  A proper Blast from the past! ive loved the creatures series of games for 20 years now. its so much fun to watch the Norns, Ettins and Grendels interact, and with downloadable player-made Agents(Objects + scripts) its a world of endless possibility if you enjoy Life Simulation games, then i can think of no better. i would highly recommend anyone to give this game a try and dont forget to grab the DLC to get the full experience!

  Creatures is why I pursued a degree in artificial intelligence and a career in software engineering. Without this game, my life would be dramatically different and dramatically poorer. This IS my childhood. The Creatures 1 world map mod (C12DS) works perfectly with this software; I was up and running within fifteen minutes and I've been running the game all night. Modern hardware can handle a lot more creatures -- my population's up to sixty right now -- without bogging down, so wolfing runs will be a lot more interesting and fruitful than they were in olden times. If you were a fan back in the day, this is a seamless way to get started up again without having to do a bunch of workarounds and patching. You just install and go. I highly recommend this release and hope this will revive interest in the ALife genre!

  I have played these games since Creatures 1. They are amazing little life simulators that have a surprising complex under the hood genomoe and biology. I highly recommend C3, as it's the only one that plays on modern devices. Thank you Steam (and GOG) for making this game available to play decades after release!

  I've been playing this game since 1996, and watching it grow alongside me has been both beautiful and heartwarming. My children grew up on this game, learning from me and friends in the close-knit community how to add mods and link worlds. It's been a part of my life since Creatures 1, and it's never been huge, but its community has always been welcoming. Now, seeing it have a more mainstream release in the current day, I can only hope that the community grows back into what it once was- A busy little hive of people sharing their genuine interests through the language of a game they all enjoy.

  Awesome game, easily the most in-depth virtual life simulation released to consumers. Deep wealth of things to do and a friendly community that has built a ton of mods and expansion content over the past 20 years. Highly recommended

  Played this game on what I am sure was a DOS pc .... back in the 1800s .... Its cute ... was cute ... still have to play more to remember wtf is going on ... I loved it back then and decided to get it and try it out again. Review might change ... if I remember XD

  I played the original when it first came out! Literally remember waiting to get Creatures 3 shipped to me in the days before tracking packages. I cannot tell you how many hours I spent playing it or how much joy it brought me. I am also excited to finally get to play with a lot of the breeds for free I never did back in the day. I can't believe how well it holds up as a game, it's also nice to understand things a bit more now that I'm not a kid. Love this game!

  If there was a hour counter for this back in early 00's I'd probably have 2k hours on it, at least. I've always said this game is one of the most insanely complex games way ahead of it's time. Last time I played it was like 2007... and now I'm back. It's sad all the online communities are dead though. I actually went out of my way to get to a computer with a floppy slot so I could get my old agents (mods) out lol I was a bit worried putting those ancient files in but well it still all works fine. If you have never tried DS/C3 I highly recommend at least checking out DS for free but if you have any sort of interest in simulation games it won't be a miss with C3 either. Just be warned, it's not as simple as it seems.

  Now for the review:

  This is a game where you take care of different kinds of creatures, also known as norns, ettins and grendels. They think and act for themselves, you can teach them a bunch of stuff, care for them, or experiment on them. The choice of what to do is yours, but you also have to make your own fun. Under the hood the game has quite complex mechanics, like biochemistry, DNA and other things, which you can monitor and influence with the included tools, or you can download community tools, which brings me to the community. The community is really nice and helpful, and over the lifespan of this game, they've created tons of custom content for the game, like new rooms, tools, toys, machines, new creature breeds and pretty much anything else you can think of. While this game probably is not for everyone, it's forever in my heart.
