Ah I feel bad, I wanted to like this game but it really just feels like a point and click, not much interaction and just go to one location to the other, it feels like a game I would recommend for ages 8+. It has a lot of potential and not to say I do think a good number of people could still like this game but I would recommend Stardew Valley, My Time at Portia, any of the Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon games over this one. I do hope the Developers take the feedback they have received for this game and try to make another one though!

big farm story is a really enjoyable farming game if you're not looking for anything too complex. I'm sure many wouldn't find it much fun because every day is the same, no seasons or timed events, nor combat, but that was exactly the draw for me. can't miss out on a spring event or planting a specific thing until next spring, or an npc's birthday or other nonsense, just do your thing at your own pace. the only time-sensitive quests are optional and random daily(ish) npc requests that expire after 3 days. the main story is supposed to be around 30 hours according to the devs, but even with some side-content I finished in 20 hours. would've liked another chapter at least, dealing with the giant tree location, but it was still fine. besides tedious daily gifting to unlock personal npc quests, all I had left were a bunch of plot and barn upgrades, but with 32 farm plots (plus 8 in the mountains) and enough room for all 6 animal types I wasn't that keen on those anyway. every npc was lvl2 at least, I grabbed all the recipes and plants and trees and stuff, good enough. movement and general animation speed is decent, I really liked that you can repeat the planting process instead of selecting the same seed from your bag over and over, and of course golden tools make short work of the daily grind eventually. there are a few vendor-specific tokens for recipes and special ingredients, but most of them are optional and/or decorational and you can exchange money, items and tokens between each other to some extent. fishing is also easy, just click the mouse button at the right time twice and worms are only used for fish traps. while I understand the need to limit the preservation shelf to 5 at a time, otherwise you might be less inclined to unlock all of them (I still didn't), limiting basic crafting/cooking and windmill stuff to 5x is ridiculous. so is the fact that the kitchen doesn't have a working sink, but making 30 soups or 15 iron thingamajigs 5 at a time is bad. at least crafting, cooking and animal feed are instant, unlike preserves and the fertilizer in the windmill, but god forbid you could make 10 or *gasp* 20 bags at a time. good thing trees only need a bigger amount to unlock them, then only a few every few harvests. plenty of settings, pretty much everything you need, can even turn off annoying conversation noises, but I would've liked a toggle for the text display beep (one per sentence, not per character, thankfully), instant text display, plus a setting for ui size to get rid of a bunch of scroll bars and have more info on the screen. tracking items even if they're not part of an active quest would be useful too. paid dlc is only for cosmetics and pets, not relevant for me, but it's not great that the game doesn't work offline, lots of server-side calculations and only a single save. I only had a brief connection issue one evening, was actually surprised how smoothly it worked, but it still shouldn't be like this, and at the very least they should provide multiple save/character slots without having to wipe your current one. I don't replay games, so again, no biggie for me, but it should be a given. another issue I had was quest tracking not counting items already in the inventory. e.g. I had 10 clovers, somebody told me to give them 5, so I had to get 5 more even though I already had enough. in one instance it was explained that fresh flowers are better, fair enough, and in half the quests it worked fine (talk to npc again, dialog shows you have enough, done), but the other half was tedious. still, the game scratches that specific farming/planning/organizing itch without being overly complex and not at all frustrating (except for the annoyances mentioned above), so it obviously gets a thumbs up.

