  The feelings that Salthe, as an obscure adult visual novel game, evokes in me far exceed expectations. Bizarre and exaggerated, filled with suspense, and while dark, it manages to provide players with a remarkable impact. It's hard to imagine that such a game in the adult genre could deliver such a shock. The game is set in the Middle Ages, with an overall style that is both bizarre and exaggerated, and a plot full of suspense. The relatively short game script effectively stimulates players' curiosity before the novelty disappears. Once accustomed, the initially flamboyant voice acting and artistic style contribute to an expressive gaming experience. With ample twists, well-laid foundations, and sufficiently skilled scripts, combined with unexpectedly excellent writing, the in-depth portrayal of characters makes the plot progress seamlessly. After skillfully revealing foreshadowing, it genuinely provides players with a satisfying and memorable experience that seems cliché yet maintains a certain level of quality. The game's overall style leans towards the dark, rife with scenes of cruelty and humiliation. The storytelling in the early to middle stages can be overly fragmented and obscure, with riddles and mysteries galore. Some plot holes and a lack of rigorous logic may disappoint some players and leave them feeling misled. Curtains fall, leaving emptiness behind. The story of Salthe is both a comedy and a tragedy. To the audience, it's a comedy; to the protagonist, it's a tragedy. If you are deeply interested in this style of narrative and can accept the game's brutal sexual depictions, you might have a relatively good gaming experience. Similarly, spoilers would spell a devastating blow to the gaming experience, so make sure to avoid any degree of spoilers.

  Still don't know if I should make this review negative or positive. Let's say this is positive review for Salthe as for h-vn. And that doesn't mean it's a good h-vn, but this one have some mystery, theater and kind of plot, so if you want some porn not about "well we talked for 5 min now let's have sex", then you can pay your attention on Salthe. Characters never shut up in h-scenes, and soon h-scenes just become boring cuz this is the same humilation dialogues over and over again. If you want to see something similar but with better quality I can recommend you to try Dead End Aegis, which is in times better than Salthe in both main plot and h-scenes. The sound of copulation, or "thrusting" too slow, and desynchronized with seiyu(voice actor) voice, so I had to turn it off at some point. But CG's are good and main heroine seiyu is professional with impressive amount of works, so you can enjoy her high-lvl voice acting. As about everything else like story, characters etc I don't have anything new to add that wasn't in other reviews. 5.5\10.

  I honestly did not read the warnings as well as I should have. The torture and rape scenes were a bit too much for me. I still believe for the story alone the game is worth its price. It unfolds like a play and it was very engaging after Kloun shows up. There are a few spelling mistakes like "Bu" instead of "But", it doesn't distract from the overall story though.I don't believe this game is for me, but it might be an interesting read for someone else.

But now I realize... it's a f‎u‎c‎king comedy."[/i] - Princess Salthe of Mersin Poor, abused princess who only ever wanted to be an insufferable theatre kid goes full Joker mode after a gratuitous amount of time is spent on her and her best friend being betrayed, r‎a‎p‎ed, and tortured over and over and over again. Filled to bursting with text, r‎a‎p‎e, torture, text, r‎a‎p‎e, humiliation, text, r‎a‎p‎e, mindbreak, a little more text, a lot more r‎a‎p‎e, and even some gore, this isn't for the faint of heart, and if there's a more pretentious, depressing, and long-winded eroge out there, I've yet to play it. Which is to say, I loved this, a‎nd need more.

  Salthe was a promising story concept, but ultimately a revolting foray into torture porn and rape fantasy. I seriously question the intended audience for this VN. All of the characters ended up being hateful, and at the end I had no idea what the meaning of it all was. What was I supposed to take away from this story? The world is full of horrible people? [spoiler]Everyone but Jean and Marie died, and no one got what they wanted.[/spoiler] I don't read fiction to experience that--I read it to escape from that, or understand something more about the human condition. This story was completely meaningless and vile. If you must play this VN, I DO NOT recommend the 18+ patch. It adds absolutely nothing. It's simply CG after CG of graphic rape. Someone actually created those CGs and wrote the accompanying voluminous text. Think on that for a moment. That is not the kind of eroge anyone should enjoy. Who even cares all the characters are over 18? That doesn't make rape or sexual torture okay. Spoilers from here on regarding story: [spoiler]This entire story could have had a very simple solution that left everyone but Salome happy. All Salthe had to do was kill Salome and take her place as queen of Mersin. Garnier could have ruled through her, while she supported Marie and continued the only thing that mattered to her--acting. The people of Mersin would have been none the wiser, and the king would have been too senile to even notice. Very few people knew Salthe was a body double. Jean knew, but would he have been so unhappy over Salome's death? He knew she was an abusive ****.[/spoiler] None of the gratuitous rape or torture was necessary. The only plot necessity was for Salthe to die, but because of that constraint, this is the warped and disturbing VN we got. What a tragic (not the least bit comedic) shame--this story could have been so much better without trying so hard to be "dark" and "edgy."

