplay issues as a top priority, so that the game in it's current state can be enjoyable". However, we are also being told that updates are delayed because of art. If fixing core gameplay is top priority, wouldn't it then make sense to fix the issues people have been reporting for the beta build? Art is not needed for that. The last 6 months we've heard from the developer twice. The first time they spoke about how COVID-19 was slowing them down. I personally find difficult to believe it would slow them down that much. The second time what we got was "The team has been craving a bit of fun, so we've neglected our highest priorities in favor of focusing on future content", and the rest of the post again spoke about art and systems we still haven't seen on the beta branch. At this point I don't trust the developer anymore, and I can't recommend buying the game.

  This game needed to be a little more complete before being put in early access. Honestly, it kinda makes me think that the creator is going for a cash grab and once the sells die off they simply slap a "complete" on it and walk away. I hope I am wrong, but this early access environment has put a bad taste in my mouth for games this incomplete. I have had several game crashing bugs in the 3 chapters I played. Sometimes when you buy and sell from a vendor the game goes to the "hire" screen and then crashes. I have also noticed that the events in the dungeon are completely RNG as there is an event that even if you are full health will insta-KO your party and you go back to the ship. I have also yet to be able to complete the event where you can use a random item to unlock a chest. The item always breaks. Just make a freakin lockpick you can buy. Probably one of the most obvious problems i have with the game is the narrative from the crew. Every one of the crew will make some type of comment against slavery, repeatedly. Yet, after most battles you are offered the option to "capture" enslave humanoid, sentient creatures. It goes to show that your choices make absolutely no difference in the big picture of the game. Your crew doesn't register that you are a slaver as they make their comments against it. You don't even lose respect from the crew. In fact you can raise crew moral by offering the slave's services for free to the crew. Very tone deaf for a game that relies almost entirely on it narrative since their is only like 4 lightly animated scenes I came across in 8 hours. Lastly, the lack of animated scenes is pretty disappointing. However, the simple fact they could not complete a written description of the scenes is pretty much unacceptable. Once you get a brothel worker to lvl 3 and you can go down a dominant or submissive path, the narrative is simply" We didn't write this part yet". WTF, no seriously WTF. It's not like you had to create new art and animations for these scenes. All you had to do was take about an hour and write a scene and then copy and paste it in the game file. They aren't even writing different scenes. The oral sex scene you have with the worker that hates you(low mood) is the same scene you have with the one that likes you(high mood). So, to simply not have these scenes written at all gives me the impression the creator simply doesn't take pride in their work and doesn't care. I hope I am wrong and this concern is addressed later, but I am pessimistic about it. It is obvious they are building the majority of the game off old updated software used in adult games made 5 years ago for free, usually by one person in their free time. Yes I give the creators credit for the few animated scenes they have made, they are acceptable. The main characters are slightly different from the generic crew/brothel workers, but made with same generic software. Like a few others have said, I truly hope my fears are wrong and the creators take pride in their work and put in a lot more content, and fix the broken parts. Only time will tell. I wouldn't recommend you buy this game at this time when you can find so many more better adult narrative driven games for free on the internet.

  I've been following this creator since his previous (now abandoned) game Euphorian Tide, and stopped playing after the debug menu became Patreon-exclusive. I bought it some time ago, and shortly refunded it when I noted that feature wasn't included for the Steam version. I find version-exclusive content to be particularly annoying, and I personally avoid Patreon due to their rather capricious enforcement of their own policies. So I decided to wait and see if said version-exclusive content would be brought to the Steam version. It's been a few months now, if I remember properly, and according to Discord it still looks like the debug menu (which previously was always available in the earlier builds and games from this developer, even in the free versions) will not come to this game's Steam version: neither before nor after launch. As much as I enjoyed this creator's games in the past, I don't feel gating features behind a Patreon subscription when a customer already bought it on Steam is justifiable. I opened a thread asking about this feature, but it might as well have been shadow banned as it has zero replies. Getting a refund and leaving a negative review now feels like the only way to make my complaints heard at this point. TL;DR: you might have to pay Patreon to get all of the features, and feedback got ignored completely. If you want to get this game, I'd suggest you wait until release and hope it will have the missing features implemented, or pay multiple times for the Patreon-exclusive build.

