Information / English
Assassin's Creed Syndicate - Jack The Ripper takes you back to 1888, where you can discover the pulsating world of industrial London.
Gameplay / Story
Jack the Ripper is the pseudonym of a serial killer to whom the murders of at least five women in the autumn of 1888 in London's East End are attributed. The murderer was never caught, and his possible identity is still a matter of speculation today. Criminologists, historians and laypeople alike suspect numerous people. The Jack the Ripper events turned into a jumble of scientific and historical research, conspiracy theories, and popular narratives. The newspapers from around the world, which were particularly popular at the time of the murders, continuously devoted extensive reports to the alleged perpetrator, the murders, the investigations and the failures of the police. back to the game. Twenty years after Jacob and Evie Frye freed London from the clutches of Templar Master Crawford Starrick, the city's residents suffer again: in 1888, a serial killer ambushes and kills prostitutes who roam the streets at night. Jacob, who stayed in town, goes in search of the killer, but disappears without a trace. His sister Evie then returns from India to stop the murderer and find her brother. The gameplay has improved in almost every respect, especially compared to its predecessor Unity. The game is now smooth and stable, sneaking works better than ever and the parkour system works wonderfully. The tasks for fulfilling the mission are now set more fairly and automatic save points are distributed more sensibly. There are now several and many ways to get money and skill points, these have been implemented sensibly. The rope hook is a useful means of transport that makes sense and fun in the very big world. Throwing knives turn into deadly projectiles, especially when Evie uses them and these remind a little of Ezio's crossbow from the second part. The chests hold a lot of coal again. The brotherhood is back as a supporting faction and it is quite useful, e.g. colleagues can be upgraded to level 9 in a separate course menu and are equal to opponents in the later course. You can also request and use a fully occupied carriage with five strong allies. It's nice to see that AC Brotherhood feature is back.
Combat system
Evie has unique stealth skills and Jacob has unique combat skills. Both styles have their advantages and disadvantages, so decide which one you prefer. There are also lots of new weapons such as the Kukri knife, brass knuckles or the stick dagger.
Pro
+ Crime story + London has been recreated absolutely beautifully and splendidly + different means of transport available + AI acts better than in previous titles + some of the best outfits after AC Revalations + Building the gang pays off + The soundtrack is awesome + Wonderful story led by two of the show's strongest protagonists + meet many famous historical figures + New level system + solid crafting system + smooth animations and cool moves + improved combat system with new options + All characters are interesting and form the story into a core
Contra
- small selection of activities - Microtransactions are still there, you can buy cards for Helix credits
Conclusion
Assassin's Creed Syndicate - Jack The Ripper offers you an exciting and gruesome story at the same time.
Information / Deutsch
Fazit
Assassin's Creed Syndicate - Jack The Ripper bietet dir ein spannende und grauenvolle Geschichte zugleich.

Syndicate is by far my favourite AC game. However, do not bother with this DLC. Pros: ??? Cons: Jack's identity is revealed almost immediately, removing any suspense or mystery about him. You also enact several crimes as Jack immediately before Evie gets there, removing any shock factor to the crimes. Playing as Jack is identical to playing as Evie in this. All your old skills are lost while in this DLC. Playing as Jack means that there's no gore to the crimes. All the crimes enacted by him where you *haven't* played as him are all described to be disgusting. Playing as him makes that moot, as theres no blood or dismemberment. Boring af story. Go to crime. Use Eagle Vision to look for clues. Fight. Repeat. Sometimes play as Jack first, doing the exact same thing in the same environment. Why does Jack have a cult? Why? That removes all intimidation of his character. This DLC had so much potential. Shame it lived up to literally none of it.

Okay, so the base game is great, and if you get this DLC along with the season pass it's okay, but if you are planning on just buying this outright I don't reccomend it, here's why: * This DLC crashes frequently. * You play as an older Evie who has decided to take a Batman and try not to kill anyone. * You get screwed over for killing police men. * You rarely play as Jack the Ripper himself. So if you want to play Assassin's Creed Syndicate combined with the Batman Arkham series, but have it crash a lot, this is the DLC for you. If this DLC was less buggy (and crashes less) while letting you play as Jack himself way more frequently it would actually be a decent DLC, but the lack of Jack makes the DLC overall crappy.

