  The hours I used to play this game as a young fresh gamer on my pre 2000s windows PC, this was and still is a great racing game, the best of the series in my opinion. Excellent graphics and very nice courses. I also enjoyed playing the game because of the nice music that sounds a bit like trance / goa. Megarace 2 is a classic cult game in which you can take out opponents armed with missiles, mines and other weapons during a race tournament. Although I had to do some searching to find the right control setup, Megarace 2 is just great on the steam deck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNOfdXKZ28g

  Megarace 2, I bought this game for nostalgia. It's a childhood game im happy to own. Only payed 3 euros to have my memories back, worth it for sure.

  UPDATE July 7 2019 I've been made aware of a "Compatibility tool to run DOS games on Steam through native Linux DOSBox" called "steam-dos". It can be found on https://www.github.com/dreamer/steam-dos . I pulled this tool from git and using it as the the steam play compatibility tool Megarace 2 runs without issue. Saving both settings and games works again! There is no keyboard support for controlling the vehicle in game but both mouse and joystick/gamepad work. To get around a missing launcher.exe error I copied "MegaRace 2.exe" to the same folder as the original and renamed the copy to "Launcher.exe". Linux users: in your MegaRace 2 folder (steamapps/common/MegaRace 2/) create a symbolic link to start.sh named Launcher.exe. This allows the game to launch through Steam. This also allows you to put time on the game through Steam, hitting that coveted 5 minute mark that makes creating a review possible. With that out of the way, the game itself is a nice touch of nostalgia but the port is absolutely terrible. I don't remember it being quite this difficult to install off the 2 CDs. The game won't launch at all without tweaking. Can't save the config settings. Can't save the game at all in fact. While I really like MegaRace 2, you unlock tracks by completing the previous ones. Since the game can't be saved, I end up running The Foundry track over and over until I'm sick of it. So I'm torn. I love the game but I hate the completely broken port. For $3 and a local install of DOSBOX it can be made to work so I will recommend it anyway.

  Poor quality control from the publishers and the executable doesn't link to the right place. Fortunately I manage to do this myself by copying and renaming megarace 2.exe to launcher.exe in the game folder but shouldn't have had to.

  WORKING CHEATS on Steam =) To use cheats in this version, go to \Steam\steamapps\common\MegaRace 2 and then find file name "dosboxmegarace2.conf" open it with ''notepad'' in that file go to very bottom, you will see line called megarace.exe type for example "megarace money speed.exe" (without "") to get 99,999 in-game dollars and make your car go faster. speed - makes whatever car you choose faster. money - gives you $99,999. map - shows a map of the track while racing. game - skip the intro. nolance - skip lance boyle. debug - press "O" at any time during the race to turn into a bomb. box and "TAB" to switch to other obstacles to race as.

  I hate to leave a negative review but this game is broken. Tibet is bugged, it sometimes freezes at the beginning of the race on black screen and the music playing in the background, and it is really painful when it happens on the last round after an hour of trying to beat the AI, which brings me to the next point. The AI isn't based on pure stats, it simply goes to impossible speeds at will, and apparently without a proper reason (it's called rubber band effect and it's usefull if done correctly), in this game it seems that the AI suddenly starts speeding up at the speed of light (even if it's already in front of you) and it is impossible to catch, even if you drive perfectly, which is unfair to the player, I'm not saying it's just a hard game, it's plain unfair, victory isn't based off player's abilty. What you would do is simply start over and over again until you get the lucky shot where the AI doesn't go crazy. Now given the fact that arriving 1st isn't always possible, one could very well be fine with a 3rd place and keep going (if you don't get bursted down with missiles in 2/3 laps that is), problem is that the game isn't balanced in how much you earn vs the cost of repairs, going forward getting low positions will leave you with no money to repair your car in later stages. As a positive note Lance Boyle remains the coolest guy of virtuality, sometimes I even ask myself if he is real. (reference for fans). And I would buy the game anytime only to see Linda, Sandra, Susan, Tania, Tiffany, Lucinda, what was her name again? Actually the intro speech itself is worth the price of the game.

  Played this game more than 13 years back so its fits right in the nostalgia game category for me. It's still the same. Tibet is hard. Will try to beat it with all my years of gaming experience this time cause I don't think I ever did. Wish me luck! 10/10 Edit: Tibet is still hard :#

  I remember buying some shovelware pack of games at Walmart as a kid and it happened to include MegaRace 1 and 2, and in all honestly they didn't belong in the collection. In fact I'd say they were the only non-shovelware games in the package. MegaRace 2 is an FMV-based racing game, meaning the tracks and environments are simply pre-rendered recordings that you race on. Unlike the first MegaRace, however, tracks actually have multiple paths to take as well as multiple camera angles. While you'd think this would turn out to be a mess, it isn't a total one. It's definitely janky but still works, and it only adds to the game's charm (as well as frustration) The plot involves the player being deemed the Enforcer, however unlike the first game where the goal is to destroy the vehicles of various gangs, MegaRace 2 is primarily a racing game with the additions of missiles and landmines. Similarly to that game however, the entire game takes place in virtual reality as it is broadcast on the channel VWBT. This is of course, where the factor that makes MegaRace stand out comes in. Lance Boyle (played by Christian Erickson of Heavy Rain and Hitman movie fame) is the quirky, sometimes insane, and strangely charming host of MegaRace. Generally more crazy compared to the first game (and somehow less crazy than how he acts in 3), he informs the player of each track's backstory as well as entertains the audience. His live-action cutscenes almost make this game worth buying alone. The gameplay involves the player racing a series of 3 races per track, with two in between sequences to repair your car, buy weapons and shields, as well as other cars. These parts introduce money management, which is crucial to your success in races. The controls are a bit slippery but work fine, however this means you may have some trouble controlling your car at first or avoiding walls. Enemy racers fire missiles, bump into you, and of course try to overtake you. There's also some obvious rubberbanding at times which can get sort of annoying, especially as the game goes onto the longer and more difficult tracks. Tracks are also littered with obstacles which are sometimes extremely hard to avoid due to the game's controls. Tracks also have shortcuts for the player to take, often times these are crucial to winning races. One underrated factor to this game is the soundtrack. There's a lot of great tracks in this game, just like MegaRace 1. The series undoubtably has criminally underrated soundtracks (including MegaRace 3 at times). I'm also happy to say the DOSBox config packaged with the game works great, and since this game is only $3 (sometimes 60 cents on sale), it's well worth the price. While MegaRace 2 isn't perfect, it's well worth its low asking price. For its underrated music, great FMV cutscenes and host, put together with slippery yet fun gameplay, I fully recommend this game to racing fans, classic game enthusiasts or FMV buffs.
