As a game designer and passionate tango dancer, I am pleased to offer my evaluation of El Tango de la Muerte. Without a doubt, this game is a must-have for anyone seeking an exceptional experience in both domains. In terms of design, it is my considered opinion that El Tango de la Muerte presents certain issues that detract from the seamless immersion in its storyline. These issues include unresponsive controls and challenges with the integration of rhythm in the gameplay. Throughout each chapter, El Tango de la Muerte introduces novel tiles or mechanics that augment the immersive quality of the gameplay without fundamentally altering the core mechanics. Nevertheless, while these additions enhance the experience overall, certain levels may prove challenging due to the need to continually shift focus as a result of these tiles or mechanics. Other than the new tiles and mechanics, El Tango de la Muerte features an easy mode that effectively prevents players from failing a level. While the game itself is generally straightforward, as a seasoned rhythm game enthusiast, I found one particular level to be quite vexing, and I am grateful that this feature was included. As an aficionado of tango, I am thoroughly delighted to have discovered El Tango de la Muerte. Playing this game was akin to being transported to a ballroom, where I was gliding across the floor with an elegant partner. While I am typically not overly concerned with narrative elements, I must confess that even I found myself fully engrossed in the storyline and eagerly anticipating its progression. In essence, El Tango de la Muerte is an absolute must-play for tango enthusiasts. However, even for those who may not have a particular fondness for the dance, the game's unique storytelling approach is guaranteed to evoke numerous moments of joy and delight. I thank you Hernán, for bringing this exceptional game to fruition!

Very competant, original rhythm game with the vibe of a telenovela. Look forward to future chapters (chapter 1 and 2 are available at launch of this early access) Level 1 Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46fsYrS_Xuc

I like the idea behind it, and the art style is interesting - a sort of mix between Monty Python and South Park - however, it looks to be a very short game, with not a lot of options to it...in fact, no options at all save for languages. Still, for what it is and what it looks like the full product will be, I'd say worth the price. I absolutely love this game. This is one of the better music rhythm games out there. The art style, the music, the gameplay, the story all come together to make for an extremely enjoyeable musical experience. Even if you're not that much into tango, the music here is amazing. You can feel the passion with each keyboard arrow click. Simple, but fun gameplay that increases your enjoyment/love of music. The only negative is the lack of content. I finished this game in 17 minutes. I don't think that's enough content for the current asking price. However, this is Early Access and the developer promises to add several more chapters. I can't wait to finish this story and to get more tango. Rating 7/10. Bravisimo! Queremos mas. (would be a 9/10 if adds more content and a lot more amazing Tango songs, maybe a few more gameplay elements)

It's been a while since my last review, but El Tango de la Muerte is absolutely fantastic and deserves some love. The central narrative hook of a pulpy 1920's noir soap opera set in Argentina was executed perfectly, with a lot of wonderfully cliched twists and pleasantly overblown emotional outbursts. It helps too that despite the short length and consequential thinness of the characters, there was still a lot of good character interplay packed into the game's six short chapters; it was enough to be compelling at the very least. The english translation could use a little work in places, but honestly I found that even those minor errors added their own charm, especially considering the latin soap opera angle. I also love the photograph-cutout-puppet artsyle. There's something utterly charming about the mixture of realistic images against drawn environments, animated with a pleasant snappiness. Furthering that is the fantastic soundtrack, which fits the artsyle and the mood of the story perfectly. Admittedly I've never been much for tango music in the past but the soundtrack has inspired me to maybe go seek some out. The crux of the experience though is the gameplay —something that if done poorly can ruin even the most inventive of rhythm games— but thankfully that's something El Tango de la Muerte absolutely nails. I'm not going to explain the mechanics in detail, but probably the best comparision would be to say it that adapts the mechanics of something like Elite Beat Agents and pairs it with the beat-step mechanic of Crypt of the Necrodancer. The game demands that you move with precision and impeccable timing, but is not so punishing that a single screw up will force you to repeat the song. This is especially important because the game never really tutorializes anything, it just throws mechanics at you and expects you to figure them out. That works here though because those mechanics are never so complex that you can't pick up the nuances of them quite quickly, and there's a lot of little touches here and there (like being able to step back onto squares you've just stepped on) that help compensate as the player learns how to adapt to each new wrench thrown into the works. It's the sort of basic but whip-smart gameplay design that I wish more devs used. Also worth noting is the impressive range of mechanics the game throws at you (with seemingly something new popping up in every song) and how well it ties those mechanics into the story. Oh, and this game is a dream to play on a mechanical keyboard, there's something beautifully tactile about clacking out those steps in beat with the music. ...I'm rambling now though. I'll wrap this up. The bottom line is that this game is fantastically made, incredibly well presented, and charming in all the best ways. Besides, it's only five bucks. El Tango de la Muerte is worth skipping a coffee or two, I promise you that.

What a unique and well crafted little gem. El Tango de la Muerte is bursting with freshness. The artstyle is beyond interesting and has just such an attention to detail. I almost feel like each scene is a little diorama with magazine cutouts. And then it comes to life! The setting and story would charm any lover of indie games. But that's not all. The music ranges from super old-school classic music to more beat heavy modern tunes. And it's fantastic. While everything comes together really nicely, if I had to nitpick - I'd say the actual rhythm based mechanic could use a bit more working out. Don't get me wrong - tangoing to the beat all over the level is remarkable. My issue is with the feedback you get from being 'on rhythm', or not. Also the score system is overly simple. I think this would be easy to fix and could put it more on par with more heavy rhythm based games. As is, this is more of a casual title. And that's fine, too. Pros: +The artstyle is too fresh +The music is fantastic and will have you tapping your foot along with it +The setting and story is oh-so unique; I love it +I'm a sucker for rhythm-based games Cons: -WIth how the rhythm mechanic is currently implemented, it feels a bit too simple -The scoring system is also a bit too simple What a neat experience. Had me smiling the whole time. I'll surely be keeping this dev on my radar.
