Lamentum 遊戲特點

Guide Victor Hartwell, a young aristocrat on a desperate journey to cure the deadly disease that afflicts his beloved wife, Alissa. Their last hope resides in the darkened halls of Grau Hill Mansion whose Earl has uncovered ancient secrets and forgotten sciences. He claims he can heal Alissa, but… at what price? Grau Hill mansion will open its doors and immerse you in a world of nightmares where you may be trapped forever.

Lamentum is a pixel art survival-horror game set in New England in the mid-nineteenth century. To solve the dark secret at the heart of Grau Hill Mansion, you will have to immerse yourself in a nightmare world full of terrible creatures.

Choose well in whom to trust, every decision you make may alter the course of the story.

Will you survive?

Lamentum is inspired by classic survival horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill along with cosmic horror masterpieces, especially the Cthulhu mythos.

Lamentum is a dark and adult-themed game, in which the player can enjoy classic survival-horror gameplay.

Lamentum is a classic survival horror, so our protagonist will attain different weapons and tools during his stay at Grau Hill Mansion.

Victor will need a lamp to see in the dark, to use lock picks to open sealed doors and chests and use restoratives to recover his health. A myriad of other tools will be needed to forge a path through this twisting nightmare world.

To defend against the dangers that haunt him, Victor will have many melee and ranged weapons at his disposal.

Each weapon is different and has unique strengths and weaknesses. Choosing your weapon carefully is essential to survival.

Firearms provide a huge advantage due to their range, but they consume ammunition, a resource that is scarce in Grau Hill Mansion.

Many items may be hidden at first, use your ingenuity to find them.

You can play Lamentum with keyboard and mouse (in the PC version) or use a gamepad.

Your inventory is limited, and you will have to choose which objects to carry at each moment. In certain places you can use the item box to store objects for later use.

Our inventory system allows you to create shortcuts to frequently used objects.

This system allows players, for example, to quickly switch between a melee weapon, a ranged weapon and a potion, making combat more agile and effective.

In addition, we can consult a diary that will record the thoughts and annotations of our protagonist.

The world of Lamentum is full of nightmare creatures, each of them with different behaviors and attacks.

Creatures are not the only danger in Grau Hill Mansion, there are traps that will reward your ingenuity or punish your mistakes with death, dangerous puzzles, and lethal environments.

During your nightmarish journey you will meet other characters and strange beings. Think carefully about who you trust and who you don’t… every decision you make can have important consequences.

Lamentum will have different endings depending on Victor’s decisions during the game. We want Lamentum to be a replayable experience and a challenge to obtain the best possible end.

A fantastic eldritch journey. I really enjoyed my time with Lamentum. The 8-bit graphics are well done, and the monster design is wonderfully twisted. The game manages to focus on some dark themes of loss, faith, and regret, and I think it does a good job while doing so. I enjoyed each of the characters and their stories, and finding different secrets and endings. If you'd like to spend a few hours with poor Victor as he tries to escape this nightmare and rescue his wife, I'd say it's worth your time.

EDIT: Still gets a thumbs up but it gets overly tedious towards the end. Very slowly moving several blocks back and forth to solve a puzzle. Large areas with no map and strong enemies taking numerous hits from your slow weapons. Finding new weapons never felt like a real upgrade. Does more damage? Also slower recovery so you're more open to counter attacks. Speaking of the map, it could use some more info on it. Hope you remember where that one room with the puzzle was at because if you don't it's a lot of door to door searching. Resident Evil had distinctive and memorable locations to help you remember/recognize where to go. Silent Hill had the character make notes on the map. This has neither (and crossing out a couple symbols is NOT what I'm talking about). Best to take screenshots or pictures on your cell phone for quick reference. Oh, and don't forget about the mother fucking shovel. Gotta go digging for one of the late game puzzles. 7.5/10 __________________________________________________________________ Enjoyable 2D throwback to classic survival horror. Themed keys opening corresponding doors, puzzles that may leave you running around looking for the solution and limited supplies (and inventory space) to deal with nasty enemies. Great art style and sound design. My only real negative is that being in 2D removes a bit of the spooky factor. Well worth the asking price for fans of old school survival horror. If you're unsure, try the demo! The save carries over to the main game.