Honestly, I really wanted to say yes I recommend this game. There are a lot of good things about it. It's got a nice aesthetic, graphics are good, and it plays smoothly. The characters are cute too. But four hours in, I found myself getting frustrated at how many fetch quests were being thrown my way. How much I had to go back and forth to the same places again and again. Often within these fetch quests, there are more fetch quests. For example, running around to get the weather boxes for Nathan. It's annoying enough as it is. But when you get to the beach to find one of them, there's a crab in it, and you then have to talk to the fishermen and find a shell that the crab will live in instead of the box. But you know it can't be the first shell you find that works for the crab. Oh no no, it's not the second one either. It's the third. So you're running around fetching things so you can fetch the things you were originally asked to fetch. All of this is in an effort for the main character to find his missing grandfather. The other characters in the game are oddly chill about this. The fishermen send you on a series of fetch quests rather than just give you the information you need about your missing and possibly injured grandfather. And Matilde keeping the info about the hot air balloon to herself, thus rendering the THREE quests you have to do for Rita absolutely a useless waste of time was the final straw for me. I use a controller for gameplay, but it's not implemented well either. Half the time, I'm using the controller to move the cursor. I might as well just use a mouse. It makes choosing how many of an item to purchase difficult. And forget about putting decoration on the wall. You'll need your mouse for that. Not game breaking, but a little annoying. On menu screens where I'd expect to use the L/R buttons to switch screens, I instead have to drag the cursor over with my controller to click an arrow. Again, not game breaking. Just little details that could be refined. There are things I like about this game, but it gets lost in the fetch quests. I'll say it's worth it for the price point I bought it at (10 USD). I'd love it if this game gave you time to concentrate on the farming.

The protagonist's grandfather is missing after a storm. Together with the townspeople, they reveal various clues and unravel a mystery. Information • Gameplay consists of growing crops, taking care of animals, gathering, crafting, cooking, fishing, log chopping, stone/iron “mining” (but not in a mine), befriending characters, and fulfilling tasks. • Fishing, chopping, and “mining” involve precision hits, but I found it pretty easy. I don’t think casual players would have any trouble. • There are no seasons. All crops can be grown at any time. Some crops can only be grown in certain locations though: the farm or the mountain. • No combat whatsoever. • Time constantly moves. Pauses when in the menu, while fishing/chopping/mining, and while reading dialogue. • The game autosaves regularly. There is no manual save. • Online mode involves very minimal interaction with other players. They can improve your crops if they visit your farm. There is a chat to communicate, but if someone is verbally abusive, it’s easy to remove them. When visiting the townlet, you can see other players moving about. • There is no actual romance. Just awkward, subtle flirtation. Also, no marriage or children. Praises • Simple, but wholesome story. Bittersweet ending. • The reason the protagonist inherits the farm is actually different than the average go-to story about grandpa retiring or dying or whatever. (Though, grandpa is still involved.) • A pet corgi or pig follows the protagonist around and helps with gathering. (Other types of pets are available in DLC.) • Speaking of animals, they’re all super adorable. I love the art and animations for them. Cows (for milk), sheep (for sheep wool), and chickens (for eggs) are the typical farm animals. But there are also ducks (for feathers), angora bunnies (for fur), and alpaca (for alpaca fleece). • There is a cat. A grumpy black cat. Sadly, you cannot pet it, but you can give it many gifts. • I actually like that the game doesn’t keep track of a calendar or seasons, because it allows you to be more relaxed about getting tasks done. • There’s a decent amount of stuff to decorate your house and farm with. Complaints • Controller functionality could improve a bit. Overall, it works well enough, but for certain tasks in the game, it can be frustrating. • The characters could use a lot more character development. Increasing friendship levels after a certain point only gives the player rewards, with no new dialogue. • It’s nice to see a black francophone character and a black doctor character, but it’s still tokenism. Everyone else is white. White people have the most involvement in the main story. • The pet companion gets stuck on stuff sometimes, but luckily, there is a way to “call them” to you if that happens. (It “teleports” to you.) • There’s a quest to restore the Chestnut Meadows area, but nothing is ever done with it. • The pig pet companion is leveled up with friendship tokens, which I find really unreasonable. It takes a lot of (in-game) currency to buy friendship tokens. I got the pig as soon as I could afford to, but by the end of my game, I was still several levels away from maxing out its level. Whereas, the corgi companion had been maxed out for a long time, because it needs treats to level up. I think the idea is to encourage players to use online features (which reward friendship tokens), but I find that to be unfair, as no one is obligated to befriend anyone, so people could potentially never get to use their pig at max level. I’d recommend making the amount of friendship tokens needed to level up the pig significantly less. As far as farming sims go, it’s mediocre. However, the gameplay was still fun, so that’s why I’m not giving a negative review. If the devs improved upon the story and character development, it’d be a lot more appealing. At $20, it seems like a bit much for about 40 hours of gameplay; I’ve spent hundreds of hours on games of the same genre for about that much. That all being said, there is fun to be had with this game, but I’d get it on sale.

