  Fureraba is another one of those games that I can never seem to quite get off of my mind no matter how much time passes. It is by no means the most impactful or emotional VN I have read, but that is where a majority of it's strength lies. Fureraba is a Smee novel in the truest sense, focusing on the relationship of the characters above all else, to the point where there is little to no plot that ties the story together. While this may seem like a detriment to the reader's experience at first, especially those coming off of VNs such as the Fruit of Grisaia or Steins;Gate, this focus on the individuals rather than the story and world as a whole allows for Smee to do what they do best: writing a story so sweet it may give your soul diabetes. Fureraba is one of the most unbelievably sugary and romantic VNs I have ever read. It's sole purpose is to bring you, the reader, an adorable and lighthearted story of people experiencing their first loves as they move from acquaintances to friends and finally to lovers(as the name implies). There is almost no drama or serious tones throughout the entire story, save for light amounts of relationship drama which are resolved quickly and cleanly. This may be a turn off to some who are looking for something a little deeper, but if you are looking for a temporary escape from reality to a place where everything really is okay, then I can not recommend this VN enough. I won't waste your time discussing the girls or their routes as they are pretty simple in concept, but know that each heroine is fantastic in their own way and each one feels unique. As for the protaganist...give him a shot. At first I couldn't stand him, but that was just for part of the prologue. I quickly found myself laughing out loud at his jokes and eagerly waiting to see what he would do next. Just know that, like some other Smee protagonists, he is loud, opinionated, but extremely dedicated to his relationships to the point where you wonder how such a fowl mouthed guy could be such a cheesy sweetheart whenever the mood calls for it. All in all, if you are looking for a story that is like an injection of happiness straight into the soul, then this is the game for you. And remember that if the cold, harsh void that is your life ever gets to be too much, you can always seek comfort here.

  Warning : Game may induce Diabetes with how sweet it is. A great game from SMEE and Neko. Appreciate that the game actually has you get to know and talk to the girls and rewards choosing choices they support. Great stories for the four routes with amusing supporting characters. The art is nicely done and the translation for the most part is well done and does not distract from the enjoyable story. If you are looking for a great story grab this one.   Let's go back to 2013, go back to the peek of romance light novel and moege, just right before the boom of isekai. Fureraba on its own as a romance story is one of the best. There're only 4 heroines so the game goes into deep and detail slice of life stories for each of them rather than just glossing over developments. In contrary to other visual novels, this game has a unique common route. There's a prologue and a conversation part. The prologue is there to set up the story and the characters, then the conversation part is for the players to interact with the heroines. Basically you need to do your best picking the best respond to build up a hidden affection gauge to progress. There're more conversation topics available than you need to finish building a relationship so there's a bit a replayability there if you want to listen to all the conversation. The progression is pretty linear and predictable. Prologue -> heroine common events -> hanging out with heroines along with family and friends -> personal event 1 -> personal event 2 -> a date leading up to a confession I'd suggest a blind playthrough first, but there's also a guide available on the steam community. But be warned, there're some incorrect choices in there, especially during the personal event 2 none of the choices in the guide are correct. Although it doesn't matter toward the confession, you need to do it correctly to unlock the hand holding CG which you cannot find in extra. All 4 heroines are equally great, if you are on the fence of choosing your first target, I'd suggest Yuzuyu or Misaki. There's also an after story available on mangagamer, it works for steam version as well. All 4 after stories take place a year after the main story.