Ultimately, I'll leave this game a positive review because I know how much time and effort the devs put into this, but I really hope they read this review. I'll try my best to be spoiler-free, but I have some very specific complaints about this game. The first half of this game is fantastic. Moody, Gothic, and very Lovecraftian, this game reminds me of the original Resident Evil in many ways, with a gradually-opening mansion, limited inventory and saves, and magic inventory chests in save rooms. That's a net positive, and if the game had stayed that way, I would've given it an unqualified recommendation. Unfortunately after [SPOILER] The Mirror, the games' real issues begin to rear their ugly heads. So, combat. It's not the game's best aspect, but it wasn't a particularly nasty issue until the latter half of the game. Combat includes the following elements: -Bait-and-punish tactics -Slow movement and even slower attack speed -You cannot run away infinitely -Hit Boxes are wildly inconsistent -Enemy (and player) knock-back and/or stun is completely random -Sometimes enemies take a random amount of hits to kill -Some enemies move faster than you This wasn't an issue in the first half of the game, where combat was largely an optional way to get through rooms with less hassle, but the second half of the game basically demands you fight your way through. If I could have run away infinitely, if the enemies were slower than me, or if combat were better, this wouldn't have been an issue. As it stood, combined with the limited saves, the second half of the game was an effort in extreme frustration. I eventually only beat the game out of angry defiance, and I don't intend to play it again, knowing I'll have to go through the second half. Additionally, the story, while genuinely great, is lacking in certain elements. [SPOILERS] Though I haven't gotten the 'S' Rank ending, I felt that what I was subjected to was fairly poorly explained. Who is "She?" What was it that we did in the beginning? How was the ritual screwed up? Who is the grim-reaper woman with the corpse in her arms? There's a lot of questions the game just flagrantly never answers; by the time I fought the last boss, I had little to no idea what the last room had to do with anything, really. I was paying pretty close attention to the story, but it seems like it just...ended. A greater information drip would be greatly appreciated. Finally, the items. I was keeping a pretty even-pace with the inventory for much of the game, but by the end of it, I was sitting on a heart pendant, a doll, a wedding ring, two teeth, two mysterious coins, and several other items that I just had no clue where to use, as well as several places (such as a basement elevator) just unexplorable. I've heard that random digging with the shovel helps find more teeth, but their uses, if any, are extremely obscure. I felt as though I'd truly scoured the map, yet my inventory was chock-full of unused items. And Laudenum seems to fill your health entirely up whether it's a full bottle or half of one, making me wonder why they bother giving different quantities. Look, perhaps 100% of this is subjective and entirely on me. But as it stands, while I would definitely recommend the game to anyone looking for a Lovecraftian Gothic tale, at present the game feels oddly incomplete. I think the devs needs to take a serious look particularly at the combat, and decide whether they want their game to be a survival horror or an action game, because it's extremely frustrating when it's trying to be both.

I liked the demo so much that I bought the game once it released. Now I finally got to play it. What started off interesting and good , went to not so good and confusing. I had hoped that the story would kind of make sense in the end, but after playing it I know as much as I knew after 2hours playtime. The gameplay consists of puzzles, world navigation, combat (which really is not deep nor fun), inventory management and talking to people. I have finished the game with two different endings, both of which seemed to be bad endings and both were not very satisfying. I really wanted to like it, but its just an ok game that started to annoy me in its last quarter and left me disappointed.

