  Aside from this game being a guilty pleasure, it is actually really fun. It looks quite good visually, has a really solid fighting system, and a very unique rewind mechanic that keeps the gameplay interesting. In addition, the voice acting and dialog is so bad it's legendary. Highly Recommended.

  BLADES OF TIME is the best spectacle fighter Platinum never made. Why aren't you playing this game? TIME SPENT: 5 hours on PC port. 5 hours each on 360 and PS3 versions. --- PROS [+] and CONS [-] --- [+] Fantastic fluid combat. Your attack moves are distilled to the essentials you need to manage the aggressive mobs the game throws at you. That game requires some strategy to survive some of the enemy groups. Vertical attacks will launch an enemy and get you out of crowds. Dash targeting will allow you to quickly get around the arenas, eliminate distant dangerous enemies, and whittle down large groups. No Quick Time Events needed. [+] Exceptionally well-paced for the first 3 or so hours. The game does a very good job of ramping up the difficulty early on, as it explains the most important mechanics through combat challenges and brief tutorials. These first 3 hours are some of the most thrilling melee combat I've played this decade, and that includes the Bayonetta titles. [+] Unlimited lives with generous waypoints. Deaths are common, but you rarely lose more than a few minutes of progress when you die. [+] Runs quite well on budget laptops. If you lower the resolution to 800x600 with low details, the game stays above 25 fps on $300 laptops from 2017. Triple-digit framerates are possible with decent video cards and fast dual-core processors. [+] Excellent gamepad controls. (I cannot test this game with a keyboard and mouse, as I am not skilled enough to play demanding real-time action games with such controls.) [+] Very good music full of rousing orchestral tunes. [+] Art direction is quite good. [+] Skippable cutscenes. [+] Reasonably priced. The game currently lists at $10 on Steam outside of sales (as of 2019). [+] Demo included on Steam. [-] No manual included in the Steam version. The game does a poor job of explaining how the healing potions are earned. [-] No Easy Mode. The default difficulty is the lowest one available at the start of the game. The action is so demanding, that most gamers may not defeat the first game's first boss. [-] Some of the enemies and puzzles may have unclear solutions. [-] The game is extremely linear. [-] The spells you learn seem to be interchangeable, in terms of effectiveness. They largely function as bonus skills to be used in specific combat situations, but aren't required. [-] Guns may be too overpowered, in some situations. [-] The very good music is mostly an indistinguishable suite of rousing orchestral tunes. [-] The story and dialogue are dumb. And not "fun" dumb, as Platinum stories sometimes are. The English voice acting is tolerable. [-] Heroine's character design may be a distraction. [-] The DLC (Dismal Swamp) is a terrible 90-minute campaign centered around a character with fewer moves, interminable wave-based mission design, and a plethora of bad "quicksand" bits.

  Before anything else, yes, this is a good enough game to spend time and the cost money on. Ok, now let's get to business. My first impressions of the game (watching the first cinematics and playing the tutorial) was that it would be one of those generic hack and slash games you find on Google's Play Store. Well, I was wrong. This game surprised me on many ways, first of all, it has a quite good and original soryline, it is not like a immersive story or something that really catches you like The Last of Us, but just enough for you to get interested and curious to finish the game. The second thing is that it has one of the best combat mechanics I've ever seen on a Hack n' Slash game; good spells, creative combos and the Rewind Time thing is pretty cool, and the most important thing: it is actually challenging, which is a big surprise for this genre. Although it's true you'll be most of the time pressing the left button of your mouse, this game requires a certain level of skill and smart thinking to defeat enemies. Comparing this game's graphics to other 2012 games says it has a pretty mediocre rendering, but the environment's aesthetics and details really makes up for it, the game gets pretty creative on designing the levels. However, the characters' designs aren't really worthy of the amazing background. None of the characters (except the bosses) fit well in the scenarios, even looks like they just came back from a cosplay event (for the human characters) or from some kind of future apocalypse (for the "chaos" things, other enemies look good). Anyway, this is getting too long so I'll end it here. I wanted to say something about the puzzles but they are just pretty plain, stand on buttons and time rewind sometimes. The thing is: this is a really good game with a nice challenge and I really recommend you playing it :D Oh and I also invented a Blades of Time-themed drinking game You take a shot every time Ayumi says "at all" during the playthrough. Have fun.