  You get to experience the sweetest romance I have ever played (which is a lot) in this VN. Girls are cute and stories are heart-warming. Choices are also fun. Something that I will never experince in my real life. Well at least I got my waifu in this game so who cares HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..HAAA..HAA.....ha......*sobbing*

  Currently hiding like a Ninja. Ever since I started using the 18+ patch, I've had numerous scenes where people would walk up to me as I close in on an Ecchi or straight up H-scene. While this does improve my already unhealthy as hell body, and while the story is Funny to the point of me getting yelled at to shut my weeb ass up, I’d like to note that as I’m currently disguising myself as a normal human being, this game makes that job 1000x times harder since there’s always be someone I’d be ashamed to show on the screen (Except for Justice or Rina). I like how you can change the font and so that you can either read it on a nice, clean looking font with white text, or mess up your whole god damn brain with a hard to read font and brown colour text that looks as if someone made the text into shit. I haven’t really gotten that far or anything, since the time I spend avoiding and hiding takes much longer than actually playing the game, though the walkthrough on Fuwanovel that some guy made as well as the 18+ patch from the NekoNyan is really appreciated. Verdict? I’m a hopeless low life cunt with zero love experience and to cover that deep whole in my life, I stuff it with VNs and cry myself to sleep every night. 69/10 best game Rina is waifu and Justice is my idol. WARNING, WALL OF TEXT BELLOW ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alright, that's enough joking around (Except for that Waifu part). In all honesty, after finishing the whole VN, I've got to say that I like it and that it's one of my top 3 played VNs on steam. TLDR if you don’t want to read the wall of text bellow: It’s a decent, long VN from what I can tell but whether or not it’s worth your money depends on the person itself. Though I’ll like to mention that there’s an 18+ patch for free if you’re one of those who like that stuff on NekoNyan’s website and a Walkthrough by someone at the Fuwanovel fourms is available. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For those genuinely interested, I’d say that the prologue of this would take about 3-4 Hours depending on your read speed. To go to a specific character’s route, you’ll have to talk to them and pick topics that seem relevant to the character you’re speaking with and that will add in a few more hours before you can actually reach a character’s route. It’s kind of an affection system sort of thing. You can pick which character you want to talk to when prompted, or not see anyone actually, but there will be sometimes when your character that you want to go after won’t be available. I would suggest to either don’t see anyone or pick a different character when that happens and chose the one you’re going for originally once she’s available. This might be a slight spoiler but basically, once you manage to enter a girl’s route, or the lovers stage if you want to call it that, it’ll take until chapter 10 or 11 to finish and a short epilogue is there once you finish the ending movie. The lovers stage is usually 4/5/6 hours long for each heroine if I’m not mistaken, though in the end, it’ll depend on your reading speed. (Including H-Scences of course) During certain points in the game, you’ll also be able to pick options that’ll change the hairstyle of certain girls in the game, like Rina or Yuzuyu. (But I’ll leave discovering the change to the person who actually buys the game and plays their routes.) I honestly like the game’s soundtrack, but in the end, that’s really my opinion and if I compared it to other VNs and their soundtracks, I’d say this one is average. For writing, I can’t really comment on that. For one, I’m not a super story reviewer or anything but at least I can rank the routes from my favourite, to my least. (With crap explanations to go along with it, of course.) (And side note here, I’m not saying that any particular girl’s route is bad or anything, just that it’s not my taste. I’ll leave the discussion to whether the writing was shit or not to the story review pros.) For start, my favourite route would be Rina. It’s mainly due to me liking her character from the get-go though and I am a bit biased towards her since I played her route first. The second would be Yuzuyu, simply due to how she can actually be slightly loveable once you enter the lovers stage compared to when you first met her. You actually realise that she’s a pretty cute girl beneath all of her insults, but I don’t mind the insults in the first place though. (But that’s me, I think I have slight masochism.) I want to say more about her changes, but that’d be spoiling so I’ll stop myself. Third would be Misaki-senpai, but I can really comment as to why she got third. I just felt like the other two had better routes compared to her. And finally, Himari. Though, I’m not sure why I don’t like her route. Maybe it’s just me and my dislike