  Quick first impressions as someone with a love for the translate-'em-up genre (Is that a genre? It's got like two entries, this and Heaven's Vault), is that this is a goodun. Lovely art style (see screenshots/videos, I suppose), fun linguistic deciphering, and a bit of puzzling. Update after finishing the game. At ~8-ish hours it's ever so slightly on the short side, but I'd still say it's worth full price. You might disagree, that's what discounts are for. It's a lovely game that can survive on its own merits and is substantially different from the other translate-'em-up on the market. But let's compare them for a moment anyway, because there's not much else to compare it to. Heaven's Vault is more of a narrative deciphering experience, whereas Chants of Sennaar has a more puzzle-y feel. The language/script in Heaven's Vault stays the same throughout the entire game, whereas Chants of Sennaar switches out the glyphs you're deciphering with a new set every ~2 hours or so. This keeps things fresh, but it also means you don't get as familiar with the intricacies of the language you're deciphering, which I personally think is a bit of a shame. Still, I enjoyed my time with Chants and if you were to put a gun to my head and force me to assign an arbitrary number, I'd give it a solid 8/10. Happily missed the first hours of the general Starfield release to finish this game instead.

  I was waiting for this game for a few month now and i must say i'm very happy with the result ! I played the demo a while back and i'm so happy to be able to see more of it ! The level design and scenery of the game are very well thought out, an example to follow ( at least up to where i am in the game (3h in)) It is very accessible and the concept of it is captivating. Learning a language by deduction ! AND the more observant of us will be rewarded by the game which is always great IMO. Long story short Chants of Sennaar... 1: is so beautiful and enchanting music and scenery 2: has impeccable level design 3: Is a very good for beginners and experts as well 4: explores a rarely seen elsewhere concept with language at its core. I reccomend it WHOLEHEARTEDLY. Please test it out, it's rare gem in puzzle/exploration games.

  An absolute must-play. It's the simple but sinister, stylised world of Monument Valley with the hieroglyph-translating focus of Heaven's Vault. It's point & click puzzle classic Loom by way of the incredible comic book worlds of Jodorowsky & Moebius. I can't recommend it highly enough.

  i think this game is really fun and creative!! but once you reach the final segment of the game (fifth area and onward) it stops being fun and creative!! the language puzzles don't really get a satisfying climax other than the part where you combine anchorite glyphs to make new ones, i really like that idea but you only do it for 2 minutes and then never do it again and these ending parts consist scarcely of puzzles and mostly of backtracking and stealth sections! these two things are oft hated already, but the meandering point-and-click gameplay makes them especially tedious! the plot becomes really boring when it stops being intertwined with the language puzzles, so it was hard for me to be invested in what was happening between the fifth area and the end of the game. however, even though the ending disappointed me so so hard on the puzzle gameplay front, i do really like some of the flavor it offers (such as the connections you built between the peoples becoming the symbol for "God" and the tapestries changing to reflect how the people's perceptions of each other have changed , i really like both of these things i just wish i was solving hard puzzles as well) i still recommend the game though!! i feel really bad shitting on the ending so much because my experience with the rest of the game was very positive!!! this is a very underexplored premise for a puzzle game but its one that really appeals to me specifically and for most of the game it delivered very well on that front. the design of the different languages is very satisfying and there was no particular puzzle where i felt unfairly stumped. if youre also super interested in the concept of a language translation-based puzzle game i think this game is definitely worth playing. i just thought the ending was really boring

  This is an excellent game for what it is. It can consistently make you feel lost, confused, and nervous with each new unknown language it presents you, but will typically give you multiple clues for each glyph, and set you on the path to understanding. Even in the worst case where you have all clues but one, process of elimination / brute force can help in filling in gaps. The caveats are: -The game is very short. While I wouldn't say it was cut short, having utilised its mechanics well, it's asking a high price for what is an 8-10 hours experience -The process of learning the final language, with the exception of the last few glyphs you learn (which are presented in an awesome way), is rather underwhelming compared to the variety of situations (play, eavesdropping, experimentation, co-operation, questions, signage, even theatre) in which you learn the others. I assume that this is to ensure that you can understand dialogue/instructions for the final part of the story. -The game's complexity/difficulty caps out on the fairly low end. One could say this is an upside in terms of accessibility, but don't play this looking for a challenge. -Stealth is useful for allowing you to learn the language of otherwise hostile peoples, but otherwise feels disjointed from the rest of the language learning and puzzle solving. However, all that in mind, the way the themes of the game play into the finale is wonderful, and though the story is minimal, it still makes a salient point about language and cultural perspective. If you're interested at all in a puzzle game where you decipher languages again and again, play this.

  Great puzzle game. If you liked Return of the Obra Dinn and The case of the golden Idol (deductiongames ?), you'll like this one as well !

  Excellent and gorgeous adventure. Mostly puzzles, with a bit of stealth here and there. Puzzles are mostly cryptographs, but not only; all well designed, with clues found through exploration and storytelling, beautifully integrated. The weakest aspect: Gamepad input is rather clunky in stealth sections, making spot selection often... delicate; mitigated by not having to redo all after a fumble. Level design is superb. Visuals are old-school in vibe (fixed cameras and disorientation on transitions; no map,) new school in detail, all-round delightful. Perfect sound and score. Vibrant and full of little surprises. Surpassed my expectations in both quality and quantity. 今 juego 𓂘 ซื้อ

  An excellent entry into the nascent translate-em-up genre. Sennaar is probably easier than the likes of Heaven's Vault or Tunic because it gives frequent feedback and confirmation that translations are correct. The puzzles are also clever without being very difficult. The graphics are beautifully stylized, minimalist without being sparse.

  A spectacular game for language/puzzle buffs who like to explore Pros: * Excellent use of language (five languages, to boot) to power puzzles. * Unique puzzles and leveraging of the language mechanics. * Excellent level design * Beautiful music, well-designed transitions, and more Cons: * For the most part, the actual plot is trite - didn't detract from my experience though, I was in it for the language and puzzles. Meh: * It warned me away from the bad ending, so I missed that achievement - I hear you can get both(?) * There were times I felt I had to brute-force puzzle solutions - I probably didn't have to, I forgot that holding middle-mouse-button displays interactibles while you're wandering, and so I probably missed clues I later found. TL;DR: If you like language puzzles, or just puzzles in general - GET. IT. Else, skip.
