Seeing only one review for Yono, and considering it wasn't from a purchased-through-Steam copy, I figured I'd leave my thoughts as a normal buyer. I am just about an hour into the game and I'll update my review if I have any major reason as I go. Yono oozes charm from the moment you launch the game. The menu is colorful and the short intro sequence is well done. There aren't many settings to adjust, but it all worked right out of the gate with my DS4 controller. The game does a good job walking you through the mechanics, and right as I thought it was at risk of annoying me with help I was set off on my own to find my way. This would be a great game for kids. It's colorful, it's friendly and at no point has it been frustrating or unfair. I'm playing it at a relaxed pace and am enjoying exploring and interacting with whatever I notice in the moment. At an hour of gameplay I've just reached the second city, and if I'm paying attention I'd guess I'm about 20 percent through what I know about. If you plan on rushing through the game I don't think there's going to be enough to justify the full price, but if you're like me you'll get more than your money's worth. As far as challenge goes, I figured the puzzles would be a breeze but I managed to get caught in a loop early on because I didn't realize there were two paths through a section. Now I'm already wondering if I missed earlier optional routes. There is a definite potential for depth. In summary, if you're looking for a relaxing and fun game that will cheer you up, but isn't difficult, this is a solid purchase for the price.

How can a game so short feel so tedious at times? Yono is an undeniably cute game, and I love watching your baby elephant avatar (in every sense of the word) cavort around in various skins and costumes. The writing is at times thoughtful and thought-provoking, but the gameplay loop itself is sorely lacking. Combat is an unrewarding chore, and the puzzles, while inventive at times, become repetitive all too quickly. The biggest draw of the game is that you get to play a baby elepehant, and in that, it delivers. But everything else is, unfortunately, nothing to trumpet about. Buy it when it's peanuts.

Hello friends! I am writing this review since i just beat Yono and the Celestial Elephants. Basically, this game is a cute puzzler game with rpg elements. You play as a young elephant celestial being and go around helping people. You travel to different area's and do quests to help people. There are also unlockable custom skins you can buy and even find health upgrades. Anyways, here is my pro/con list: PROS: -Cutesy graphics -Interesting concept and original -Unlockable skins -Health Upgrades -Puzzles CONS: -No achievements for the game -There are bugs with certain quests. For example, if you try to finish the exchange quest after beating the game, you cannot get all the items due to one of the characters being in prison. Recommended for puzzle fun and cutesy graphics. The idea of playing as a celestial being to help people is new for me, so i find the game interesting for this concept.

There's two major things to judge this game on, gameplay and atmosphere. Both of them are for babies, but like, mentally advanced babies. Gameplay consists of moving from screen to screen, each screen consisting of a self-contained puzzle of sorts. Puzzles consist of box-pushing and "use metaphorical key X in metaphorical lock Y so that you can access literal key A to open literal lock B". Puzzles kinda sorta get more complex as the game goes on, but solving them always follows this game general line of thought, and usually there's only one functional action you can take in any given puzzle at any given time, so even if you can't logic it out ahead of time, you can generally stumble your way through it with enough time investment. To put it another way, puzzles require the same general type of deductive thinking as puzzles in something like The Talos Principle, except you wouldn't give the Talos Principle to a six-year-old, you would give them Yono so that they're ready to play Talos Principle when they're a little older. Regarding the game's atmosphere, you can probably tell from the video that everything in the game is adorable, and that generally follows along with the story where nothing particularly dire ever happens. I mean, threats to world peace or whatever, but not anything more extreme than you would see on a Nickelodeon cartoon. But what's weird about this game is that a lot of the characters you talk to will ponder on life philosophy. Like, you have cartoon skeletons questioning the meaning of a life based on material goods, and you have cartoon robots wondering if life is more or less "free" whether you are born with a given purpose or without one. It's nothing revolutionary or anything, but it goes pretty deep for a game that's clearly written for a younger audience. So once again, I have to come back around to saying "It's like The Talos Principle, but for babies." Will adults like it? Well... Personally, I thought the gameplay was tedious after a while. There was never any question to what direction the story was going, either, though I was generally wondering what weird thing the next random NPC was going to talk about. I guess it comes down to how cute you think that elephant is. It's a REALLY cute elephant.

While this game is far too easy, it's clear that I'm not the target demographic. The game is solid without a single bug to be found, has nice visuals, and a cute story. I'd easily recommend this for young children. Avoid it if you're over 10 though (unless, like me, you're looking for a happy game to cheer you up during a bout of depression).

