GO ON AN ADVENTURE

Project: Gorgon is a 3D fantasy MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game) featuring an immersive experience that allows the player to forge their own path through exploration and discovery. We don't guide you through a world on rails, and as a result, there are many hidden secrets awaiting discovery. Project: Gorgon also features an ambitious skill-based leveling system that bucks the current trend of pre-determined classes, allowing the player to combine skills in order to create a truly unique playing experience.

DEEP DEMO!

Not sure if an exploration-centric MMO is for you? Try the free demo! (See link above.) The demo lets you explore a large part of the game and learn dozens of skills. Your demo character will be capped at level 15 in each skill you learn. When you purchase the game, you'll keep your demo character and all restrictions will be lifted.

AN IMMERSIVE WORLD

When you play Project: Gorgon, we want you to feel as if you’re immersed in a whole new virtual world. Rather than trying to manage this with just graphics and excessive backstory, we’ve designed the game with dozens of gameplay features that make you feel like you’re really there interacting with the world, such as:

  • Each non-player (NPC) you meet has their own goals and interest, and reward players that choose to be their friend.

  • Shopkeepers keep inventory, so you can buy items that other players have sold to them. Want to help out new players? Sell your cast-off items to the shopkeeper in the new player zone and watch the new players go to town.

  • If you are on fire, you can jump into a lake to put it out. This type of mechanic can have a subtle effect on your strategies, especially when you are fighting a fire mage!

  • You can inscribe messages onto items, write books, and even leave notes for other players. Make your name as an in-game poet, or pronounce your greatness to the world!

UNIQUE EXPERIENCES

In Project: Gorgon you kill monsters - a lot of them - and you take their loot. In order to keep the experience fun and interesting, we’ve developed unique combat experiences to keep the fights feeling fresh. The loot is randomly generated, monsters have unique abilities, and dungeons have puzzles, traps, and terrifying bosses! The combat skills are entirely free-form. You can learn as many combat skills as you want, and use any two of them at the same time to create your own personal “class.” Project: Gorgon features dozens to choose from, including:

  • Battle Chemistry: Create huge explosions, inject yourself with mysterious mutagens or program a pet golem!

  • Unarmed Combat: Grapple and control enemies using a situational-aware combo system that varies based on where you are and what day it is.

  • Animal Handling: Tame animals and train them to become ferocious fighters. Then breed your best and sell their offspring to other players.

  • Necromancy: Seek out corpses and graveyards to raise an undead army. No graveyard around? Well, there are always the corpses of your friends.

  • Cow: Got turned into a cow by that boss? That sucks. But learn some kicks and how to stampede, and you'll be right back out there kicking grass in no time!

  • That’s just a few! There’s also Sword Fighting, Combat Psychology, Staff Fighting, Sigil Scripting, Mentalism, and more.

Player Choices are important in Project: Gorgon. You can learn as many skills as you want, but sometimes power comes with downsides. You can become infected with lycanthropy and gain access to very powerful skill sets. As a lycanthrope, you are able to roam the world in a pack or as a lone wolf; however, when there is a full moon (which is tied to the real world lunar calendar) you are stuck in your beast form. There’s no cure for lycanthropy.

You can become a Druid - which will give you great power, but you have to vow to drop everything when there’s an emergency involving nature. It could be a forest fire, a monster invasion or even a pesky insect. Nature never lets you ignore your duties, ever.

New opportunists come open, but others will be closed. Can you bear heavy burdens in exchange for greater power?

JOIN THE COMMUNITY

The community is a critical aspect of Project: Gorgon. We strive to maintain a strong, engaged community, supporting our players through:

  • Live Events with a focus on story.

  • Mechanisms for player-created quest content.

  • Player housing (limited and instanced).

  • Player-managed shops and vendor stalls.

  • In-game communication tools like bulletin boards.

  • Bookshelves where you can write and submit your own books and stories (and players can vote on their favorites).

