  Don't Pick On The Fat Kid is alright, there's better beat em up's knocking about. It has a quirky story, a little depth to the combat (you've got some special moves, abilities level up the more you use them although I punched my way through most of the game as there didn't seem to be an immediate need to level anything else up). I'd pick this up if you've got a couple of hours to kill and want to play through something a little silly. I uploaded a bit of gameplay footage here: https://youtu.be/_tFd-5JbsA0

  I stumbled upon the developer working on this on a live-stream and after watching him working on it on a few different occasions I just had to pick it up. I definitely wasn't disappointed, it's as fun to play as it looks! Also, I've had an xbox controller laying around gathering dust, so this game also afforded me the perfect chance to dust that off and erase the guilt of wastefully buying a gamepad I never use. So that's a plus. It's very much outside of the genres I normally play so I can't provide the same in-depth analysis I normally would in a review since I have little to compare it to (it's been decades since I played a brawler; last one was streets of rage on my mega drive, a long time ago). I am hardly a brawling game connoisseur though so I'm just going to leave it to others to delve into the fighting mechanics in depth. But, I will say that to me the fighting mechanics felt satisfying and enjoyable. The game includes many fun elements, such as destructable environments, leveling up of abilities, and what basically amounts to a bestiary (I can't remember what it's called in the game but it lets you see the enemies and their stats). I especially enjoyed the way the developer designed the end of level bosses: making clever use of props and/or minor characters and combining them into some power-rangers-esque combination mega-zord enemy. Starting off simple; with the jock riding a football quarter back, and increasing in elaborateness all the way up to the drama level's prop-monster that's featured prominently in the trailer. At the end of the day, all your enemies are fellow students who are bullying the main character, so I have to admire the developer's creativity at being able to spin what are basically just fellow students into so many interesting boss varieties! Overall it's a solid game that's fun to play, doesn't take itself seriously, and manages to do interesting things with the elements available to it via the world and the story.

  10/10 game. Played on easy and beat the game in 2.3 hours. Totally worth the game price IMO considering it is a fun brawler, multiple difficulty levels, and achievements to get. I love the simple but very important story: The bullied kid becomes the #1 bully. Let this be a lesson to all kids in schools these days that bully other kids....Don't do it. Not ever worth it. Treat all people with respect and dignity.

  I really wanted to like this game since I’m a huge fan of old school 2/2.5D beat ‘em ups. Plus, it’s a small development team and I’m always down for giving some love to underdog developers. But this is an honest review, so... This game’s graphical presentation was what initially caught my eye and made me go ahead with my purchase. Sadly, that’s the best thing about this title. Everything else about Bully Beatdown is pretty sub-par. The annoying shred guitar soundtrack really started to grate on me after a few levels in. The controls weren’t awful, but the special attacks (of which there are only a few) are awkward to execute. The character’s extremely limited moveset got old fast - which, in turn, made the gameplay in general get boring and monotonous pretty quickly. I powered through to the end of the game, but sadly this game won’t be getting a replay from this reviewer; deleted.

  For an inexpensive beat em up game, this one is worth the price. Refined gameplay, humorous animations and cutscenes, and interesting power-ups. I liked the way the power-ups were obtained through attack usage, encouraging me to try different attacks. I thought the hand-drawn animations were great, but I especially liked putting the beat-down to the high school student tropes. Smashing my way through the school cafeteria, gymnasium, and auditorium was super rewarding. A couple minor problems that i had was the hit-boxes are too high for my tastes, requiring positioning above the enemies. A bigger problem is the all-important controller support: I had to enable Steam's tool to get actions to work correctly, and even then, I could not use the trigger buttons. The support forum has a lot of complaints about this, but it does not look like it will get fixed. Lastly, i think there could have been more background music, instead of the same guitar riff looped forever. The sound effects are limited, too. For the 5,000 MBs of disk space required, I am surprised there were not more assets used here. No doubt some of that is the bloated Unity game engine used. All in all, this is a fairly short campaign (2 hours), but it has a number of difficulty levels that will encourage replays. This is a cute and memorable game that will have you coming back to play again. It is easy to pick up and put down, with all the skill upgrades saved, and the cost of continuing after death is just one coin. The game makes it a lot of fun rampaging through the levels, smashing everything, and having fun brawling the enemies. Other than the minor quirks, I recommend this game to anyone looking for a fairly easy fighting game, with a cheesy high school theme. I played this game on an ubuntu desktop with radeon mesa graphic drivers and an xbox-type gamepad controller.

  I have tried two different controllers with this game and no configuration works properly. Would have liked to play it unfortunately nothing works correctly. Edit: Was actually able to get my Logitech F710 working with this game and I was able to progress a bit on the game, will provide a more thorough review once I have completed the game. For now what I can say with certainty is that this game [b][i]will not work[/i][/b] with the Valve's Steam Controller - so if this is the only controller you have/use [b][i]do not get this game[/i][/b]. So far for the price the game play itself is not bad, but the controller issues certainly bump it down for me, to a neutral rating (but changing my review to recommend for now). So if you would like to play it, just wait for a sale, and make sure to have a controller that actually works with this game.

  Bully Beatdown is a fun and quick to play Beat em up game. The game has a unique leveling system in which the more you use a certain skill the stronger you get at it. Which i actually love and think is the best part of the game. The game itself is cheap and honestly is worth the price of four dollors, sort of upset this game never once came up on my timeline since its been out for a while. Be warned the game gets sort of dark around the last couple of levels but aside from that the game is short and comical in its own way following the short comics of a kid being bullied but by fighting by sort of becoming the bully himself. Great game.... Also Belly Roll... is the way to go..... just end everyone.

  Great game. Love the fast paced gameplay and fresh graphics. The storyline is fun and intriguing and the extra difficulty gives it some extra flavour after you beat it for the first time. A must buy in my eyes.

  I am a huge fan of beat em up titles, and had been wanting to try this one for a while. Now that I have, I can say it was actually a lot better than I expected it to be. First of all, the art is really great. There is a fair amount of diversity within the enemies. Cheerleaders, jocks, rockers, football players, security guards, school mascots, and more will put up a fight! The cutscenes are well done too. They are each told in a comic book style scene, but don't drag out and get to the gameplay quickly. The gameplay is pretty standard for a beat em up, though they update your moves the more you use them, and a lot of the fun comes from getting gradually more powerful over the course of the game. The boss fights were also really fun, most enemies having multiple phases before finally beating them in a one on one fight. I do think this game can improve in some ways. For starters, they force you to play in fullscreen, and I would prefer a windowed mode as an option. Finding out how to use specials was a bit strange as well because the game doesn't explain it. You have to hold down Y then press the direction of your choice to make it work. After I learned how to do it, it was easy enough, but the information was not well articulated in the game and has caused some players to actually get stuck at the tutorial! This game also has a lot of gross humour, which is not everyone's cup of tea, so just be aware of that. There are better beat em up titles out there, but if you want an inexpensive and quick source of fun and can handle some roughness, give Bully Beatdown a try!
