ميزات Kult: Heretic Kingdoms

In the world of the Heretic Kingdoms, a world where God is dead and religion heresy, you are cast as a young female inquisitor, working to stamp out the last remnants of religion. On instructions to destroy a relic which the Inquisition considers to be a significant threat, you are drawn into a war between two warring secret societies – a conspiracy of mages whose goal is true power, and a shadowy cult who seeks to resurrect the Dead God.

As the story progresses, you will be placed in an amoral world and left to decide your own morality. Just like the real world, your actions have consequences, and it is up to you to decide if you can live with them or not. Play as an altruistic heroine, a vicious and selfish egotist, or just a woman trying to get her job done – your actions will lead you to one of six different endings depending on where you decide your loyalties lie. Will you crush religion underfoot, or become its savior? Only you can decide!
An engaging story line written by a script team lead by critically acclaimed game writer and designer Chris Bateman (Discworld Noir, Ghost Master)!
Features a simple but rewarding combat system that keeps the action flowing thick and fast.

A vast world to explore containing around fifty locations, scores of unique monsters, and tons of loot!

Kult: Heretic Kingdoms (aka Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition in the US) began with 3D People developing an isometric Action-RPG. To stand out among the many “Diablo-clones” of the early 2000’s, they partnered with International Hobo, a game writing & design consultancy company. This little back-story seems key to understanding why Kult feels like two different games inside one. Clearly influenced by the works of Michael Moorcock, the game tells of a world were an ancient hero killed God. His blade became infused with god-like powers, and later one of his descendants used it to conquer the land, imposing a brutal theocracy. He was eventually defeated, and to stop another theocrat from rising the sword was hidden and an inquisition was formed, seeking to destroy all forms of religions that might grow to oppress humanity. You play as Alita, an apprentice to the High Inquisitor – but also a descendant of the ancient hero’s bloodline. During your adventures you’ll learn more about these past events, of your own order and of those seeking to resurrect God, in an morally ambiguous tale with multiple endings (though based on a last-minute choice). Kult also has great world-building, with all quests and NPCs having their own reasonable motivations. You’ll hear about refugees from neighboring countries, tribal caste systems, sex workers fleeing slavery, etc. What dooms Kult is that all this is trapped inside a very poor Action-RPG. Combat is slow, tedious and extremely unbalanced (some skills are plain broken), map design is poor and monsters barely have any skills or abilities – even the bosses just run at you. The skill system is similar to some JRPGs, where each equipment piece can teach a new skill if you use it enough. Sadly, most skills are dull passive bonuses and the few magic spells are all automatically cast, so you’ll just right-click on enemies the whole game. Kult is a game in conflict with itself – at one point you’ll be playing a boring Diablo-clone; at another you’ll be exploring a large city full of NPCs, uncovering secrets of the past and taking sides in a faction war between thieves, with barely any killing involved. The good news is that Kult is short (6-8 hours), and doesn’t overstay it welcome. As such, it’s worth giving it a chance – you’ll likely enjoy most of its good parts before tiring of the bad ones.

Old game, but still as fun as I remember and now its on steam, so yeah its an instabuy for me. + Character customization, although simple customization + Good story with a kickass female main character + Battle system is alright, switching between melee, ranged and magic combat - Does not support resolutions over 1024x768

To be fair, the video above is the worst thing about the game. Sorry makers, but it's horrendous. Please just buy the game for the few bucks it costs and see for yourself how good it is. About ten years ago I picked up this game in a local dollar store, best find ever. It's one of the few games I've finished and at that multiple times. It's very enjoyable to play because of the unique attunement and class system and the spirit world addition which adds a whole other layer to the game. I shouldn't forget to mention the -even for this time (2018)- gorgeous art. I highly recommend it if you can still enjoy older games and like off-beat class systems.

