It's been a bit since I played this but I always like simple puzzle games and this one was enough of a familiar formula with a few twists that I would recommend it to any puzzle gamer

Laser-reflecting puzzle games have existed since the 1980s and the only thing that obviously separates Archaica from those is amazing graphics. Thankfully there is solid design underneath. The level design is tight and the hint system is excellent. Puzzles often challenged me even after discovering the stands for all devices, because hints don't reveal WHICH device goes in each spot, or how to angle them. The graphics were occasionally distracting but overall I had more fun with Archaica than I thought I would. I only have two complaints: 1. The story is a vague, cryptic pile of nothing, delivered piecemeal for no good reason. 2. There's no post-game content. After completing the game I was ready for a super challenge, but alas, I walked home sad with all achievements. The game's not short, but I think a few extra-hard puzzles would've gone a long way. 8/10

Accidentally played for three hours when I meant to boot it up for a quick minute. That's a sign of a good puzzle game.

Archaia: The Path of Light. Is exactly what it seems a puzzle that allows you to use your skills to get to the finish line but not without a nice challenge. With beautiful grahics and interesting view angles you might as well play this game for a few hours. Although there are some minor cons. Music can get irritating repetitvely or make you sleepy. I suggest using your own music libary if this occurs. Overall I've enjoyed the game with all achievements almost complete and I look forward to see what comes next.

I rarely review games. Only if a game really excels in what it sets out to do I feel I have to give my 2 cents. Archaica is without a doubt such a game because it does everything it wants to achieve in a mesmerising way. Archaica is a light redirection puzzle game. It contains 87 separate puzzles that split into 6 chapters with a total of

68 campaign puzzles, and
19 side quest puzzles.
The player is gradually made familiar with the basic puzzle mechanics in the first chapter and more intricate mechanics are introduced in the following chapters. Generally speaking you have to direct light beams of different colors through crystals of the same color by using mirrors, splitters, filters, etc. As to the difficulty curve, I'd say that starting from chapter 3 puzzles are getting pretty hard to solve even though some may be less difficult. Each puzzle of Archaica is very well designed. Your goal is clearly defined and most of the time I had a pretty good understanding of how the light has to be directed in general. Puzzleing therefore mostly consisted of trying to make this general solution work with the limited resources available. It follows that in many cases, finding the actual solution resulted in a very rewarding experience. I never had to resort to fundamental trial and error which is also due to a hint system that perfectly fits my needs. Almost all puzzles have so-called cells hidden in them. Each cell you find allows for a hint to the puzzle. And for a hint you have to select a couple of neighboring squares in the puzzle area and the game will show you in which of these fields you have to place one of your puzzle items ... not which item though. So hints only very gently nudge you into the right direction. Further things to look for in the puzzles are so-called cryptoglyphs. Most puzzles have between two and four of these items hidden around the puzzle area. If you find all of them, you will get some explanations as to the background and the items of Archaica. Which brings me to the 'story' of the game: generally, when you solve a puzzle you will get background information about the history of Archaica or about the Path of Light that you, the player, are wandering on. In my opinion, those text bits add to the feel of the game but I can appreciate that some might find them superfluous, after all they are quite generic. Finally, and quite importantly, the game has beautiful visuals that perfectly support the feeling of intrigue when solving the puzzles. There are deserts, caves, fiery pits, jungles, and more. Having said all that, Archaica stands out amongst all light redirection puzzles I've played and I have played quite a lot. So my advice to any lover of puzzle games is to get it right away, it is well worth it's price! If you think 15€ is too much get it in the next sale.

Really solid puzzle game. The puzzles themselves are very nicely crafted and very logical, no bullshit gotchas or tricks. Most of the puzzles have solutions that are unique (at least up to some trivial adjustments), and you can usually logically deduce what the solution needs to be, rather than just messing around until something works. I'm a big fan of this type of logical puzzle design as it feels a lot more satisfying to solve! I found the narrative to be pointless but you can ignore it; it doesn't get in the way at all. There is a clever little hidden object minigame if you get bored.