TL;DR: the game has a really fun beginning, and a frustrating mid. I did NOT finish the game The game is pretty much Resident Evil in 2D, down to recycling some of the puzzles (like the infamous shotgun puzzle in the first game) and game mechanics (save points with an item box and a typewr-I mean, a desk for you to write down your progress). But in the beginning, it's all you can ask for when it comes to an RE-inspired game, you have clunky combat, you have puzzles, you have a story that's unfolding slowly. You have what you came here for. But sadly, that's where the good ends, in the beginning. As the game progresses, you realized the developers loved RE a little bit TOO much. Many of the faults of the old games are here, like making you go back and forth between item boxes to retrieve keys that are useless otherwise, cryptic puzzles that sometime rely on just brute-forcing the answer (looking at you, garden rune puzzle), and what's worse of all, and this is the reason I uninstalled the game, a terrible quest log and map system. In a regular game, you would have the map filled as you progressed, showing the doors that you haven't opened so you have an easy way of exploring overlooked areas. In this game, you have a question mark in rooms with puzzles you haven't solved, and that's great, but there's no way to see which rooms I didn't enter (as they show up exactly the same as visited rooms) or rooms where I didn't pick up all items (like how RE2 remake changes the color of the room so you know that room is finished). And the quest log... The quest log is next to your map, and it's a mess. I know they were trying to make it look like the main character was filling it out as he progressed in his adventure, but it's unclear and borderline useless. At the very least make sure the entries are numbered, and crossed out when you finish something the main character wrote! You look at the log to figure out what to do and you are just filled with information that you don't need. But it would be manageable if you actually knew what the fuck you were supposed to do. I got to an area where you needed to find three broken parts of a statue. One was easy enough, you get transported to the area you need to go to. And after you finish that... no clue whatsoever. Nothing. I looked at a walkthrough and i wasn't the only one lost after that. This is unacceptable in an adventure game like this one. Some minor complaints include some, in my opinion, unfair boss fights, some boring enemy design, and a pretty so-and-so english translation. As a native spanish speaker, you could tell the dev team spoke both languages, but the translation is too literal in some cases, which makes it sound unnatural.

Very good indie survival horror game. Has a bit of Resident Evil vibes in it. Also can recommend this game to H.P. Lovecraft fans. The story is pretty good and grim. Game gave me huge The Last Door vibe (you know what I mean if you played it). Combat can feel little dull but it's allright. Soundtrack is pretty dope - a lot of chill piano melodies, very good job! Solid 7/10.

    It's raining...

With an exquisite presentation, good soundtrack, and a clear inspiration from classics in the genre, Lamentum is a game that sadly fails at much at what it sets out to do. I really wanted to like this game, but was struggling by the midway mark to find a reason to care. Its plot is entirely derivative of Silent Hill 2, and misses much about what made that plot work. Victor, the protagonist, is painfully unlikeable, his dialogue feeling very bland and flat. The story is also painfully predictable, layered in every trope of the genre you can think of. Dying wife that exists only to motivate the protagonist to get involved with some horror stuff? Check. Eerie manorhouse with an equally suspect person living there? Check. Eldritch horrors that reveal themselves in painfully melodramatic ways? Check. The presentation, again, is gorgeous. It is hard not to love the evident painstaking effort that was put into the entirety of Lamentum. But even the small amount of potential that exists for novelty in the premise of a Resident Evil clone with a Silent Hill plot in the 1700s is squandered by bizarre design decisions. Why are survival horror games still so set on making keys or other important items take up inventory slots in this day and age? Why is every enemy's combat strategy the same (back up and swing, back up and swing)? Why are secret (read: the best) endings locked behind inventory items that can be missed (and will be missed if you aren't doing inventory management correctly)? Why is the game's obvious main villain revealed to have a dramatic and awesome final transformation design, only for him to fall off of a bridge and die in the most anticlimatic way possible? Why is he replaced by some guy we saw in like one scene? Why does Lamentum not even hint at the solutions to puzzles? Most of the puzzles are fantastic and self-evident (genuinely some of the best parts of this game are the puzzles and the general exploration of the luscious pixel-art environments), but one right at the end of the game just needed a prompt to say "if only I had a digging tool...". Why does the game take itself so painfully seriously when it is very, very clearly just a transposition of Resident Evil and Silent Hill into a less modern setting? Why can it never poke fun at itself? Why are the monsters all so painfully ineffective? Why does the map barely mark anything for you? Why is one ending selected based (as far as I could tell) on a single dialogue choice made in the first hour of the game? Why does Victor provide the dullest narration possible, and has no emotive relationship with any character? He is so genre-blind it is almost physically painful. I get that he's meant to be grieving or in a mental fugue state, but man, there are some things that just made me facepalm. Thematically, the game is held together with the thinnest, weakest threads. Not that games have any obligation to be moral vehicles, but the game's message (if it even has one) is utterly incoherent. A plot that seems on the face of it to be about the process of grieving and giving up those we have lost is, of course, undermined when the early "leave" or escape ending offered to us is presented explicitly as a coward's way out. In the end, Lamentum is no fun to play. Great presentation and decent environmental design and puzzles are no substitute for a weak, shaky plot, a dreadful main character, and unfun combat, which plays out the same literally every time. I hope very dearly that the developers got the Resident Evil and Silent Hill out of their system, because I think if they were to try and make another horror game, they could knock it out of the park. But as it stands, Lamentum is not worth struggling through. It contains too many disappointments and gameplay / story lowpoints for it to be worth your time. The developers, evidently hard workers and passionate about their craft, deserve support, but this game is, frankly, not good. And that's no fun at all to write.