I don't want to see monetization in PC farming games. A couple of DLC is okay but if most of the cosmetics can't be earned in-game instead, the game quickly devalues itself. Another issue is the limited singleplayer offline support. Stop trying to bring the mobile gaming model to PC.

the game itself is nice, but there is not enough content for such amoumt of money. the main quest can be done in +-20 hours and after that there is nothing to do. the possibility of construction is also excessively limited, unless you pay an even larger amount of money for dls

If you're buying this for Offline Mode you should be aware that at present the repeating seasonal events are unplayable unless you run your farm in the default online mode. Soft pass. BFS is an extremely pretty game but it's very light on substance. 15 hours will see you through much of the content including the majority of the main quest. While there are side quests they're quite short and rather boring as most distil down to basic fetch quests requiring a day or two of growing or gathering to complete. The main quest itself is alright story-wise but the ending is somewhat bland and not satisfying. A note here I usually don't make: Lots of the recent negative reviews complain about how much DLC there is and that it impacts gameplay if you don't own it. In actuality it does not. You'll be missing a few cosmetic options for buildings and a pet or two. That's it. There are multiple pets and building skins in the base game already. If you're after a casual farming game and not a completionist this is an alright buy on sale, but if you're looking to complete BFS the wheels truly come off and you're looking at some serious grind to unlock the last handful of achievements. Whatever it is that keeps me hooked to similar games such as Farm Together is just not present in this one.

TL;DR: It's a mobile/browser game built on a PC engine. The devs expressed their will to make it a Free-to-Play MMO after Early Access, which will probably be a Pay-to-Win from what I can tell based on other games by the same studio (GoodGame Big Farm, Big Farm: New Harvest and Big Farm: Mobile Harvest). For the price they're asking, I would wait until the game receives big updates, goes Free-to-Play or, if you're curious, at least a 50% off. Full review: A promising blend of Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, My Time at Portia and others of the same genre, but with a poor browser-based game mentality. There's a lot of content to be developed and only a few areas, crops, livestock and other resources are available. Considering the current quests and the necessary grinding to complete them, you can finish everything in 2 hours or so. I played longer because they're giving a huge amount of gold on Big Farm: Mobile Harvest if you reach level 15 in this game. The game has a day/night cycle that lasts 30 mins in real time, but you can't rest or skip it in any other way. There's no difference between the cycles other than the fishing spots available. No significant days, no calendar, no seasons. You need to click to do everything. There are a few keyboard shortcuts, but only for panels like inventories, index of resources, quest log, amount of gold, market and so on. Want to walk/run? Click. Gathering resources on the ground? Click. Grow a crop? One click to tile the ground, another to pick a seed (two if you need to pick a different seed other than the last used) and another to water the crop. Fishing? Chopping wood? Breaking rocks? Click on the spot and more clicks to win the minigame. Everything runs in real-time (synced with their server) and you can't play it in offline mode. There's no way to skip anything to make the game more dynamic (but will probably be once they implement some pay-to-win feature like special tokens or gold for real money). Water takes time to spawn at the well, crops takes between 2 mins and 7 hours to grow, 1 hour to grind some livestock feed, and 30 mins to get 2 eggs from a chicken. The market has a limited number of available orders (which can be increased upgrading the market) and skipping an order to get a new one takes time (increasing from 1 min to 5 mins each by my experience), so you'll have to wait. The character/building/skills progression is level based and you have to get "stickers" to make them available. After each new level, the game offers 3 different choices and you can pick only one of them. Your daily routine will be: gather resources scattered in 4 of the 5 available areas (the resources respawn after each new morning or randomly after 30 mins), fish after you get the 3 necessary skills to do so (one for river fishing, one for lake fishing and one for night fishing), click click click click to grow crops, wait until the well refills, sell your goods directly for coins or sell them at the market for coins and special resources to upgrade your buildings (you have to go there or use the alpaca to deliver it for you, that also runs on a timer for each order), grind until you have enough resources for a new upgrade, wait until the end of the day (or just put your game on the background), rinse and repeat. There's a ranking board in which you can compare your progress (XP) with other players. Based on other games by the same company, they'll probably implement other competing mechanics, like cooperatives, personal, fishing and farming contests. As a long time player of Big Farm: Mobile Harvest, I must say that GoodGame's business model is one of the most predatory I have ever seen. If this game follows the same path, it'll undoubtedly become a Pay-to-Win game. Keep in mind that their DLC already costs 75% of the full game price, and, while it's not a mandatory purchase to play the game for now, it offers some insight of their practices. Their other games receives new Pay-to-Win features on every update and, if this game really becomes Free-to-Play as they said, I have no doubt that it'll introduce similar mechanics where you aren't really forced to buy something to play, but you won't be able to compete with other players if you don't spend special tokens, gold or some other premium purchasable feature to keep your progress in the game. For the price they're asking, I would wait until the game receives big updates, goes Free-to-Play or, if you're curious, at least a 50% off.

