The Aesop Player is an audiobook player for the elderly or others with certain Special Needs, or for anyone who wants really simple control of the book that is playing. Its user interface makes it easy to operate for anyone, but particularly for seniors and/or people with poor vision or motor control.

Features:

- Simplicity: just a list of audio books and a "start" button,

- Low-vision friendly interface: book titles are read aloud and high contrast, large UI elements are used,

- Flip-to-stop: there's no need to press any buttons to pause playback, just put the device face down on a table. Flip it back to restart (as an option).

- Adjust speed (and loudness): Slower playback for those who need it, faster for those in a hurry. Designed to work for low-vision users.

- Two finger swipe to back up to prior stop points.

- Tools for care givers (or expert users) to install and remove books, locally track book progress, and change settings to match user's needs without using a PC, and (using other apps) do that remotely. Downloads of .zip files and from On-the-Go media are supported.

- A comprehensive web page with explanations of the options and guidance on how to best use it in a given situation is provided.

- A "dedicated player" (kiosk) mode is supported so that those who might otherwise lose control of the device accidentally are prevented from doing so (see * below)

The Aesop Player is free, and does not support any advertising. It was developed for a family member, and we hope it helps your situation as well.

* The target audience of the Aesop Player includes individuals who might have difficulty using the full functionality of the underlying device. Limiting the functionality to be only a book player for those users avoids their risk of losing control of the device due to an accidental press of, for example, the "back" button. To avoid this risk, the Aesop Player can be configured as a "dedicated player" as discussed on the web page. There are several possible modes depending on the user's needs. The web page also provides guidance on how to choose the mode meeting your needs.

Note: One of the "dedicated player" modes sets Aesop Player as a "device owner", which in turn requires the use of the BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN permission, which Google wants us to inform you is used. BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN permission is used only for this one purpose, and the procedure for using it requires a sequence of steps that can not happen in any normal use of the application (it requires a PC, one time only). Device owner status, once acquired, can be temporarily suspended or fully discarded easily.

The Aesop Player is an extension of the Homer Player, which is also available on Play Store.