of childhood friends? (Actually no, I think I just don’t like her…) For who you should go for first, I think I’ll refer to a Fuwanovel walkthrough post by Mr Poltroon and recommend the same route order. (And big thanks to Mr Poltroon for the walkthrough, helped me a lot when playing. Go check his walkthrough if you need any help going on a route.) You should start with Yuzuyu, then Rina, Himari, and then finally, Misaki-senpai. I’m not sure if there’s a difference or not, but I feel like you reach the confession scenes for certain girls faster than others. I find that Yuzuyu’s confession scene was the fastest to get to, followed by Rina. The longest girl to get to the confession scene is Himari in my opinion, though, that’s from the calendar dates. Misaki-senpai’s confession scene takes a comfortable amount of time to reach. (And I’m referring to when the option to confess shows up, since all the confessions take place on 30th of June. Also a reminder to pick the option to confess before then.) As for the game’s UI and things, I like the minor features that come with this one, such as being able to change the font and colour, being able to quick jump to previous scenes (WHICH SOME VNS DON’T EVEN HAVE, MIND YOU, and I’m definitely not pointing fingers at that falling cherry blossom across the room or anything) even after saving and closing a game (at least from what I’ve tried). These little things do make a difference sometimes so good job Smee! (Though maybe favourite character system voice would have been good as well?) Finally, the experience reading this VN. I kinda liked it. I felt satisfied with most of the routes and I’d honestly get the Fan Disk when it comes out. (But… Let’s not have it delayed on steam next time if possible, yeah? xD) Anyways, verdict? An 8.5/10. And that’s because I feel like I can only replay one or two routes a lot. I guess this also means that I don’t really feel that much for other characters in the game asides from Rina and Yuzuyu. Misaki-senpai’s route is good and all but I don’t feel like I’ll replay her route anytime soon. Himari’s route out of the question. I just don’t like her route, though that’s personal preference. In the end, is this worth it for the money? Depends on your tastes. IMO, for me it’s worth it but for others? Maybe not. It all depends on your own tastes and whether you like it or not all depends on you. To anyone who actually took their time to read this crap review, thanks I guess? Though I'll wish that you won't flame me in the comments for my crappy review. P.S, Is this review length closer to a bible yet, -crmz^?

  Only done 1 play through and I really like it the girls are all cute in their own way. The dialogue has made me laugh out loud three interactions with the main characters classmates got me everytime. The music is fantastic and I thought many of the romance scenes were very nice. Plus as a huge perv myself I give the erotic scenes a thumbs up too. Not very choice intensive and the story is pretty generic but I think this game is well worth the purchase if you enjoy dating Sims.

  Probably one of the funniest Visual Novels I'd played. Couldn't stop laughing in the first few hours and the dialogue is amazing. Its also way better with the uncensord patch. 10/10

  Let me start off by saying that Fureraba is the single best moege I've ever played. I've ready my share of VN's by now, from cute and light hearted ones like this to dark and serious ones like Muv Luv or G Senjou no Maou. The majority, though, fall under the banner of "moege." This literally translates to "cute game" and generally refers to a "feel-good" game with sweet romance in it. As a VN wholistically, I would give Fureraba a 9/10, which is basically the highest a "pure" moege like this could conceivably get given that it doesn't really come with "the feels" or any serious plot or thematic elements. For the record, I gave Clannad a 9/10, the Muv Luv trilogy (it's a trilogy, not three novels... bite me), a 9.5/10 and G-Senjou a 10/10. So yes, I put this silly, light hearted moege on par with Clannad. Despite the utter lack of any real plot, or themes. What the actual shit? It really is that good though. Every bit of writing is solid fucking gold. This game is utterly hilarious, like fall-out of your chair with tears in your eyes hilarious. The romance is a shot of diabetes to the heart, and the characters are all likable and well written... (Well, Rina could be a bit whiny for my taste but to each his own). The common route in Fureraba is perhaps the perfect common route. It was good enough that I took the time to get the bad end, just so I could read every word of it. And it was totally worth it (Okay, I just reloaded to before the last day and confessed but whatever). This is basically a straight up dating sim in practice, in between classes you can talk to a girl, and if you keep talking to one you'll eventually trigger their events and be able to confess. That's the short version, in actuality these conversations are quite entertaining, because rather than pre-set skits or rotating lines, you actually get something of a mini-game where you attempt to pick topics of