I was aware of this game because of the mobile game. I was hoping this was going to be a good Harvest Moon like game made by a different developer. Let me tell you, it is not. The game asks you to pay $20 USD for a threadbare early access game that look like it belongs on the Gamecube in the early 2000s. It uses a timer system for growing crops just like the mobile game. I don't know why I am surprised by this but I thought the developers would have the sense to alter this system for a PC release. It quickly devolves into a grindfest where you aimlessly walk around waiting for your crops to finish so you can progress further. There is a day/night cycle but it does nothing as NPCs stand around in the same place regardless of the time of day and it doesn't seem to effect anything in the game. Thwere is no calandar or days of the week or seasons. They say these will be added in later on. Goodgame Studios this is not an optional feature or an addition to a game like this. It is a core concept, that when absent, makes the game have no sense of flow or purpose. Your character also seems to be a robot with no need for sleep or eating at any time. The "gameplay" is plant crops and wait for them to grow while you pick up random junk on the ground. The game even puts timers on things like getting water from the well so you can't power through growing crops anyway. Ever level you get a choice between 3 "stickers" that allow you to either do a new thing like chop wood or unlock new plot or level of a building you already have. This game is clearly made with a mobile game mindset and the utter barren state of the game is shameful. This is not an early access it is a shameless cash grab from a game that looks like it was a a child's fan project. Stardew Valley was made by one person and is 100 times the game this is. GoodGame should be ashamed for putting this game out in the state it is and having the gall to charge $20 for it. If you get it so you can get the voucher code at level 15 for the mobile game then maybe you can look at it as a microtransaction with a laughably bad game wrapped around it but otherwise steer clear of this game. Refunded.

Unfortunately it looks like this game was developed by people used to making "pay to level up" kind of games. This game is extremely slow, growing vegetables is extremely low in profit (you plant one potato and get one potato, for example... plant one strawberry plant and you get one single strawberry... why? :D ) and the most frustrating thing is that you need to level up. Once you level up, you get to choose a "sticker" that will allow you to do ONE SINGLE THING until the next level up. This is a real bugger because leveling up is very slow, collecting resources or getting enough money to do anything is extremely slow as well... but to make things worse, you are NOT ALLOWED to do almost anything unless you have THE BLOODY STICKER! For example, now I have enough resources and coins to increase the space in the barn, so I could add one more chicken... but I have no sticker to do so! The same goes for upgrading anything else... I cannot upgrade the mill, nor the well... I cannot do anything at all until I receive the silly sticker and it is just ONE STICKER PER LEVEL which makes it even worse >< I really think it would be much better to delete the stickers, let people develop buildings as they see fit and give resources or coins at each level up (or delete the silly leveling up system all together). To be able to do the most silly thing you need to level up... it makes no sense. I do think it would be much better if one was free to build the farm more freely... the story is alright but why should it cost thousands of coins to clear a piece of field of some pieces of wood? It is really really frustrating and this disappointed me a lot. It is a real pity.
