  Nostalgia galore When people ask me the first game I ever played, this is always my answer. I remember my dad having me help him take on the Scion in LAN parties when I was a kid. He would always be the main "base commander," meaning he would manage most of the units at the home base, and I would always be the "field commander," meaning I would manage the biometal pools and turrets. Thanks to this great remaster, my old man and I can still play, except now the tables are turned; I'm the base commander and he's my field commander. Love you, dad <3

  Ah Battlezone 2, one of my all time favourites next to Deus ex. At the time of release I thought this game was the future of Gaming and stepping stone to greater things, Unfortunately nothing greater has surpassed what BZ2 or BZ1 have done, and though some new games in the FPS/RTS Genre are been made, so far nothing as great as this and until either a new Battlezone title gets made or a better spiritual successor is made, BZ2 will remain as the greatest in this genre and amongst other genre's too. Highly recommend this, go buy it now!

  It's the game I remember from all those years ago....just much better graphics. It's too bad this Genre never really caught on (FPS:Strategy Hybrid) but if you haven't played one of these types of games before do yourself and favor and try this one out. This is how a re-release should be made, keep the content just up the graphics and make it compatible with modern systems. Thank you Rebellion for doing this! (Full disclosure I've just played the first few missions and haven't completed the game yet so there might be some game breaking things later on that I might have to change this review for....otherwise if it's the same Battlezone II of yesteryear this game gets a full 5/5 stars from me)

  A remake of possibly my favourite game of all time. AKA: The reason i'm such a nerd. The original Battlezone Combat Comander (2) came out in 1999 and was miles ahead of its time. It features intuitive RTS mechanics intergrated with a fun space tank FPS. Featuring a great story in which you fight a terrifying alien threat on distant and bizarre planets. If you're a sci-fi fan and love video games then i can whole heartedly recommend this to pretty much any type of gamer. The Good!: Graphics! This remaster brings the old 1999 classic to more modern standards, and concidering the age of this game and its engine it manages to pull of some impressive visual fidelity with a beautiful atmosphere in each planet/terrain and amazing detail on every model its breathtaking to see such a classic game look this good. Mod Support! Although i personally haven't attempted to mod this game since 2002 when I was a wee lad. There are still some amazing obvious and (long) requested improvements with the steam workshop intergration and way mods are written into the game. Multi-player! I actually reinstalled BZ2 1999 in anticipation for the remake and i was pleasantly suprised at the fact there are people still playing this ancient game! but now with a full remaster its great to see all the community come back and all the newcomers find their place in a thriving community! SpaceTanks! Hovertanks in space! not much has changed in terms of gameplay but its still fun as balls to zoom across the map in a hovertank blowing up aliens! with weapons ranging from a basic minigun to a giant ball of lightning that fry's everything its all fun to use and fight against (maybe with the exception of the archer units but thats another story) The Meh!: Audio! Whilst the audio does sound crisper with the sound effects, music and atmosphere all great, unfortunately the voice acting quality is all over the place whilst sometimes immersive and sounding great can randomly cut to sounding like it was voiced by someone in their basement with a $2 mic. Whilst i understand audio quality has improved vastly since the time it was made and the fact it would be impossible to re-voice everything it can still be quite jarring The Bad!: Cutscenes/loading screens! the original artwork for loading screens and cutscenes remain the same tiny resolution with some minor background thrown in to mask it. AI! The AI pathing although better then in 1999 is still awfull and its common to see AI get stuck eachother, the terrain and well pretty much everything. RTS Mechanics! the RTS side of things in the battlezone series has always felt lacking, and here is no different. missing some basic commands such as "attack and move" or a way for units to "patrol" an area it adds alot more micro managment to your units then should be nescecary, especially concidering most of the time you just want to roll in with your army and attack personally. TLDR: The game has been given a huge facelift and still manages to prove that it is quite possibly my favourite game of all time, that said i'm not completely blinded by nostolgia and i can see alot of issues that would annoy most people. I still have to give this game a huge thumbs up and a huge thank you to rebellion and bigboat for bringing this classic game back. <3

  My opinion in short is that this is a shining example of how to bring back older games: only improvements, no unnecessary changes. After the disappointment of Battlefront, I had my reservations about Battlezone being rebooted. However, after 5 hours of straight gameplay I can safely say that Rebellion have done exactly what I was hoping for. Even though the nostalgia bias is running high in my blood, I truely believe this remake will have unfamiliar players hooked. Firstly, the areas that I have noticed change: -Obviously the graphics, I'm guessing we've all watched the trailer -The AI does seem smarter than the 1999 version. No more single unit attacks making for easy pickings; the AI opponent has grasped the concept of strength in numbers at long last. -Vertern units behaving more expertly (not a stats boost), a particularly neat adition in my opinion. Not many modern games offer actual unit behavioral improvement. Though actually what is most important for me and a lot of the fans of this game are the parts that have remained the same: -The simple and user friendly 1999 interface. -The entire gameplay mechanics and the units. -The awesome intro! -The campaign (or at least as far as I've got) -The balancing feels very similar with no unit vastly overpowered. I really hope that this game catches on and draws the public as it should. Thank you to all the developers for bringing back a game I loved and genuinely making it better.

  Just like I remember! I played the crap out of this game 10 or so years ago, on a Windows XP machine. So many good memories. It's great how it's the same game just made more compatible and with much better visuals. I still greatly prefer Battlezone 98 Redux (Battlezone 1) over BZ Combat Commander, but they're both amazing games. One thing I will say is BZ: CC (this game) is more accessible to average players, and there isn't a huge story you have to have from the first game for this one to make sense. I still highly recommend the first Battlezone but if you're looking for a good space romp in your tank while strategizing and managing multitudes of combat, production, and resource units, this is your game. It has an excellent gradual introduction to the gameplay style and UI layout, so you don't get confused. Later on you will be waging epic battles of huge proportions. Definitely recommended.

  Well the graphics are good, which is what the point of this redux was. The planets have actually had a lot of work on them, this is just high resolution textures and new models. There are new craters and cravasses on Pluto. Though it is weird on Pluto to see a visibly moving star field behind a stationary moon, comet and nebula. Unfortunately the old explosion effects are still there as well as the low resoltuion cuscenes - now shown in little windows to compensate. Seriously, I feel a bit short-changed that those things have not been updated at all. Yes I know it would take work to do them, but we are paying for that work. There are also several issues with Battlezone 2 that have not been adressed and that is very poor for a paid update to a game that already exists. The AI scripts and cues in the campaign are stuffed, this was a problem that started appearing in later versions of Battlezone 2. Not only does the redux not fix these bugs but they are now worse and there appears to be more. Enemy tanks wait for me at their spawn points for me to show and destroy them. I get stuck waiting behind an "escaping" enemy builder when I am supposed to pursue it because it doesn't run away as soon or directly enough and it keeps slowing down. The commander just died on mission 5 because she just sat on the edge of the base when she was critically damaged; she didn't go back for repairs or to build the base as the dialogue said she would. The controls are also very awkward, the mouse sensitivity is very difficult to set right. If I recall correctly this is another issue that popped up eventually in Battlezone 2. It feels like there is a lot of work that just wasn't done, resulting in flaws that stand out in what is still a pretty good game. This redux should have fixed the problems in the original game given that the developer is taking money for this work.
