About the Game

Your journey will start on an abandoned island with a small crew of loyal workers. In order to survive, you will need to mine raw materials from the earth, grow food, build factories, manufacture products, construct vehicles, research new technologies, explore your surroundings, and trade with other islands. If you do things right, you'll work your way up towards an industrial superpower and you can even start a space program! But this is no easy task and you will be put to the test to keep your settlement alive.

Manufacture products

Start simple - smelt iron, mix concrete, create construction parts, and grow food. Soon you will be able to expand into crude oil processing, electronics, solar panels, data centers, and even rockets. There are over 150 unique products to explore and work with!

Build vehicles and transport products

Logistics systems ensure that trucks will automatically deliver products where they are most needed. You can configure the logistics to make it more efficient. Don’t forget to build enough trucks or upgrade existing ones to keep things moving!

Build conveyor belts and pipes

Use conveyor belts and pipes to route products efficiently and relieve stress on truck-based logistics. The transport system supports vertical stacking and auto-pathing for easy placement. Balancers and sorters also help organize your assembly lines by providing priority and sorting functionalities.

Mine raw resources on fully dynamic terrain

Find the natural riches of your land and use them to expand your empire. Mine coal, iron, copper, gold, or pump underground oil and water! Make open-pit mines to extract valuable ores from underground, or just dump excess rocks into the ocean to create a new land to build on! Remember that no mountain is tall enough for your fleet of excavators!

Additionally, the dynamic terrain system allows you to create access to various levels of elevation throughout your island. Dig or dump terrain to create slopes between hard to reach places so that you can have the most efficient path for your vehicles.

Farm your land

You need to feed your people by growing simple crops such as potatoes. Later, you will be able to grow more advanced crops such as wheat or soybeans and process them to make more kinds of food and products. You can also produce fertilizers and use greenhouses to keep up with the food demands.

Grow your settlement and provide for your people

To staff your factories, farms, and vehicles, you need people, and lots of them. Build housing and provide essentials to your citizens such as food, water, electricity, healthcare, and household goods. Population will grow on its own depending on their health and happiness, but you can also recruit and rescue populations on the world map to help aid your island.

Build complex oil and chemical refineries

Break crude oil down into different usable fractions using multiple refining stages. With the ability to stack pipes you can create compact and scalable plants that can make all the oil-based products you will need for your growing empire.

Research new technologies

Research is a must have! Unlock new buildings and materials and make your factory more efficient. New technologies will change the course of your future. Your factory will grow more efficient and advanced with over 140 technologies to unlock.

Import and export resources to and from your island

Establish shipping lanes with cargo ships to fill the gaps in your production by bringing in various products such as crude oil, wood, or quartz. While the resources on your island may be limited, the world is not! Later you will be also able to establish shipping contracts with other islands for periodic exchange of goods.

Explore the world, trade with allies, fight pirates

Repair and upgrade your ship with better engines, armor, and weapons. Explore your surroundings, find refugees, allied settlements to trade with, discover more resources, and be ready for naval battles with pesky pirates!

Get to space!

Research and develop your way to space flight. Launch a rocket as a true test of your settlement’s accomplishments.

I almost didn't buy this based on the very early influx of reviews stating that it lacked a tutorial and that it was a very steep learning curve, shame on me for being even slightly swayed by the impatient modern day gamer! I can as many others have already stated confirm that it does indeed have a tutorial the giveaway being the word TUTORIAL when you open up the message centre and at each new discovery. There is an element of self discovery but in my case I find that far more rewarding than the generic 'place that here put that there' hand held experience. I am only a couple of hours in but can quite confidently state that this game in its current form is a gem and with the enthusiastic Dev team taking on board community suggestions surely it can only get better. Having played DSP and Soviet workers and resources I would say this is at the very least as good as both those titles and probably better the further I get into this, thankfully I have 5 days off of work now to get stuck into it. I'd say that if you're at all interested in this genre then at 23.99 its a steal.

Addicting. Prepare for Death Spirals. I've spent 5 games and 16 hours dying to a different supply chain bottleneck. And I still am not even a quarter of the way through the map or the tech tree. Reccomended if you suffer from autism and/or Factorio enjoyment.

If you like logistic game like Factorio, Satisfactory, or DSP, buy this game. This game provides tons of fun of logical thinking. If you're hesitate to buy this game only because it's early access, buy this game. There're tons of contents in current state. Around 100h contents included that devs mentioned is not a lie. If you like challenging resource management game, buy this game. There're 3 difficulties and hardest one is quite challenging. If you worry about game ui or complexity, buy this game. Tutorial document is very detailed and easy to understand. UI is easy to use and some QoL mechanics are already implemented.

    TL;DR

Buy this game if you're interested. You won't regret.

