Close Combat: The Bloody First विशेषताएं

“No Mission Too Difficult. No Sacrifice Too Great. Duty First!”

Close Combat: The Bloody First is the latest release in the critically-acclaimed Close Combat series, and the first using the new 3D Archon engine. With this Close Combat: The Bloody First combines classic Close Combat tactical gameplay with battles fought across a wide variety of diverse 3D landscapes including craggy ridgelines, narrow valleys and dense villages. The switch to 3D also allows an increase in the level of detail (e.g. the specific types of ammunition used by each weapon are now modelled) with more realistic movement and projectile physics.

Following the career of the famed US 1stInfantry Division (forever known as 'The Big Red One') Close Combat: The Bloody First visits the battlefields of Tunisia and Sicily for the first time, as well as covering the Normandy campaign.

With 3 theatres to cover Close Combat: The Bloody First places the focus firmly on the tactical level putting you in command of a 1st Infantry Division company (sometimes reinforced … and sometimes not!), leading your men through a series of linked operations and battles from Longstop Hill in Tunisia to Mortain in Normandy. You'll have to look after your men, work out the best combination of fire and movement, know when they need bolstering with armoured vehicles and decide when to call in support from artillery and aircraft.

You will command your squads in a variety of close combat situations and will have to learn how best to combine the use of small arms, mortars, machine guns, armoured cars, tanks and anti-tank guns in order to achieve victory.

You must learn the art of attack and defence in battles such as Hill 350 and Kasserine Pass in Tunisia, Gela and Troina in Sicily, and Caumont and Marigny in Normandy.

As you fight your way into and then across Europe from November 1942 to August 1944 you must overcome a wide range of diverse tactical challenges, such as commanding inexperienced troops being attacked by veteran panzers in North Africa, having to capture the bitterly defended town of Troina in the Sicilian mountains and of course storming across the sands of Omaha and into the 'hedgerow hell' of Normandy

The Settings

Tunisia – 5 Operations with 14 battles covering Longstop Hill, Sbiba, Kasserine Pass, El Guettar, Mateur

Sicily – 3 Operations with 11 battles covering Gela, Nicosia and Troina

Normandy – 3 Operations with 11 battles covering Omaha Beach, The Bocage and Operation Cobra

Features

  • 1 Grand Campaign, 3 Theatre Campaigns (Tunisia, Sicily and Normandy), 11 Operations and 36 battles

  • Completely revised 3D that brings a whole new look and feel to the classic Close Combat gameplay. The new 3D engine allows an increased level of detail (down to the specific types of ammunition used by each weapon) and more realistic movement and projectile physics.

  • 32 completely new battlefield maps covering the rugged terrain of Tunisia (14 maps), the mountains and valleys of Sicily (11 maps) and the beaches and bocage of Normandy (11 maps)

  • For the first time, the armed forces of Italy appear in an official release

  • Over 50 different vehicles, 300+ infantry and heavy weapon teams and over 100+ weapons and including for the first time US equipment from 1942-43.

  • All new graphics and effects

  • New sound effects

  • New terrain types to cover the jagged ridges of Tunisia and the rough, broken battlefields of Sicily

  • Historic organizations covering the US 1st Infantry Division and its German and Italian opponents

  • Integrated multi-player lobby and match-making forums.

I have been a CC fan since number 2, and I can see SO much promise with this series going forward. With enough updates and opening of the Steam Workshop, this game can be great. But, and it breaks my heart to say this, considering how long this game has had for development there really is no excuse for how many issues it currently has, and for some seriously questionable design choices. The biggest one is the graphics, 2D CC was abstract enough that your imagination can fill in the gaps to make it exciting, but this 3D engine lacks so much detail that it actually looks worse than the old CC games. These graphics are straight up terrible, there is no way around this point, even a tiny bit more detail would have made the world of difference. But even that is excusable if it was a solid successor to CC, but it feels like a step backwards, the UI is a bizarre info-less mess, with no tool-tips! The AI is all over the place between solid and broken, and for some reason, the awesome strategic campaign that made CC5 SO good, is gone. And finally, to show how much I really want to like this game, if it had been cheaper I would STILL have given it a thumbs up. But it just doesn't justify it's price. I'm going to keep playing and I REALLY hope it gets updated and turned around, but right now? I can't recommend.

