To start I feel it is important to say that I have played a lot of Halo over at least a decade. I have played every main title in the franchise as well as most spin-offs. This is the first multiplayer that 343i have released that actually feels good to play but it still has some issues.

    The Good:

<*> A good start with the number of gametypes available, although I hope this will increase after the beta period. <*> A solid sandbox where no weapons or vehicles feel pointless. <*> The gameplay feels smooth and responsive and has translated well to a more modern shooter in style. <*> Runs super smoothly, much better than the flights. <*> Academy features make the game very accessible to new players.

    The Bad:

<*> Not enough maps for launch. This might be changing after the beta period. Also, no Infection, Juggernaut or other classic gametypes as of November. <*> Outright bad player progression system. They have already done some minor tweaks but more is needed. Performance based XP!! <*> The amount of player expression accessible at the start is abysmal. Comparing this to Halo: Reach levels in your marketing was a joke. <*> The in-game UI needs some work with toggles to allow a more 'legacy' approach. <*> No Jeff Steitzer in BTB! (343 are working on this post launch!)

    Conclusion:

While not currently the best Halo multiplayer, Halo Infinite has a solid start here on PC with this multiplayer beta period but it definitely has work to do on the player progression and expression fronts. Because the game is 'live service' I am sure the issues of not enough maps or gametypes will be addressed post-launch over the next few months. In the mean time I recommend hopping in if you already haven't and giving it a go, even if you are new to the franchise and find it quite daunting. Note: This review is purely about the multiplayer component of Halo Infinite as of the Beta phase (November 2021). A campaign review will be added to the Campaign DLC store page and I will update this review if needed after future updates to the multiplayer.

This is a review for the Multiplayer portion of the game. The Campaign is great but not worth $60, try and play it through game pass. But as for the multiplayer... Its an unfinished mess. 343 has proved their incompetence once again with this release. I will number the issues as it would be a chore to read in paragraph form. 1. The matchmaking is always broken with every update, 343 cant even get a simple patch to work without messing with other aspects of the game. 2. The desync is absolutely game breaking, you'd think you were playing a Dragon Ball game with all the teleportation happening. Shots and melees that should have clearly hit will miss. And enemies will swing the gravity hammer from across the map and still hit you. 3.Lack of player collision ruins melee engagements. Time after time I passed through somebody only to get back smacked myself. 4. There is a great lack of content in this game. From few maps to few game modes to play, the game just turns into a boring snoozefest. Forges absence really hits hard this time around. 5. The custom games doesn't work.... like at all. Basic features are missing out of the gate, making this the most bare bones custom games of the series. And even when you save a custom game type, it will delete itself after you play it. This doesn't even take into account the host migration bug that happens, rendering the game unplayable anyway. Good luck having fun. 6. The monetization is predatory and shows how out of touch 343 is with fans. It has gotten slightly better since launch with reduced pricing, but $5 for a color you get on one armor core is disgusting. Free to play is not an excuse for this. On a side note, a bundle that was in the store prior to the price decrease will remain the price it was. So $20 for HAZOP, a helmet we've had for 10 years is still in play. 7. The customization is laughable. From missing textures to being locked to an "armor core" that heavily restricts your freedom to choose what armor pieces you want to mix and match, this is truly the worst Halo has to offer in this department. Even Halo CE let you choose your own color, a game that released 20 years ago. 8. The gameplay is terrible. No idea why everyone thinks its great. The vehicles handle like you're driving on ice and have the durability of wet tissue paper. The sniper rifle is utterly useless with random bloom after each shot, not to mention if you play on KB and M you get a nice surprise of NEGATIVE AIM ASSIST that pushes you away from your target while aiming from the hip. Sliding breaks the game and allows for insane movement techs that make the game more unfun than it already is. The grapple shot is overpowered, people can slingshot themselves across the map and wipe a team with a gravity hammer or sword. The grapple shot also makes many vehicles obsolete as they will get hijacked every time from 15km away. Good luck using the banshee because its underpowered. There are many more gameplay issues I refuse to list as it will bloat this section to ridiculous proportions. 9. There is no progression system. There is nothing to earn unless you have the battle pass. No ranking to show your time spent playing. NOTHING. All you get is the same monotonous challenges over and over again. Once you hit tier 100 there is absolutely no point to play the game outside of free event cosmetics. Conclusion: Do not play this game. Infinite barely qualifies as a game let alone a live service game. Go pick up MCC which is the same price as an armor bundle on Infinite. You get way more bang for your buck and an incredible experience. Its a shame that even Halo 4 has this game beat on Multiplayer despite that games flaws as well. But hey at least Infinites art style is great. 343 do us a favor, drop the Halo franchise and hand it off to another developer thats competent. I refuse to wait another 4 months for a simple texture to be fixed, enough is enough.

