  Yes, I reviewed a game with a voluptuously bosomed nun seriously. The joke is that it’s not a joke. NOTE: I bought the full, unadulterated game on DLSite before it had its final update and before it released on Steam. I bought the Lite Version on Steam to show support and write a review for because I like the game that much. This review pertains mostly to the full version of the game and not the Lite Version. SiNiSister follows its titular character, Rabiane, a nun journeying to the city of Kessaria where monsters run rampant. Armed with her two weapons, a bow and sword, Rabiane is tasked with locating and destroying the source of the creatures that plague Kessaria. [b][i]She also has a huge chest. [/i][/b] The game plays like Castlevania and Momodora: RUtM, but a lot simpler, while also having similar settings and aesthetics. You can move, jump, and crouch; You can attack enemies that try to *ahem* [i]do stuff to you[/i] from close range with your sword, or you can shoot (limited, but refreshable) arrows at them with your bow at a distance. The game isn’t terribly difficult; nothing rage-inducing. Save for deaths by trial-and-error or the occasional misstep, if you play the game normally, you shouldn’t die too often. Of course, if you’re having trouble, you can change the difficulty between stages (and the difficulty you’re on is reflected in the color of your sword, which is pretty neat). The game isn’t very long either. Again, if you play normally, you’ll probably beat everything, along with the postgame, in about an hour, maybe faster if you know what to expect. It’s a bit of a shame because there isn’t a lot of “normal” replay value after you’ve beaten the game. Considering how niche this game is, it probably attracted the attention of your eyes for [b]TWO BIG REASONS[/b]. Reason #1: The pixel art is disturbingly beautiful. Why “disturbingly,” though?  Reason #2:[b] [spoiler]RABIANE IS STACKED [/spoiler] [/b] [spoiler]…On the number of ways she can “game over.”[/spoiler] There are plenty of context-sensitive game over screens and animations that are triggered depending on where Rabiane fell and what enemy or environmental hazard she fell to. [spoiler]A lot of them aren’t pretty.[/spoiler] In a twisted and morbid way, that’s where the “disturbing beauty” of the game lies in. The developers of the game actually took the time to illustrate, animate, and implement all the various ways you can get a game over with poor Rabiane [spoiler](and if you beat the R-18 version of the game, you’ll learn that they did each one a second time, with Rabiane in a different outfit)[/spoiler] which exudes the time, effort, and passion they put into this small game. It makes the me WANT to see every single variation and how beautifully they were crafted in pixel art, purposely sending Rabiane to a terrible fate in doing so. At the same time, it elicits guilty feelings within me because I [i]DON’T WANT [/i]to see poor Rabiane meet an end by… well… pick from the list. Imagine, feeling sympathy for a fictional, 2D character – one from a “guro/ryona” game, no less. But perhaps it was intended within the game’s themes of “masochistic tendencies, yearning for death, and despair at being attacked by terrifying beings.” In conclusion, I genuinely love this game, but it’s definitely not for everyone. I’ll admit, guro and ryona are not genres I subscribe to, so perhaps a lot of this comes off as praising the game, “eyes sparkling.” But I was genuinely and absolutely bewitched by the bipolarity of the beautifully crafted pixel art and its grotesque and disturbing subject matter. And definitely not because of any other "two big reasons," I promise. [h1]TL;DR [/h1] Try it if it interests you, but you should know what you're getting into. Being graphic and grotesque is one of this game's selling points. You can actually download a demo of the game on DLSite if you want to try it out. [h1]Good:[/h1] • Rabiane is STACKED [spoiler]On the number of ways she can “game over.”[/spoiler] • Beautiful pixel art and “animations.” Good atmosphere. • Lots of “game over” variations • Rabiane’s VA, Haru Amachi did a good job. Headphones are a [i]suggestion[/i]. • Gameplay is simple. Difficulty is just right. [h1]Gripes(?)/Eh’s:[/h1] • (Eh) There’s no text that conveys the story in any way. Makes it kind of hard to figure out what happened and why. I think the one of the developers actually talked about the overall story, enemy stories, etc. during development of the game on their Ci-en page. There's also something about a homage to Bloodborne. Unfortunately it's all in Japanese, but if you can read it, it's quite interesting. • (Eh) The soundtrack is small. Most of the game is atmospheric silence (which isn’t a bad thing) save for boss fights and a few levels. I wouldn't say they're bangers, but I do think the music (or lack thereof) helps set the atmosphere. I like the piano tracks, though. • (Very Minor Gripe) Occasionally Rabiane will make a sound when swinging her sword. It kind of sounds like she’s getting hit when fighting enemies, making it a little confusing. [h1]Lite Version[/h1] Also for your convenience, here’s a list of things in that are not in the Lite Version of the game. You get these if you buy the R18 DLC or the full game, both on DLSite, and you beat the game. • All the explicit content cut from the Lite Version of the game. That includes a good amount of game over animation sequences and their associated portrait sprites. • A “Gallery” of sorts where you can see said explicit content. Note: [spoiler]This renders the replay value in seeing every game over screen variation void.[/spoiler] • Two New Stages [spoiler]Animal Farm and Laboratory (I recommend doing them in that order.)[/spoiler] • Spoiler? [spoiler]An Alternate Costume for Rabiane[/spoiler] P.S. If you liked SiNiSistar, the creators of the game are developing a new title with similar themes and aesthetics, busty nun and all. Edit: As the top comment pointed out, yes, I did not use titular properly. But honestly, i just wanted an excuse to make a joke about her chest.

  For the price you are paying I think this game is good as it is, BUT! I can't really recommend this game without the patch, the patch is the most important thing about the game and it basically locks away what is the main draw of the game. If you want to play a short game with some dark ambience and very nice pixel art you can play it like normal, but it geniunly is not the same experience without the patch, in it's lite state it is very bare bones when it comes to art, and that might sound a little weird but the portrait at the side of the main character is there for a reason, if you are smart you might have figured what it is for and what genre of game this was supposed to be, you can't even see the death animation gallery with this version either, and to top it off, the patched version has 2 additional levels, so, don't get it from here unless you already have purchased the patch and it just so happens that it comes out cheaper buying it on steam do to the regional prices than on Dlsite completelly.

  Note: this review is regarding the original DLSite version, which is the one I encourage people to play This game has one huge thing going for it, and that is its ambientation. While it's not the most-hardcore thing to be found, it doesn't pull its punches on its dark themes, in a very unrestricted way, that gives it a distinct flavour that many games, especially within the genre, fail to achieve. And yes, tiddies. Tiddies good. But from a critic perspective, the game IS good. The mechanics are simple but solid, the levels are serviceable, the music and art are very nice, the interactions are diverse and the game is full of little, unimportant unexpected shifts of what you expect the game to be like that nonetheless keep it interesting. It's one of those games where my only complain is that there isn't more of it. The fact that so many reviews are not just "boobs", and instead are people trying to push forth the quality of the experience should be enough of an indicator that, despite how short it is, it's worth it.
