  This game is absolutely amazing. LDST is easily one of the most fun co-op games my wife and I have ever played! Talk about exciting! It kind of reminds me of Star Trek mixed with PixelJunk Shooter. The Star Trek part is how you have to move your character from station to station to control different systems (weapons, sheilds, helm, cannon) and the PixelJunk Shooter part is pretty much everything else! If you're looking for a good co-op game, you've found it. Pros: + Fantastically original aesthetic. + Unique gameplay. + Interesting enemies + Very challenging, but doesn't feel unfair. + Simple controls. Cons: -No online co-op. Doesn't really matter to me, but is sure to be a deal-breaker for some.

  [h1] You can, in fact, play Lovers online[/h1] I'm over posting reviews on Steam, but I figured I might as well for this one and maybe help someone out. So much love, and all that. In short: Game Good. [b]There is a way to play Lovers online[/b] if you're willing to take a minute to read and set things up. Look up "Parsec Gaming." They offer a (free) service in which a host streams the game to another player -- as long as your connection is decent, the input lag is not significant. Only the host needs to own the game. Just played with a friendo in PST with me in EST. The site will explain the particulars on how to set things up. Game is still best on a couch, but if distance separates you from your besties, check out some of the more interesting technologies around streaming.

  [h1]Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime.[/h1] [i]So much love![/i] Note: A gamepad of some sort comes heavily recommended for this game. [b][u]Introduction[/u][/b] Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is an exceedingly well-designed and polished game. It's a cute, local co-op 2D bullet hell, with such a clear focus on inventive gameplay that it's tough to not be entranced by its many charms. LiaDS is one of those "easy to learn, hard to master" experiences. The challenges it presents are often difficult, but entirely fair. I'll already say I'd recommend Lovers to anyone; but allow me to explain why. [b][u]Plot[/u][/b] Lovers' story is both simple and endearing. The galaxy has been in a perpetual state of happiness for as long as anyone could remember, due to the Ardor Reactor; a piece of technology that can spread the power of love to all the known worlds. However, an error in the XOXO matrix allowed anti-love to sneak into spacetime, ruining the loveliness that all creatures of the galaxy knew. You are one of the LOVERS (League Of Very Empathetic Rescue Spacenauts), who must find the pieces of the reactor to reestablish loves ascendancy, save lost friends, and defeat the forces of anti-love. [b][u]Art & Audio[/u][/b] For LiaDS's presentation, tonality is everything. While the gameplay is frequently demanding, Lovers always exudes this mind-meltingly cutesy aesthetic; whether that's in its confident use of bright colors, adorable sound effects, perky animations, friendly character design, or non-violent combat. I found myself smiling countless times at the game's many subtle cosmetic quirks. LiaDS's soundtrack is likewise hopeful and uplifting as well; and matches perfectly with its deep-space setting. Lovers is visually, and atmospherically striking. [b][u]Gameplay Design[/u][/b] At first glance, the gameplay of LiaDS appears as simplistic as the story, but this is deceptively so. In Lovers you command a small circular spaceship; with one engine, one quarter-circle shield, four turrets, one "special attack", and a GPS system. The catch is that all of these stations are operated manually, and your character can only control one at a time. Single player mode gives you an AI companion, but you have to micromanage them cleverly. Various frantic moments are generated by this design, as you run your character up, down, left, and right to man the station that is most beneficial at any given time. This fast-paced, brilliantly constructed action represents the game as a whole, and excites throughout the four, 90 minute campaigns. The gameplay loop is absolutely ingenious in my view. [b][u]Gameplay Variety[/u][/b] Compiling on with more variety, there's a complex upgrade system in Lovers as well. You gain levels by rescuing captured allies, which lets you unlock perks and new ships. There’s also "gems" on individual stages throughout the campaigns that can improve your turrets, engine, shield, and special attack. There are three types of gems, and each can be mixed and matched to produce a wide range of ships with differing abilities and battle strategies. Enemy types are just as manifold as the upgrades; and tax your skills accordingly. Best at this are the boss battles, all of which are uniquely formulated and extremely enjoyable to conquer. The only gameplay element that stumbles is the physical level design, as they're fairly recursive in structure. Overall though, LiaDS provides an incredible sum of gameplay progression. [b][u]Conclusion[/u][/b] If you're one who'd say "gameplay is king", then Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a must-have. The story is a little bare-bones for my tastes and the level configurations are not as innovative as I'd like, but the lovable aesthetic, devilishly hectic + diverse gameplay, and god-tier level of mechanical polish blow any criticisms I may have out of orbit. Lovers is a game I'll recall fondly as a novel, and just flat-out fun experience. I unquestionably [i]loved[/i] my time spent as LOVER Pi, with my furry sidekick, spacenaut Kepler.   Really Really good! Played through it with my girlfriend who doesn't really play video games and we had a blast, and it wasn't too difficult or easy for either of us. We both like trying out new weapons, changing our stations, and beating the bosses. This game is so good it got me laid
