  Another solo indie dev game that has more work, love, and polish put into it than most of the soulless AAA games today. This little gem has tons of character and is tons of fun with plenty of different build/character variation. For how cheap it is you would do yourself a disservice by not checking it out.

  When people said this game is better than Vampire Survivors, I initially didn't believe them. I was genuinely wrong. Its certainly different, but fundamentally the game is similar to what you get playing Vampire Survivors. You control a character, and contact with enemies damages you. You do not control your attacks, you can simply walk around collecting pickups in the hopes of leveling up and acquiring better means of defending yourself. The differences though are what make the game, in my opinion, more interesting and offer a lot more variety. 1st - You raise minions who do all the combat for you. Unlike in vampire survivors, where you slowly acquire weapons that your character automatically uses, in Boneraiser your surrounded by a goon squad that has 2 priorities: 1. kill enemies, and 2. protect you - in that order. Its always fun watching your "guard" run off screen to the left fighting ever more ridiculously armored folks. Because your units move around, you have to occasionally dip out of the safety of your wall of defenders and bullets to grab items - meaning even late game you can be vulnerable. Your defense is a fluid, living thing. 2nd - The map is small, fixed in size, and customizable. Your playing area is a small square of land surrounded by a dark woods. Enemies emerge from these woods to attack you, but you can tinker with your battlefield and fill it with traps, buff items, and other stuff. Its actually cool, because kiting becomes that much more challenging, and the map mid to late game can feel downright cramped with how much fighting is occurring in it. 3rd - You have more to do at any given second. The game isn't just walk around and collect the bones, much like how vampire survivors occasionally has you walking around collecting gems. You do have bones, which you can use to raise minions, but you also can pick up spells (super abilities you can cast), you can dash (very important since you don't have as much space to wander around) and many of your traps and defense are activated - meaning you have to go over to them in the middle of a fight and light the fuse. Additionally, you have relics, which can be things like weapons that fire automatically yes, but also minion buffs, curses, and just game-changers for your current run. 4th - There is variety galore. There are classes that play entirely different from each other, from a class that literally can't summon minions and instead plays like a war mage, to a class where you level up wax dolls and as they gain combat experience you can turn them into different units turning the game into a squad based strategy game. There's even a literal vampire survivor - who uses a gaggle of weapons to fight off the meanies coming to stab them in the heart. 5th - The meta-progression is just better. You make progress, actual progress, every run - unlike vampire survivors where sometimes it was achievement or luck based, here you collect gold and souls and spend those on meta upgrades. Add more enemy types, upgrade your defenses, add more features to your unlocked classes, even add new spells and trinkets. All of it, defined progress, every single run. Its fantastic. I recommend it highly, doubly so if you played vampire survivors and enjoyed it. If you have not purchased vampire survivors, buy this first and see if you like it. If you do, you'll get hundreds of hours and in my opinion the better game of the two.

  Ok! Boneraiser Minions! (And be sure to read the first five letters of the title, and then you'll get a preview of the dev's sense of humor.) What to say about this one? Well, I want to give an advance heads up... If you're like me, it will take a small investment of time to really get into this one. I'll be candid and thoroughly honest - when I first started playing, my initial reaction was, "Meh." I thought it might be one of those Steam games that finds its way to the back corners of my library, alone and shaking in the cold. I'm glad I gave it a fair shake, though, because now I've got 23 hours and counting. Once I got over an initial sort of "hump," now I'm addicted. I HAD to know why it had so many positive reviews, so I kept trying, and it has turned out great. So what's up with this one? Well, like all the others in the bullet heaven genre, the idea is simple: it's you vs hoards of enemies. You kill them and pick up experience... bones (rather than gems in this case), level up, add to your firepower, kill more hoards, level up, etc. Then, in between runs, you buy permanent upgrades that affect all future plays. The "meta progression" or permanent upgrades in this case was what got me over that "hump." I am usually pretty ok at new VS-style bullet heaven games, even when I'm first starting out... but it seemed like on this one, I'd go out, collect a few bones, raise a few minions, and then die. Kinda frustrating. The key is in keeping on keeping on, earning more coins and souls and whatnot to buy those upgrades... then you'll get into the true "hoards of badguys, and I'm killing all of them" action. But there is just SO MUCH to this one - so many things to upgrade, so many different items in the home room, so many different options to explore, so much to customize... Once I really started unlocking things, I realized there were just... well, HOARDS of different ways to play this game. And holy mother of Moses, there's something like... what is it, 177 achievements or something like that!? A bullet heaven player's dream - TONS of achievements to shoot for, and a zillion ways to do it! Another great thing are just the BOATLOADS of minions you can summon/upgrade/evolve, TONS AND TONS of relics and spells, all kinds of different characters, a LOT of maps... I mean, us BH fans like variety, and this one has TONS of variety. If you're looking for more than 5 characters and 3 maps, more than 20 items, etc then you need to check this one out. And the humor is.... just stupid. Like, stupid in a good way. 12-year-old level humor. This game INSISTS on making constant b0ner jokes. I've caught myself cackling like an idiot several times. And not just those type of jokes... everything is so... juvenile. The bad guys are called "meanies," for pete's sake. You will feel 5 years old playing this. Once you really get going with a lot of good upgrades, you find yourself returning for undead battles again and again. Oh, did I mention leaderboards? Heck yeah, leaderboards. So if you're looking for a solid contribution to your bullet heaven collection, this one is a fantastic one to go for. Just give it a bit, put in some effort, and buy plenty of those permanent upgrades, and this game is an absolute riot.

  Yesterday late at night I decided to try Boneraiser Minions for the first time. No harm in playing a quick game before going to bed, right? Wrong. 6 hours later I was still up, still playing the game. The sun was already out, I had work in less than an hour. Still, I couldn't stop playing the game, my transformation into a minion was complete. I will keep playing as you command Master Necromancer, and I will write a positive review on Steam as you ordered to attract more unsuspecting people to your undead army.

  If you tire of Vampire Survivors but hunger for more games of that same type, Boneraiser Minions is the one to go for. It brings insane amounts of enjoyment for its price tag and you can tell whoever made this has put a lot of love into this game.