Halo Infinite occupies an absolutely inexcusable state of content completeness: No Co-Op No Split-Screen No Forge No Firefight No Griffball No Infection No Season 2 No Roadmap Desync is absolutely rampant in Matchmaking, pathetic map and gametype rosters, jaw-droppingly poorly implemented "events" comprised of re-skinned fiesta slayer matches, zero meaningful updates and a microtransaction system so deliriously avaricious it's practically demolished the multiplayer armor customization system only to sell it back to you $20 per pauldron, one piece at a time. This is not a live service game. This is a money laundering scheme with a thin veneer of Halo slathered over it. As an avid fan of the Halo franchise I am disgusted with the mismanagement of this series perpetrated by 343 industries. These buzzards have taken what once was a icon of game design and mangled it into a cynical cash-grab riddled with microtransactions, absent actual content. This game should have been a masterpiece, instead it's a 500 million dollar failure six years in the making. A 500 million dollar failure I wanted to fall in love with, which just sucks even more. Don't waste your time with it, not for full price, not for the battle pass, not even for free. This game will not get better until 343 pulls their head from between their own legs.

Ok let's get right into it and I'm not going to sugar coat anything. As a preface, I am a long time, 20-year Halo fan who's been positively impacted by Halo and all the experiences that came from it. I've done it all, split screen and LAN parties all night to finally getting internet to play Halo 3 online when that came out. I absolutely love Halo and everything about it. Therefore, it saddens me greatly to see the current state of Halo (and gaming in general). 343 had 6 years to get this game right, 6 YEARS and they still mostly flopped. By wanting to "reach a broader audience" they watered down and ruined the identity of Halo. This is nothing more than a theft of a beloved IP, using it's name to steal money from the consumers. 343 AND Microsoft (yes, we can't only blame 343 because this is Microsofts flagship IP, afterall) ruined this franchise. The only positive things about this game are that the gameplay and campaign are actually pretty decent. Other than that, we don't have Forge and we have no idea when or if that's going to happen, no split screen or co-op campaign, no progressions system, customization is in shambles and locked behind paywalls. It's garbage. They claim that the multiplayer is free to play but is it really? We all know that most of us got the campaign when it came out which was $60. That's the typical price for a game with both single and multiplayer. So really, this "free to play" multiplayer seems like an excuse for Microsoft and 343 to have their atrocious online store and battle pass systems. Absolutely pathetic and disgraceful. Really the whole AAA gaming industry is pathetic and disgraceful. How many more Cyberpunks, GTA Onlines (the current and upcoming plans for it, anyways), Battlefield 2042's, Call of Duty's, and Halo: Infinite's are we going to take before something changes? I don't care if 343 gets this game to a completed state NEXT YEAR because this should have been completed on release. That's what I expected when I payed for this game (or any game) to be - in a completed state on release. Not having forge, customization, a progression system, theater, split-screen, co-op campaign, etc. is the Battlefield 2042 equivalent of calling a scoreboard and voice-chat "legacy features". Do not recommend and never will until 343/Microsoft/the gaming industry, have finally and truly learned their lesson.