English: There are Factorio, Satisfactory, Dysonsphere Program, Sim City and games such as the ANNO series and there is Captain of Industries. Captain of Industires is a great mix of all thoose mentioned games which compines them to a single perfect game. I have never been so surprised by an indy game which totally outshines all the mentioned games by the way. One of my favourite feature is the possibilty of terra forming with bulk material. For example, if you want to build a high mountain out of your garbage or hide it in deeper underground... this is totally up to you. Even the fact that you can do it makes it more awesome... The game is so well thought out that again I have to praise it... Even the turbines in this game have a high and low pressure side. A dream for every engineer <3 The ones who are into bulding games and also have an affinity to mechanical engineering will complety fall in love with this game. Please keep it up, MaFi Games! You have created my new favourite game and therefore I have to thank you at this point :D German: Es gibt Factorio, Satisfactory, Dysonsphere Program, Sim City sowie die ANNO Reihe und dann gibt es Captain of Industries. Weiter so, MaFi Games ! Ihr habt mein neues Lieblingsspiel geschaffen und dafür nochmal mein Dank an euch an dieser Stelle :D

It's complicated. Your first playthrough is doomed. Unless you study some guide first you will die very soon once you run out of starter oil (on normal difficulty). You can't fail Satisfactory. You can hardly fail your first Factorio or DSP playthrough. You will easily spiral to death here as long as you didn't figure it out fast enough. Even if you come prepared theoretically (knows what to prioritize), your first build is very likely to be a huge spaghetti that would make you want to restart. So... just play casually and restart. Or find some guide. THIS IS NOT FACTORIO. Main bus won't work. Buildings are like Satisfactory and belts are like DSP (but with very low support limit , bad throughput and power cost, so you can't run them wherever you like). You could design your factories as separate city blocks with trucks running between them. Use tons of chests. Get T2 vehicles from village fast. Dump into ocean from the very beginning. Then things...might...work. Still I did not enjoy all this. It's wayyyy too much complicated with tons of recipes all over the tech tree. You literally cannot know the way until you find out the hard way (probably in your last save). It provides too many problems with little tools to solve them in an entertaining way. You will have a hard time balancing all your oil intermediate goods with tedious double chest setup. Chests are also very small, which leaves little to no room for error and countless opportunities toward another death spiral. Also, hardly anything you build will last. New tech will unlock better stuff but there's no way to upgrade to them in your messy belt lasagna. You could stare at the tech tree for ten minutes and plan ahead before you build every new factory, but again, not very entertaining. Overall it's more like playing Anno 1800 but with limited resources, belts and robot cars. I would say that they limit the resources for a more "designed" progression, yet fail to provide the necessary hints and tools to make that "designed way" accessible. I have more than a thousand hours in Factorio, Satisfactory, DSP and Anno combined, and It's still very confusing and not much fun. It feels like you progress only to delay getting defeated by your limited resources. And the mess just keeps inflating. Satisfactory can be tedious but you won't fail a 20 hour playthrough for not doing it fast enough. DSP is easy but has a much more reasonable tech tree. One could argue that Factorio is still too simple, but adding all the city management and survival puzzle does not bring more fun. Also I played through Space Exploration and enjoyed it a lot. Things can be complicated and engaging at the same time; This game being Surviving Anno with belts and bots... maybe this combination doesn't really work that well together. Yet I still recommend this to someone looking for a different take on this mixed genre. It has its depth, I don't enjoy its way but it's still solid stuff. Maybe you will like it.

Stop reading reviews and just buy it. You saw the pictures, you're interested, you know what genre of game it is, just do it. The game is great! Come back and thank me after! You're welcome.

I made the mistake of downloading this at 9PM. 8 hours have passed, the birds are chirping. I need to sleep. But the factory must grow.