Ah, good ol' Kult... I actually bought the physical copy of it back in 2005. Pretty sure I still have it on me somewhere. Anyway, my experience with this game back in the days was pretty simple. I've started it, I've got to the first village, I've got confused thanks to lack of the proper map, I've decided to return to it later a-a-a-and... that later came thirteen years later. Thirteen... freakin'... years. And it's kind of fun, since this game? It totally looks like something I would usually like. Because yes, I'm an old school guy. To me, the best period of role-playing games was back in nineties, with games like Fallout (the real one, not that “it just works” failure), Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment. And even though I can play those modern games now and then, there're nothing like nineties to me. It was the genre's evolution (which I've followed since the very first Ultima) at its best. And this game? It even comes with a pretty neat and unique concept. In Kult you can press a single button and switch between boring real world and something that's called “dreamworld”. Nowadays, young people would probably compare it with what you can see in Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams. The older ladies and gentlemen would probably remember Soul Reaver, even though in this exact matter Kult is way closer to Gianas. Anyhow, fighting enemies in real world would give you the regular experience, while dreamworld will reward you with some juicy passive buffs. Sounds pretty awesome, right? Well, it sure does. The problem is – the game itself... kind of sucks, really. The entire game has less than twenty tiny locations and it's not like there are many things to do there. Most of the time you'll be busy trying to understand where to find a certain NPC for another dull quest. Talking about quests, by the way. Don't expect the game to have a proper journal. Technically, it's there. But it won't give you any info you'll expect it to. There's also no proper map. I know, I've already said that, but it's one of those things that will constantly get on your nerves. And that's, ladies and gentlemen, is the worst thing about Kult – it just feels... unpleasant. Technically, it tries. It has a non-linear story, in which you'll actually have choices, it has multiple endings, it sure looks pretty nice (if you like 2D backgrounds as much as I do) and, let's just admit it, old school RPGs are always welcomed. But dealing with tons of shallow NPCs, trying to remember all those meaningless names without a proper journal, trying to find the exit to the world map without a proper map and hoping to get enough experience while exploring tiny little locations with not enough optional stuff on them? It just... isn't fun. At all. Even dreamworld can't help that much. Because after the initial “wow!” effect disappears, it becomes just another part of the boring routine. Did I play worse than Kult? Obviously. Even in comparison with modern games like Legends of Persia, this one is a freakin' masterpiece. Do I regret wasting my time on it? Not really. The entire thing is less than twenty hours long. Even less if you're a fast reader like yours truly. I sure can sacrifice that much to beat another RPG from my backlog. Feels nice just because it's nice to have another one of those beaten. Do I regret paying for it? Nope. It's only $4.99 / £3.99 in Steam, so, I bought it just because I was too lazy to look for my physical copy. But does it really worth it? Does it worth it to choose Kult over many others out there? Can't say that, no. The story is all about some boring names and prophecies, it's way too small, it's way too dull and it sure isn't as unique as it makes you believe at the beginning.

Wow , now this is some real shit. I played this game really really long time ago and I still remember almost everything about this masterpiece , one of my favourite games. ( Pretty good price too ) - Graphs aged pretty well. - Soundtracks are amazing. - Gameplay might look a little hard for today and can be awkward sometimes but still not bad. - Story 8/10 (Not perfect but pretty interesting) So overall if you are into some old classic RPG you should try it.

My first ever isometric game was Pillars of Eternity- it was painfully dull and boring. My next was Planescape: Torment, and while it has some wonderful positives, it was also ultimately boring. I stopped maybe an hour into Baldur's Gate, and it'll be some time before I try it again. I've never finished any of these games, so I was incredibly hesitant to buy this. I stuck it on my Wishlist, waited for a sale, and was able to purchase it for $0.49. While to this day I still regret buying Pillars of Eternity at nearly full price, I could have paid that price for this game and not regretted a single cent of it. Why? Because for me, this game never became boring. I went through it always wanting to see what happened next, though it did come with its own brand of minor annoyances. -The music can get very repetative. Very, very repetative. -The combat is simple- engage one enemy, get swarmed by a pack of his friends, and try desperately to kill them before they kill you. -The mages were a pain to kill for my melee focused Inquisitor. They only stop running when they cast spells, so fights with them devolved into constant chasing, very lucky hits, and a lot of anger inducing near misses. Despite these small issues, this is the only isometric game I've ever finished, and it's by far my favorite. The music eventually grew on me. Constantly having to take on mobs, and only outlasting them through teeth clenched swinging, made most fights extremely rewarding. Finally running down and killing those pesky mages always made me grin. The story was intriguing, and I wanted to see Atila succeed. In regards to the ending I picked, *!Begin Spoiler!* breaking the Godslayer and becoming the High Inquisitor *!End Spoiler!* it was one of the most fullfilling endings I've had in a game, right up there with killing the Archdemon and a Sovereign possessed Saren.