Game should be renamed to "Close to highway robbery: The Bloody Ripoff!" I am an old close combat fan with endless hours. My friend and I purchased this game to play the co-op grand campaign. The problem despite the graphics being poor, is the game play is buggy. The grand campaign will not save the multiplayer co-op battle to advance to the next level. Game was NO WAY ready for release with a hefty $39.99 price tag.

Do I recommend this game? Yes, If your looking for a classic close combat game. However, I still have to bring up the fact that this game still feels pretty bare bones. After playing through the entire campaign with the US, I tried to play a campaign as the Germans. And, well, I know its a game about the American division and the fighting it encountered, but if you're going to include the ability to play a German Campaign then you should be at least pretending that the same unit was fighting the whole time. As it stands, if you play the german campaign you are basically just fighting the US army with whatever german unit was in the Scenario. So any feeling on continuity is completely lost. Also, speaking of continuity. In your platoon management screen why don't you enable the player to choose who is promoted and give us the ability to award certain men. I've had some medal of honor type charges and last man surviving holding actions where my guys are not rewarded at all nor are they promoted to squad leader? They remain privates as some random sergeant is brought in. Why not organize each squad into SLOTS, which THE PLAYER fills with replacements or manual promotions if they want to. If they don't want to just put a button there to Auto fill with replacements. I had a guy who stuck with my from North Africa all the way to France who was never promoted and had all kinds of kills, then some replacement sergeant comes in and takes over his squad even though he has little to no leadership. All i am asking for his more control over my squads, and more innovations to the mulitplayer side of things so you can enjoy this game with friends. (Dynamic Campaign COOP anyone?)

Avoid, at least for now. - Unfinished game, no attack move, no fallback order, units difficult to control as there is no unselect key leading to - incorrect / unwanted orders and force you to pause often to check what is going on - Tanks / AT Guns unloading if they loose LoS temporarily - Tanks / AT Guns not firing for so called too steep - No feedback on gun fire (miss ? hit but failed to damage ?) - HQ doesn't seems to help much and can't rally crap, ayway, there is no information on it or how to oper it - Mortar refusing to aim at open top armored vehicles because "armor too thick" - The sneak move is so slow is is absolutely unusable - For some reason you can't move to a specific point from time to time, but if you come back on the same unit, the move is suddenly possible - For some other inexplicable reason, smoke orders are not executed here and there - Firing from inside a building doesn't work here and there - Very confused, you have no idea who is firing on who - Enemy icon outline change color (yellow / orange) but you don't know what it means - You have no information whatsover on the kind of air support you have (straf ? Bomb ? specific AT ?) - Good luck figuring ammo levels - AI makes weird inneficient deployments and is quite dumb on attack (since it has no attack mode, it will keep moving past enemy - Overall, you don't know precisely what you can do and can't and for what reason and what are you chances of success Overprice, certainly not what you would expect from a new Close Combat series using 3D Edit: I shouldn't have tried so long to check this game, refund was refused because of that.

Unfortunately, you'll get more content and better gameplay with less bugs by just playing the older Close Combat titles. It seems very unfinished. The gameplay was almost what I had hoped for, but the poor animations and general lack of detail across the board kills it. The game looks terrible, and it's really a shame. I would probably pay 10 dollars for this title, but 40 is an insane ask for the state that it is in.

