The Black Cat is a horror short story written by Edgar Allan Poe in 1843 and originally published in the Saturday Evening Post newspaper. It is considered one of the masterpieces of the horror genre and one of the scariest tales.

A young married couple live peacefully at home with their beloved cat Pluto. Pluto is big and beautiful, very beautiful and completely black.

The man begins to fall into alcoholism, which changes his mild personality and makes him irascible and with fits of rage. In one of these attacks, he kills his cat Pluto. Shortly after another second cat appears, very similar in appearance to the previous one, at the couple's house. He also tries to kill him, but he makes a mistake and the situation culminates in a terrifying and unexpected outcome...

The story is told through an unreliable narrator, since according to what the story tells us, the narrator himself does not expect the reader to believe him.