If you want a review from a hardcore Halo fan, here it is. I grew up on Halo, I lived and breathed Halo my entire youth, and I can say with absolute confidence this game feels like Halo. The campaign for this game is a massive step in the right direction for 343 compared to the previous 2 titles. I enjoyed my play through on Heroic from front to back. I don't want to spoil any of the story, but I will say that it lacks in a couple of departments. However, the good outweighs the bad overall and I would definitely play it again when co-op is added. If you can get the story mode on sale for around $30-40, I found it to be worth around that price. However...I have to talk about the other half of this game. The multiplayer mode of this game had so much potential. When it first came out, I absolutely could not get enough. The maps, the new guns, everything felt so right and I felt a happiness I hadn't for a long time. I wasn't even that mad about the 10 dollar price for the battlepass, as I felt that for the most part, the content you got was worth it (Especially if you have fond memories of Halo: Reach). 343 was extremely vocal about all the content / bug fixes / updates they had planned. I was so overly excited for all of these things, and I felt that for once I could actually believe in 343 Industries. However, as time went on, and I became more distant from the honeymoon phase of the game, I began to feel the burnout. 343 had not been up to schedule on everything they said they were, and the excuses kept coming. Something was wrong, but there was still enough hope in the community for them to pull through. I finished the battlepass, and eventually stopped playing. Since then, season 2 has released. However, the community has been extremely vocal about the slew of issues presented with this new season. Unfortunately, it seems that 343 has all but lied throughout the launch and post-launch of this game. I want to like this game, I really do, but its getting to the point where its becoming impossible. Somehow, if a couple years from now they have fixed the multiplayer, and people are having fun, I will return. But until then, I wouldn't waste my time.

What the F*** was 343 doing for 6 years?

Steam member for 15+ years and this is my 1st and probably only review that I'll make. Been playing halo since it's launch in '01. And I can say, with certainty, that halo died with bungie and halo reach. 343 has had the reigns for over a decade, and after 3 original halo titles, they still sh*t the bed somewhere along development "one step forward, three steps back" will be 343's legacy when it comes to the development of their games. Infinite has the core mechanics locked down, even the art style, similar to the bungie era titles. Your spartan is quick and maneuverable, like H2/H3/HR. But not stupidly fast like the cracked out junkie spartan you had in H4/H5. The insider flight tests were amazing, feedback was great, and as millions would say, "halo is back". And then the multiplayer actually came out, in beta form, and was so ass backwards from everything they said it would be in the marketing and teasing of the game. Its a desperate cash grab at this point, and everyone knows it. 6 years of development, 100+ employees and 500 million in funding, and yet infinite still, to this day, has less content than that of a $40 game like aliens: fire team elite. They made half of the game "frEE tO pLaY", but still charged full price of $60 for the other half of the game. They claimed "halo reach levels of customization", yet a good 85%+ of all cosmetics are locked behind pay walls and based on FOMO. I've had the same blue & red armor colors since H2, and jolly roger emblem for 18 years. And yet I can't even get that color combo/emblem in infinite. And even if I could, I wouldn't be surprised if 343 tried to charge me for them. The campaign is actually very good, and for the 1st time in 12 years, I actually enjoyed playing a halo campaign. It took me probably 4 or so years to actually muster the energy to force myself to play & beat H5's campaign. But I beat infinite's in just a few days, and enjoyed it doing so. I absolutely despised fighting the prometheans in H4 and especially H5. It felt like a chore fighting against them, but fighting against the banished in infinite was like how it always was in the 10 years of halo under bungie...actually fun and enjoyable. I have zero motivation to play halo infinite. I only come back when they have the special events going on, as to try to unlock all the cosmetics. And during that time, I just hate it. All the desync issues are absolutely killing the enjoyment for me. Grenades keep disappearing immediately after you thrown them. Grenades never stick, or they do stick, then just vanish into thin air. Rockets don't shoot or explode. You'll get melee'd in the front, with full shields, yet somehow get insta killed anyways from a "back smack" or assassination. You hit someone point blank with a grav hammer, they don't die, but they can swing it 20ft away from you and still kill you somehow. Halo infinite is so far beyond broken and unfinished, its unreal. I thought they couldn't do any worse than than H5...but here we are. 260k players on steam, at launch, to less than 7k daily. They should have just delayed it for another 2 years. 343 have sh*t all over the halo franchise in the 12 years they've had it. They had everything going for them this time around, but still managed to colossally f*ck it up. Thanks for sh*tting on mine, and millions of others childhood, 343 industries. Maybe infinite will be good in 3 more years, until then, its a disgrace to the halo IP.