I really wanted to like this game, i may in the future if the game breaking issues are fixed but for now I would Stay away from this game. I ignored the fact that the graphics look terrible for 2019-2020 thinking i was going to get the classic feel of cc with the detailed platoon and company creation and in depth map navigation giving it a realistic feel during combat and in some cases they did do well with keeping those aspects in the game but the game itself is so bugged and poorly optimized that its design ruins almost all of my game attempts, i was able to complete the grand campaign with few bugs that caused me to restart the game but when going back through and playing the Italian campaign and again on the African campaign I ran into such terrible problems that I felt I had to say something, for one the AI is terrible, LOS fails to spot enemy literally 3 feet away, troops fail to load or fire at all when given fire orders, or will just wander out into the open and get shot, or fail to find cover when ordered to do so, troops will run up to enemy tanks when they get close and throw grenades at point blank range killing themselves without orders. The bazookas, mortars, all artillery, and air support accuracy is a complete joke and honestly feels like a complete roll of the dice when using them. Enemy tanks can glitch into each other creating impervious bunkers that your troops just fail to comprehend when it happens and kills almost anyone who gets near them, HQ teams do not feel like they give any kind of bonus, vehicles and troops navigate terrain terribly and cause you to click on multiple locations before they stop saying, "no clear path". Some missions would end with me taking all objectives and breaking enemy morale and even though that should progress you to the next mission I ended up being forced to repeat them. Also, after experiencing these issues, if you choose to quit a game you will be greeted by chicken sounds, I guess the devs thought that would be funny but with the experiences I had with this game that little addition just makes me dislike this unfinished product even more. This game was never worth 40 bucks, it feels like an upgraded version of sudden strike 3 and i cant even remember how old that game is... I would say $20 is even too much for this game in its current state, that said, i still hope the devs stick with it and fix its issues because it is a game that has great potential but as a consumer I just dont advise others to buy this game right now but would say to check back some time later. update: May 2020. Some issues have been fixed such as the vehicles glitching into each other and navigating terrain has improved. However, the game is still ruined by its AI, Infantry in general cannot comprehend buildings both when defending and assaulting,(Likewise in the hedgerows), Units glitch through walls, troops fail to engage enemy units right in front of them in the same room, fail to set up in windows or behind fences properly causing them to lose LOS. Troops still run up to enemy armor when it gets close and commit suicide with grenades. Bazooka teams cant hit anything almost about 99 percent of the time, mortars and artillery will reload a shell every time they lose and regain sight of enemy units when they should just have the one ready to go. The Bonus Artillery, Mortars, and Airstrikes still barely do any damage even if its a direct hit. Knocked out vehicles will glitch out leaving nothing but their shadows on the map. And worst of all, the stupid chicken noises are still there to annoy you if you choose to leave a game session. Still a thumbs down from me.

Have you ever wanted a REALLY slow paced war game? Me neither. The "Close Combat" franchise is near and dear to my heart. I remember being blown away playing the original when I was 17. As an aspiring combat leader and soon to be soldier, the game was ground breaking. The idea at the time that there was an AI determining the mood and abilities of your men in real time was very novel. You mean that my soldiers were actually going to freak out and run away if I had them run straight into an MG-42? I learned to hate the ripping canvas sound that weapon made. It was also a fascinating primer into WWII technology and its basic tactical history. What we now take for granted in games across the spectrum had to be re-learned in the mid-1990's. M-4 Shermans were largely junk and best used as fire support. Bazookas kill light armored vehicles and that's about it. In time, I played and re-played, and played again, the original, "A Bridge Too Far", and the "Battle of the Bulge" (I never really got into "The Russian Front"). Additional games brought better graphics and features to make the game more immersive and comprehensive as combined arms combat (air strikes and artillery). There was even a Panama based mod for "A Bridge Too Far" that I loved. After the "Battle of the Bulge", I stopped paying attention and figured that was it for the franchise. I was intrigued that the "Bloody First" was bringing it back. In spite of the largely negative reviews, I gave it a shot. I am thoroughly disappointed. The maps are gorgeous, but the soldiers and vehicles are mediocre, at best. The game play is awkward (perhaps it always was, but it is more pronounced after over 20 years of game development). What is most disappointing is the movement and mechanics of the units. When ordered to run, they move like pond water; that is slightly faster than when ordered to crawl. I feel like I could order the units to move, and go run errands for an afternoon, and the game would be little changed. This isn't praise for the AI, and it's an exaggeration, but the soldiers move so slow that it is boring watching them barely move under any circumstances. The path-finding is decent, but like the original games, the units tend to have the odd man or two in the squad who decide to find cover on the WRONG side of a wall/rock/etc. You know they are going to get wounded/killed, and they do, but it's not worth fine tuning every movement in a battle to save them. It also seems that this version did away with the construction of fighting positions when ordered to defend at the outset of the game. I believe it was "The Battle of the Bulge" that did that and it was a hugely important feature. And, again, the individual soldiers are little better than their 1999 counterparts. When they are lying incapacitated on the battlefield, they look like stick figures superimposed on a beautiful background. It also seems as though that background doesn't change. The buildings don't seem to take damage. Lastly, and this was a frustration with the originals, is the lack of manpower. You have a rifle company plus support, but you can only commit a platoon(+) at a time. Some of the maps are platoon sized objectives, and this is appropriate. But for others, the force you can commit is absurd in comparison to the objectives. The Normandy landing map is a good example. You get a little more than a platoon to assault an area that probably required multiple regiments to attack in reality. All you can do is commit your whole force to a single objective and pretend as though none of the rest of the map exists, except for the MG-42's and field gun emplacements firing on you from the other side of the screen. In spite of all this, the game remains true to the challenge of the original franchise. Fire and maneuver win the day. The game can remain engaging if you're willing to be patient with the awful movement mechanics and dismal soldier graphics. Just like the originals, it can be rewarding to root for a few of your men who manage to rack up achievements during the course of a campaign. But this is not a worthy successor to the "Close Combat" franchise by a long shot. I paid full price. That was a mistake.