HELP DEFINE THE GAME

During our beta ("early access") period, your feedback helps improve the game, from small things like bug-reports to large things like new skill suggestions, monster ideas, and more! We've already used hundreds of player-provided suggestions during our alpha period, and we'll use even more suggestions during beta as we get into the down-and-dirty details of combat, crafting, and exploration.

Was fun for a good 200 hours. Went into a PvP zone. Killed someone who was fighting in the PvP zone. That person was a member of the admin team and got upset that he died, so my account was administratively punished. Seems kinda BS, so I put in a ticket in March. 2 months later and no response, so I stopped caring and stopped playing.

I've logged over 3,146 Hours in Project Gorgon since I've gotten this game almost 3 years ago and still haven't even touched everything. Pro's 1.) 20 Human Combat skills! (You can mix and match any two skills you like!) Essentially creating any kind of build in the game as long as your creative. All combat skills go to the current level cap which is 80. Although, you can earn bonus levels, which will add levels in addition to the level cap essentially making you go over level 80 in skills as long as you obtain the bonus levels which can be met from doing other skills. 2.) 43 trade skills. (There is no auction house in game, only player stores!) All trade skills can go up to 70 or 80 except for a few like alchemy which caps out at 50. 3.) You can be a pig, werewolf, giant bat, cow, rabbit, deer, spider, spirit fox and they all count as additional combat skills to the regular 20 human combat skills. They all can be leveled to 80 and even combined with the human combat skills to create dynamic combat builds. 4.) 47 additional Misc skills to do for fun such as playing instruments, writing books in the game about your journeys or even breeding animals. 5.) 10 massive zones with tons of things to do as well as two main player hubs with one that is built around a giant casino with events. 6.) A dynamic quest/favor system where every npc matters in the game because by doing "favors" for them or giving them "gifts" it unlocks special items, rewards and storage's to store items or sell items to. 7.) A strong community of gamers who care about the game, I never encountered one toxic player in my existence of the game in which I have over 3,146 hours I logged in my total playtime of Gorgon, which is saying something! 8.) Community events, there is always events going on in the game and moderators are always constantly doing things for players such as weekend poetry jams. 9.) Sense of Progression, The game has similarities of Wow Vanilla, AC, EverQuest and it's own uniqueness of Project Gorgon all combined into one. There is no instant gratification in this game. You have to work for what you want but the reward is very rewarding! 10.) Dungeons are non instanced and you actually have to gather real parties like you did back in the day to take on bosses. Bosses and Dungeons are also challenging the farther that you get within the game. 11.) Sense of Mystery and Exploration-Many Skills and Trade Skills are hidden and can only be unlocked from exploring, leveling other skills or defeating bosses. Therefore, Project Gorgon has a great sense of exploration. Cons -Graphics are very old and graphics look like they are from the early days of mmorpg's. -Movement can be slow and there is a lot of walking, except you can get Battle Chemistry Skill or Shield Skill for fast speed buffs or essentially learn Druid to shape shift into a bird to fly. -The game does not have huge emphasis on PVP. There is a portal to a PVP dungeon where players can fight against each other in the dungeon but other then that this game is primarily a PVE game. This game is one of the best games you could possibly play on Steam if you miss the old days of MMORPG's and hate the current style of WOW or are a fan of Wow Classic or Old School Runescape. This game is definitely a 10/10 game for the massive content and replay value it has and the community is super strong in this game and it continues to grow. I have actually taken breaks with the game for how addicting it is and Project Gorgon brings back those Ever Crack days. Buy this game and join a guild, it's most fun I have had in years!

