  Being a fan of Binding of Isaac, but not the biggest fan of the artstyle itself. I found myself loving Raksasi both for its style and gameplay. Despite getting trounced over and over again, I loved trying new combinations of weaponry and items as I keep balancing life and damage. Eventually ending up with some absurd combination because "why not" kept circling my head. Regret or happiness followed depending on how dumb I could make my choices (sometimes dumb even became fantastically stupid). Being a game that's not originally english, it keeps their translation pretty solid and understandable. While I don't normally have a problem with small mistakes, I'm happy to not remember any apparent ones. The story is there, it keeps the atmosphere dark and grim; setting the tone for how the story is and giving you a general feel for the "tiles", as well as themes to each boss. Which I absolutely adore, the enemies feel unique (and some very annoying), making you change your approach to each and every one of them rather than rush in and flail a giant mace around blindly. While I normally don't keep soundtracks very high in my games, the main menu theme still plays clearly in my head - it's simple, straightforward and sets the tone very well. I don't remember having any issues with the OST at all. The different characters make me really happy to unlock another one and try them out, even if I fail horrendously; the upgrade system makes it so that once you take a fancy to one or two character (Tindra and Kharoum ♥), you find yourself doing better and better with them thanks to the character-specific upgrades, making you able to utilise your starting weapons and prioritise item upgrades over swapping out for a better option. I actually really adore the style of Raksasi. It makes me feel all fuzzy inside being able to pull off getting to the end and sit there hyperventilating because I get way too panicked when I almost die and then have to scavenge the map for any form of resources I left before I even think of trying to attempt the last boss, only to screw up and then realise I picked up a revive two stages back and then feel renewed... and then fail again. While it's not fun to reach the end and then slip up at a critical moment, knowing that I can come back even stronger and with a higher chance of becoming more powerful the next attempt keeps me from feeling like I've had my hopes absolutely crushed. I'm also terrible with the whole numeral rating system so I'm just gonna leave it as this. I really like it, it's punishing but also rewards you even after you slip and fall; making the next run more comfortable. And I also love playing as a cute girl that would crush people's faces with huge melee weapons (or broadside cannons), so that's a huge plus from me.

  Easily one of the best Rogue Lite and Action games I've played. Raksasi has me coming back for more time and time again as I continue to get better at it and unlock more content! Best part about that is this developer really cares and they've been adding content in a consistency I rarely see. Save your AAA money and spend it here please and support real developers who work for their money to give you a solid experience. You can also find this on Playstation and Switch by the way but the Steam version is always going to be the most up to date. Very proud to have this in my collection and to continue playing and streaming it!

  You might come for the anime tits, but the gameplay loop is actually good. The game is honest, with mechanics available to both you and your enemies + bosses, you can deal with any threat with precision and timing. It has a great difficulty choice where you might want to start on Easy to improve your character\characters first before going harder. With some luck I beat 5 bosses on Normal in the first run, but after you kill more bosses and finish more loops, new different bosses start to appear and some of those can really kick your ass. Progression is somewhat similar to Dead Cells, besides that you need to upgrade each character individually as well. An enjoyable game and runs take around an hour to the end.