  Brilliant script writing, but definitely NOT suit everyone. You will experience [i]RAPE SCENE AFTER RAPE SCENE[/i] and plentiful of torture scenes. You may think it is only good of this VN but no, there is more in the the story than just to show audiences these sickening scenes. If you can tolerate dark and disturbing story, you may find this show of 'heroine of tragedy' worth your time. But if you are in state of emotional depression or some sort like that, I highly advise AGAINST this show.

  [h1]Salthe is a game that leaves me wondering if the hentai formula was used properly.[/h1] Let me say at first that the game wasn't looking like +18 title based on trailer, more of a mystery drama. What I saw inside the game... Well without a doubt, these were hardcore h-scenes. What is your definition of fun? Hentai mixed with medieval torture horrors? Do you like sadism, besides everyday adultery with cute princesses? This game got you covered. [u]The amount of adultery is over 50% of this game content along with dark results of your choices[/u]. Meanwhile story and proposed mystery... Story is just here because it can. It's not very developed neither concerning... it is the biggest fault here. I have nothing against gore scenes... but if the whole visual novel is about living in a prison with just a bit post mortem theatre, then we have a problem. Dialogues with Kloun are great he is mysterious leader of the whole scenery. Oh, and Marie on the other hand, she is certainly an idiot. I just can't even imagine how much empty her head must be. I can't feel into this game. It's just flat in so many places, and the way story is developing is like... rolling up an extension cord. [u]Whatever happens, you know that it will happen, and you mostly know how it will happen[/u]. The only fun of unknown is the next torture device... you cannot predict these at least. I am most certainly disappointed. There is nothing more than a just simple sadistic story, filled with hentai and torture h-scenes. The way this game looks and plays with words and voice acting was giving me a hope for something out-standing, but it's all for nothing. Here it's just hentai with mosaics. [u]Even though the game is a nice product... I still believe it has wasted potential, which I cannot forgive.[/u]

  I was rather pissed with the first hours of playthrough due to the amount of unecessary rape scenes there were. I skipped through most of them because honestly, this is not something enjoyable to read. And it shouldn't be at any circunstance. At some points of the story I do understand the use of rape as a plot device, but how it's depicted is another problem entirely. I made the mistake of downloading the patch as I was unaware that the mature content they censored was rape. This is a trigger warning so no one goes unprapared as I did. THIS STORY CONTAINS A LOT OF RAPE SCENES. ★ Story The main plot is good, the story is interesting enough to make me skip through loads of disturbing scenes to get to the part that really does matters in the story. Some of the character build they do is on the rape scenes, but the little I read, I just wasn't about to keep reading such things, I'd rather skip it and read the rest of the plot which as actually nicely built. The first half had A LOT of unecessary scenes that could have been cut and would make no difference. They could have built this plot so much better, they had room for a way more structured story, with scenes other than hours of disturbingly disgusting rape. This gets A LOT better through the second half, once you experience how the story twists and you finally achieve the truth about this heartless, tragic world. The main problem with Salthe for me is that they could have achieved the same brilliance in their plot twist without having the player experience such displeasure on the first half. ★ Characters Humans, so very humans. This is definetely a tale about how complex humans are. About theirs desires, dreams, about loneliness, emptiness, hatred and how those things perform in the real, crude world. What war truly means for the women, how monstrous can humans become after faced with such cruelty. The characters are nicely build. ★ Art & Music The art is outstandingly pretty, very nicely done. The music is mostly okay. I give this novel a 7.5/10 due to the things I mentioned before. As for why I don't recommend it, obviously because of the disturbing amount of rape scenes. Specially for a girl, this is not something pleasant to read through. Even skipping through it was bad enough. A good story, with a lot of potential that loses so much to the excessive amount of disturbing scenes.

  This game was disappointing. I feel the plot could have been handled better, to me it just felt kind of flat. It wasn't terrible, but if I could tell my past self whether or not to play this game, I'd tell them not to.

  I'm afraid this game's plot isn't very good. It has some of the worst twists that I have seen. Besides, Salthe, the protagonist, didn't even need to die. She's killed by Garnier, just because... in an earlier scene, she didn't kill him off for good. ALWAYS make sure your enemy is truly dead. I guess even protags -though this girl is hardly a heroine- need to read the Good Tyrant's Handbook. Also, all the suffering and R-word serves little purpose other than to make the story more salacious, and an 18+ eroge. I guess this game is truly aimed to sadists. Overall, disappointing.
