Game itself is great...The Origin launcher you're forced to use, not so much. Be prepared for failed launches and the joy of continuously re-installing Origin. It's ridiculous (and completely unnecessary from the player's point to view) to make users install, update and troubleshoot a second launcher just because Steam and Origin can't learn to share and put their focus where it should be, which is on the user experience. Sometimes I miss the old days when you could just insert a disc, double click a file and play the game...

The game is great. Unfortunately, I have a less than 1% success rate with actually getting it to launch through Origin. Sometimes Origin will falsely claim the game is not installed. Sometimes the "play" button will simply be grayed out as if I do not even own the game. Sometimes attempting to launch the game will simply cause Origin to restart. Most of the time though, nothing happens at all. Do not financially support this fraud of a company. Obtain the game through other means. That way, you'll have a copy that actually works.

For the love of god DO NOT BUY THE FULL DLC VERSION, there is no need. Buy this much cheaper version and go to https://help.ea.com/ca/help/faq/dlc-for-classic-games/#dragonage where you can find click and download ALL the DLC to this game for FREE!. Its an official EA webpage. Do it and thank me afterwards with upvotes and awards :)

Do not buy this game on Steam! The Origin<>Steam connection is completely broken and each time I want to launch the game, it opens Origin, however, Origin can't locate the game, even though it's installed. The only way I've managed to get around to it is spamming both the Steam and Origin shortcuts at the same time, after a PC boot and 50% of the time it works. I've rebooted my PC over 100 times, reinstalled the game about 3 times on each client, the workaround above is the only thing that allows me to play the game, and only once before having to reboot the whole f*cking PC because of these bugs so hope that it doesn't crash. I'm no EA fan, however, given my issues, had I known what was in store for me when I bought the game, I'd have just skipped the game and go to DA:I. Or just buy on Origin (I feel sorry for having to deal with this bugs but that's nigh impossible to play normally otherwise). Finally, under no circumstances, install the game on other drives than C:. I initially made the foolish mistake installing on D: and Origin is completely messed up, had to waste another hour in moving the game, seeing it's f*cked, deleting stuff to make space on C: and reinstalling there only to get the 50% success chance for the game to boot. Given these technical limitations, do not buy the game here, however, in case you're stubborn, well, hope your tolerance of self-inflicted pain is high and you don't mind grey hair at 30. The game uses either DX9 or DX11 renderer, the former means cra*p visuals and something is very off with the anti-aliasing, it looks like the roads have glitter. The latter is sh*te on modern graphics cards, get used to textures missing in about 50% of areas and progressively getting worse the more you play. I do not have good experience whenever I play the game, the only thing that keeps me going is because I want to build for DA:I and not feel like cheating hacking choices I never personally made in the Keep, literally the only reason anyone would put up w/ having to reboot their PC each time and having the game look like it came out in 2000 due to the lack of textures often. Onto the gameplay, combat is so-so, good class combos: Mage, 2H Warrior, Melee Rogue, bad Combos: 1h Warrior, Ranged Rogue, there's a large difference in DPS between the good and the bad combos meaning that either you have to stick to enjoying the RPG elements of the game and maybe experimenting with like 2 mages and the anti-mage character in your party to hear the unique dialogue which means that this drastically prolongs fights due to the bad combo classes not being up to par or you have to stick with the same 5-6 characters in your party in case you go with a bad combo for yourself (the dialogue is interesting so do yourself a favor and pick a good combo and just enjoy swapping people around). The RPG element (i.e. choices) are drastically cut down compared to Origins but they still sometimes exist. For example, you can 'recruit' a slave (the actual slave, not the companion) for yourself if you want to go 'renegade' albeit your party will obviously not like it. These choices exist but are few and far between. They've changed some of the characters in 2 compared to Origins, Anders was trying to hook up with all women in Awakening, however, here he's bi and much more boring (some story explanation but not enough for such a massive change in character). The story is okay but nothing impressive. This game screams rushed and they needed another year or two to make it great, also them porting it over to Steam and not allowing it to run natively here is a gigantic downside. If you can get it for £5 go for it, maybe £10 with the DLC packages, however, I cannot stress this enough, do not buy it expecting a good experience on Steam and it doesn't make them enough money to fix it so it will never get fixed. Overall experience 1/10, the game itself, 4/10 (5/10 if they fix the renderer issues).

I thought I'd already reviewed this, but I guess not! Let's get the negative points covered right up front. <*>There will be crashes. Try to save often. They're not as bad as on DAO, but still, it happens. <*>Environments get reused quite a bit. More than quite a bit, in fact, you'll experience feelings of déjà vu every other quest. <*>Character customization exists to a degree, but you do play a set character. <*>Set location. Hope you enjoy Kirkwall because that's where you'll be spending your time! <*>Brown. Everything is still brown. Why? -A quick "meh" point here: the day/night setting for the map. I didn't even realize it existed the first few hours and was confused as to how long I was supposed to wait for night to fall. In retrospect, it was a neat addition that allowed for more tone to be set when visiting different areas (or the same areas, again...)- Now it sounds like I hated the game, but let's move on to the positive points! They do exist! This is a wonderful continuation from Dragon Age Origins and you'll see some familiar faces on your journey. I enjoyed the more action-based combat (not the waves of enemies, though), the dialogue, and the rivalry system. Fighting as a dual wielding rogue felt incredibly satisfying. Where DA2 really shines, though is in its storytelling. Quests were largely compelling when they weren't outright horrifying. Heck, even the horrifying quests were compelling. Companions have great banter and are as fleshed out as you'd expect them to be. Bring ones along that hate each other for maximum hilarity. I want to say more, but can't without giving spoilers, so I'll just say that the writing team really did their job incredibly well. When I first finished the game, I thought "never again" because I was over all of the repeating environments, but after some time away from the game, I want to go back in and experience the story as a different type of Hawke, get to know other companions, and see if I can catch any "tells" about events that unfold late-game. While situations in this game set up the plot of DA: Inquisition, don't skip DA2's dlc "Legacy" as it is also relevant in DAI. Despite the many issues with the game, I still heartily recommend it as, for me, the good did end up outweighing the bad by a reasonable margin, and I can't imagine skipping it while playing through the series.

Having to sign in to TWO seperate services to play a game that has zero online gameplay is simply ludicrous.

I was emotionally neglected as a child and now I am cursed to play all Bioware's rpgs through every year to get me some emotionally healthy found family time. This one scratches the itch particulary well.