I didn't know the game Kult: Heretic Kingdoms at all until I bought its sequel Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms. After 12 hours' game play, I finished the main storyline. I recommend this game to old-school ARPG fans. Even for a game published in 2004, the visual and acoustic effects of Kult would not have been satisfactory at that time. The characters, backgrounds, and animations are very crude. Most pieces of BGM are short and are repated endless, and the sound effects feel cheap. The combat system of this game is diablo-like but has its own shining points, where you need to attune with your equipement (i.e. learning a skill from each piece of equipment by successfully hitting enemies for enough number of times while meeting some prerequisites) and you need to choose a limited number from them to enhance your combat abilities. The enemies are designed rather straightforward, lacking variation, and even bosses don't have anything special except that they possess higher HP and damage. There are also some minor problems about the UI. It is especially painful to manage your inventory, since you need to open the containers a lot of time for storing and retrieving items. However, these are acceptable for a game of over ten years old.

TL;DR a mousedriven action RPG with unique elements for its time and interesting story and world building. The UI and resolution doesn't quite hold up by modern standards nor is the game as unique as it was in 2004, but its still interesting enough to pick up if you are a fan of this style of game. Review The Steam time is not my actual playtime. I first discovered this game in mid 2005. It was a time when WoW was *huge* and bandwagon jumpers wanted to be the next WoW. In short, for a while it was hard to find a decent singleplayer PC RPG. Everything coming out was an MMORPG, which I have no interest in. I found Kult at Half Price Books and bought it, just happy to have a SP RPG. And although I bought it just because the pickings at the time were so slim, I have to say, I ended up liking it. Mechanics wise, what makes this game interesting is the unlockable skills you gain by equipping items and fighting with them. Fight enough, you gain a permanent skill in your skill list. You can then rest to plug in different skills to your currently equipped skill list out of your learned skills, allowing further customization of your character which you can shift as needed by resting. The stats are pretty simple "Melee, Ranged, Magic, and Speed". You gain points by levelling (100 points, enough for 1 stat upgrade) and also at certain one time areas in the "dreamworld" for 10 points. You also gain 5 skill points to all equipped item's skills from killing enemies in the dreamworld. Thats another cool thing, by clicking on a UI icon or hitting D, you go to the "dreamworld". Its an "alternate realm" kind of place. The map layout remains the same, but real-world enemies disappear, and there are new enemies and things to interact with there such as spirits, ghosts, chests unlocking and doorways appearing and ways through map puzzles. So, say youre getting your ass handed to you, its possible to shift between realms to run away or heal, then shift back (as long as you dont encounter anything on the other side). The story is really interesting too, and pulls no punches as far as messed up mature themes. My biggest complaint is that the resolution will not even go to 1080x1920, so if youre playing at anything greater than 1280x720, its going to stretch your screen. Its not bad at 1080x1920 native, but that may be a dealbreaker for some. Also, compared to modern UI, although there are plenty of hotkeys and the actual UI layout is intuitive for anyone whos played a mousedriven action RPG, its still not up to modern standards by any stretch. You have to right click and hold while hovering the cursor over an enemy to hit them, not just hold rightclick to hit anything in the direction youre facing. Also, there are tooltips on items, but I couldnt find any sort of full command layout or keybinder in game. Still, its worth it for genre fans.

