  I am 79 yeas old and bought this game years ago. I played it until it went bad. I could never find it again. My grandson told me to try steam. I played a while back I guess a total of three hours. I wish that there were more single player games for old times that don't know much about computers. I know enough to mess up look how long it took to get back to the game. Thank you. L Padro

  10/10 The best possible follow up to a classic game. Doom 2 is often overlooked or seen as a simple expansion to the original, which released a year prior. However, I believe Doom 2 to be more than just an expansion, but an improvement to the original. This is not to downplay the mastery presented in the original Doom, but more speaks to how impressive Doom 2 is. Doom 2 in my personal opinion has better level designs overall. The visual storytelling from the first installment is present here, the section taking place in the city is by far the most compelling section of the game. Doom 2's dynamic level design allows for 3D levels to flow smoothly instead of feeling as a feat the developers to flex their muscles. Platforming is something that was not used often in Doom 1, only prominent in episode 4. Doom 2 uses creative platforming to allow the player to feel the impact of their actions; jumping gaps feel like a huge risk, climbing across platforms by sprinting makes the player feel like Indiana Jones with a taste for violence. The variety is also worth noting, some levels feel tight while others feel like a path in the middle of a void. The combat in this game is the same as the first game, the only inclusion is the double-barreled shotgun. The shotgun packs a punch and is typically the go-to weapon, most demons are defeated within a couple shots max. Every weapon has a punch to it. However, the pistol is in the same situation as the first game; once you have the chain gun, the pistol will collect dust, but now the pump shotgun joins the pistol in the inventory once the double-barreled shotgun is obtained. The chainsaw is not as useful compared to the chainsaw in 1. Ammo is not too hard to find, but the balance between drowning in ammo to scraping the floor found a good middle ground; you can't mindlessly spray and pray in every room, if you properly conserve ammo, you will have enough to get you to more. Enemy variety is variety improved in Doom 2, there is no right or wrong way to take down each demon. Most of the enemies feel fair to go against, their design also worth noting the quality and detail of each. Each demon belongs, none sticking out like a sore thumb in the cast. Music is good in this game, which is par for the course for Doom games. Sound design in general is on point, everything matches, which is not easy to match strange sounds to non human enemies and locations. Graphically the game is nothing jaw dropping, since the style or quality does not show a large increase in quality, which makes sense for a game coming out a year after their predecessor. Another possibly controversial opinion is that the final boss for Doom 2 is a better experience than Doom 1. The icon of sin is menacing to go toe to toe with, compared to the fairly tame final boss in 1. If you conserve enough cells and rockets the fight is over very quick. Doom 2's final boss does a good job of scaling how massive the attack from the demons is. Overall, I recommend immediately starting Doom 2 after 1. Very much worth the try.,