conversation that will interest the girl and then a response or continuation that they'll like. The tastes of each girl are different and it's fun trying to figure out what they like. Sometimes you'll run out of good topics and have to pick bad ones, but they're a very entertaining way to get to know the characters better. All this takes place in the common route which continually delivers fantastic comedy and character interaction as you attempt to woo the girl of your choice. Did I mention that the character interactions are amazing? Yes? Well again, the entire cast is amazing. The MC even, has a well above average level of personality that shows through and in fact he is probably the funniest character in the game. On to the girls and their routes. Like most VN's you end up with some of them falling into archetypes, you have the tsundere Yuzuyu, (who unlike many tsundere's doesn't ever get on my nerves and goes full fucking dere once you start dating. She has generally speaking the sweetest route in the game). Her route was 8.5/10 You have Rina, the titular friend-to-lover who, honestly I like the least of the four but I still gave her route a 7.5 out of 10 Misaki is kind of a wildcard, given that you learn next to nothing about her through the regular course of the game and have to actively pursue her to get to know her at all unlike the other girls. Her route was also a 7.5/10, mostly because she was overly taciturn for my tastes. Still, she has plenty of personality when she shows it and has a cute route overall. Then you have the most cliche of all archetypes, the childhood friend Himari. Despite the rather unfortunate choice of her CG on the store page, she (The blonde with green eyes) is not a loli... like at all. This game thankfully avoided that archetype and Himari has the smallest breasts with something like a C cup. Anyway enough about her boobs. On my first playthrough, I gave her route an 8/10, on my second I gave her route a 9/10, and a strong 9 at that. Perhaps what I wanted out of the novel changed in the time in between... though I think one of the more likely factors was that I installed the 18+ patch on the second play through. I'll talk more about that in a minute but Himari's route in particular benefits from the patch as there were several sizeable scenes that had to be cut from the steam release due to their unfortunate proximity to sex scenes (I'm not being sarcastic it would be jarring as heck to try and include them without the surrounding context). Himari is somewhat different from the most cliche childhood friend characters in that they fell out of touch through middle school, as a result they start off kind of awkward around each other and while they still know the other, there are a lot of things they don't know. As to why I think her route is the best overall, it all comes down to the dynamic she has with the MC. It's positively glorious. Easily one of, if not the single best dynamic I've seen between characters in a VN. It was very much a give and take, where they both were sort of good-naturedly struggling to hold the initiative. This even makes its way, rather fantastically into their H scenes. On to the issue of censorship (which let's be honest isn't as big a deal now that steam finally came around). The game takes around 30 hours to finish (for a fast reader), I've read it twice now. I have never read a novel twice in 9 months before, but it was just that good, and due to the relative lack of plot or anything it was still a wonderful time less than a year later. I played first with the steam version, second with the 18+ patch. As to what you miss without the patch... well the memory required for the game goes up by around 50% with the patch installed (over 1 Gig of memory for it). The sex scenes are, frankly the best I've ever seen in a VN. My general experience has been that the H scenes are kinda just thrown in to increase sales, whereas here they are written with the same love and care as everything else. So that solid gold writing and character interaction extends to the adult content, which is welcome if unusual. The CG's are quite good as you can tell from the store page. I think it was honestly better with the patch. Having said that if you're not into that stuff you can still have a great experience with the censored version. Frankly it's one of the best censorship jobs I've seen, they left all the context in they could, cut out only what they needed to in order to keep it from being outright pornographic (i.e. you know that sexy time happened in no uncertain terms but don't get the 20 minute erotic scene and hentai slideshow). TLDR; This is an amazing novel that I would recommend to anyone looking for 30 hours of brightness in their life. It will make you laugh like mad and give you a shot of diabetes to the heart. Do not expect plot, thematic elements or major feels. It is a happy experience all around. As a VN I give this a 9/10. It's not a masterpiece like Muv Luv or G-senjou, yet as a moege, I give it a 10/10. It is in my opinion essentially the pinnacle of what a "pure" moege should strive to be, a spot of sweet romance and comedy in a dark world.