https://youtu.be/h1TCNT8iC4A The game is still populated, and interesting. I just don't have the time that I used to -- and I've already had my fun with the game. It can be a bit overwhelming but the community is friendly, and if you take it slow and not rush it (like I tried to last week), then you'll enjoy it. If you haven't played it I still think it's a great buy. ---------------- It's a mix of Star Wars Galaxies and Runescape primarily is what I'm getting. The game doesn't hold your hand and isn't themepark, I've been craving a unique MMO and I'm gettin it. The good thing I've found is you're not insanely overwhelmed. Like on ESO there are tons of worlds and crap, and it was just too much. This game eases you into the zones, and you can't just run to the endgame spots. ------------- Update 1 | 20 hours in This game's awesome, and the community is too, they're super friendly and willing to help you out as a nooby. Just being in a dungeon (there's only one instance per dungeon so you will see players) and running across others they're willing to join up with you, unlike in other mmos, even small ones, people don't even bother responding, I've had nothing but fun so far. There's so much to do, I've just tamed a tiger, which took a while to level up but it's awesome, I've explored a lot more land today and checked out dungeons..was debating on becoming a pig and have decided against it. I'm not sure about being an unarmed fighter, fist fighting is cool but I want to be more of a tank, maybe I will try out staves? ------------- Update 2 | 40 hours in It's been 3 days? I've had people help me left and right, I've gotten a polar bear to fight with me, and someone gave me a flying potion which was freaking awesome. The combat is pretty satisfying and there's always people around that will help you out in the dungeons to get you gear or just help you level up. There was a poetry jam Saturday morning, I wrote a poem, people were dancing and playing music, others drinking. Cooking has been interesting, I'm tired of grinding in the dungeon so I've been out picking apples and butchering animals to make food, getting pretty good at it. Solid game, recommend you get it if you want an mmo that isn't full of botters, cheaters, or stupid themepark quests. ------------- Update 3 | 65 hours in Game is still solid, so much to do so much to work on. Goals are set..right now I am headin to a new dungeon (for me) and gonna get some new gear since I'm lvl ~45/45. You have two skills always active and I've neglected the gear since I've been doing a lot of cooking and working with the NPCs. They have a limited amount of money to buy your items so you give them gifts that they like specifically, random stuff you find whether as loot or on the ground in the world or even crafted. Yesterday I just did quests all day and killed pigs so I can cook lots of sausages. Grab the game, there's so much to do, make sure to pace yourself! I was helped...three or four times (?) yet again by other players today, it's a great community, if you're comin here expect a decent time and feel free to ask for help! ------------- Update 4 | 112 hours in Still lots to do, I've gotten stronger..training a new combat skill and looking into side skills. Gathering a lot, community is still great, I've finally run into money problems because when you get higher level you need to uncap the capped skill that you're training and that costs somethin, so not everyone is super good at everything which is nice, people tend to specialize. Of course you can get good at everything it'll just take a long long time. I've not hit max combat skill level which is good, too many games make it super easy and then you have to grind a whole lot more for side stuff. ------------- Update 5 | 131 hours in Alright it's been 3 weeks, I've put more time in than having a full time job..so I plan on slowing down, like consciously. There's just so much to work on, I've been fishing (fishing