DLC Lonely Mountain adds a new world type to the game. Monsters have occupied a dwarven fortress and it's up to you to take back their home.

You're playing to survive. You won't be able to obtain and process unlimited quantities of ore, food, and other resources. You'll need to explore the looted fortress, clear away the rubble, and open hidden stashes in search of anything that might be even the least bit valuable.

DLC features:

  • New campaign level designed for experienced players.

  • Dwarven fortress that looks like a large labyrinth of secret rooms.

  • Modified Tech Tree focused on repairing objects and equipment found inside the fortress.

  • Search for lathes and additional stockpiles to establish manufacturing and repair found objects.

  • New mechanic of the waves of monsters that appear out of the hidden passages inside the mountain.

  • Objects and structures in the new level can now be partially damaged or repaired.

  • New monsters and beasts as well as tons of new objects, structures, and building blocks.

I just finished this level. I would say overall it's a positive, but it does play differently from the base game. The mountain is shaped like a triangle, so as you get further into the level, the travel times get longer. I think even the developers started thinking it was too far, because the lower you go, the sparser the hallway. I'd super recommend the Heroes DLC so that you can have the mage that makes portals, it will speed things up a lot. If you are only making your own you will probably have mana issues. The pathing isn't great, especially if dwarves are running away. You'll have to do some baby sitting and might have to restart the game when the bug where dwarves won't go to sleep appears. There are certain areas of the map that imps can't figure out where to go, so they pick stuff up and don't move. If you make/find a stockpile it will fix that. To make your life easier you might have to buy crafting items from the shop, because you can't find all materials otherwise.

Unlike the base game, this is more of a scenario map; while I have only gotten a few hours in, I'm getting my value out of it. An old dwarven hold, lost to the kin for years...being reclaimed and rebuilt, while orcs and goblins hold the lower levels. Almost the entire map is one giant mountain, with less opportunity to freely mine anywhere, but with a slew of new situations to contend with. When starting, stone and wood require long expeditions to gather, and the pace is slowed by dwarves climbing up and down the steep mountainside. Some items that I assume are map specific include space-saving crafting stations so are easier to integrate into your hold, flares that can be dropped down mineshafts to illuminate the bottom for a period of time, and a large number of new graphical doodads to make customizing your hold much more detailed, including quite a few types of new torches and candles for illumination. As I said before, I've only gotten a few hours in, but if you like CtW, and are intrested in trying a less open-world and more scenario-based level, you should find this quite enjoyable. Note on further playing: Strategy is completely different on this map. Forget your standard build orders, as there are not only gaps in what you can learn, but many recipes are "hidden", and not everything you want is easy to aquire. The map encourages you to not break up items that are ruined, rather to rebuild them (the recipes seem expensive, but considering what you loot when destroying walls, etc...not bad). Case in point: beds past the leafy 1st tier beds will require you to retrieve ruined beds from deeper in the mountain and repair them, as there is no recipe to build them from scratch. Also, don't get hung up on mining outside of the mountain. Gather wood if you need wood, hunt for animals, but everything else you can salvage within the mountain. Building up defenses against external threat are worthless, as goblin incursions come from breaking through your walls in various spots.

More than 400 hours behind in main game and I'm getting bit upset. I really love this game, but realizing that "campaign" never changed and it was only few levels long has put some frustration on me. Now we have to slowly buy more levels/worlds as payed DLC's. Eventually this game will cost $hit tons of money, since developer didn't select season pass option just like many other games. One has to eat I guess, but how about Lonely Mountain? Worst DLC for this lovely game so far. Its just so darn boring, repetetive and...boring. For free DLC this would be ok, but since we are asked to pay for it, I'm demanding some depth and little bit of freedom. Well, there is "depth" as we explore one giant mountain but no freedom since there isn't anything around it. This mountain is filled with rooms, corridors, pits with plenty of portals that keep pouring monsters in every 25 mins. Regular monsters are ok, but giant trolls that stack (if you don't kill them in every wave) can become quite annoying. Since AI walks like a blind librarian dwarves eventually run into these trolls - on multiple areas - at a same time. Make sure you have LOTS of healing potions and more mana you have the better (pumps). I worked around these portals by surrounding them with walls, but that will get boring too. Oh, another portal! Kill monsters. Build walls. Build ladders so dwarves can go around them etc. etc. Repeat. Many recipes can't be found or at least I haven't, so you have to find other ways to do things (which usually require time and patience). Example? Scaffoldings - I've found one and can't make more. So, Lonely mountain is repetetive? Yes, it should've had more variety with structures, monsters, items and have at least few elevators (instead of miles and miles of ladders) which you can't make. There's nothing to do or reason to go outside, since you get everything inside the mountain. Wood, water and even food. I love Craft the World, but I can't recommend this DLC. It has zero replay value in its current form. I ended up manually controlling dwarves to get things DONE. Their path finding takes ages and when building something they bring one item at a time which is absurd in map like this. New levels/worlds should be free and when asked for money, they should deliver new experiences with new elements. Well, obviously there are SOME, but they don't shine or reflect to this side. "Lonely Mountain" is built for recycling, what a shame...but main game is still pure gold and its CHEAP when its on sale! :) For CtW vets: 6/10 Others: 5/10 Money value to me: 0€

