If your going to purchase this game, do it while it's on sale. This is ridiculous that this game with no DLC, (That's right) is 59.99. And even more a slap in the face that they stated they wont add the DLC. Well Gents and Gals, time to DIY this trash fire they gave us. If you have the patience to read all of what's spewing out my mouth and onto this keyboard I'm hammering with my fat fingers, I commend you. Breaking it down I have good news and bad news. THE GOOD NEWS *You can add the DLC yourself and it will work just fine. Also it's super simple if you have the prerequisite. *There are workarounds to make the game playable and not give you a massive migraine and make you wanna take 100 ibuprofen. (Thank the mouth breathers at Reddit for that one.) THE BAD NEWS *You'll need the base game with the DLC to get the DLC. (I'm sure someone has found other workarounds, I'm just to lazy to check. *You'll have to have patience in getting this game just right. Now to add the DLC, (What I did and many others before me did.) Go to your library on both Fallout 4 and Fallout 4 VR. Click the settings icon for the game in your library. Select browse local game files. Do this for each game. On each game, find the Data folder and open them both. Now on the Fallout 4 (not VR) Data file, select all files with these starting 3 letters, DLC. So all files with the starting name DLC need to be copied and pasted to Fallout 4 VR Data file. Once the files copy over, your set. I booted up VR and had all the DLC. Everything is working fine. Bethesda is mega lazy for this one. Onto the visuals, many tweaks can be made. Unfortunately, I would be typing for a long time to explain all of them, and I am lazy. So your best bet is to find guides online. Most you can find here on Steam since Bethesda dumped this on us so we have to find our own workarounds. I just adjusted in-game settings until I was satisfied. One I recommend is having TAA on. Otherwise your background like trees and terrain with have this sparkle shine to it and it hurts the eyes. (Looks like crap too) They give you the option for teleport movement or smooth movement. Smooth is always better than teleportation. You will unfortunately have to deal with teleporting in build mode, but I have gotten used to it. Some settings in-game you'll just have to fiddle with until you get them right. Some also want you to restart to see the changes. Just a game restart so it's not too much of a hassle. I somehow had the patience for all this. And if you can, that's great. This is a good game. Certainly not a 59.99 game, but it is breathtaking being in the Fallout universe. It's one thing to play a game on a screen but to be in it, whole different story. Simply being able to peek around corners, having freedom to hold and fire your weapon as you want is phenomenal. It makes the game feel more fluid. Now if you already own 4 and the DLC, I recommend picking this up. (Not for full price though.) Grab it on sale, because the workarounds you'll have to do to get what you want do not warrant a reason to drop $60 bucks on this by itself.

You can copy/paste the DLC from regular Fallout 4 into the Fallout 4 VR files.

10/10. Best VR experience I've had to date. *HOWEVER* this is only achievable by using the "Fallout 4 Essentials" mod pack with Wabbajack which contains like 100+ mods that are aimed at optimizing the game to get 90 FPS. The game is unplayble without this mod pack, but with it, the game becomes an amazing immersive post apocalyptic cluster f. I havn't enjoyed a VR game this much ever.

I recommend this game with serious reservations. Straight out of the box, it's a piece of crap that was hastily thrown together by Beth as a clearly shameless cash grab, to mindlessly capitalize on the growing public interest in VR gaming. That's a harsh statement, but a fair one. Little to no thought was put in on how to make it a functional VR game in the likes of Blade and Sorcery or even their own Skyrim VR (which, it must be said, also requires heavy modding to work properly, but it's a bit better than this out of the box). Unmodded, you are literally just a pair of controllers (they didn't even bother to give you hands) and all weapons are held one-handed, even the rifles, shotguns, and other long weaponry. It's an awful experience trying to properly aim them. Even when holding a weapon, though, you're still just a weapon literally floating in the air and an invisible camera for a head. I'd recommend not even bothering to play this for a moment without mods (aside from starting it up the first time to get the game files), and then immediately modding it with Vortex or manually before you properly jump in. I've installed FRIK, Full Dialog VR, and Virtual Holsters so far, and I'd consider that a bare minimum to make this a fully-featured VR game. Sadly, nothing like HIGGS or PLANCK exist for FO4 VR (the modding scene for this game is very small), so physical interaction with the world is still painfully limited and will remain so, sadly. FRIK (like VIRK) gives you the ability to have a full-body avatar that lets you see your own clothing and armor and possess actual arms and legs. However, it oddly doesn't have the built-in holsters of VIRK, so you'll have to add Virtual Holsters on top of that (and I still have trouble getting it to work properly). I have many more mods for Skyrim VR than for Fallout 4 VR, because there just isn't the same variety of mods available, and they also tend to work better. The frame rate is...atrocious, most of the time. That said, I'm running the game on a GTX 1070ti, which is just above the minimum specs for the game (with a Ryzen 7 3700x, pulling the game off of an NVMe drive) so perhaps a better graphics card would solve that issue? I'm hoping to grab something in the 30 series soon (even one of the higher 20 series would be great), so I hope to see some improvement eventually. I'm also not (yet) running any performance-enhancing mods. So, why do I recommend this, after all the doom and gloom? Despite everything this game gets wrong, this is still one of the best ways to experience Fallout 4. It's utterly breathtaking in how it immerses the player in the world. You're INSIDE the world of Fallout, standing there and looking around bombed-out Boston and shooting Super Mutants in the face from two feet away! Get this for the experience and you'll enjoy it (after some time spent modding it into a working VR game, obviously). If Beth had spent more than a few weeks throwing this together (bit of hyperbole, but not by much), this could have been a mind-blowing, game-changing experience for the entire VR industry! Finally, get the game on a steep sale. It's not worth full price. Beth don't deserve to be rewarded for how poorly this was made. Now, I have to go find Paladin Danse. I left him in Arcjet Systems a few weeks ago and went off exploring the world in all its wonky VR glory , so hopefully he hasn't died of boredom waiting for me.

