  The original Audiosurf is the reason I downloaded Steam. 185 games later Audiosurf 2 is still my favorite game which I play every day. Now that the official release is out it is better in every way than the original. There is no other game out there that reacts as dynamically to music. If you like attacking scores on puzzle games like Tetris Attack, then puzzle league is for you. Play Vegas as an introduction and study how the scoring system works and you'll be hooked. If at first you can't compete then pick some obscure song that only you and a handfull of people own and capture that high score. Down the road you will get an email that someone dethroned you and you will laugh and re-attack their score. Thanks Dylan for listening to the fans and making the perfect game!

  If you enjoyed the original audiosurf, get this, it's basically audiosurf, but opened up to the max, with fantastic modding support and every mode you could wish for. If a mode you want isn't there, chances are you can find it on the workshop already, and the game has only just left early access. If you haven't played the original, also get this. It's a brilliant rhythm game where you can play with any song you like on a multitude of game modes.

  Audiosurf 2 is a game that has gone through significant changes over the years. When I first played it back in my middle school days, the game had Soundcloud integration. Then, it was updated to integrate YouTube support, which lasted for a couple of years. In June of 2018, YouTube support was officially discontinued, and the game was left to die. Sometimes, however, a community refuses to let a game die. More on that at the end of this review. AS2 is a rhythm-puzzle game that takes your music and automatically generates a track for you to ride. You can play with a mouse, with a controller, or you can choose the obviously superior option of playing with the arrow keys or A and D. There are multiple modes to choose from in the base game: Mono: The traditional mode of play. Fill up a 3-by-7 grid with blocks while avoiding spikes to gain points. Collect power blocks in loops while having a full or close-to-full grid for big points. Mono Classic: The version of Mono that was in the beta version. No power blocks, just you filling your grid while avoiding spikes. Audiosprint: Use the up and down arrow keys to avoid obstacles as you run across the track. Puzzle League: A group of four modes where you have 4 colors of blocks and have to manage each color in your grid to earn more points. Wakeboard: Jump at big hills with a full grid to gain massive points. Ninja: Similar to Mono, but faster and with more spikes. Dodge all spikes for a big bonus to your score. I could go over more modes, but those modes are the most competitive ones from what I can gather. In addition to the base modes, the game is compatible with the Steam Workshop, allowing you to build skins and game modes. I would recommend the following custom game modes: True Ninja: Ninja on steroids. Very fast ride. Ultimate True Ninja: Oh, so True Ninja isn't fast enough. You're insane, so let's use even more powerful steroids. Ultra fast ride. Mono Forever: Faster version of Mono for those who aren't ready for the absurdly fast modes. 1,000,000: Collect every block and avoid every spike to achieve the perfect score of 1,000,000. AS2 is compatible with all mp3 files and most music stores, so all of your songs should be compatible. You can keep playing your songs to get better scores as you improve, and the track generation is really good. But, what might turn you off is that this game used to have YouTube integration. Officially, YouTube support ended in mid-2018, but fear not. Two of the best Audiosurf players in the world, AiAe and Paradoona, have created a community server and a custom patch that restores the YouTube integration. The site is https://audiosurf2.info/, and it also has a link to a Discord server for AS2. The site itself is easy to register to, and it has a tutorial for installing the patch (does not work for Mac users, as Mac never had YouTube integration). Thus, the biggest problem with the current version of the game is completely fixed. I absolutely love this game. The ability to play my favorite songs in a game with so many ways to play said songs is something that wins me over immediately, and it's executed very well. The modes included in the game are a lot of fun, and there are custom modes in the Workshop if you want something different. Absolutely recommended. Seventeen dollars is more than worth it for this game. If you haven't already, download this game.   Many years ago, Dylan Fitterer asked a simple question: "Wanna see me make the greatest music game you've ever played?" And so, he went on to create Audiosurf, and at the time, it was. The way it analyzed and understood music files was unparalleled, and many other games tried to match it. Some did reasonably well, some failed. Dylan began an ascension as he improved upon Audiosurf further - introducing things like (difficult to find) separate scoreboards for mono players, [as-tags], and a buff to all the characters that weren't Pointman. Soon, Dylan's ascension took him from us and into the next plane over. And as time wore on, we began to notice flaws in the original product, many of which stem from Quest3D, its engine, being garbage, but also some discrepancies in the music matching algorithm. Then, recently, a great glowing ball of pure astral energy descended from the clouds, and in an echoy, yet very much familiar voice, it asked a simple question: "Wanna see me do it again?"