in this game is where you actually swim and go up to fish to catch them lol, they're stationary but it's still fun). I'm mastering the art of sushi, and plan on looking into the Hammer skill tree as a tank, since I've been leveling shield. Essentially I'm starting all over, combat skill wise. I haven't even got into being an actual animal but one day I plan on becoming a giant spider and checking out how all that works. I've joined a guild, they're really helpful and run events and take us out in dungeons getting good loot and exp, shoutout to Rowen Trading. Seriously buy the game, buy it on sale, buy it full price, the longer you wait the longer you'll regret putting time into some game that you're not really enjoying all to save $14. You won't get bored of this game for a long time. ------------- Update 6 | 150 hours in I AM BATMAN ------------- Update 7 | 187 hours in So I've become a giant bat, it's an actual form you can take and you're able to fly! I've gotten to level 50 of it, which is the first level cap in which you must pay your trainer to uncap. I recommend you take a look at all the beast forms eventually, but it's more of a challenge because many NPC's think you're a freak and don't wish to do business with you, in turn you have less options to vendor gear. The skills are fun, there's one that let's you duplicate yourself and you have a bunch of giant bats fighting with you if you get the right skill mods for them to boost that skill. Still too much to do, not getting bored at all, I recommend you pick up the game if you want a solid MMO, the community has doubled since I've bought it, it's really nice to see, and the administrators/vets have been helping the new players regularly, heck, I'm still being helped. ------------- Update 7 | 196 hours in Well I'm slowing down, I still have a lot to do in the game but to not burn out terribly I'm going to take a break, it's been maybe seven weeks at 196 hours, so just going to take a short break, if you have a hankering for an MMO this fixes it for sure, I've been so deseperate for a solid, new MMO and this was it. Grab the game full priced or on sale doesn't matter, you'll get your money out of it for sure, and they're regularly putting out updates so don't think this game isn't actually in development, I'm always worried about that with these early access games but not with this one. I used to love this game. It's quirky and interesting. The community is one of the friendliest and accepting of any I've encountered. Lovely people. I even bought into the early game 'Breeder Package' for $75, I'm all about supporting developers of good content. I've enjoyed my 1300+ hours playing Project Gorgon ... But The recent changes in xp, leveling, crafting and the very disconcerting unprofessional interaction and palpable hostility the developer and game mods exhibit toward their community have not only been a tremendous disappointment, but have me playing something else. Here's a surprising fact... I don't want to be bludgeoned over the head for voicing suggestions, nor do I want my game play options removed! Don't MAKE me play EXACTLY how YOU want to play, please. No Thank You. The versatility in game play styles was one of the most appealing parts of the game and it's being compromised! You can't develop a game in a vacuum and expect it to succeed. You can't ban players for voicing opinions politely, in public, even if you disagree with them and expect there to be no repercussions to your bottom line and player base. You can't ban people from your discord because they aren't sycophants and hope to keep your player community healthy. There's plenty of discussion over what's been happening, just google it, I'm not going to rehash it here. If you want to try the game, my advice is to read up on how the dev and the GMs treat their community. Super disappointed. Very unlikely that I'll be playing Project Gorgon any time soon, unless something miraculous happens.