Recommended only on sale, due to a couple fundamental problems with this game. First, if you're going to be a kids game, be a kids game. I appreciate some over-their-head dialogue here and there, but frequently the character interactions are so philosophical (as advertised in the game description) that I'd feel awkward watching young people play this. Are robots really just slaves? A fair question, but I think it narrows the audience. Second, puzzles can't be consistently reset despite being pointed out explicitly to the developer. This is mainly an issue with a puzzle that uses an ice block (which has caused some players to abandon the game entirely), although I observed several other puzzles also not resetting correctly when re-zoning per dev's instructions. Other minor issues like occasional typos, wild collision bugs, and lack of cloud saves you can probably look the other way on, but in the end I was disappointed this game wasn't great. I really liked the relatively easy puzzles but not that they can break. I liked the way that you unlock "letters" toward optional game lore but not the typos. I liked the characters and wanted to learn more about them and I liked all the adorable costumes you could unlock for Yono, but the characters ended up totally flat and you sometimes had to return to earlier vendors to switch back to costumes you purchased. For every positive here there's a negative, so best I'd only recommend this when on sale.

It's oddly tedious to play, partly because of the dodgy keyboard controls that I shouldn't have been using (although ... refer to footnote), but mostly because the game doesn't really have an identity of it's own gameplay-wise. It's got puzzles, block pushing and lever pulling ones. It's got combat, very standard and easy combat. And it's got some dialogue that while occasionally entertaining isn't enough to really justify playing this when I still haven't read Nausicaa. Footnote: Really devs, if you just let us use the Q and E keys to turn 45 degrees the keyboard controls would be fine. Or even if you just widened the window for releasing two directional keys at once. Or maybe they'd have worked fine if I used the lock-on feature. I guess we'll never know.

The game seems aimed at very young players. There's really nothing to the combat, and the puzzles are very basic. The story isn't particularly enthralling either. However the game is colorful and you're an elephant, so it's got that going for it.

I got Yono on sale and really enjoyed it. It is really adorable and charming puzzle game. I can see how it could be considered tedious or too easy, but I think it's a short and perfect game for when you want to relax and play something simple. Pros: + Colorful and cute graphics + Many different elephant skins to choose from without needing to grind + Easy to 100% when it comes to getting coins, letters, and sidequests. Cons: - Not necessarily negative, but this game is definitely better played with a controller than a keyboard. - Found that the doors were a little sensitive, so a few times, I'd end up in the next room if I was too close to the door which would reset my puzzle progress. - Pretty short game, so I'm glad I got this on sale, but I guess if it were any longer, it'd be too repetitive.

I want to praise this game, but there are some design choices that make this game really irritating to play. I can see that the devs tried hard on this game and wanted to pay homage to several action/adventure titles, while keeping their own personality and flair; I appreciate that. Now, I first started playing with keyboard and mouse, which made the game pretty clunky. Yono the Elephant is tricky to position right with just the four directional keys, so I recommend playing with a controller if you can. It helps a little bit, but not much. Unfortunately, the hit detection in this game and some of the hitboxes are really poorly programmed form what I've noticed, which makes hitting pots, headbutting shelves and attacking enemies really annoying. Yono is such a large entity compared to his surroundings, so if you walk along any bridges or short walkways, you have to be so careful. Sometimes, the armoured rat enemies will be positioned right where there are traps, so if you miss an attack because of poor hit detection (like my issues), you will die over and over again. My next complaint is a tiny one compared to everything else, but it got on my nerves nonetheless. There is so much dialogue in this game. SO MUCH! If you really like to read, then go ahead, but the story kind of felt dry to me, so I just kept skipping and skipping and skipping the dialogue whenever it showed up, which made a certain city's fetch quest bonanza pretty annoying at first. My third and final complaint is what made me uninstall the game. Woolly Mountain! There is an ice block puzzle (no one likes ice block puzzles) and, if you do it wrong, you get softlocked. Apparently, if you leave and come back, some puzzles reset themselves and this is supposed to be one of them, but there's a bug. People have tried to come up with fixes and I've tried a couple of them, but they didn't work. The only one I haven't tried requires you to go into the game files and change some things, but I'd rather not risk breaking the game further. All in all, this game is charming and there was some real effort here, but it just lacks the right proportions and programming to iron out all the kinks. If you really want to play it, I recommend buying it on a sale like I did, but if I'm gonna get softlocked so late in the game, I wouldn't want to pay full price for this.