The Jack DLC is an interesting, sometimes compelling piece of storytelling, ruined by an awful final encounter. First, the good stuff. It's 1888, twenty years after the events of Syndicate. Jacob has disappeared while trying to stop Jack the Ripper, someone clearly known to him. A few months later, Evie returns from India, and with the help of Inspector Aberline, begins investigating the murders. Much of the investigations involve piecing together the Ripper murders, locating evidence with your eagle vision, and slowly assembling a timeline of the victims' final moments. This is all a lot of fun, much like the crime scene investigations from Batman Arkham Origins. Then there are the missions involving the prostitutes of Whitechapel, Jack's chosen targets. This game treats these women as human beings, not the cardboard cutouts of most NPCs in the AC games. You are made to consider their feelings, and it's cleat that the writers wanted to make sure this was not simply another AC killing fest. An interesting design decision was to turn the Rooks against Evie, making the streets a dangerous place for her, even if she's not sure why. Combat-wise, they've added terror. A new type of bomb strikes terror into enemies, making them hesitate, or even panic and run. Of course, your normal attacks, always rather fierce in Syndicate, now generate that same fear, and several new attacks and skills are built around increasing fear duration and range. It works, most of the time, though I felt that the new combat felt more like brawling than skilled killing. The story moves along at a steady pace, and is entirely enjoyable... until the final encounter with Jack himself. Imagine my utter lack of surprise when I discovered that the greatest enemy is not Jack the Ripper, but the camera! Assassin's Creed has always had trouble with its camera in enclosed spaces. Naturally, the devs set the final battle in a cramped basement. Even if the camera itself were not an issue, you'll spend several minutes running round and round in circles, trying to get the jump on someone who can see you... because it's a small basement! It's an exercise in frustration that I eventually walked away from. Without spoiling the encounter, I'll say that as a story piece it made little sense beyond its location. Add to that the awful difficulties of the camera, and really, it's a wonder that this encounter survived the first prototype before some dev spoke up and said "we should move this into the streets, or at least upstairs. I am reminded of Assassin's Creed III, where the devs swore up and down that they'd listened to the fans, and were acutely aware of the hatred of chase missions... so then went ahead and added several particularly brutal chases that were actually worse than the previous games. In the end, this DLC is worth playing. The story is interesting, the new mission types are fun, and the overall setting, in which all that the Frye twins have built is turned against them is a fascinating ending to their story. If it weren't for the awful final encounter, I doubt I'd have anything bad to say at all, other than some quibbles about the combat. So go ahead and buy the season's pass, and enjoy this interesting bit of storytelling. Just try not to get too frustrated by Victorian London's greatest villain, the dev who designed the final encounter!

DLC for Assassin's Creed Syndicate which action is developed 20 years later. In general the plot is a little contradictory and simple, it consists of 10 main tasks and a set of the additional repeating quests. 2 characters - Ivie and Jack. At what the gameplay not especially differs, receptions and tactics at heroes same. Some missions are executed in the form of detective investigation, as in The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. The ending in general ridiculous and silly, develops feeling that Ubisoft has a creative impotence, or the child scripts. 6/10

