Amazing piece of crap. It only lasted 2 missions until I uninstalled it. I played sudden strike from the very first game. In the origins, it was a technical, serious, adult game. All the units were reproduced to the very last detail: armour, range, mobility, etc. It was a pleasure to see the effort in understanding all the weapon systems when translated into the game. Sudden strike 4, unlike its original predecessors is a piece of crappy arcade. Flak 88 has a range of a few meters. Infantry formation has no matter at all. Bunching up al your forces and clicking randomly ensures an easy win. Deceived. Sad. I really miss a serious RTS game as the originals.

Coming at this as a fan of the Blitzkrieg series, this game scratches much the same itch. The campaigns are pretty good and varied, if a bit short. The game would probably benefit from some sort of narrative to tie things together, either in between the campaign missions or within the missions themselves. The view distance on all units is comically small, even smaller than the Blitzkrieg series. I really wish there was a way to increase it. Howitzers and other artillery pieces can also only fire about 100m which seems totally bizarre. Not perfect, but still a good game. I'm going to play the DLCs next.

I bought Sudden Strike 4 in hope to find a good strategy game like the old ones but he turned out to be a really complete disaster. Pros: 1) Good Graphics 2) Good campaign maps 3) Very nice idea to buy units in skirmish modes ( by boats or trains ) 4) Ability lf your division has it to use your tank top hatch to take the commander out and have a slight boost to your FOV tough it's a bit useless most of the time Cons: 1) Almost the same tier units ( Light tanks, Medium tanks, Heavy tanks etc ) share the same fire range except for the artillery units who sometimes can shot a bit more far then tanks ( Even the long tom of the americans can't shot far ) and this ruins the immersion of the series ( In old SS there where HUGE differences between all the units ) 2) The maps for the skirmish are only 4 ( 5 lf you bought it with preorder ) but only 2 of them are actually good ( Beach and Siege ) the other maps are very small and have very few HQ to conquer. 3) There are no options to costumize the skirmish NOT EVEN THE DIFFICULTY SETTING FOR THE AI! There are always the same, they send their blob of units against yours with no tactical thinking especially lf they are armored divisions, also the AI will only order light tanks and never use air support / artillery 4) There are very few units avaible in the skirmish and the only difference between the officers ( Armored, Infantry, Support ) are only 1 unit type ( Armored gets Heavy Tanks for example or the support gets the Tank-Hunter ) 5) Multiplayer has no options like in skirmish to be customizable or change any settings also it's without matchmaking or ranking system just lobbies 6) The developers even after the closed-beta you could get on steam lf you prepurchase haven't addressed any problems with the imput by the players, for example the simple settings on the skirmish to costumize cost and population or ranking system, balances etc 7) A Heavy tank costs 4 and any infantry units costs 1 - Medium Tank costs 3 and infantry 1 and soo on, despite this behin only the cost of the crew for each vehicle ( An armored carrier costs 8 wich are 6 transported infantry and 2 drivers ) the system is broken, i need to only use only 1 infantry well hidden for spotting and then order all the tanks / artillery i could to crush the enemy 8) Infantry has no cover appart from prefixed buildings / trenches and to lay down on the ground, there are no options to build new fortifications or repair damaged buildings 9) The only difference from an officer / normal soldier are the ability ( Lf you have it with your current division ) is the officer can instantly spot any hidden unit in their field of view ( Wich is the same as a normal soldier ) but they are worst at combat they can't use binoculars anymore 10) "Wait for mods to do it" 11) All multiplayer maps have the same game mode and you can't change it 12) There is no button / command to tell your hidden infantry to don't shot, you can use them for spotting but when they see anything ( Like a random infantry or a commander at the top of a tank ) they will instantly shot and get killed, there should be an option to hold fire <--- Seems i was wrong here 13) Feels like a console port Got a refund and never coming back To the people complaining about playing only less then a hour i played for an entire week the beta-access thanks to my prepurchase.

