[tl:dr] below my mumbling Hello [strike]trying to keep it short[/strike]. If you want a fully fledged hunting game this is not it. This game is at the start of its journey. Why would you want this game? If you want to hunt in VR and you re not afraid of the low entry price into this game get it and support the devs. You have two different animals to hunt which are European Hare and Red Deer. But the animals differ in size and there are already rare fur types. Three different weapons to use of which there are two variants for two of them. And you have one huge map. So you see compared to some other games that is not much. But remember this game is at its start. And the devs will add to the game and will listen to suggestions. So if you want to try to influence the development, join the discord! One weapon is a Lee-Enfield style rifle, then a double barreled rifle and a bow. So the first two weapons are already enjoyable. With the doube barreled rifle already feeling perfect. The Lee-Enfield style rifle might need a bit of fine tuning. Or just a better shot than me^^. For me personally the bow is not sophisticated enough. Because only one hand really gets used with the bow. Only the hand holding the bow moves through space. The other hand is only there to draw the bow. So it is hard to find a fix point with your arrow. This makes bow hunting unnatural. But that is all I have against the bow. You can hunt with the bow you can hit and you can have fun with it, but if you played a game which had bow shooting with two free moving hands you might feel uncomfortable. At the moment smooth turning is not in the game and will be added at a later stage. I think many people would like to have it, me also. But till then I manage fine with snap turning. Talking about handling there are options in the game so to modify your own need of stabilization which was very welcome from my side. For me everything(backpack, equipment, weapons) handles pretty fine but that is to say after a couple of hours of playtime. So you might need a little get used to. A bit about the graphics. The close distance optics look really good. The weapons look awesome. Especially the red double barreled rifle which is my fav. The animals look good though the animations are still a bit stiff. For me personally the distance could look better. The shadows could be darker. For me the forrest looks to bright I guess. But that is nothing which lowers the fun of the hunt. Also in VR a too detailed graphic for an immersive feeling is not even necessary but in the end everybody appreciates it. So I wanted to keep this short and crispy to get my thumb out there so lets make a [tl:dr] You want this game if you want to hunt in VR over everything else. The weapons are fun, hunting the animals is fun. Standing around in your tower looking for prey is fun. Low entry price which I would say reflects the state of the game nicely and content to come! Btw using a Rift CV1. Downloading tray tool and disabling the ASW helped my performance quite a bit. I like to add: For participating in the beta I got a key. But I only saw that after I already bought the game, so I did not want to refund and gifted the key to someone. Another plus for the devs.

It's nice. VR was in need of a Hunting game! Works good with real gunstocks, just need some tweaks. Pretty relaxing and immersive.

It has its problems, but I think overall its a decent start to what could be an amazing VR hunting game

For a game that is extremely early in development it's great. I barely scratched the surface with it. Graphically it is not top notch but what VR game is? It ran smooth for my Quest 2 and using a 2060. I'd love for this to get on the Quest 2 gaming platform so it can be supported further. The only real issue I am running into is placing items back on your belt. It is an absolute pain sometimes finding the sweet spot to place it. Also, some of the hunting towers are not exactly where they say to be on the map so just be mindful. I made a beautiful shot on a Gold scoring Red Deer after hitting non vital on 3 other deer. My advice is to go SLOW. I was rushing my shots and having to track animals pretty far. Plus if you are patient animals really do not run far at all and can possibly give you another shot at them. Red Deer caller works great! The binoculars are a little rough. The zooming in and out feature hurts my eyes due to shrinking my view. I feel like it does not really zoom out as of now but it also could just be me. Also what I would LOVE to see is being able to test weapons before purchasing them at the hunting lodge. Would help persuade me to maybe buying it. Overall: I'd say this game is about a 6/10 at its current state. Just for the lack of animals and minor things that need to be tweaked. But anyone currently looking into the game you have to understand this is SUPER SUPER early access. So I recommend you support the devs on this. Especially with this being the only hunting VR game out there. I really do think the devs have something good to start with here. So I say buy it and give it a try but just be patient with the game. All in all I am super excited to see where this game ends up. Thanks for taking the time to read if you got this far! Happy Hunting!

Played and reviewed on Valve Index. Virtual Hunter is a great idea it's (TheHunter classic) clone for VR. However It still needs a tremendous amount of work to make it an enjoyable experience in my opinion and I struggle to see how this game demands a 20$ price tag at the moment. I have played free VR games that are more polished and more put together. I do think this game could end up being fantastic in the long run but I am tired of seeing game developers release games that aren't polished or ready for players and asking people to buy it because in my opinion this game isn't ready for release.

