  A decent game, though the plot involving the head seems rather tacked-on. I frankly wish it was just a slice-of-life game; not everything needs to be life or death stakes. Sometimes, the stresses of trying to bail one's family out of the hole they dug and trying to romance another human are enough.

  Fanfic-tier writing and an attempt to fit in too much make the characterisations anaemic and the story unsatisfying. It's been said before, but I wish the writers of these wouldn't try to accommodate every possible combination of sex/gender/romantic inclination for the main character, and I definitely wish they wouldn't do it for the other characters: it forces descriptions and behaviours to be utterly generic. While I appreciate having breadth of choice, it's a balancing act--there needs to be some substance to each path. Like, I just romanced the princess (who could have been a bloke, if I'd wanted), and there was nothing to her besides being a) a prince(ss), and b) slightly miffed everyone treated her like royalty. Some personality, some verbal sparring, some feminine allure*: these would have been most welcome. Now, overall, I think it's a good idea for a setting, it was just unconvincingly rendered. Maybe a more satirical take would have come off better (being knowingly silly is better than just being silly), but I don't know; to me it read like a teenage girl's more-or-less earnest attempt at writing posh people, using fantasy novels for "reference". It's not terrible, but it's not especially good either. The last thing I'll mention is genre expectation: imho, the story would have been better if it stuck to high school drama. [spoiler]Not every game/piece of writing needs a big overarching conspiracy--it really felt out of place, and my betrothed/everyone else were weirdly unperturbed by what happened.[/spoiler] In the end, I got some enjoyment, but was left dissatisfied. Parting trivia: my fave CoG might be A Study in Steampunk. It's really good. * I'm not after Mills & Boon here, just a compelling character

  While I mark this as not recommended I will say this is well written and enjoyable to an extent. However I, personally, feel that its current price is too high. If its on offer definitely give it a try, but beyond that it is fine to skip until then. Pros: - Well written story - Definable characters - Interesting setting and twists - An actual polyamorous relationship that is well written and done better than any other games/media out there? DOUBLE POINTS!! Cons: - School isn't explained as much as you'd think, not much lore or exploring. You get there and that's it. - No label options to know what stat choices use (Make this standard practice in all CYOA) - Story seems to not be fully focused, it seems to jump around before it settles fully on it. - Characters feel a little flat outside of their traits (while definable they seem 2d in their portrayal) - Seems way too short for 400k+ words - Classes and being a part of the school feels like a secondary thing rather than a main focus like you think. - Lessons aren't structured, feel not fully fleshed out and teacher interactions are few and far between. - Some stats don't seem to do anything, while others seem to affect options that you'd not think they would in normal circumstances. Overall score: 6/10 (Above average)

  This game is filled with cliches and may as well be called (not) Harry Potter with the serial numbers and magic filed off, but I liked it. Maybe it's because it was only text with no images, but it was like I was at the school making rivalries and alliances. Was never much for text based games, but this one's given me a change of heart.

  I thought this one was going to be my favorite COG. I prefer a realistic “everyday life” romance story over some magical/paranormal stuff, which is something that most COGs include, so I was not very pleased about the sudden [spoiler] unrealistic, dark subplot, which was forced into a normal boarding school romance story for some reason[/spoiler]. But the real dealbreaker is something else. This game has A LOT of side characters. Those are nicely written and all romancable. That’s not the problem. I really enjoyed my first playthrough, where every person had some (either chosen or randomized) gender. Problem is, the persons are called by their LAST NAME and it doesn’t change with the next playthrough. So the more often you replay the game, you will get confused as to which gender all of your side characters have this time, and if it would make sense for your main character to romance those or not. [i]One example: Lesbian character has to choose someone to bring as a dance date.[/i] The game will ask you who to bring and then show 10 genderneutral / last names in a row. Yeah, who to pick? Do you really remember every single gender of those classmates in the beginning of a new playthrough? I also noticed that even the own parents of those characters call their child by their last name. I have no idea why the author thought it was a good idea to choose those names for the side characters. I can only explain it to myself with either lazy writing or a failed attempt to be inclusive. Other COGs change up the first name slightly to signal which gender that person is assigned to during that playthrough. Much more pleasant to read and not as damn confusing.

  Good game. I felt like going to muggles version of Hogwarts. Lot of interesting characters and wide range of branching gameplay. Romance options were pretty good. But i felt overall plot and story were incoherent. It lacks focus and goes from family, school, competition, society etc. I enjoyed it nevertheless. Wish it had more engaging story. 8/10 Had a high school threesome.

  Another gem from Choice of Games! This one was along the lines of Affairs of the Court: Choice of Romance in that it focuses a lot on balancing proper decorum with playing the people around you to your advantage. The fact that there's options to play an asexual character, as well as the inclusion of a polyamorous romance option make this a real treat to play, since there's so many different routes you can take. You can also choose the genders of all the side characters, so you don't get stuck pursuing a character you aren't very invested in solely because you feel that they're the best option of their particular gender. And unlike Choice of Romance, your lowest stat doesn't get stuck being super-low level the whole time, because in the course of the story you get tutoring in your worst subject! The only gripe I have is that it's harder to romance the Archambault students, due to the fact that you see them less frequently than the Gallatin students. Overall, if you've played and enjoyed other Choice Of Games titles, Creme de la Creme will be a spectacular experience and a worthwhile investment!
