  Only played an hour but i did manage to escape the fold on my 6th try with a dark knight. Stealth was fun to play with and stack items. Really glad i follow SplatterCatGaming on youtube, it's because of him i saw this game and i knew i would instantly buy and enjoy some casual runs.

  I like the concept, but I feel like there's too much RNG involved. Most of your decisions are underscored by RNG deciding that you're going to hit 3 enemy encounters in a row with no healing/armor in between. I had 1 win with the second character, but I've done 20+ runs with the starting character and a few with the 3rd and most of them were losses that felt cheap rather than losses that I misplayed on. I saw another review that said often times you'll see the end boss and know immediately that you're going to lose. It comes up frequently and it's not a good feeling. It feels cheap. The game will sometimes spawn the toughest enemy on the floor 2 steps from the boss with a low health or armor card in between and expect you to survive both on the first floor.

  Yeah, there are aspects of this game that feel shallow or even heavily RNG oriented, but it's probably one of the more solid executions of the "card adventure" game that's been iterated in recent years. You don't have a whole lot of mechanical options available to you, but there are just enough interesting game dynamics, upgrades, and character powers to make it feel fun and challenging at a casual level. I like to play very difficult games, so having a few engaging games that are relatively simpler like this is nice.

  YES! Get this damn game! It can be basic but its SO engrossing just hopping in and diving into run after run! This is great for casual and hardcore gamers especially for speedrunning. PROS: -The price is amazing for the content. -The artwork is original. -The music is beautiful. -Its a Phenomenal "just 1 more run" type of game. -Unlocking stuff is fun to see what comes next. -Its basic but in a good way. There is not clutter all over the sceen. -The dev response time a great, is a good guy!! -Multiple updates have already been added week one to enhance mouse-free gameplay...which is AWESOME! CONS: NOTHING. No BS this is a well made/thought out game the deserves all the praise. Conclusion: Even without anymore updates/content this is a full price purchase. Kudos to the dev on a job well done!! Plain and simple this will most likely be my GOTY. 13/10

  I came into the game expecting to be unimpressed; I've played enough card-based roguelikes that they were getting a bit tiring. But almost immediately, I realized how refreshing it was to play this. It doesn't demand the long time investment or stress that others do, and the simple mechanics create a constant stream of risk-reward dilemmas, which could be the difference between life and death. Combat is fairly one-dimensional, and yet it involves a surprising degree of strategy, and provides a perfect balance of challenge and power trips. The lightning-fast pace never feels rushed, and leaves you questioning if you should grab an extra potion over that chest, as each battle has the potential to leave you on the brink of death if you aren't careful. Item synergies and character attributes are creative and feel open-ended enough to have fun experimenting, but intentional enough to fit in to a variety of different play styles. Though the visuals are fairly mediocre, the art is charming, and emphasizes the simplicity of the gameplay, which is one of the game's biggest strengths. Easy to pick up, and hard to put down. Even if similar games aren't your cup of tea, I strongly recommend that you give this game a try.

  There might be some potential here, but very little challenge and variation in the game play loop as it stands means the fun dies quickly, I don't imagine many people coming back to it after a couple of hours of play. It definitely feels like something more suited to a mobile game.

  I played the Game Jam version from back in 2019 and always thought "Why didn't this guy make a full game?" Forward is one of the most unique implementations of the concept of roguelikes out there. It's worth eight bucks if you're willing to put up with frustratingly unfair RNG. Somehow I played this game for 12 hours instead of working today. Go figure.

  Played the demo before purchasing the game and was certainly not disappointed, Nice change up from the established formula and great for quick runs. Highly recommend!

  It's fun, has a lot of potential, but there's no challenge and the game ends quickly. It's good for a couple hours then there's really no reason to keep playing. Feels like a mobile game.

  Fun little 10 minute adventure game. Nothing more, nothing less. Would work great for phones on bus rides.