2300 hours logged on this game. Recently, the devs decided to entirely change the way leveling works, and remove one of the key pieces of end game: high level crafting for a piece of gear that is marginally better than the rest. This gear cost millions of in game currency to craft a set, and was a huge grind. A huge grind that was important for building off-meta builds, and keeping the hamster wheel of content spinning. Well, it's gone. Crafting is now trivial for all gear, leveling is a HUGE chore, especially for high levels trying to spin up a new theory-crafted build, and instead of taking feedback of all of the quitting players, the head dev decided to go off on players in public chat in the game about it. Taunting them, even. All my high level friends have quit. End game dungeons are far too hard for average players to form up and do, and without the help of elite players who actually push to succeed, these parties and dungeons will fail. Game population is at 90 players on prime time saturday night. Significantly down from pre-patch. And instead of taking feedback, the devs just say "well, muh vision." "Muh vision" doesn't include nerfing terrible builds to the ground while making meta builds even more necessary (btw, the meta builds didn't take much hit from this nerf). One of the first weapons you start with in this game is a sword. It's also the worst weapon skill in the game. And now it's even more worse. Amazing.

**7/29/2019** Well Ladies and Gents, after a break from the game myself i've hit 1k hours LOL (internal "woohoo") yeah i know not super impressive but i thought a little update would be cool.. so let's see what I've got for you. Below i've added a few notes and added a few tweaks! Check them out!! Well I've since began work on a 2nd serious character and so far it's been a blast! Going thru multiple times has just given me a better idea of what I want to focus on and do at different stages of the progression! ~New Additions: I won't list them all but they've added some very cool things to PG. ~The Red Wing Casino: a gambling area/HUB Town that's very fun and useful! ~Lots of New Public Events: these are run by players and devs and happen all the time! As someone who's followed this game and played for a long time before Steam launch, I feel inclined to write a small review. I'm going to do a quick Pros/Cons list for everyone to kinda break it down. Granted some pros/cons are subjective which i respect. These are just my personal views. So let's get into it, we'll start with some Pros: Pros: ~Uses a "No Class" skill based system ~Great solo and group play (giant dungeons at higher levels) ~Lots of content to explore (7+ huge open zones, more to come) ~Many unique skills (with more coming) ~Crazy amount of Crafting (60+ skills alone) ~Guilds, lots of useful storage and buffs and such ~Amazing Community.. tons of helpful players/guilds and very friendly! ~Furries welcome (werewolf, deer, cow, pig, rabbit, bird, giant bat +more in future) ~Musical instruments! everyone crowds up and nearby players gain a buff ~Great devs! These guys and gals have worked on some other great games! Cons: ~Very unstable in some areas ~Graphics are not good yet ( currently 3:Good is the best setting) ~Crafting can get really confusing early on. (subjective) ~New players take ur time, some choices later on are PERMANENT meaning exactly that.. you can't get rid of them (currently) ex: Lycanthropy or Druid and now Priest. ~Combat can feel clunky or "old school" (some like this, i do) ~Very easy to sell important items/gear unless you save every set you make into a "Loadout" (this has improved A LOT) ~Animal forms can also be very hard to remove (needs a potion or help) ~Some Boss Curses are legit really terrifying.. and some are just useless lol (they've added new ones... holy $#!T!!! these are scary.. but cool..) Well those are all the Pros and Cons I could think of! Thank you to everyone who reads this and finds it helpful! So in conclusion nerds. I highly recommend trying this game out, if not now keep up with it and see what happens in the future! If done right this MMO could sweep over the globe! But that remains to be seen. So thank you everyone!

To all new players thinking of getting this game. Its 40 bucks. They now also have introduced a VIP system where you pay monthly for exp offline advantages and + inventory spaces. The games been in "insert whatever BETA title devs use now-a-days here" for YEARS! Its a 2 person team who thinks they have reached triple AAA workshop status so they charge like it too. The game has had bugs for years that haven't and wont be fixed ever. The population is never over 200 players. The new introduction to VIP will like other games slowly introduce more and more pay to win systems. This never fails and is the same for all games that go this route. If your new and on the fence for playing. Let me mention on more thing. They have been fear-mongering the playerbase with a WIPE since inception. So not only do you get to pay 40 bucks for the game, opt in for a pay-to-win monthly service BUT you also get to get your economy, favor with NPCs, and all your items WIPED. That is whenever they decided to release the game. HOW FUN IS THAT? Oh and if you still want to buy the game you know normally you press C to see character stats and information about your character? Well instead of baking this in the game normally you can now get all that information if you sign up to VIP. YEAH! you can get a spreadsheet of your characters info for only $11.99. LOOK and READ about what your buying people! DO NOT Support these practices and I urge you all to spread the news on this game. UPDATE: I created this review on May 23rd. I received the following day a perma ban. Apparently negative reviews like this will be banned instantly. Just another FYI for people who still want to consider the game. Buy at own risk. Any negative feedback = instant ban. UPDATE 2 > Responding to the Developer lies. He states the reason for my ban was "ban evasion". I want people to understand I have 220 hours played on this game on this MY ONLY ACCOUNT. If I was so called "ban evading" why didn't they ban be prior to the 220 hours played huh? Oh they banned me the day exactly after the negative review!!! Holy cow yep Developer sure correcting "some information". I hope new players continue to watch this review and learn and by the looks 231 people have found it helpful and I have saved them money and lead them to better games. Winner.