tl;dr: It's not bad, but feels unfinished, imbalanced and clunky. I generally like the idea about a scenario with a tech tree different from the others. And this scenario changes a bunch. Just not always for the better. My main concern is that building items and furniture is limited hard to what you find. Sure those 30 swords can help your dwarves; Just not as much if you can't use your salvaged materials to craft armor. The labyrinth style of the map will also spread your dwarves over the whole map. Most of their time they will just be busy to haul stuff for ages so you might use 1 out of 30 items they bring in. It's even more "fun" if lone straddlers are at the spawn points of the invasion, since their AI is too dumb to retreat without getting lost and eventually getting killed by archers. Micromanaging that is annoying; Especially since some jobs are significantly more useful here (warrior/miner/climber) and some downright useless (e.g. fisher). I think some tweaks would already greatly improve the scenario, so maybe just wait a bit until you buy.

The DLC is interesting. It has unique map that is not similar to others but at the same time, it has bugs and unclear recipes. The tech tree is reworked and has unique recipes that are not always better than basic. For example, you can craft thematic chair from the broken chair but it gives you lower comfort than original. Sometimes you can craft certain items but the crafting screen is clear. It informs you how many you can craft but you can't see what exactly do you need and can't craft that item at all. Sometimes you can't proceed further without forcing yourself to explore the map to collect broken parts and repair them. There are also problems with inability to craft an elevator when you can find it's broken piles of junk and your dwarves have to spend time on their trip to destination. But with all of these things that I didn't knew before purchasing DLC, I can recommend it because gameplay is half-different from the typical maps and will entertain you for some time.

It's Craft a different World, a new environment quite unlike the regular game, most traditional crafting recipes don't work in this game, items like beds, tables, weapons, armour etc. are either found or made from the remnants of worn out items. Workshops, lathes, cookers etc are already built for you and can't be moved, you just have to find em! - You can buy traditional equipment from the shop, but not any of the new stuff. - The map itself is a one off, already built for you to explore, no mining required, each new game plays exactly the same map, so that may limit it's replayability (is that a word?) - Loads of resources can be found by destroying old stock piles, packing cases etc. but then it all needs collecting, which takes time, Dwarfs & Imps seem to pick up all the rubbish stuff first, Armour, Jewels, Gold Coins etc. are just not a priority, harrumph! - When the enemy attack they break through the walls, reminds me of Dungeon Keeper 2, but a few well placed steel traps soon see them off! - Finally, it's along way down to the bottom of the map, after a few re-starts to work out what to do I've now played just over 8 hours on a game and reckon I'm only half way down, it's a grind, it's tedious, it's even on x2 fast forward and still taking an age to finish. - Oh, if anyone want's some cob webs, just ask, I've got loads of em!! - "I only recommend this DLC for the more experienced player who is looking for a new challenge" Good luck ;) ----- Edit ----- I was 10 hours in and had learnt a few lessons and some new tricks/strategy so started over, now I know what I'm doing it is quite enjoyable and much quicker, spend those gold coins wisely ;) -----Edit No.2----- Having finished the map (would I play it again, probably yes, but on a harder level) I went back to the regular game, there are some nice new crafting recipes, armour, statues, odds and sods that must have been added with the DLC, these are not available to craft on the new map but a welcome addition to the regular game.

I was initially intrigued by the differences in this DLC... I appreciate the effort by the game-makers to up the game/change the game for advanced players. But for me... it does not suit my play style. I can't really craft or plan or build... it's more EXPLORE the world. Not being able to dig, build, or craft as desired removes my joy.

Craft The World - Lonely Mountain Review Our very own version of the Lonely Mountain: Craft The World style…. Please note that this Review may contain spoilers from the Base game Some key points that this game add on has to offer: 1. New Game World 2. New Monsters 3. Updated Tech Tree 4. Tons of new items Replayability: This DLC adds onto the base game, expanding it by adding a massive new world to your collection. MGR Gaming’s Conclusions: Craft The World - Lonely Mountain is the next best thing… We get a map themed after Tolkien’s writing work; a massive mountain complex full of treasure and danger. The new enemies are all Orcs and Troll themed; to go with the new theme that this map offers. It goes without saying that this is a brilliant add on to an already brilliant game; The mountain itself was designed beautifully. It is completely built and full of forgotten tools and other usable objects. Fallen to ruin years ago, now inhabited by Orcs and Trolls. Everything that was built by the previous Dwarves decayed with age; as you remove these old objects, they become broken down items in your inventory that can all be restored to their former glory as you obtain the recipes while mining deeper. The entirety of this map has been carefully designed to test your skills, don’t get me wrong this map is quite difficult and it will provide you with numerous challenges but hours upon hours of fun. All is not lost though; as you mine and explore you will come across forgotten buildings; new and old to make use of and help in reclaiming the mountain. It is time to be more than just a Dwarf; lead your people and become the King under the Lonely Mountain!