  Blades of Time is a masterfully crafted gem in the action arcade genre. The game mechanics are original, complex and interesting. Its not all about button acrobatics though, you will have to think a bit to get past most challenges, and the mix between the dexterity requirements and the thinking requirements is masterfully done. Never too difficult, never too punishing, just enough to be fun. The story is neat for this kind of game and the graphics are great. The game does not require pattern memorizing or super-human reflexes, with a little attention you can defeat bosses on first encounter, which is a big plus for me. Arcade style action games dont get better than this.

  I added this game to my wishlist literally 10 years ago when it first came out. I'm finally in a financial position to try out games I'd put on the back burner. Considering this game is 10 years old, it's pretty good graphically, and the combat is smooth. The story line is very.... Tomb Raider meets Prince of Persia. Ya know, starts off based in some sort of alternate Earth and then suddenly takes a hard left into the High Fantasy realm. Which isn't a bad thing, it's interesting enough that I want to know how the story ends. There's a lot of mechanics going on, and the game makes you really think about combat rather than button smashing your way through. The biggest critique I have is the voice acting. Sometimes the main character really sounds like she's just reading the script for the very first time. Other times, her flighty, unaffected tone fits perfectly.

  I do not often write revies but i'll do it in this case, because i don't get the negative reviews. Yes, the game is genrally mediocre, but the graphics aren't bad, the voice acting is okay (Ayumi is voiced by the same woman who voiced Cassandra Pentaghast, so show a little respect, you peasants. :D ), i encountered one glitch, namely the rifle just wouldn't reload for whatever reason and the gameplay is fine, fast paced and the fighting often is no cakewalk, especially on Hard. I'm playing with mouse and keyboard and it works just peachy for me. So what? The game is hard? That your problem with it? Is it that it's not a masterpiece of gaming craftsmanship? Do people forget that you can abuse the hell out of the time rewind feature and lose fights all the time? Anyway, i'm enjoying it for what it is. Certainly not the second coming of christ but it sure as hell is not a bad game or in any way unplayable. If you're into Hack & Slash this is a solid game to pick up. If you're in doubt just wait for a sale. I for one do not feel like i wasted my time or money here. I haven't played the DLC yet, so i'll shut up about it. But i'll certainly be playing through it.

  Quick action hackn'slash game with beautiful graphics and some puzzles to solve. Overall it's a good game, there are some flaws like not-too-good voice acting and little bugs. But it's worth playing.

  Disclaimer: I'm only 2 hours into the game so far (3rd 'world'). Blades of Time was something I picked up on a lark while it was on sale. The fact that it was from the people who made X-Blades (never played, but it looks really fanservicey) and checking a few reviews made it seem mediocre. I was wrong. This game is wonderful. Don't get me wrong, it is flawed. Graphics aren't great and the controls aren't as tight as you'd want in a 3rd person platform/hack and slash game but the core mechanics: adding powers to your character, the combat combo system, ranged combat and melee combat all feel great. The real shining point, however, is the time manipulation. In games like Prince of Persia, you rewind time to recover from mistakes. Here, you rewind time, which locks you in place and rewinds everything ELSE in the world. Then, there are two copies of you running around. Your former self just continues to do whatever it was that you did at that time, and enemies AI kicks back in. An example of this is if you wanted, you could copy yourself a bunch and all have them aim rifles, shooting at a tree. Then make a final copy which kites the bad guy over to where the shots are happening. It's unlikely that you'd need to do this, but it's possible! Anyway if you see this game on sale, grab it. It's not going to push the boundries of PC gaming, gaming or even your expectations of games, but it will provide you a solid amount of *fun*.