For anyone who likes factory games in the likes of Factorio, Satisfactory, or Dyson Sphere Program, you'll almost definitely enjoy this, and I highly recommend. If you're not a veteran of these types of games, though, I don't recommend this *yet* as an entry point to the genre, but I'll get more into that later. Note, I'm currently in the mid-game, so my review might be updated later as I progress. This adds in some new elements that improve upon the genre. While still somewhat underdeveloped, I love the addition of a population and workers. I also love that this game leans hard into the survival aspect. If you don't manage things right, your factory can really run into a death spiral that's hard, and sometimes impossible, to get out of. I personally enjoy this element. For instance, your initial electrical power setup requires oil, which you also need to power your vehicles (which are essential to the base running.) However, your initial access to oil on your island is limited. There are ways to get oil from the world map, and it eventually becomes possible to provide electrical power with the far more plentiful coal, but if you don't plan ahead to have both those things running before you run out of your initial oil, you're kinda screwed. If you completely run out of fuel, your trucks will no longer be able to run, which means basically your base is dead. There are countless other examples like this, where the threshold of total base failure is actually pretty low and you have to keep your eye on multiple processes and make sure they don't break down. Factorio always had a bit of an element of this with the threat of biters if your defenses break down, but recover is nearly always possible. This isn't true with COI. I also love the ability to terraform and manage terrain. This is a great new addition to the genre that has been lacking elsewhere (I'm looking at you Satisfactory.) Now why don't I recommend this for people who are new to the genre? Well, it's still pretty rough around the edges in a lot of ways, and there are some pretty frustrating mechanics, especially because of the aforementioned fact that you're always on a knife's edge. 1. The tuitorial is... not great. Veterans of the genre will figure things out, but new players may give up rather quickly. For instance, the game tells you that you should break down the abandoned communications tower to start and set up a dumping area. This is good advice. What it doesn't tell you is that there needs to be demand for the materials in the communication tower in order for it to start getting broken down. I sat there staring at the tower for a bit, trying to figure out why my tricks were doing nothing, even though I marked the tower for destruction. There's no real hint given at how these processes work. The tutorial doesn't need to hold your hand, but there's very little that's told to the player about the game's basic mechanics. 2. Vehicle pathing is way too unforgiving, which makes what should be one of the most fun and new parts of the game, terraforming and mining, a frustrating chore that you have to spend too much time micromanaging. Trucks constantly get stuck when you don't expect them to. In such an unforgiving game, there needs to be a smoother and better explained mechanic around vehicle pathing. I feel like trucks should always at least be able to move up and down a single level without ramping. Sometimes they can. sometimes they can't. Sometimes trucks go up somewhere, and they can't figure out how to get down. Sometimes one truck drives over the area that another of the same type of truck says it can't go. This forces the player to micromanage mining, which gets tedious. I find myself having to carefully remove a layer of a mining operation section by section, rather than just designating the entire layer for mining, because otherwise trucks keep getting themselves stuck. 3. Some of the research seems buried way too far in the tech tree. For instance, level 2 vehicle parts require glass, but glass production tech is significantly after level 2 vehicle tech, and after the jump to level 3 research. Yeah, you can buy glass from other settlements, but it's expensive. I don't feel like there's a great reason to give the player a tech that's difficult to actually use for a significant amount of time until you later unlock one of its base components. 4. Speaking of upgrading vehicles, it's so very tedious. Unlike buildings, there is no way to tell tricks to upgrade themselves to the next tier. You have to manually unassign each vehicle from where you have it working, tell it to scrao itself, build an upgraded vehicle, and reassign it where you want it to go. There must be a better way. 5. Ship docking clearance is probably much larger than it needs to be, to the point where it gets a little too frustrating to find places to put your docks. I understand the mechanic and it makes sense. I just don't think it needs to be as extreme as it is currently. 6. When your ship finds refugees, please make picking them up optional. I don't always want more people in my base. The beacon and natural births do a great job on their own attracting new population, and in early/mid game, you never really struggle to have enough workers. The ship picking up new ones that you can't refuse just adds more people to your population that you're now forced to house and feed or else you'll lose unity. 7. Ship exploration is interesting, but I'm hoping is just underdeveloped. Some really simple mechanics might help, such as at least having an option for the ship to automatically return from a destination. It's annoying to constantly have to go back to the world map to beckon the ship home. Overall, I think think is a very solid start and a lot of fun, with tons of content for an early access game. There are definitely some other balance and progression things that need work in addition to what I mentioned above, and I plea with the devs to focus on vehicle pathing before anything else. It's by far the most frustrating part of the game, but otherwise, I'm really excited to see how this game continues to progress and I'm having a lot of fun!

The devs have resurrected 1970s "Catastrophe Theory" in the form of a game. Slowly and carefully build a colony, avoiding over-expansion and all of the mistakes that you made last time. Watch with hawkish eyes on "all the things" to avoid the doom spiral but miss the single insignificant problem that will cause your inevitable death. Watch helplessly as the lack of coal delivery causes diesel production to stall, leaving the coal diggers without fuel. Laugh as the inevitable chaos overwelms the colony again, sigh and then restart. It's really good.

The game itself is great, there are enough reviews out there that comment on the high quality and rich content. It has its own takes on the genre and implements them in a unique way which is refreshing and works amazingly well. I've found myself feel addicted to this game and think about it during work all day. What convinced me even more was how much the devs care about and listen to the community's feedback. I've been looking at the forums (bugs, ideas, feedback) and nearly every post I've looked at has been implemented as a fix or rather update in the latest patch (v0.4.8). That's also the reason I am writing this review, which is something I rarely do, if ever. I've never seen a company be this efficient when it comes to community's feedback. It excites me to think about what they can do in the game's future.