This is an interesting game. It's an action RPG that doesn't have as much loot as Diablo or it's children and it neither has the initial customization that licensed Dungeons and Dragons or similar products have. It's located somewhere in the middle and carves out it's own unique niche. It's a tight experience that has little side paths but the choices the game allows players to make are usually bigger, more important ones that have greater consequences later on. It says something meaningful about those who wield power and what the transfer of power entails. It won't out right say it in the text of the game, but it's there if you look hard enough. Pleasantly enough, when the game is about to dump a bunch of exposition, the game loads in some nice drawings and narrated text. No need to click through pages of dialogue to get to the point. There are some interesting characters and some nice effects that the game employs even if the 3D polygons are a bit dated. And while the short ending can be a bit of a bummer, it's mitigated somewhat by the fact that most side quests have a short wrap up if you decide to check with some of the characters central to the quests. Right before the game boots you to the title screen, you'll get a short round up of the player's title (which is based on how many sidequests completed and how they where solved) as well as a class description based on which type of augments the player unlocked and used for the character. Now the attunements is where the game shines. Every piece of equipment in the game has an ability attached to it and with it, some requirement for it to gain experience. These requirements can range from elemental affinities to armor requirements. Thankfully, the game will tell you when your items are gaining experience when the requirements change from red to green on the equipment screen. Some items require more use than others to unlock their perks (which are called attunements in this game) and some are more useful than others for the player's current character build. To equip these perks, all the player has to do is rest at a bed or a campfire and screen will pop up allowing the player to add, swap and drop their current loadout. To make them more useful, attunements once unlocked can be used with any combination of items provided the requirements are still met elsewhere (i.e. that ranged attunements work with all bows but not with melee weapons). This means for the most part, the player will mostly be looking for that next interesting item that might sync up with the current build. There are lot of abilities to learn, but trying to get everything the game has to offer is a bit of a fool's errand. There isn't enough enemy spawns in the game to learn everything in one go and some of the experience requirements aren't worth the grind to obtain, especially if the items conflict with the current build the player is going for. Two elements (out of four total) are more than enough for the player to beat the game (at least on Normal) and armor perks are more than generous, with pieces of one armor set usually providing the same benefit as the other pieces. There are more than enough weapons for players to find a favorite type and have low experience thresholds (usually, some are a bit tricky to top off towards the end of the game) so swapping them comes quick and easy. The player can also swap the elements of the weapons around to get bonuses from augments to really turbo charge their arsenal. Leveling up in this game is not a strict case of straight numbers but improving the multipliers the game has from F- to S+. Alita's (the player character's name, though is customizable) attributes are Melee, Ranged, Magic, and Speed. Improving the Melee attribute improves the damage done with melee weapons, Ranged does the same with bows, Magic improves the damage done with magic (which gets really potent late game), and Speed improves the rate Alita attacks. In addition to improving these attributes on level up, Alita can find Hex Marks scattered throughout the game world to gather Advancement Points, which after 100 points are collected, to invest in one of her core attributes. This allows the player freely spread out, avoiding any attribute becoming a dump stat. I'm not sure how HP and Alita's dreamworld timer are improved but by mid-game, HP is bountiful outside of a lucky crit and the dreamworld timer becomes so long, it doesn't really have any significant impact outside of the very beginning of the game. How Hit Points work in this is similar to Monster Hunter or Dragon's Dogma. Each hit Alita takes causes the HP bar to turn red. If it's all red, back to the load screen the player goes. Using a healing item (of which there are unlimited of) restores a portion of the health bar and blanks out the rest. How much of the red bar is restored is determined by the healing power of the item. The more powerful the heal, the less is lost from the total pool. To recover the total bar, Alita must rest at a bed or a campfire without any enemies around. The beginning of the game is lousy with an exploration-campfire loop, but it eases up once the player gets a few levels behind them and the first upgraded healing item is found. So is this game for everyone? Short answer is no. This is a game that has to click with someone before they dive deep into. It isn't particularly hard after awhile, the map is functional but could have been much better, some areas could stand to be bigger and some could stand to be smaller, and loot isn't always guaranteed to drop nor will be useful to the player's build. But it was a lot of fun. Character progression and building becomes in-depth and interesting once Alita gains more attunement slots and there's more items to play with. The writing is pretty good in a few spots and while not laugh out loud funny, provides a few chuckles. It's a game to enjoy if you want your Diablo click fests to have a bit more role playing meat and/or if you want more dungeon crawling after Neverwinter Nights.