  This should really be a "thumbs sideways", but because the "cons" are fundamental issues with the game or deliberate design choices rather than innocent errors that can be fixed, it's getting rounded down. I want to be clear that I do NOT intend to refund the game, I think it is reasonably priced for the level of polish and content offered and my hours may well go up post-review if the good here can convince me to push through the frustration. There's plenty to like and get invested in, in this game. More than enough items, weapons, enemy types etc. to hold the interest of any rogue-lite fan. Content is not one of this game's issues. Neither is art direction, art quality, sound design, story or the overarching game design. These are all either fine or great. The biggest issues I have with the game are; Controls, controls (once more for effect) and combat design. I'll start with the latter; Combat in this game is designed to slow you down and annoy you. Everything in this game is supposed to be annoying, and the annoyances compound with varied enemy/trap types. This is quite clearly very deliberate. It's even more obnoxious here because of how unnecessary it is - the basic gameplay loop and combat mechanics are pretty fun, even if telegraphs are very short with incredibly deceptive pacing, they can still be learned and mastered. What cannot be learned and mastered however, is a dozen little "traps" (for want of a better word) that cover every single room from about an hour into the game onwards. These blend into the background and most often cause ridiculous status effects on the player when triggered. The status effects are massively overtuned from the player's perspective, and massively undertuned from enemy perspectives. Getting "stunned" in this game simply means death. Getting "confused" means several seconds of [i]immense[/i] frustration, followed by death. Stunning individual enemies however, has little impact on the game as you are only stunning one of a dozen entities. Other traps cover the screen in ridiculous bullet-hell attacks that massively compound all other annoyances. Imagine a circle of orbs emanating from every corner of the room that you must dodge, but you just walked over a flower masquerading as scenery and now you are "confused" and must dodge the waves of orbs [i]whilst all of your directional controls are inverted.[/i] The orbs alone are a good challenge but the traps and status effects push it over the top into frustration. It's not a matter of selected difficulty or number-tuning but rather elements of challenge that compound far too exponentially, frequently creating situations where you are forced to turtle in some corner of the room, spamming your way through your held items until enough things have died that you can actually get a visual understanding of what you're fighting against and start playing tactically again. I mentioned that mobs and bosses do have learnable attack patterns, but every so often you'll get a mob/boss of the same generic type that appears to have ascended to sentience and flips the tables on you. It's so jarring when it occurs that it genuinely feels like the game loaded the wrong AI script for the mob or something. Once again, like everything else, this serves to slow the game down and punishes you for relying on things you previously confirmed to yourself through trial and error - the antithesis of any rogue-lite or souls-like game... This brings me to my most major problem with the game, and a complaint that I'm sure is not shared by everyone. The controls in this game are, IMO, [i]atrocious.[/i] Why on earth the devs chose to go with a forced "lock-on" system instead of a free-aim twin-stick approach is just beyond me. The second stick [i]is[/i] there and it does what you think it would do, it's just that by default attack is on the X and Y buttons rather than the triggers and shoulders [b]so you have no way to aim and attack at the same time[/b] unless you deform your right hand into some weird monkey-claw. Rather than just map buttons the way every other game in the genre does, the devs get around this with a lock-on system. There are solutions to this within the game options, but let me finish telling you how monumentally bad and worthy of ridicule the lock-on is. Frequently refusing to target enemies that are close, randomly switching targets and flipping your character around just as you prepare to attack, the system is abysmal and most of all UNNECESSARY. They literally could have simply let you aim your attacks with the right stick and use RT and RB for your attacks, moving your spell-cast and item-use to the X and Y buttons, with the dodge roll on LT and move the teleport to the B button. All the seldom-used, out-of-combat type abilities are mapped to triggers and shoulders, whilst your spammable combat abilities are all mapped to X,Y,B. It's the most backwards, frankly insane control system I've ever seen in a game. I can't help but think that some half-wit half-way up the ladder [i]insisted[/i] to his design team that lock-on combat be at the forefront of the game despite it having no business being in a game like this. Lock-on mechanics were invented as a means to suppress the awful camera-AI of early 3D games, especially 3rd-person. This is a top-down arena-combat rogue-lite. The game clearly takes some combat inspiration from Dark Souls, but in this case it took it way too far. Dark Souls needs lock-on because the camera is drunk and stupid - especially indoors. In DS-R, lock-on is a terrible solution to a non-existent problem. So you [b]CAN[/b] go into Options and actually remap the buttons to, ya know, something that actually makes sense, and you can also cut the legs off the lock-on system (it will still automatically "lock-on" to any enemy you aim at with the right stick, but it will drop off if you let go of the stick). I found the game to be far more playable and intuitive when set up this way, even if it felt a little janky and "off" (attacking with the trigger [i]does[/i] make your attacks feel even more "floaty"). Regardless, I [b]HIGHLY[/b] recommend doing BOTH of these things WHEN YOU LAUNCH THE GAME FOR THE FIRST TIME, BEFORE YOU PLAY IT. I implore the devs to implement a tick-box shortcut in the options menu, where you can un-check the box labelled "weirdo mode" to re-map the controls and disable the lock-on in one fell swoop. I might be a little softer on DS-R if the genre weren't already crowded by games that, while less original in their presentation, perfected the tight and responsive control schemes that are emblematic of the genre - long before DS-R threw its hat into the ring. You may well have fun here, but it may well be less fun than with similar titles - and that's just a shame.

