The game was awesome until we got to mission 21. The end was unfinished when the after objection was complete. Needs conclusion after this, their were no promotion, acknowledgements of any kind. Just nothing really.

Decent (but short) shooter with nice graphics for its time.

It's a very linear space fighter game wherein the general idea is "crush kill destroy you are the STRONGEST IN THE UNIVERSE". You get to upgrade your ship as time passes, but that's the only customization there is; minimal replay value due to exactly one campaign and no modding. Story's okay, voice acting's generally good but has a few terribad spots, mostly where the script obviously wanted characters to be interrupted but the devteam didn't bother making the pauses between different characters speaking have anything other than a fixed interval. Basically: It's good fun, and it's incredibly cheap at the moment (75 cents) so you don't really have that much to lose by buying it.

An alright game. Short, but worth more than the $3 you pay for it. Only critisisms being the movie audio doesn't play properly(theres only like 4 in the entire game), no high res/windowed mode, "W" and "S" are roll left and right.

How does one appropriately rate a game? With Project Freedom, it was a difficult choice. Let's talk about the good things about Project Freedom. It's pretty fast-paced, and the actual gameplay--space fighter combat--is quite enjoyable. You have several weapons available, useful for different things. Lasers are good for taking down enemy fighters. Missiles and the plasma weapon are good for targeting large buildings on planets, freighters, and capital ships. The gameplay itself is pretty good. But the plot is pretty simplistic (Human factions are fighting each other, a couple alien races show up and you ultimately have to destroy a huge station/space ship), there are no characters, and the bare bones upgrade system almost may as well not have been included--just decide whether you want to upgrade engines, defenses, or weapons, and the game seems to choose which particular sub-upgrade you get within the category of your choice. I can't remember any of the music, having now played PF twice. Contrast this with, for example, Darkstar One. Darkstar One really isn't a great game--but I can still remember the main theme music, and the quirkiness of the main and secondary characters. But, once again, the gameplay is pretty solid. PF didn't really have major flaws--there's just not much meat in this package. And in consequence, I only spent something like $3 or $4 on PF, and once I bought it, it only took ~5 hours to beat the ~20 missions. So even if there are a few annoyances, and a general lack of interesting content . . . it won't last for very long, and during that time you have nice, fast-paced space-blasting melee. And how much different is that from, say, Counter Strike? Except, CS is replayable because it's multiplayer and has tons of maps. So it was kind of hard for me to say No instead of Yes on this game. So I'll say this. Don't go into PF expecting a whole lot. If you're fan of space shoot 'em ups, go ahead and buy it, but make sure you don't pay much. Go in, blast some baddies, and get out. (That's what I did, yes, TWICE, since that part was pretty fun, and I kind of wondered if something might jump out at me the second time around.) If you want something that's a lot more amusing, colorful, and enjoyable and has a decent amount of meat, buy Darkstar One, for example. But I don't think your average player will find a lot of interest in Project Freedom. 5/10.

Surprisingly good for such a cheap game. The graphics can be awesome - if you're into Mars geography, you'll wet yourself. Gameplay is fine, it's a general arcade shooter - no targeting, just shoot in front of you. Friendly AI actually do their jobs, getting kills, getting killed, and engaging enemies you're not engaging. Plot, music and voiceovers should be taken less seriously. The finale isn't epic, but it's still a fun game for a couple of days. Space bits might reminder you of a stripped-down Freelancer (but it's a shooter, not sandbox), graphics might remind you of one of the X games, and the on-planet bits will definitely remind you of Rogue Squadron. P.S. Play on easy.