Before we start: I recommend playing the demo. This is an actual, legit demo where you can play basically the full game up to level 15 (soft level cap is 50, current hard cap is 70-80 depending on skill). You get three zones + their dungeons. You can't trade w/ players or buy player-sold items on vendors. You will get an easy 20-40 hours of content with the demo. You get access to all the skills you can get with a level 15 cap. Games I've played that this reminds me of: Everquest, Runescape, and Black Desert What disappoints me right now: - Really no PvP - the arena that's there isn't used. - There's no open world PvP, so when someone else rolls up on your farming spot, you have to figure out whether you're going to farm it together, give up the spot, or just try to beat them to mobs/nodes until they leave. - The graphics, obviously. - You can't side strafe in water. - Mouse looking in the capital city is painful. You will probably need to keyboard turn there. Why have I put in 260 hours in the last 3 weeks and want to keep playing more? + 260 hours in and I still haven't touched half of the skills in the game. If you're interested in games that give you character progression and open up more of the game the deeper you get, you will be lost in bliss here. You're interested in eating the most powerful combat meals? Figure out if you're going to be a normal cook with foraging/fishing/gardening (farming) > cooking. Or maybe you want to make cheese so you need to gather milk > learn textile crafting to make the cheese cloths > learn cheesemaking. Want XP buffs for combat? One easy way is to learn brewing. Want to learn ice magic? You need to learn the basics of fire magic first and then go on a quest before the ice magic trainer, who lives deep in the frozen mountains, will trust you enough to take you as her pupil. +The game isn't solved. People don't know the best builds. They don't know the best abilities. This really creates a neat environment where you get to do your own research and character building. +The music is pretty good. I normally play w/o music on all my games, but I don't know if they hired a professional musician to do the music here, but it's great. Especially when you are playing instruments with other people. +One character can do everything: you don't need alts. I hate doing alts. It's pretty easy to make alts for mules because of a shared, transfer storage chest, but you don't need to. As you faction with NPCs, they'll begin unlocking new shop options, storage, and training options. But one character can be a healer, tank, and dps, or any hybrid in between, you just swap between loadouts with your hotkeys that save your wearable equipment and skills. +Mobs actually have vulnerabilities, resistances, immunities, and the abilities you use matter. I sorely miss games where skeletons are vulnerable to crushing damage and resistant to piercing. Where using fire magic on a fire-born creature isn't going to work. You can dumb-dumb your way through combat, but people who take it to the next level are going to make their characters even stronger. It's also important to actually build resistances on your character. A party who goes through a fire dungeon w/o fire resistance will take 3 hours vs. the 45 minute run of a party who goes in well equipped. I don't know, it's been a long time since I've jumped in a game and enjoyed the fact that every thing I do is character progression. Even just farming pigs outside the capital city will give me combat experience, compassion xp (to become a priest - good healer), autopsy xp (to get higher chances of valuable meat/skins), meat for cooking or skins for tanning/leatherworking, and skulls and bones for necromancy. And that was just for killing 1 pig. Pretty neat game. You get over the graphics in about 5 minutes.