This game works with oculus devices just fine.Something i didn't know for a while because steam says it doesn't support it.You can play sitting down to do so download nexus mod smooth movement follow instructions and insert height to about (45.0) for both options. after that there will be lag spikes when you play this is because vsynch in this game actually is a bad thing.most preferable option is to go to nvidia control panel then 3d settings and turn vsynch to adaptive this will solve the lag spikes. For others who don't posess a nvidia card look online for more help there are solutions.lastly to get rid of the blur for nvidia cards in the control panel 3d settings turn on mfaa then in the game turn off anti-aliasing this makes the game look alot better p.sturn on image sharpening as wll for improved image quality. this game so far is way better than i ever expected so far up there with the greats such as Skyrim,Half life, walking dead and resident evil 7

It "SUPPORTS" index controllers by thinking they're vive wands and the game is actually unplayable. The game does not have proper index support, remove the index support because at this point it's borderline false advertising. edit: for those who really want to play this w/ index https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/41931

a lot of people put blood sweat and tears into making this a great vr game... and almost none of them work for bethesda. you're looking at a vr game where you're going to have to get mods to optimize the textures, add in a body, make scopes actually work on the guns, configure the body mod to make bullets even line up with your gun, transfer the dlc files from regular fallout 4 and download patches to make them work because bethesda couldn't be bothered, and tweak the ini files with a custom tool from online just to turn off the vomit-inducing movement scheme that makes you suddenly change direction if you move your hand while walking. if you're not up for that, then don't bother.

Top 3 tips to enjoy FO4 VR. 1.) DONT BUY AT FULL PRICE. 2.) Don't expect a full working game without mods. 3.) Bethesda abandoned the game so don't expect Todd to save you. You can get the DLC working by copying the ESMs from the flat version. You'll need the VR DLC FIX and Automatron DLC VR FIX. Automatron is incredibly buggy but you can complete it. You can use mods from the flat version but they'll need to be for a specific version of FO4. There are fixes for almost every problem you might have with the game, just check the Steam guides and discussions. AND DON"T BUY AT FULL PRICE.