12-10-2021 Game has a lot of potential, but it's going to be up to the developers how far this game goes. This is not even close to a full game yet and in my opinion isn't worth the $15. However, in the future the game could be worth that and more. Only buy if you want to support the development of this game. If you are looking for a hunting simulator in VR that is fully developed, you're going to keep looking (let me know if you find one). If you want a hunting simulator in VR that you can watch and help grow, then it may be worth the $15. Right now, I can't recommend the game in it's current state. I'll keep tabs on the game and update my review as progress hopefully continues. Tips/Questions for developers: 1. Do something about the bolt action or offer some tips on working it. Either expand it's "hit box" out to the right and maybe up more or something. Trying to reload makes want to quit playing. 2. Is there a map of some sort that I'm missing other than the tiny displayed one on the phone? A larger map with the stands marked on it would be nice. It's hard enough spotting things in VR, looking for a stand in the dark in a new area is a nightmare. 3. Some kind of directional signal showing where calls are coming from. While audio quality of the Index is decent, it can be difficult to tell which direction a sound came from. An indicator on the map of it's direction or some sort of augmented reality style audio signals would be cool (like you can see the sound waves). 4. Where the rabbits? I see tracks, but no rabbits. 5. Is there any zoom on the scope or binoculars? 6. Any tips on keeping the scope from drifting into my face while trying to look down it? Doesn't happen every time but occasionally can't get the scope to stop drifting and stay the same distance from my eye.

early access, has promise and the devs have stated that they're out here and listening. i found it has GREAT ATMOSPHERE and charm but when it came to using the guns (shooting) or handling the scanner, it was abysmal. i look forward to the final polished product and i may very well return.

game has alot of promise for sure but it is still very very early, i would not suggest this game as it is right now unless you want to actually be a play tester and give good feed back to the developer. will update review as new updates are released

I think this game is just slightly too early access for me to recommend at this time, but I'll update this review as things unfold. Right now the core gameplay has some major issues that I'd like to see sorted before I could recommend this. On the surface this is a good concept, and does a good job of giving an actual rush if you pull up on a deer you've been stalking for 20 min. Animal behaviors and graphics are definitely in the early access phase but not horrible. Gunplay Currently a bit of a mixed bag. Operation/reloads are more on the realistic side, but not quite on the level of Onward/Pavlov. Using optics is a hassle right now. You can use a "virtual stock" which basically snaps the scope to your eye when you move the controller close to your face, but the aim feels very janky in this mode and the snapping motion is very disorienting. You can turn off the virtual stock and aiming feels 1000% better, but now you just can't seem to bring the scope close enough. It just doesn't feel up to the standard for VR gunplay these days. The front hand when holding guns tends to give me issue too. Your front hand tends to drift backwards IRL vs the virtual hand on the stock. Sometimes it ends up blocking the breach when you go to reload and you have to awkwardly juggle the gun from hand to hand to fix it. Damage Model There's a lot of potential here. Vital hits are *mostly* on par with what you would see the The Hunter and in some ways even exceed them, but this is overshadowed by awkwardness. Best example is the first boar I shot. I actually managed to hit it in the spine while it was running, which immediately caused it to drop on the spot. When I actually got to the boar, it was actually alive but flat on the ground and it appeared that it only could move it's head around. I put the rifle between it's eyes to put the old girl down for good and fired. No reaction. Nothing. Sent shot two away straight into the brain. Once again, no reaction. Put another one into the kill zone, and still nothing. At this point I think it has to be some kind of bug and turn to walk away, but I decide to put one more into it and the porky little terminator dies. I claim the trophy and find that every single shot had actually registered (and how I found out the first shot was a spine hit). It took two shots, straight through face, skull, brain and spine without even flinching. Needless to say this was one of the biggest emotional rollercoasters VR has ever sent me on. Sound This is probably the main reason I can't recommend this game right now. I can overlook the horrendous graphics pop-in effect and awkward gun optics, but the sound destroys any chance of immersion in this game. Sound when hunting is usually more important than sight until you actually have to pull the gun up. Normally you'll hear deer coming long before you see them. None of that is really possible in the current state of the game. All sounds in the game seem to come at a set volume and from a set source, so you get zero indication of distance or direction. You'll be 50 yards from some deer lining up a shot and suddenly a boar, screams directly in your ear and you flail around in a circle trying to find the boar that you apparently are laying on top of, but in reality that boar could be 500 yards away on the other side of a hill.