*Story spoilers Jack The Ripper is an awesome historical mystery and I love the fact that they decided to make a DLC going on about his story. However instead of making it into a mysterious and crazy detective DLC that then would end with you fighting the Ripper or arresting him, etc. it develops into a hidden story on how he was an Assassin and now he's going around and using his skills to torture and mutilate hoes and is targeting Assassin's and killing them for yet again, another stupid reason like in Rogue. Although it adds new activities/quests and new equipment to use, etc. it's a definite must for anyone who still wants to play with a 100% in the base game. +Decent new storyline +New equipment +New outfits +New quests/side-activities +New characters and returning ones +Takes place a decade or so after the base game so it's cool to see where London is at the given time +Cool new locations outside of London +Play as Jack +Game is an a complete different filter and therefor really feels like a DLC +Intro cutscene was so brought together it almost seemed better put together then the entire default game +Return of Abberline -I honestly don't like the fact of Jack being an Assassin, I'd prefer to keep him in his historical background as a mysterious character with no knowledge of who he is, I mean ik it's Assassin's Creed but come on -Although it was cool to play as Jack I felt very uneasy and upset playing as him as he has does the complete opposite of what Evie is trying to achieve and what's even worse is on how the game makes you destroy his evidence so Evie can't find it, frustrating -Making up Jack's past and making him destroy it so "no one" will ever know -The whole sack face thing is ugly and almost comical and stupid looking, would prefer him to have a permanent shadow over his face or to not be seen very much and or in daylight -Evie is now in some weird pacifist mode and is super hesitant to killing which gets very annoying in combat and especially in the case of her "stabbing" people animation is still used yet no sound effect is played and the enemy is still alive -I understand both Evie & Jack learned new tricks in India but I find it lame that they have the exact same equipment besides the default game weapons Evie has -The fact that Jack has some how formed a gang and even has victims stored away for torturing is so weird and totally goes off the rails from who he really is -Jacob being bested at the beginning and forcing you to play as Evie is a meh -New detective system is cool but yet again it's never explained what eagle vision is and how you can just see pure letters over evidence of his crimes -Felt that these missions just go back and forth and seem to as it are just filler as they ran out of ideas to make it last longer -The worst part is definitely the detective work on his crime scenes, you'd expect some Batman shit and going super in depth into it and almost looking into every kill. However you do about 5 cases and all being just following blood splatters to determine where the prostitute threw her Assassin ring because that's all that matters apparently Jack the Ripper is amazing and cool real life mystery that to today is still unsure why/who did the murders. I felt that the addition of him into AC was misguided as he was turned into an Assassin and pulled some lame AC Rogue shit where he gets upset over a death and goes berserk killing all the Assassins somehow, that not even the main master assassins can even stop. The story will deals with Jack's psychopath issues and making him into someone who isn't Jack the Ripper, but someone of higher power: with a gang, torture cells, etc. Evie comes in with new and the same equipment as Jack yet doesn't kill anyone making the fighting broken and bad with animations. Although the game adds new quests several of them are repeated and reskined ones from the base game. However the DLC looks pretty cool graphicly and at least adds something new for people wanting more. I also just want to say that I feel like this leaves a terrible ending for the Frye twins and wished something better then this mortifying issue as the last plot for the game
Likes
- Introduction of the fear mechanic - Shifting POV - Different area activities - The change in the cities - The storyline
Dislikes
- The storyline - The short playtime tl;dr I would recommend to buy it if you want to see more of the twins and what they have been up to. As well as the power of inflicting fear into people's heart. (Wait for a sale if you can be patient, shrugs) Fear Mechanic I would recommend buying this DLC for a look at how the game mechanics had evolved and to see more Frye twins obviously. Forget about assassinating and striking (metaphorical) fear from the shadows. Now, it is possible to strike fear in broad daylight and have the enemies run away in terror. It makes for really quick clearing of big groups of enemies. (+ there is a thrill of power in the ability to scare people away) Shifting POV Furthermore, the ability to play as Jack the Ripper marks the difference between the people involved in the DLC. An example, as Jack, it is possible to kill civilians without any issue. The game doesn't warn the player off, rather it acknowledges and presents a message that says something along the line of 'it does not hinder Jack's plan'. In Jack's pov, the game does not also let the player forget that they are in his shoes and the bgm changes accordingly. Different area activities Do you like helping people? Well, there is now a whole bunch of modified activities. While they aren't completely new, it is different from the usual Bounty Hunt, Child Labor rescue, Templar stronghold etc. It is mainly a positive because after rescuing all of the Boroughs in the main game, I was all up for a change in the activities. There are also more varieties as compared to the base game. The change in the city The streets has become emptier due to the terror that is Jack the Ripper and it is reflected. I had hope to grab a ride but was forced to travel by roofs/foot because there weren't much traffic. Also there were instances of NPCs beating each other up and that seems like a good reflection of a fearful city. Storyline It is under both like and dislike because it was nice to see Frederick beginning to question working with the Frye twins. Finally realising that no matter how well they intend, they are still outside of the law that he is governing. The way they contained the game to two cities that held a lot of place in the base game was a nice touch. As for dislike, it is mainly for Evie's role in the story. As well as the function that they had regarding females for this DLC. (However, I wouldn't be expanding on that, this review is long enough) The story also would have worked better if it did not felt as rushed. It certainly feel that the story would have benefitted with a few more hours of play. Short playtime As mentioned earlier, the story would work better with a few more hours of play. I think the whole DLC took less than half a day for me. That is including doing some activities and the DLC storyline. The pacing of the DLC also seems odd because activities were still getting unlocked about halfway/ four-fifths of the DLC storyline. Which needed me to go back to Whitechapel, even though I cleared it earlier. PS: ( I do not quite understand the need to go through the menu twice to access the DLC though?)

Jack the Ripper - infamous adversary of Sherlock Holmes, or is it? In this really awesome DLC you are placed some years after the events of Syndicate where a former assassin named Jack (duh!) has started killing - you guessed it - hookers. And assassin hookers at that! How awesome can AC get? Well, it can and it got! A new system of fear is implented in the game, allowing you to brutally execute adversaries and make the witness shit their pants with poo! I feel this fear mechanic was missing from all the previous games, and Ubisoft should include it in the ones to come! So yes I recommend this DLC! It's well worth the money.