This is one of the few games I bought when not on sale. I'm a gigantic coward when dealing with horror games, but the pixel art aesthetic and relative lack of jump scares made this a possible title for me. So after finishing two of the endings let me just start with a tl;dr: I enjoyed the game and have no regrets. Now for details. Now keep in mind, I'm not some pro reviewer. I have no organizational structure like some of the other fancy pants around here, but I'm just writing what comes to mind. Combat: -Combat is clunky and repetitive. Trigger enemy attack, move back, counter attack. That being said, I wasn't bored with it because enemies do not respawn and running if always an option. -There needs to be a rework of the hitboxes. Hit boxes are very lacking in depth. So basically attacking upwards gets you more range than attacking from the sides. Unfortunately this applies to enemies as well. There's on boss that has a 360 degree attack and the range at the top part of the attack is significantly longer than the sides or bottom. -I don't really have any positives I can say about the combat other than that enemies don't respawn. If they did, I wouldn't have finished this game. Audio: -I can't really remember any music from the game other than the sad piano music. That being said, someone REALLY needs to rework the audio because some notes on that piano sound like they're coming out pretty shrill and honestly hurt my ears. -The SFX were fine and atmospheric. Visuals: Ok, this is where the game gets kinda weird. It almost feels as if it was made by two pixel artists of varying skill. The more skilled one worked on the larger sprites like the statue in the main hall of the manor, whereas the less skilled one (no offense) worked on other things. The perspective is really odd. Some cabinets seem like they're stuck into a wall, and odder still is that depth is not applied to all sprites. Take the church for example. The pulpit's depth is fine, but the altar seems as if it's a flat object with no depth. Collision masks are really odd. Story: The story is nothing special but it is well told and fitting. The writing is also well done as well. Exploration: I will most definitely replay Lamentum just because of this. There are SO many things in this game that I missed. It kinda feels like Dark Souls in that sense. Where does the elevator go? How do I get the sword? Plenty of what ifs to bring me back to try the game again in a while. Overall: I think this game lacks polish and needs a kind of definitive edition makeover, but it's an honest and well done effort by a team of two (I think). No ragrats.

Just completed the game with 2 endings and still have to get 2 more. Overall, the game is a great time and has a genuinely disturbing atmosphere as you would expect from any good survival horror game. The game keeps you engaged with mystery, lore and different environments in which you must find a way to survive. Pros: - Interesting story with an unsettling atmosphere - Character and monster design are an absolute delight (except for those bat things, fuck those guys) - Combat is easy to get a hang of along with the dodging - Interesting puzzles that didn't require unnecessary brain wracking but still made you take a sec to think - Multiple choices and endings add replay value Cons: - The map. It serves its purpose but it can be confusing until you learn to read it. Would be great if it allowed you to mark locations - The combat, while fun, became pretty easy and predictable to the point where I never needed to use my gun and could just kite enemies with the melee weapons. Felt more like the terminator than having to worry about actually surviving. - Miss-able collectibles to which there is ZERO indication even exist (but I suppose this adds to the exploration aspect). - The backtracking towards the end of the game could get a bit repetitive, it would be nice to add some fast travel locations or something of the sort. Overall a really fun game that I enjoyed way more than I initially thought I would. 8/10