  I wanted to like this game. I really did. But I cannot, in good conscience, recommend it. TL;DR: It looks great, feels stiff to play and has mechanics that hate you just as much as you hate them. On the surface, it looks pretty swell! It's got a plethora of items, the dead cells system to unlock more, a bunch of weapons to pick from, a unique art style; it has it all! And when you get down to it, the items and the weapons? Not much of a problem with those. The problem I have is with everything else around it. The game is honestly fairly janky in gameplay. The animations are puppeteering 2d images, and, in itself, I wouldn't have a problem with this, but it plays so stiffly. The weapons have a light attack, a light hold, a "heavy" attack and a "heavy" charge. This sounds fine on paper, but there's no like... momentum to attacks. Everything moves so clumsily, like it's constrained in this very specific format (because it is). But again, I could deal with this, it wasn't the deal breaker. The deal breaker was the gameplay. Now, I had no issue with the progression at first, even if the difficulty curve gets a little steep in the end. In essence, I can say this is a skill issue on my part and I should just get good. However. Once you beat the game for the first time, they introduce this wonderful concept called "dangerous". Dangerous levels make enemies faster and stronger. Which would be a neat mechanic if it didn't turn everything into a hellish sponge . Dangerous levels on their own? Manageable, if not extremely hard. But dangerous bosses? It's honestly unfair. They are so tanky. It's not even funny. Did I miss a mechanic? Are those bosses supposed to be so nigh impossible that I get funnelled into a path avoiding them like the plague? And then you get curses. As a mechanic, I don't have a problem with these. Binding of Isaac does it, and it turns out fine. But. This game is heavily based around stamina. And when you have this awful curse of "seniority" that hacks your stamina regen in half, on a level where you can't avoid it (read as: the final level), you get a recipe for a fight which isn't going to be even a little bit fun. Now, I'm not amazing at video games. I can handle myself, I've finished dark souls, I have 200 hours in dead cells, I can do okay. But when the game gives you 5 revives per run by default and all of them get consumed on the last boss? Doesn't that feel... wrong? On normal difficulty? The rest of the run felt hard but fair, why am I getting trounced here? Point is, this game was doing great at keeping me, until its own mechanics did everything they could to alienate me. So, yes, I would've loved to be able to recommend this one. But honestly, it made me so mad at how unfair it was, that I can't. If you made it this far, I'm sorry I made you read my essay. But this game just left me... disappointed. And if I can avoid that happening to other people, this is for that.

  I have bought this game 3 days ago. I'm nearly 20 hours in. That should tell you everything. If you want more details, this is the best Roguelike I have ever played. And yes, I've played dead cells, enter the gungeons and rogue legacy. I can already tell you that I like this game more. The gameplay just feels so much better to me, combat is so fluid and every boss has one weapon they are obviously bad against while there are always boss or groups of enemies who can rekt you if you're not careful no matter how OP you think your weapons and relics are. I know some people don't like games with a top-down camera but personally I really do, it makes it much easier to see the whole battlefield. The graphics and artwork are also gorgeous although if you're a guy who saw the girls in the pictures for the game and who wanna buy this because you think it's an ecchi game don't. It's really not despite how questionable the game over screens are. Like with most roguelike, you find out about the story as you go. It's not the best story ever and there are some translation mistakes but it's good eneough that I read all of the scrolls I find which is already pretty good given how often I just skip every cutscenes in other games. This doesnt mean there aren't some issues mind you. For starters, while there's always gonna some power-ups, weapons and characters that are better then others in those types of games, in this game it gets kind of ridiculous. For starter, the mace and spear are garbage weapons making the two characters who start the game with those weapons almost unusable. Every other weapons have a parry/block or a range attack but those two weapons don't and, on top of it, the wooden handle of the weapons have no hitbox meaning that if an enemy gets too close to you you're unable to hit them. The relics also range from incredibly OP just by themselves, like the relic that make enemy take 4 times the damage they deal to you which is so good on bosses, just objectively good, only good with other relics that complement them or arguably do more harm then good. Problem is, they are all the same price in the shop and they all fall from chest randomly. Sometimes, the stages have curses on them or buff for the enemies. This is shown you in the stage select screen except you'd have no idea those symbols mean anything at first and even after you figure out what they are, you have no idea what the specific curses do. So you really almost need to look up a guide to know what they all mean just not to get screwed. And finally, the Yellow Immortal is incredibly annoying. It's not supposed to be a tough bosses lorewise (his scroll just calls him a coward) and most of his attacks really aren't a problem. But one of his attack (which also happens to be his only attack with guard break) can one-shot you no matter how much hp or armor you have. I genuinely feel like it's just a bug they never fixed cause sometimes it actually doesn't deal that much damage and all his other attacks aren't that strong either but I've seriously been one-shot by him so many times while full hp or close to it. When you fight him you basically just have to hope he doesn't use it too often.