Fun, simple basic game. If you tried X Rebirth or Parkan 2 like me and immediately got lost, this is the game for you. The controls are mostly good but the ones for roll were a bit idiosyncratic so I re-mapped them. Be advised that in this game if you want to remap buttons, you have to make sure that you are using buttons that aren't already used for another function. This means that if you really want to change the controls, you have to first assign actions to buttons you don't use, then assign the actions to the newly empty buttons you want. For instance, I wanted to move the roll buttons to A and D rather than W and S so I had to first set strafe controls to buttons that I didn't use, then assign roll to A and S, then assign the strafe buttons to buttons I wanted to use. Remapping the controls felt a little bit like doing a sliding squares puzzle but after I did, I was able to get a control set up which I liked really well. It was a very enjoyable game... until I got to the ending. It just ends. No congrats, no cutscenes, no story it just ends when you destroy the last objective in mission 21. I couldn't believe it so I looked it up online and saw that it is actually supposed to be like that... wow! It just ends... Then I found out that there were apparently cutscenes which were never ported to the Steam version of the game... really sad to see a potentially awesome game let down by the developers like that.

IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE STARTING: Go into the game folder and cut/paste or move all the movie (Mpeg I think) files to a different directory. You can even watch them with a media player if you want. Just don't let the game use them. Also, the highest resolution seems buggy. BUT, if you get past that it's a very fun little space shooter.

Project Freedom being game from almost 10 years ago, looks pretty good but ultimately failed to deliver solid gameplay. The plot is derivative, the action is derivative, and even the missions are kinda meh. Graphics are above average, but being that old, lacks widescreen support, and ultimately the UI will be stretched if you hacked it. PF feels like a derivative of the Star Wars games; Rebel Assault and Starfighter. You fly by pointing the cursor in a certain direction, and the craft will fly that way as well as shoot that way. You have 3 secondary weapons aside from your cannons: "air" missiles, "ground" missiles, and "plasma" shot. Air missiles obviously are for against enemy fighters. Ground missiles are against ground structures and slowly moving ground targets, and finally, plasma is good against something directly ahead and/or stationery enemies (such as capital ships or ground structures). The missions comes in either space type or ground type, just like Rebel Assault / Starfighter. Fly and try to shoot down bajillion fighters (okay, up to 20+ at a time) and bombers, and ground targets includes AA guns, missile launchers, SAM tanks, SAM walkers, and whatever structures they say you need to destroy, including shield generators, power plants, radar sites, comm towers, and so on. Same idea, they just look a little different. There are no score kept, damage count, or even a kill board. You either advance, or not. Your craft have shields, but obviously it won't take too many hits to bring them down. Your ship has some additional reserve energy to handle collisions, but after that you're toast. Your ship can receive upgrades between the 21 singleplayer campaign missions, and you can choose among firepower, shields, and speed. If you upgrade the speed first, you will eventually get access to "boost", which is basically afterburner that regenerates its fuel. The missions are not particularly difficult except for Mission 15, where you suddenly had to escort a friendly ship while being overwhelmed by 20+ bandits. Why would they put the most difficult mission at 15 (out of 21 total) is anyone's guess. The enemies are tolerable, not particularly bright. There is no "radar" per se, but then your interaction with the environment consists primarily of blowing stuff up, much of which is actually optional, as most structures on the ground is destructible, yet only the defenses and designated "targets" need to be destroyed. To destroy the ship, you shoot all its componets, like multiple engine pods, bridge, and other hull modules. WIth the ground bases, often you need to take down the generators to drop then sheilds, then destroy the shield projectors around the structures they're protecting. Then finaly, use your plasma and ground missiles to achieve the destruction. The ground missions are barely tolerable. You often get fly in the canyons that you can't fly over (just like Rebel Assault!) so you're basically doing "trench runs". And you can't stop your fighter, but you can slow down a bit. Controls are not that good, and the mouse can roam off the screen if you're running multiple monitors, forcing the game to stop and lose focus. Fortunately, it's relatively stable that way, as switch back to the game will resume automatically. There is no automatic save game. You have to save manually after each mission, and it will even let you save in the middle of a mission (with quicksave). All in all, this is an "also-ran". Either play the Star Wars versions, or play some true classics like Wing Commander or Freespace. The modern equivalents look and play better. Even at the low-low price of $2.99 it's a bit hard to recommend.