It breaks my heart to downvote this game, because I love it. Or rather, I love what it could be. But this game is a huge time investment, and that investment will never pay off. I've put nearly 1000 hours into this game over 4 years. There were times I was even having fun, but mostly it's just incredibly addicting, and I'm writing this review to tell you that this game is not worth getting addicted to. The game may be worth your money, but it's not worth your time. I've always had a bad feeling that the developers of the game have never really cared about their players, and after 4 years and 1000 hours, I have to say: it's abundantly clear. I should have realized earlier. The developers have always treated us at best like the hundreds or thousands of hours we invest in the game is entirely for the benefit of their testing, and at worst like we're a stupid annoyance getting in the way of them making their own little world for themselves. An MMO requires a huge time investment, which in turn requires trust. And you should absolutely not trust these developers. This game is great at capitalizing on the Fear of Missing Out. There are world events that you have to attend 3 separate times over two days to get *fantastic* rewards. Rewards that you can't get otherwise. Rewards worth weeks of standard play. If you can't rearrange your schedule to be available at the exact time the event starts (three times!), you miss out completely. If you lag out too much (and the game gets very laggy in these situations), you have to try to catch it an extra time, or your miss out completely. If you time it wrong (and the timing is somewhat unpredictable), you miss out completely. Even if you time it right, they sometime s just randomly change the schedule for no reason. Nearly *everyone* hates this event. It's absolutely awful. But it's so lucrative as to be nearly mandatory. Why do they keep it around? Because they think it's cute, and that's far more important than a balanced, fun game. That's one of the worst examples, but there's FOMO everywhere, and it's part of what feeds the addiction. Don't get addicted. It's not worth it. Another example is curses. If you wander into the wrong spot, you can get "cursed", which *permanently* gimps your character until you kill the boss that cursed you. Like, seriously, deeply gimps your character. Some of them are cute and flavorful; some of them make it impossible to fight anything effectively ever again. You have to beg for help to get un-cursed -- which works, because the community is awesome and helpful. But if you don’t like the idea of begging for help in global chat, then you should not play this game. Why do the developers keep in the most punitive , newbie-unfriendly mechanic in any MMO ever (aside from perma-death, I suppose)? Because they think it's cute. This game is so close to being great, and it sucks, because you'll keep playing. You'll think: that next area, that next level, that next dungeon that comes out -- it will be worth it. I'll be ready. I'll increase my Flower Arrangement skill so that I'm prepared. But it's not worth it. It won't matter. The developers will let you down. Over, and over, and over. It's *almost* a great game, but taking it to that next level requires that the developers actually care about making a balanced, fun, engaging game. That they care about you as a player. But they don't. Edit: I just played another few hours because I'm addicted and this was one of ~2 weekends per year where you can get more crafting experience in an hour than several days' worth of normal farming and crafting. Pure FOMO. I didn't really want to play, but I got a dopamine hit from getting my Brewing levels up so fast. In the end, I missed my last opportunity by an hour because my baby was crying. Screw me, I guess. Edit 2: Let's talk about game balance. There are 25 skills (classes, basically), and you use two of them at a time. After accounting for incompatibilities, there are 195 possible combinations of skills. This should be a huge, awesome space to explore interesting builds. But it's not, because there's only very few builds that are any good, and everyone else is doomed to suck. For trivial reasons, too. Reasons that would be incredibly easy to fix. But they don't. Of the 25 skills, 24 of them can move while using their main abilities, and 1 can't. Why? Screw you, that's why. Moving around during combat is important (and in some cases, involuntary). But if you're running with Bard: screw you. The rest of your group can use all their abilities while moving around, but you have to stay still or not use your signature ability. Many skills require a specific main-hand or off-hand item type. There is one best tanking build for main-hand (staff), and one best tanking build for off-hand (shield). That's OK, because it still allows for 29 different combinations that involve one of the two tanking skills. Threat generation is linked to damage, so there's a really cool tradeoff where you should have to pick a high-damaging skill to pair with your tanking skill in order to maintain threat. Except, and I think you know where this is going, they actually don't care about that cool tradeoff. The best tanking build is the combination of the two: staff/shield. If you try any of the other 28 builds, screw you. You're just bad. You spent hundreds of hours grinding up your levels and getting good gear, but you just plain suck compared to the obviously-best build. They could very easily fix this. Their mechanics support it perfectly. All they need to do is make staff and shield both produce so little damage that they can't maintain threat, and the double-dipped survivability is wasted. It's a 10-minute balance change: lower the damage of Staff. 10 minutes to make 28 builds interesting and viable, instead of literally only one. But they don't bother. They don't care.

Early Access (far from finished) MMO that now offers a QoL monthly subscription comparable in price to that of FFXIV, ESO, and WoW. Effectively now indie game or not with its current monetization model and price it is competing alongside those previously mentioned games while not being remotely in the same league. This game was already incredibly niche, now potential new players are going to look at the price for entry and compare and contrast it with the genre giants. This change effectively gated off an already niche game community, pushing away potential new players for the ability to further monetize the niche community. If you are looking for a new MMO I can safely say to skip this game, while it has an interesting skill system it was arguably already overpriced at its base box price, the inclusion of a monthly subscription while still being early access says more about the game than I ever could.