  This is a very underappreciated game. There is hardly any discussion on its mechanics in forums. The game wiki is almost bare. One will need to figure out concepts on their own, which makes discoveries exciting. * There are 8 characters. They don't seem impressive at first, but with more experience one will appreciate the nuances in their individual design. * The characters are very cute and well animated. * There are 7 main weapon types. Each weapon type has different combos and unique properties. Weapons within a weapon type have interesting variations. * There are also some unique weapons with surprising mechanics. * Cutting weapons can cut through certain attacks while blunt weapons can knockdown. * Weapons have specific hitzones. For e.g. the handle of a hammer or the chain of a sickle doesn't count as a hit on you or the enemy. This makes positioning very rewarding. This game has a 90 degree top down view likely to facilitate this. * There are a lot of unique items. Some can even transform your character into creatures. * There is a lot of focus on bosses. There are more bosses than the number of levels. There are almost as many bosses as mobs. Some are extremely difficult and likely unbalanced. One may practice against any encountered boss. * Unlocking new weapons, bosses, characters, skills and items provides incentive to keep playing. * There is a stamina system. Dodges have iframes. * Some weapons can parry. The timing is quite hard to master. * There are 3 levels of difficulty. Plus one can add modifiers to make runs interesting. * There is a significant end game which allows one to add new properties to characters with charms unlocked by playing. These help tackle the highest difficulty. * Game loads super quickly and runs well.

  So far i love the game, it's a ton of fun and reminds me of Slay the Spire, except this is an action game. The rogue element and randomness is so fun! so far i didn't manage to beat boss 2 yet (3 hours into game), but i still grow stronger and will do it one day :) (i just did it now and it felt goooood! :3 (at the end of a chapter you have to spend your soul points you have collected, those makes you little stronger permanently for that character you play, even after a death) At first the controls was confusing to me but after some play time, i have gotten used to them and likes them now. (i play with mouse and keyboard) Also the characters are really amazing styled. Overall i really love the game and the concept and i think i will put alot of hours into it, i just want to play more of it already.

  Wow . A blend of souls like combat from a top down view mixed with some rogue elements a la binding of isaac . This game is absolutely awesome for an early access. Every warrior has thier own initinal weapon fighting style that changes how you approach enemies and also they each have a unique magic skill to help them along the way. You can find a blacksmith in the dungeon that can allow you to switch to new upgraded weapons(for a price) if you find him. You can find random items to boost your character during your run a la binding of isaac altought they are a bit more rare here. You have some permanent upgrades for each class that you can invest souls in so you have some sense of progression in between runs. Good atmosphere. Music is nice but i kinda felt like...Hmmm maybe slightly repetitive in style maybe? Graphics are suprisingly nice for a top down game. The combat feels really tight with mouse and keyboard, have not tryed controllers yet. Sincerly this was the most fun i had in a 2 hours gaming session lately. Highly recommend if you like souls games and roguelike games. This seems like a perfect blend. Update 10h in: Game just seems to get better as you play it. With the new items/classes/ and passive skills that you unlock as you play, it just gets better and better. Every class is so damn op in thier own way. Escpecially once you start unlocking some of thier passives . Just like Binding of isaac you sometime get that godly run where you get tons of items that works well together and it feels great. Also i take it back. Items are not more rare than in binding of isaac once you use the shop properly. i'm pretty sure i'll end up putting above 100h in this game . And it's only 10$ what a deal.
