The game was designed to be winnable in under an hour while still retaining the deep gameplay and wealth of content that the genre is famous for. While very challenging at times, every run is ultimately winnable and a true test of player skill and knowledge.

    General Information: - 20 to 90 min runs - Turn-Based Rogue-like - Best part is outsmarting/figuring out difficult situations or breaking the game - 10 classes & 8 races (any combination of class/race is possible, though not every is strong) - Playable with only mouse though keyboard + mouse is preferable - Pictures in the community hub/store page are heavily outdated, as are most reviews due to the game getting a lot of updates Good: - High skill ceiling (the game can be beaten without getting hit once) - Many viable/powerful playing styles (though you will not instantly feel it) - No random bullshit, almost any run can be won (- Easy to modify and understand code) Bad: - Small community (small modding scene, no big youtubers, etc) - A few bugs due to still being in development - Difficult to pick up and too easy once you master it (though you can always use the few mods available to make it harder) (- Graphics) For anyone curious I actually have closer to 200 hours in the game, its just that most of them were spent playing a modded version. :P

    Very nice and compact classical rougelike. A full playthrough takes me about 90 minutes, but different Class/Race combinations plus random talent drops keep it interesting and allow for a few different builds. What makes this game great and had me sink hundreds of hours in it is the well polished mechanics. Everything feels fair, and you can predict clearly what is going to happen next round when stepping here or striking there (in fact, there is a series of impressive no-hit runs on yt, look up the channel of Random595). Overall, it's not an evening filling game, but always good for an hour or two. For me it was well worth the ten bucks.

    Fun Rogue-like that started life on Kongregate. If you like the genre you'll find enjoyment here. Worth a buy even if not on sale.

    Easily one of the best games I've played, doesn't take a lot of ram either, so even the slowest pc can play this without problems. Playstyle is rather simple to learn yet hard to master, and you quickly get yourself lost in time playing.

    Fun traditional roguelike with lots of interacting mechanics and surprising twists to keep you on your toes. I felt that "build diversity" - such as it is - is not very strong in Rogue Fable III. Although every character ends up different, and there are (random) myriad opportunities to branch out into unusual skills for a particular class, there isn’t a ton of player agency to it and I mostly felt like I needed to pray that RNG worked out. For example, if I randomly find a bunch of +mana items on my warrior, then it would be nice to find some way to take advantage of that. In the game as it is, I have to either sell the items (boring), or hold on to the items and pray that I find a Tome of Knowledge or skill book that will give me skills that use mana. Now, Tomes of Knowledge are common enough – I think you are basically guaranteed to find a couple per run – so maybe this isn’t a huge deal. But even if you find a Tome of Knowledge, there’s no guarantee (I think) that a mana-using skill will be in there… The very last dungeon tends to be a little grindy, even for strong characters. I like the difficulty and I understand the need to force characters to use some of their consumables before the final boss, but having the same encounter over and over and over in the final stages of the dungeon was not interesting. Anyway, these are mostly just reflections, not criticisms. This is a very addictive, fun game and every run feels different, like a proper roguelike. The classes and races aren’t super unique or awe-inspiring, but the gargoyle, mummy, vampire, and (my favourite) fairy are quite distinctive and have a nice vibe to them. With the exception of the rogue class (which seems to be mostly built around running away?), I love the way this game handles dexterity and speed. It feels great to build a highly mobile character here, which is not a common experience in a turn-based game. You will be running circles around enemies, bouncing off of the tough ones and zipping around frontliners so you can assassinate squishy backliners in the blink of an eye. I love the way the Duelist class works through what is essentially “melee kiting” – words don’t do it justice, but it feels wonderful in game. In this light, my favourite combo is probably Fairy Ranger, which is definitely up there with Ogre Warrior as one of the most obvious pairings in the game - but it really feels fantastic due to the Fairy's naturally high dexterity. True glass cannon, as mobile and flexible as a bird in flight, and a lot of fun to play. Overall, a good roguelike and well worth the money.

    I think the hours speak for themselves here, but some highlights: -High replay value (standard for Roguelikes in general, but some of them lack content; this game does not lack content) -Good build versatility (uses a 3 ability score system to determine which talents your character can take, multiclassing is not only viable but encouraged to a degree) -Mostly fair gameplay (attacks are designed to be avoidable, and it's very unlikely you'll encounter a situation that you couldn't have escaped from via better play) -Streamlines a lot of things that older Roguelikes would make clunky (ie, you open doors by touching them, not by pressing the "open door key", "look at" is automatic by hovering the mouse over a tile, etc.) Drawbacks: -Repetitive music (the main dungeon has 1 track that is used for 75% of it, and 3 out of 6 side dungeons share their song as well) -Achievements are catered to hard core players (it's POSSIBLE to beat the game without taking damage, but so ridiculously difficult it might as well not be for all but the best of players) -Dexterity is grossly overpowered (Evasion is blatantly superior to all other forms of defense, despite lower damage the range and versatility of talents for Bows make them better than a lot of options, and the concept of Sprint Points, while unique, is agreed to be "too good" by most if not all veteran players). Overall, do recommend, it's worth the $10.

    I'm a game designer - if Rogue Fable III wasn't quality work I'd not be writing this. I played the free version on Kongregate for 3 years and got quite good at it, eventually winning with all classes in under 45 and getting 5 in a row once. I bought this one to see what it had evolved into and support you. For the most part enjoy it a lot, but the challenge level is - in two words - too extreme. I've won once, so I know it's possible. But I only made it when I min-maxed a class/race combo, and played it several times until everything went my way for drops, buys, and skills. My second best (daily challenge) I did so well I padded my certain victory by beating two side branches and going to the sealed gate with 3 tokens and all the leveling and loot gained getting them. I was killed in the first area. I'm writing this because I just lost in The Core (after leveling all the way to the gate...I didn't just jump in at low level) with good armor, fire protection, reflection, quality melee, armor piercing ranged, ability to fly over lava, a lot of skills, and using up all of a major summoning item and every healing I had - because Fire Elementals and their infinite exploding MOBs are too absurdly powerful. Looking at your achievements list, I'm not seeing how most are even possible (without cheats). I love this game but it is not "challenging" - challenges are winnable without a min-maxed character and an overabundance of lucky breaks. This is a solid Rogue-deadly challenge getting built up to dive for token #2. After that it's just losing over and over. I like your game but the high level MOBs need rebalanced. The free version is a better game - I'll probably go back to it until I see an update.

    Meh. I had some fun, but replayability is actually pretty low. Once you know what is happening it is all a bit formulaic. Current run I am right near the final boss, and I just don't care about finishing. I already know I will win, and I'm not super interested in doing the last few fights. I don't care about doing speedruns. Game doesn't even save my past runs correctly (bug). And none of the achievements get unlocked (bug). Sorta worth playing, but I don't know about all the raving positive reviews...