Let's be honest - this is a pretty terrible port of a pretty average game - I've been playing Fallout games since the Interplay/Black Isle isometric days, and FO4 is a step forward from FO3/NV in terms of its gunplay, visuals, and being able to mod your equipment; but it's several steps backwards in almost every other way. The best term for it is probably 'consolified' - the RPG elements of the game have been basically stripped out of the game and simplified to the point where they might as well not be there at all. But if you want to know more about why Fallout 4 kinda sucks compared with its predecessors, you're better off reading reviews for the 2D version of the game as they cover that in much greater detail. We're here to talk about Fallout 4 VR. The weird thing is, despite being a pretty horrible VR port, in VR this game becomes incredibly immersive. It's a totally different experience from playing Fallout 4 in 2D, and when you consider that there are no native VR games around with anything close to the depth or scale of Fallout 4, well, suddenly this horrible VR port starts looking a little less horrible. As flawed as it is, VR quite literally adds a new dimension to the game, and makes it a lot easier to forgive its many shortcomings. Unmodded with vanilla settings it's OK, but with a handful of mods the game really starts to come to life. Go to nexusmods, download Nexus Mod Manager, and get going. Here are my must-haves: - More accurate weapons - removes RNG bullet spread and recoil from guns, because you're shooting in VR now - Darker Nights - this makes it really dark at night time, much more atmospheric and scary - All Weapons HD (A.W.H.D) - this makes all the weapon textures look nicer (recommend 2K version for performance) - Interiors Enhanced - fixes lighting in interior areas - Fallout 4 Texture Optimization Project - this is a must-have to increase performance - Vivid Fallout All In One - just makes everything look better, with no performance loss - Pipboy VR Light - changes the Pipboy light to a flashlight that you can move around (this is awesome when combined with Darker Nights and Interiors Enhanced), so much better than the static Pipboy light - Vivid Weathers - better, more immersive weather conditions For some reason they ported the game to VR but didn't actually consider that aiming a gun in VR works completely differently from the mechanics of aiming in normal 2D first person shooters. So you'll need the following mods to improve aiming down sights/scopes: - Improved Reflex Sight Visibility - Pipe Guns Glow Sight Fix - Pipe Scope Beta - VR Handmade Reflex Sights I've heard that the mod See Through Scopes is also great in VR, but no matter how much I tried I couldn't get it working - the scopes either did not show up at all on the weapons, or they appeared but the game crashed immediately afterwards. YMMV. Be wary that some mods do not work in VR. Do some googling and you can find a curated list of mods that are confirmed to work in VR. One other thing - while the DLC isn't officially supported in VR by Bethesda, if you own the normal version of Fallout 4 you can literally drag and drop the DLC folders/files into your Fallout 4 VR folder and then enable them, they will work. You may have to install a mod or two to fix some minor compatibility/texture issues (and one specific mod to get the Automatron DLC to work), but the good news is that the DLCs work just fine. So, with a handful of mods (well, what starts out as a handful) and some tinkering with supersampling/FOV settings, this is a game that will potentially give you hundreds of hours of immersive, post-apocalyptic entertainment. It's by no means perfect, there are bugs (this is a Bethesda game), performance will not always be totally smooth (particularly in built-up areas), and controls are horrible (particularly when navigating the Pip Boy - I recommend enabling the option where it projects the Pip Boy in front of you and pauses the game, rather than actually trying to use it on your wrist). It will always feel like a port rather than a native VR experience. However, once you spend a couple of hours to get all your mods and settings in order, this is an eminently playable game, and it's as close to the experience of wandering around a post-apocalyptic wasteland as we have right now. Having said all that, $60 is a lot to pay for this. I picked it up on sale for $15 and could not be happier with my purchase. I recommend this game, but be warned that you'll need to put in a couple of hours to configure and mod the game, otherwise you'll be getting a dramatically inferior experience. Also, still infinitely better than the dumpster fire that is Fallout 76.

It's difficult to really express how insulting this whole product really is. I feel the same way playing this game as I do when I accidentally buy a scammy product from Aliexpress with two month shipping that breaks as soon as you try to use it. This is like when you hire a contractor to make high-quality improvements to your home, and instead he does just enough work to avoid litigation, pockets the money, and skips town. Let's look at some gameplay features I've noticed during my incredibly short time playing this game: 1. The night sky doesn't render in stereo, so you get double vision every time you look up. 2. Debris, particles, and grass all float above the ground, everywhere. Many of them also have a sickening double vision effect. Things that only render in one eye are everywhere. 3. Scopes are still 2D, and every time you raise a scoped weapon, your view goes from 3D to 2D and honestly it's even worse than it sounds. 4. Every weapon is handled like a pistol, and you can't hold anything with more than one hand. Really puts you in the game. 5. You can't even reload your own gun. You just push a button and get an animation. 6. The performance is so bad that my 1070ti/2700X just can't keep up, no matter what settings I tweak or what mods I install. No issues with any other VR games. 7. This version of the game has no visual settings (aside from AA). If you want to change anything, you have to find and edit the .ini file, manually, in a text editor. $60. 8. You can't edit your character, even with mods. You can only pick from presets. 9. Doesn't even include DLC. 10. All across the map, the terrain is uneven and causes your head to bob up and down, which is pretty bad even for me. And I don't even get motion sickness. You can't even tell me they spent any real time testing this. Who looks at this and decides to ship it? Honestly it's hard to pick out what is and isn't a bug. Long story short, after this and everything else in the last few years, I'm never buying another Bethesda product again. Ever. I don't care if they're giving away gold bars with every purchase of Starfield, never again.