  I think the game is decent however there are a few things that irritate me. There are multiple instances where agency is taken from the main character with no way to respond organically. Case in point the Auriella conversation with Vin when she does something to ruin him. The game forces you to agree with her regardless, with no way to really throw her on her ass. You are forced to have her on your ship regardless. I would really prefer the game NOT try to tell me how I feel please. It's an infuriating quality of the game that's slowly getting on my tits. Please let players have more agency with who they want to have or not have as crew. This habit of the player being forced into things with little ability to say "no" is for the birds. And when you can say 'no' you are overridden in quite a few instances making your choice as a player mute. I want to like this game, I do, but if you are going to laud player choice as a feature, actually give us a choice instead of pretending to. And as a few have pointed out, give people a choice at the beginning of the game what to see. Corruptions of champions did this easily I don't see why this would be too hard.

  I'm pretty well considering this game "Abandonware" this this point. The Early Release write-up said "no more than a year" for the game to be completed. That was 33 months ago. The game received very few updates, which usually consist of minor balance and bug fixes. The rate of major patches charts out to a completion date that is still literal years away. There was a Chapter 5 beta release in May (over 4 months ago) that hasn't been promoted to the main branch yet. The primary developer has been stating that he's had some IRL stuff that have distracted him from working on the game. That, admittedly, sucks. But that doesn't mean it's OK to continue to take unsuspecting people's money for a promised game that, at this rate, will never be fully released. Don't buy the game until it's fully released. This is one of the prime examples of why Early Release is a gamble; you may get in early on a gem, or you may waste your money on a half-finished mess that never makes it out the door.

  If you like chicks with sticks(Ds), this will be the game for you. I, myself, just like regular male with female relationship for a main character romance type game. That's just my preference, and I will never knock anyone else's. I know this is in early access, but it's already grindy AF!!!!!!!! AS FFFFFFF!!!!! Holy FFFFF!!! Is it grindy. And to show for it I got 1 good m/f scene. 1 wasted m/f scene. 1 weird, but ok m/fem(creature) scene. And stumble across random encounter scenes that looked like great care went into creating them. Always turned out to be a chicks with sticks scene. I'm one who wanted to bang the big chested, dark skinned, girl with glasses. But after grinding away to make it there, all I get is a BJ between the big jugs. Why am I not banging this chick? I would be banging this chick. Just cuz she got huge melons, doesn't mean I'm not going to pound the puddy-tat. My ex had big guns. And I loved massaging and squeezing them, but her wetness was the prize! What a waste of a scene and grindiness to be disappointed. I mean I could fu-- the cream filling out of the cowgirl character with huge milkers, but not the human character? WHAT??? After that let down, I didn't even want to see if there was more to the story. I might one day come back to this game to see if I'll unlock more worthy scenes with her after another hideous grindfest. Overall you might be holding your banana too long waiting for fap scenes in this. I'd wait for a sale, because the artwork is very nicely done, also the idea of this game is nice. The devs seem to be trying to targeting everyone's fetish and not just a select few, which is pretty cool. So far this seems like a mainly chicks with sticks lovers game. I'm hoping once it gets more polished and more stuff added that I'll be able to revisit this and feel more satisfied that I bought it in the first place. I'll have to recommend, because it's that or not recommend. But It's a fine line with me and I'm hoping it gets better with time.

  Surprisingly a coomer game with actual gameplay. The role playing aspect was better than I was expecting. There's a good variety of content for different tastes, and the cast of characters is pretty good. The only negative thing that I've encountered is that the game can get fairly grindy, especially on the current beta. Overall, I'm excited for future content. If you're looking for a quick fap game, this isn't for you. But if you want a lewd game focused around gameplay like Evenicle or Sengoku Rance, then I recommend this game.