--UPDATED 8-18-17-- Let me start off by saying I've played every single Sudden Strike to date, I'm well versed with RTS games and this is a great modernization of a long lasting franchise. This is not your typical RTS like Starcraft 2, its a slower pased much more mundane try to be authentic to history concept type game. I will say that some of the reviews on here that are negative don't have a good understanding of what this game is trying to acheive, this is not trying to be a highly competitive professional ESPORT game here. This is a niche RTS for certain type of RTS player. This game is for people who love methodical slower paced stratigical combat games. They've made the graphics wonderful in this game along with all the little details from the terrain damage to tank tracks left behind and having to have a good supply line to support damaged vehicles along with refueling and resuppling needs, the attention to detail is fantastic and could not be better. Pros ---------- -Great graphics. -The sounds I feel are done nicely. -Super Strategical. -Not an RTS base building game. -Fun Campaigns so far. -Much more fluid than previous versions. -Fairly historically accurate campaign missions. -Using stars to build on a skill tree is a great concept. -Using your INFANTRY to scout for tanks is awesome! Cons -------- -Pathing not great. -Trying to utilize infantry is not easy. -The controls aren't as fine tuned as I would have hoped. -Want to zoom out further. -User interface seems a little too large currently. -The maps should be even larger. -Might be too slow paced for the masses. (Opinion) -Units should be able to survive and when they do go on to other battles to gain veteran stats. -Multiplayer is questionable in its current state. -Sometimes line of sight issues. Guys this is a great game for people who like history based RTS and methodical type strategy games. This is NOT a game for a player who wants to spam buttons and build bases. Don't give a game a negative review when you don't understand the concept of what it is out the gate. AWESOME GAME!! Keep the updating going and it will only get better.

As a long time fan of the Sudden Strike series, with hundreds of hours across the games, it's a neat graphical modernization of the series, yet even for a Sudden Strike game, it's overly simplified for an RTS. The graphics are nice, nothing groundbreaking, but stylistic to the original. However, It feels like it was made to be played for the iPad/iPhone instead of a PC. With games like Company of Heroes and Men of War to compete, any new WW2 RTS should offer a wealth of content to differentiate itself (when you don't have quality, go for quantity). Yet, the campaign is a rehash of the same old historical places, even for new players- it's delivered in a lackluster manner with severely limited campaign maps that feel incomplete and significantly small. The multiplayer is a joke; broken and practically nonexistent, and prior SS games did better in that regard. With a significant lack of content and performance, It's not worth $50, or even $30 in its current state, as it feels incomplete. The only salvation for this game's longetivity would be in its modding, yet that would require full modding support and a completely revamped Multiplayer experience. Larger maps, co-op modes, greater customization, continous campaigns. and so forth. It shouldn't be called SS4, but Sudden Strike Reduxed. I'll say the greatest thing about pre-ordering this was getting all of the previous releases as well, to remind me of how great a series it was.

I'm a big fan of the sudden strike serie. I precommanded the game as soon as I heard about it. At first I was pretty enthousiast cause it had the look and seemed to share the same units and gameplay. But it was an illusion. The guys who made this game never played the originals, or they didnt understand it. The multiplayer games in the first 2 sudden strikes were about setting up a front line, getting your units at the right position, trying to get the best of all your units, building a system. Then you tried to figure out how your opponent did organize his frontline and find the weak point to pierce it. In the new game, you have nothing of all this. You have very few units, going at some point, meeting the other player army, engaging it so fast that you cant organize anything and after a few seconds of fight (a little bit more when you have the big tanks), it's over. No front, no organisation, no strategy. Just arcade game. This sucks and i can't see how they could fix it. I played a few hours a cried cause i like sudden strike so much, i wanted it to succeed to play again this awesome game.

Gameplay and controls have been dumbed down. Map sizes are small and unit counts are pathetic. Missions are scripted and repetitive. It's lost any resemblance to the gameplay of SS1 and SS2 (which is a bad thing). You can tell the quality suffered because they developed it for consoles, not just PC. Developers keep mentioning improvements to multiplayer, but it's pointless because multiplayer is dead. There is no reward/rankings/customization to incentivize people to play multiplayer. It's just a boring afterthought. SS4 follows the trend of other dissapointing releases with pretty graphics crippled by poor gameplay. Also, artillery range is ridiculously short. There's no strategy left in this overpriced game. TLDR: Can't tell if this is a mobile game. I'm dissapointed and this game is not worth more than $10.