Well, where to start? 20 OCT 2019: -maximum map zoom speed is frustratingly slow -maximum map scroll speed is even more frustratingly slow. -there is no retreat possibility, which in other games made you able to choose the battleground and the positions. -there is no button to deselect a unit, so you mistakingly put a lot of orders -when you have issued an order to a unit, it is in no way visible and you have to hope you gave the orders to the right unit - when you select an order to give a unit (f.e. sneak), and do not give it, but instead select another unit, that order is still "on" (and because there is no deselect or cancel, you still probably issue more orders to wrong units. -When you click a unit that is hiding or defending, despite cliking on the square unit icon on top of the unit, you will probably hit the blue/green hide/defend bar instead. -there is no clear indicator that which unit is selected, neither on the men or the unit icon in the roster. -if you click or hold a mouse on top of a man on the map it will not indicate which man it is on the map. -if you click a unit from the top left roster from the battle, it will not indicate which unit you have selected with a color, all look the same. -likewise if you click a unit from the top left roster during a battle, it will not take you to the unit in map zoom -drag and dropping to box select a group of units on the map for a control group often fails. -trying to hold shift to select multiple units from the roster does not work, there is no such function. -is having your two mortars in a same control group not possible in this game? -there is no clear indicator on the status of the units or how they are doing or WHAT they are doing, as nothing is shown on the map, and the top left roster has only same colored text on the map, and nothing zooms anywhere, no matter what you click. -map colours are really bleak -pictures are very teenagey-propagandish for the open-helmet-tobacco-lipped-allies-fanboys. -if you have armor on the map, there will be a constant engine sound, like right now when I am writing this review, it is very monotone. -there is no option to have the German troop structures in English, nor what they say. -the Americans are made to sound very manly, but the Germans very screamy. -lack of options FAR HAVE THE MIGHTY FALLEN. It is clear that the makers of this game have no love for Close Combat. Still I am glad they tried something new, this engine could, with a lot of tweaks, replace the old CC engine. Still as such I do not recommend this game as playable at all. At least not for any CC fans. Like for so many, my favorite game of the "series" is CC2:ABTF, due to the brilliant (and the only strategic) campaign and clear controls. When Matrix bought the franchise it was soon clear to me that they didn't love the game, nor the players. The games were mostly re-skins and map-making, that they did; made maps. But maps alone do not make playable games.

How are you going to be releasing the same game for 25 years and make it worse?

This game is not worth the steep price tag in its current state. The Dev team did limited beta testing, if any - truly disappointing in 2019... A few of the obvious bugs I've noticed: 1. Game crashes on save, repeatedly and the save files get corrupted. 2. Unit selection and movement is problematic (half the time you click and drag the units posture changes and its just poorly done) 3. Very poor unit AI. My guys will just flat out not shoot half the time. 4. Unit spinning 5. Get "MAJOR VICTORY!" and then feedback saying that my units were pushed back and I lost objectives, despite me actually winning? 6. Very poor flow of game/mission/strategy logic. Thats not the right way to word this but basically I was playing as Axis and then had to make a command decision? To... Defend? Against the Axis? Defend against myself? What? 7. Unit portraits bug out half the time... So, $40 and all of this ive found in one day. Its almost as if they just flat out did not test this game. Shame on the devs. Shame on the leadership behind this company. Shame on all parties involved who are ripping off the consumer.