You don't get much better when it comes to laser puzzles. Vibrant world, lore, hidden object elements, lots of tools to play around with... only complaint is the "beam length" mechanic is extremely unintuitive at times. Still, definitely worth it.

The good: Great puzzle game. The puzzles is this game are good enough that I recommend it despite the technical issues, once those are fixed, I'd give it a 9/10. The puzzles are beautifully designed, and when you finally sovle them the solution is almost always elegant. The story feels a bit tacked on, making this a bit weaker than a similar game like the Talos Principle but the asethetic is nice and the quality of the game play more than makes up for it (the actual puzzles in this game are, in my opinion, better than in Talos Principle). The bad (THIS BUG HAS BEEN FIXED, THANK YOU!): the "Temples" realm there is a huge problem with the game crashing frequently. There are certain mirror configurations that crash the game every time, making it very frustrating to play. My guess is that most of the other reviewers here did not actually play through the entire game to completion. I did manage to play around the crashes and completed all the achievements but it was frustrating. Crashes on levels like Wuthering Monastery are 100% reproduceable and happen in specific mirror configurations across multiple computers. Also the game has no loading screen so it basically freezes for ~5 seconds every time I select a level or when I launch the game.

Absolutely recommended! If you enjoy puzzles, hidden object games, and enjoy needed to actually use your brain to figure things out... this game may be for you. An interesting twist on the HOPA genre- where the puzzles take the spotlight, and the hidden object are "extras", instead of the other way around. The game is not simple and easy. At least, not if you solve the puzzles yourself. I recommend not using any guides or walkthroughs, work the logic puzzles out, slowly, restart if needed. There is no rush, no need to have perfect timing and you can reset the puzzles if needed. There are hints, which is one of the reasons you want to find some of the hidden objects, to charge the hints up. I used none, but I also restarted a number of puzzles when I became flustered by them. Relax, play at your own pace. This is more than the average laser-and-mirrors minigame from a typical HOPA game. The mirrors have different shapes, that reflect the light differently, other pieces teleport the light, store it, change the color of it, ect. the progression of difficulty in the puzzles is mostly linear, and well paced, no huge or dramatic jumps in difficulty. The game allows you to get used to each new element with an easier puzzle when a new piece is introduced, then the progression steps back to where it was. It felt smooth, a nice slope to the difficulty and the learning curve. The art is gorgeous, Simple graphics, that look amazing. The music and audio is appropriate, dramatic to mark a solve, ambient, setting a mood. But--- good news for Deaf and Hard Of Hearing players... NO audio needed to play and enjoy the game. There are no audio cues that must be noticed to solve the puzzles or progress. No spoken story, all of the story comes as text, concise, and not too wordy, during and after puzzles. You will need to read, nt a ton, but you will need to read, There are elements that are small, the hidden objects are well hidden at times, so the game may not be as good for gamers with vision issues. Within the game itself (not the launcher screen), the Options menu had good options for adjusting sound and graphics, but not a long list of things. The game runs well on a toaster, I ran o it on a Win7 64 bit Pro machine, AMD -4130 FX, NVIDIA 740 GT. The game ran smooth, no hitching or stuttering, the only "bug" I had was the ambient background music cutting out during a puzzle, unable to find repro steps, and it would come back if I restarted the puzzle or when I moved on to the next one. The story is a bit somber, the world is in ruins, and you are there to save it. The text-only story is well written, and not overly wordy. the ending felt a bit rushed or abrupt, but it fit the storyline. Just felt like there may have been a few details that got left out, or did not translate well from Polish to English. Other than the sending, the story was quite good for a game like this. 13 hours was my full playthrough, with 100% achievements unlocked. Yours may go faster or slower. I took my time. No guides or walkthroughs used, either one would likely cut your playtime down a good bit. My opinion? It is worth full price, a bargain if you get it on sale for a deep discount. Unless you don't like puzzle games. :)