It will be a strange review... Game is not very good. A lot of flaws, big and small. In every mission tactic boils down to keeping infantry in front of tanks to provide them vision, and than simply move this blob of units from point to point. I've completed German campaign and wasn't compelled to try anything else. Unit controls are messy, especially with infantry. You can control each individual soldier, but you don't have any reason to. They are fairly useless alone and still greatly fragile in numbers. Game even pre-binds them in a control group at the start of the mission, which looks like developers understood how meaningless individual control is. Also you need to manually order your infantry to go prone and scatter otherwise they die extremely fast, which dooms your tanks. That's a lot of control for the least interesting and expandable units. Also game got very strange relationship with realism. Units have health-points, tank's are almost comically blind and the whole experience is mostly spectacle. But then you have to refuel and rearm every tank with extremely tedious supply vehicles, which are automated a little, but not enough. Most missions will force you to spend 5-10 minutes just watching this slow process. I was too stupid when first Sudden Strikes came along, so I've missed the whole experience. Maybe some things are just paying homage to the series, but I don't see anything special or unique in this game i nit's own way. If you want bombastic WWII RTS - go play Company of Heroes 2. If you want more tactical game on bigger scale without basebuilding - there is an astonishingly good Steel Division. Despite that I had fun. Some raw and basic fun, which I love RTSs for. You command your forces, order airstrikes, capture enemy vehicles. On very special occasions you flank enemy tanks with your faster units. Soldiers die, tanks blow up, buildings crumble, command sends you new soldiers and tanks to crumble more buildings. It's hard enough so you have to use some tactics here, check you ammo there, quicksave a lot, quickload a little less and generally enjoy yourself in the process. It's nice and pretty. It's not good nor smart, but can be a nice addition for your RTS experience.

A mostly fun WW2 tactical game (an RTS it is not). I played only the single player. Worth giving it a shot if you liked Company of Heroes or the previous Sudden Strike games. Pros: + Some tactical thinking required , due to limited unit availability + Good vision and damage mechanics (matters which side tank is facing) + Storyline is a great touch with mission before/after journal entries and also cinematics + Decent graphics Cons: - Pretty much only one optimal way to play every mission (to get 3 stars), tends to get grindy - Not being able to build new units can get annoying really quickly - Some inbalanced Commanders (e.g. Armored commander seems useless for single player, lacking tank HP replenish). - No coop See below for more details: There's 3 campaigns (German, Soviet, American) each with 7 missions. Each mission you can pick one of 3 commanders (Infantry, Armored, Support) each with different perk tree. Only Support can repair vehicle hitpoints (up to 50%), all other trees cannot. Infantry self-heals and medics can revive downed infantry, but the Infantry-commander also gives each infantry unit a medkit to self-revive. Every mission is ranked up to 3 stars, a 4th star can be gained by doing a Challenge mode. Each star is how many perk unlock points you have, the better perks cost more points within a campaign. You can get such awesome things as smoke grenades (for infantry or for tanks), tank camoflage in grass, etc. Points go up with more enemy units dead or medals, and they go down with your own units dying. It's a tactical game, there's a finite amount of reinforcement (either a few waves timed apart or a single wave when an objective is completed). You can't build anything or recruit more units in this game, but it's possible to take over abandoned vehicles by sending your infantry into them. The game has a compelling vision mechanic, infantry can hide in tall grass, bushes, etc making them invisible except when they're almost on top of other units. Or they can go prone and stay hidden anywhere (which is a bit odd, but oh well). Tanks have very little line of sight, so they need to be supported by infantry units. Units can generally shoot much further than they can see, so usual strategy ends up being to send some hidden infantry forward to act as scouts while the rest of your battalion slowly creeps up. Enemy units can't shoot back if they can't see you (and unlike other games ,shooting doesn't temporarily extend vision to those enemies). So ultimately if you are aiming to get 3 stars on every mission, it just ends up being rinse&repeat send scouts then either snipe or arty or tank everything. Enemy placement seems to be static so you never have to worry about being counterattacked in the flank/rear, sometimes AI uses flares and they attack you from the front but that's about it. I think this game could've been better if there was a way to recruit units, force enemies out of their tanks, a way to heal tank HP regardless of the tree, more thoughts given to the balances, etc. Hiding the "3 star" mission scoring mechanic until a campaign replay would make people feel less impulse to have to grind the mission.
